Thanks, Jason! I really enjoyed making these last two saw blade and firewood knives, so you could say I am carving out a new niche for this channel :-D
question? im confused and new too this on your heating methods shouldn't you heat to 400F to stabilize then quench in oil for the final blade strength id really like too know loved the video me and my son will be making one soon hence why im asking please let me know
@@HacknBuild thanks i will but you were right to quench for 5-7min moving back and fourth for no air bubbles on blade then yup if 1095 carbon steel 400 for 2hrs X2 = 4hrs you had ir right my friend sorry for the confusion lol lol
Hi looks great one question though well too. First what's the thickness of that saw blade that you're using and second where do you find a saw blade that big?
Hey Brian, the blade is from a 14" cold cutting saw and is around 1/8" thick. Since I made this video, I picked up a few more worn out blades from a fabrication shop. I don't know if it's the best source of steel, but it's free :)
Hey thanks Kim! Putting this on my to-watch list. Sharpening blades is one of those skills I am working on improving but still have a long way to go. Thanks for watching, cheers!
I am going to turn that entire saw blade into tools. What should I make next?
draw knife
Could you show your anvil and how you made it?

Looking good brother.
All hand tools? Lol. Nice video 👍. That would take 2 videos to cut metal by hand.
You got that right!
Great project. Love the dad jakes!

Very cool no nonsense build. I’m curious what you used to sharpen the final edge. I’ve seen a lot of different materials and techniques.
I just used a sharpening stone. I have a few different grits. Thanks for watching, cheers!
This is amazing. I can't wait until I get my shop up and going so I can follow along and attempt it on my own. Great video :)
Thanks buddy, looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Awesome!
very well done. thanks for sharing.
great job with limited tools---I have got to try making one!!
Thanks David, It was a fun project!
isnt saw blade already tempered?
Hardened and tempered, yes. When it's heated up to be bent and forged it loses it though.
Just when you think you're done with the puns, you hit me with another one. Subbed, very high quality content for the scale of your channel.
Thanks Mg! Welcome to the channel!
The puns made me jump off the local cliff, I subbed on the way down
Well done
nice work buddy .
Thank you!
Looks great
Thanks, Fifi!
Lefties rule!! :) Great job on the knife, and great video! Also, love the puns at the end - you're really a "cut above the rest" :-D
Ha ha, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
fascinating; I want one!
Get yourself some junk and get to it :) Thanks for watching!

Good luck with your knife. Glad you picked up on some of my mistakes so you don't have to repeat them. Thanks for watching, cheers!

You don't push things fur. You push them far. You can think furth on that.
Belt grinder's not a hand tool, start over!
This video might be of help when it comes time to sharpen your hook knives and other carving tools! Cheers! ruclips.net/video/w-PW70Tha9I/видео.html
