    I'm learning SO MUCH when watching your vids, buddy! I think you're basically experiencing the system doing everything it can to extend your range, and that means keeping BOTH systems operating in tandem for as long as it can. So it switches to electric before it runs out of fuel so it can fire up the engine when it needs lots of power at once. At other times, even in E-save mode, it's using just a bit of battery instead of using more gas, with the idea that it's more efficient with the electric giving the extra push, and that it can regen that power on the next brake or downhill coast. I could never have known that without your vids! Love your curiosity, man!

    • @largol33t1
      @largol33t1 Год назад +1

      I don't think a 2-door would be wise. Look at how much space your Jeep needs for the batteries. It eats up a significant amount and severely reduces the cargo weight capability, which (according to Chrysler) is 1,280 lbs. That's not a lot. If you have three passengers and add yourself as the driver, that reduces it to about 780-680 lbs so you have to be careful what you put in the trunk. I don't think a 2 door will be anywhere as useful with so much space taken out.

    Nice idea.
    That would be an ultimate long excursion overland jeep.
    If you can use system as a redundant back up system. Ie when engine fails you will not be stranded in the outback of Australia because the electric motors will get u home or visa versa when electrical components fail, the engine will bring you home. A redundant system like this would be the ultimate overland and off road vehicle.
    To be able to rely on two different systems while offroading, would make it the most worthy and reliable vehicle in back roads do to its safety in redundancy and bypass nature of features that would get u home safe.
    The safety and reliability of being able to bypass and or rely on the redundancy of two motor systems, would make it hands down the goto off road vehicle.

    My guess is that you have a 2 gallon emergency reserve and as soon as you lose all electric battery reserves the engine will turn back on with the reserve going 20 more miles. Your gas guage said 21 miles to empty before it wouldn't go to esave mode. I have a 22 gallon tank on my Gladiator and when the low gas warning light comes on, even when I drain the red area down and fill it up on empty I can't put in more than 18 gallons because of the 3 gallons in reserve. At about 18 mpg that would give me approximately 54 miles to empty. With your extra gas can you should try running it out of electricity to see if the engine will turn on and give you the 2 gallon reserve or fill it up and see how many gallons you put in.

      Most fuel tanks have a reduced “usable” fuel capacity due to the system not being able to pick up everything from the tank. Also it helps prevent sucking up any water or debris that may be in the bottom of the tank. For example you could have a tank that has a total capacity of 30 gallons but only have a usable capacity of 27. You are correct though, if you didn’t actually run the motor until it died from lack of fuel there was at least some usable fuel in the tank.

    • @TnTTyler
      @TnTTyler 3 года назад

      @@carlvonfuckwits2934 You really aren't understanding what i'm breaking down for you. The 4xE has a 17kw battery(17000w). You won't ever fit 600w of solar panels on top of a jeep.....ever. Lets say you did though, 600w of solar panels doesn't ever produce 600w as they aren't 100% efficient so lets say they produce 400w for 8 hours in a day which is being very generous. So 400x8 = 3200w or 3.2KW So basically with a completely unrealistic solar setup that would never work you would charge the 4xe battery 20%, but again you'd never even get close to that

    Hi Brandon! Need some advice:
    On my way to work today, I took an exit off the interstate and was pulling up to the stoplight. As I’m driving up the exit ramp to the light, my 4xe brakes on it’s own and halts completely. The red plug in light was illuminated and the dash said “Electric Mode Temporarily Unavailable”. I was in hybrid mode (I usually always keep the jeep in hybrid mode). It made me put the vehicle into park and then I had to restart the jeep. I still had 70% battery life so I’m not sure why electric mode wasn’t an option.
    It was quite scary for me as the jeep stopped abruptly as I was driving. I feel lucky that no one was behind me.
    I was able to stay in hybrid mode but changed it to e-save for the rest of the drive to work, luckily I was only a minute away.
    I am on my lunch break and went to the jeep and started it like normal, and was able to turn on electric mode. I read a forum online and another person has had the same issue. Is this something I need to go to the dealership about? Have you heard of this issue?

    My PHEV is not the 4xE but I I suspect your vehicle is like mine.
    The "charged from the wall" portion of the battery is considered separate from the rest of the battery pack.
    My "e-save" mode will hold the "from the wall" portion to a large extent when running around normally but will call upon it and once that "from the wall" portion is depleted, electric only and e-save are no longer usable. Only regular hybrid mode.
    Now, if I am in "e-save" mode AND also using the navigation system, then it will hold the "from the wall" potion of the battery until about a mile or two from the destination. Then that portion of the battery is tapped to help economy-wise for the final stage of the journey.
    So, perhaps you should check to see if Edison works the same way. I would be interested in what you find out as I am considering getting the 4xE.

      From what I've gathered from either a Motortrend or Car & Driver article, the electric-only range is around 20-25 miles, so if you are charging at home and drive less than that each day, it could be a useful vehicle. If you take long trips, it supposedly gets worse total gas mileage than the normal gasoline v6 engine. Even if you were just using it for city driving, it would take a few years before you could break even on the additional cost of the 4xe vs the traditional engine. And if that is not bad enough, you're stuck having to drive an *automatic*... :( Oh well, they had to make it so that the soccer moms and mall-crawlers would buy it...

    Thank you for your very informative videos. 2 problems that I saw you were doing that are wrong. 1) Stopping on the interstate with cars driving by you at high speed. Having actually worked on the side of the freeways and having cars zip by you is very dangerous and careless because you could have pulled off onto an on ramp where driver speeds are lower and you can find a spot farther away from the road. 2) Cutting across the grass/median is against the law and also very dangerous.
    Keep making these informative videos for us Jeepers, but for Christ sake, stay safe and do put yourself in possible dangerous situations. A plastic gas "can" rubbing against carpet can cause static electricity and when touched, especially with gas spilled, can start a fire. Always touch a piece of metal on the car before reaching the gas can to discharge any possible static electricity.

      @@BrandonHaneline I wasn't expecting 0 to 60 to be fast in pure electric. I'm mostly curious to watch the speedo and see how it reacts as it climbs in speed. In hybrid mode the acceleration is smooth all the way to 60. If 0 to 60 in pure electric is under 10 seconds, that would still be impressive.

    Can you clarify the tax credit for PHEV purchase. Will you get that cash back when you file your 2021 taxes?

    • @rkalla
      @rkalla 3 года назад +2

      Sort of - it's not cash back but a credit - which means you need to have at least a $7500 federal tax due for that credit to help offset it. This is why they always say "talk to a tax professional" - it's not dead easy to figure out.

    • @BrandonHaneline
      @BrandonHaneline  3 года назад +1

      In North Carolina it is $7,500. yes you can use it on your 2021 tax returns. Some banks are allowing you to use it as a down payment.

    • @davidcarrico3385
      @davidcarrico3385 3 года назад +5

      @@rkalla there is a tax form that needs to be filled in. Also, when people say you need to have at least a $7500 tax liability that is NOT what you owe after filling out your tax return (it has nothing to do with how much you owe or get back), that is total tax liability including what your employer took out. If you can afford a $50k+ 4xe, then there is a good chance your TOTAL tax liability for the year is over $7500, and you will get the full credit (but confirm with a tax professional). For instance, let’s say someone’s taxable income for the year is $60k. Their marginal tax rate will is somewhere around 22%, but their effective tax rate will be around 14.9% with their total tax liability being around $8990, so they will qualify for the full $7500 credit (this person’s employer may have taken out $8790 during the year in their paychecks, so without the credit at tax time they would owe $200, but the credit is based on the $8990, not the -200, so this person would still get the full $7500 credit - getting a tax refund of $7300 since the 7500 was offset with the -200). Note that I said ‘taxable income’ of 60k, that is after deductions etc so someone with taxable income of 60k likely makes something more than 60k per year in this example.

    Not a great idea to run the Jeep out of fuel. The fuel goes through the internal components of the fuel pump to keep it cool. Running the tank empty may cause the pump to get hot and decrease its expected life.
