Reception saw blades is my try going to be and new not burn up should be a great try Great handle and loads of tips. Haw Buddy we learning together ❤️ thanks for teaching Sir
Admittedly crude, but the resourcefulness is off the wall! Amazing. Did the water cause any eventual damage or corrosion to the angle grinder? Great knife. Hoping to make one for leathercraft.
Mike did you heat treat the blades at all? By this I mean heat to red hot and then dunk in oil and then anneal by putting in the oven for 30 -60 minutes. Just wondering.
no, the whole reason for the water pan was to keep the steel cool enough that I didn't have to deal with that. I still have all the bad blanks that I could put through that process to try and get them to harden better but I don't really want to deal with that.
What did you do off camera to the steel so that you could drill through it? I recently made one and had a hell of a time drilling through it. I even brought it up to orange hot and let cool . The steel was still very hard. I smoked 2 drill bits poking through it. Eventually I brought it up to orange hot again and kept it orange for 2 min before letting it cool. Once that was done, I went to sharpen it and it was giving me a raggedy edge . I hardened it and tempered it , quenching in water and that did the trick. Was able to get it razor sharp.
@@BigDaddyOworkshop hey now.. What are you trying to say? Lol actually. Ive got sets of various qualities. I wouldn't risk smoking any of them trying to drill through a piece of mystery steel. I left a long tang . It spanned 3 rivets . The first 2 went without a hitch. After wearing the second bit, I finished it off with a diamond dremel bit
That looks like curly maple, that's awesome that you found a pallet with that in it! Hey man, how can I contact you? Like to talk to you about something!
Thanks for your honesty

Very cool Mike!! I was amazed at the end of all the blades. That's a lot of work and experiment to get to only one useable. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching, and yeah it sucked. I was really wanting one of the smaller blades but it just wasn't to be right now.
Good show and with a purpose I can relate to. THANKS!
Great video, beautiful knife? Awsome reality check, thanks.
Well done, that's a great looking knife!
Nice ending :)
Thanks John. I try to keep it real...
Nice carving knife! I really want to make a marking knife like that.
Thanks! Why don't you try it. Worse thing is you waste a few hours. Though, finding a good old "non carbide" saw blade to use can be tricky.
Nice! Would love to hear more about your belt sander setup.
Can we make without heating and tampering? I have this doubt about forged and unforged tools.

nothing, I just used high quality drill bits.

Very nice, congrats
How do you grind anything on that wheel when it stops when you put a piece of steel up to it?
You ended up with a nice carving knife. Couldnt the other bades be hardened?
Bades? Blades ;)
I might dig them out and put them away for a while, but right now I have no interest in messing with them anymore.
Nice Michael! Where those hard drive magnets you used in the beginning? And love the ending! HaHa.
Yep, I always have a good stock of HDD magnets on hand.
Good job! Thanks.
Good idea making a slot for the blade , but I think you sharp'nd the wrong side
Electric angle grinder in a bath full of water.??
Yes, most carefully done but still raises an eyebrow or 2.
