    Wanted to comment about oil changes. I believe the manual states that for the 4xe oil changes are recommended every 10,000 miles. The dealership was shocked when I showed them this - they believed it was supposed to be every 5,000 miles driven. With that said, and having owned a Volt for the previous 8 years, you need to change the oil at least every six months because oil breaks down on it’s own, even if you aren’t running the engine.One aspect of maintenance I didn’t hear you touch on are the brakes. If you use max regen often (which I do) then your Jeep is slowed down using the max regen function of the electric motors, which saves your brakes tremendously - I believe it can double the expected life of your brakes - at least this is what I experienced for the Volt

    Got my order in on Aug 8th for a 2023 Wrangler Sahara 4xe. Have received my VIN and my Jeep is in the production queue. Went with a pretty basic build, White with color matched hard top, cold weather package (a must have for me), and the front trail cam. One thing has changed, all 4xe's now have the blue tow hooks.

    We just our Jeep 4XE two weeks ago, I wanted to comment on the Electric range of our jeep. When we first got the jeep, it showed 25 MPGE range, after 2 weeks of driving, I noticed now my MPGE range has improved to 27 MPGE. My normal gas was 22 MPG and now I'm getting 23.6 MPG per gallon. Now, I am just sharing our experience. Also, when driving in Hybrid mode, I try not to accelerate or use over 25 watts and gradually getting up my target speed. Maybe this method of driving is improving the over all performance of our 4XE.

    The BEST 4xe review on the web by a country mile!
    Excellent work, and backed up with actual data! I've owned Jeeps and enjoyed all of them for over forty years. I thought I wanted a diesel; however, I am considering the 4xe as I have heard of overheating problems with the diesel. Having owned several Ford diesel pickups, I am surprised to hear that the Jeep diesel has overheating issues. Again, a solid review.

    I have been thinking about the 4xE and already have a PHEV.
    I like using my regen mode to reduce brake wear as it will do a good job slowing the car when approaching a stop sign/stop light. I have gotten good at judging the distance/timing.
    30 miles on EV would be nicer to see but the greatest shortcoming is that a lot of the charging stations are only CHAdeMO and CCS Combo. :-(
    The people putting the chargers in really need to accommodate J1772 users AND vehicle manufactures need to put in dual receptacles, so we can J1772 at the house and CCS Combo on the road.

      @scottiswatchingtele 2 года назад

      the jeep j1772 is 2012 tech. it will not work on CCS, which is why there aren't there. The jeep is basically using leaf chargers. you should be able to level 1 charge the jeep over night in 8 hrs. it's a big fail for only 22 miles range. 14 hrs level 1. 8 hrs on the ev6 level 1 approx 30-40 miles. The regen on the jeep is exrewmwly weak and barely slows the car. chademo is leaf only and DC charging a leaf kills the battery--trust me on this

    Something to be very carefull about when thinking of buying one of these 4xe is they do not have all the kinks dealt with yet. there seems to be a big problem with the fuel and oil refresh mode that will activate in cold climates. When this comes up it will not allow you to run in electric mode so this really defeats the purpose of owning a 4xe in like say Canada. Currently I'm running into this issue and I hope Jeep finds a solution to this. Very disapointed as I have only owned this Jeep for less than a week and can not use electric only in very cold weather.

    A wrangler is my dream car and has been for the longest. The 4XE took care of my gas guzzler anxiety. But what stopped me is the safety in a Jeep. I have two small kids and the lack of airbags are a deal breaker for me. I get why they don’t have as many but for someone who wouldn’t take it off road or really even customize it, I wish I had the option to add more airbags into it. But once these kids are out the house, I am going right to a Jeep dealership.

    • @ggolds5
      @ggolds5 3 года назад

      Although the rear airbags are missing, overall the crashworthiness of the Wrangler is very good. The actual National Highway Traffic Safety Insurance Institute Crash Data ( real world accidents reported to the insurance agencies ) shows that the Wrangler is better then average in actual crashes for injuries in those crashes. IE safer then most if not all subcompact cars with all their front, side, back airbags. This data has been available since the late 80's ( earlier I think but I was too young to know) and it showed that even the first Wranglers back then were also better then most people would have thought. No airbags back then.

    Seems like a cool concept, but with gas at roughly $3.20 and cost of charge @ $2.00 seems like minimum savings. $1.20 with each charge. With the additional cost of a $1000.00 for a class 2 charger and the additional cost of the vehicle, hard to understand how this saves money. Many buyers no longer qualify for the tax incentives. Additionally, I'm thinking resale will suffer once the vehicle has more than 50,000 miles because buyers will be concerned about a future hybrid battery replacement. If I'm missing something lmk.

    Great video Brandon, been watching your journey with this vehicle as I'm considering one for myself (currently driving a 2016 Mini Cooper S). I can't believe you worked the tax credit into a lease, I would be thrilled if Michigan offered the same as it would make for an outstanding down payment and make this quite affordable. I've already got the garage set up for charging as we've got a Bolt EV in the household, and since this is such a smaller capacity battery, it'll charge nicely around the Bolt's schedule to top-off. Looking forward to more of your videos, keep up the fine work!

      @@BrandonHaneline It's advertised as around 260, but in good weather and regular road driving I'd bet we could squeeze 300 out of it. Granted, that's without a gas engine to fall back on, but that's a LOT of city driving without plugging in. We previously had a Volt here which was rated for about 53 electric miles, which we'd pushed to a best of 70 on a few good days. How many electric miles do you think you can squeeze out of the 4xe electric mode?

    As a master tech for Chrysler I will say check your oil condition at 5k. Too many variables of engine run time to say 5k firm. I would never go over 7k. If the oil is pretty black at 5k change it. Direct injection engine oil gets pretty fuel diluted and dirty over it's port injection counterpart.

    • @BrandonHaneline
      @BrandonHaneline  3 года назад +1

      Jeremy I agree. But let’s say you have 5000 miles on the vehicle but only 2000 miles on the engine would you still change the oil. I’m assuming the answer would be yes because we technically do not have a way to see how many actual miles are on the engine

    • @jeremyh9515
      @jeremyh9515 3 года назад +2

      @@BrandonHaneline 100% based on the oil condition. To many variables on just mileage. In cold climate the cycles will be rich and dilute the oil faster. Very hot breaks down fast as well. Checking condition is best practice. If you pull the dip stick wipe with a paper towel, golden brown slightly dark ok. Very dark and black, change it.

      I agree, I’m a retired jeep master tech also. Love to hear others opinions. 3500 miles on it with 85% oil life left but. I never trusted oil change reminder anyway. Like you said too many variables, engine hours, idle time, fill ups. Ambient temperature..... on and on.

    Love the video! I have owned a Sahara 4xe since last June. A couple things I wanted to comment on. First - the $7500 tax credit is federal - not state - so if you owe $7500 or more in federal tax the year you buy it you get it all back. Currently, if your federal tax bill at the end of the year is less than $7500, you only get back what federal tax you owe, and the remaining credit doesn’t carry over to the next year. Some states have an additional EV tax credit that would differ from state to state. The EV credit for the Jeep 4xe could potentially be increased to $12,500 if the Rebuild America bill passes. It added to the $7500 credit because the Jeep is made in America by a union work-force. This bill will hopefully pass in 2022 - fingers crossed. For me, I bought mine in 2021 so I was able to take advantage of the $7500 tax credit fully. The Electrify America chargers are DC Fast Chargers which some of the newer cars like the Mustang Mach-E can use to charge the batter from about 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes. I live in an apartment and can’t install a 220v outlet in my garage - but living with 110v level 1 charging hasn’t been all that bad. Typically after I go on a trip my Jeep is fully charged in the morning when I need it again. I get about 27 miles on a charge. Living in Orlando this is a great feature. Still, I do miss my 55 miles range of the 2017 Chevy Volt Premier that was my previous car. With my typical driving I am averaging 35 mpg since I bought the car about 9 months ago. Running in hybrid mode I average about 22 mpg. One pesky thing I didn’t like about the Jeep 4xe was that I had to engage max regen mode every time I turned on the Jeep, The owners manual states it’s supposed to remember if it was engaged before turning off the ignition, but sadly this feature doesn’t seem to have been enabled in the Jeep they deliver from the factory. Happily, I was able to purchase the Mini Tazer for the 4xe which among other things (light show!) gives the Jeep the ability to remember the max regen setting so I don’t have to push that button every time I start the car. Keep the videos coming!

    • @mkounalis
      @mkounalis 2 года назад +1

      @@kaylaklapperick2406 I drive primarily in electric only mode when doing short errands - hybrid most other times. I guess my driving keeps me close enough to my home that I drive on electric only a lot of the time. That is how my average so far is right around 35. It goes down if I go on a long road trip where I get about 21-22 mpg but then goes up after I took around on electric only. The 49mpge is if you are in hybrid mode with a fully charge battery. I have seen it once shortly after buying the 4xe but it’s not really what you would get unless you are very conservative and always drive with a fully charged battery.

    My situation: 22-miles commute, one way, 4 days/week. Cheapest gas currently at the $6 handle which, with other trips, puts fuel bill around $120/week. No home charging capability (my HOA has an underground garage, with 117 VAC outlets on the support columns, but the circuits can't take the strain of multiple EVs charging). There is charging at work, but I haven't checked the chargers' compatibility or their availability when I arrive. Off-road capability is a must.
