I think you missed that the Dreamcast version has Ki-Adi-Mundi as an unlockable character. He's not in the PS1 version. He also has a purple lightsaber for some reason.
I highly recommend you to read the "Star Wars (1998): Republic", "Star Wars - Jedi Council: Acts of War" and "Star Wars: Jedi (Mace Windu, Shaak Ti, Aayla Secura, Count Dooku and Yoda)" comics, you'll not regret, I promise! In that comics, specifically the first arc from Republic, the ones made between 1998 to 2002, and Acts of War, the Jedi lightsabers' colors was very diversified. Adi Gallia and Even Piell had red lightsabers, Plo Koon had a yellow lightsaber, Yaddle had a orange lightsaber, Ki Adi Mundi and Saese Tiin had purple lightsabers and Mace Windu had a blue lightsaber, for examples.
I played JPB on PS1 start to finish probably 200+ times. Easily my favorite game of that console generation. Loved unlocking crazy combos and writing them down on post-it notes. My brother and I played coop dozens of times. The platforming was frustrating but you can get good enough at it to not be bothered. The challenge and difficulty made it fun to replay. Some of my best video game memories.
Steven, I couldn't have said it better myself! I had the same experience and it was one of my fave games as well. I think my only gripe was that Obi-Wan's special move could be blocked. If I remember correctly, everyone else's special was unblockable. Still though, it was amazing.
Even though the game has rough edges I love it. Honestly the worst part I find about the platforming is being shot while platforming(which is what killed me the most out of everything in the game), just platforming ain't too bad. The last level isn't easy. I love plo Koon because of his powerful moves but he's too slow to beat maul in solo. I'm glad other people appreciate the game.
The subtle roasting of your little brother's platforming abilities was a nice touch 👌 You "accidentally" pushing him off of that platform was a little suspicious though 🤔
Two things I wish you had mentioned in addition to this excellent video: 1. You fight darth maul at the end of Tatooine! 2. The unlockable darth mauls are different in the different versions. On PS1, he’s the Tatooine single-blade version; on Dreamcast, he’s the final battle dual-bladed version. And on GBA, he’s final battle dual-bladed and doesn’t even appear on Tatooine.
@@KasumiRINA yes! That’s Ki Adi Mundi, who in the movies and shows has a blue lightsaber instead. I haven’t unlocked him yet, the training mode is tough lol
I was _really_ excited for this game! While I liked the original Ep1 game, I was disappointed with the lightsaber combat (as I imagine many others were). I remember going to video game stores and holding a copy in my hand several times before I could actually get it myself. When I finally got it I loved it, despite it being very difficult and never managing to finish it. I just kept restarting over and over again any playing as far as I could before the difficulty outdid me. The co-op mode was indeed a test of friendship - the friend I almost always played it with kept picking up all the healing items all the time, even when I needed them more than he did. And since he wasn't particularly bright he became very non-understanding and defensive when I insisted he'd let me get them, as if it was just some item collection hunt.
That's tunnel vision, in the end, if you recover more health because you need it more, you have more chances of beating or making it farther into the game. When I play with my sister she does the same, but she does it because she doesn't know how to play, she just sees items and picks them up.
Yeah I used to love playing Jedi Power Battles back in the day! Found it at a pawn shop for a dollar, played it with my friend and cousins. It's probably awful to most but I'll always love it lol
i love the game. it wasn't awful to me at all as a 12 year old. I enjoyed it and always wanted to play as Darth Maul... and I can't recall clearly but I think i did unlock him. Solid ass game!
I always liked to imagine Yoda was watching the game play out like a movie and he laughs when you pick up the health powerup because he's seen this shit before and knows in about five minutes you'll die in a platforming section and it'll be wasted...
This and Phantom Menace for PS1 were the first ever Star Wars games I played growing up! Had so much fun with them! This channel is such a nostalgia bait and I love it! XD
My goodness, Plo Koon with a yellow lightsabre blade and Mace Windu with a blue blade. That feels so strange if you have grown up knowing that Mace’s is purple and Plo’s is standard blue.
Battlefront 2 gave Aayla Secura 2 lightsabers for some reason so for years I thought that was canon until I realised literally nothing else has her use 2.
I think this is due to The Clone Wars animated series where Plo’s lightsabre colour was the standard blue. Also I’d just noticed that Adi Gallia’s lightsabre seems to be red.
I always wanted this so badly on PS1 as a kid. I had the Gameboy one, but was so disappointed when it only had Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Mace. I wanted to play as Plo Koon so bad!

I have to give you a lot of credit here. I have no relationship to this game whatsoever, I didn't even know it existed. And yet I still find this video fun and interesting. It's a great format!
Unless I'm mistaken, the Dreamcast version added a Training Mode. A mode that I couldn't beat because of the wonderful jumping controls while having to beat them in a certain time (why is there a time limit in a Training Mode?). Where the controls better in the Dreamcast version? Maybe, but I don't think there were a massive improvement.

Your videos are excellent, and you deserve a lot more subs. Hence why you have mine. As for this video in particular, I’m glad you covered Obi-Wan’s Adventures, since I have an interest in it and no one seems to discuss it. I would’ve liked that section to be a tad longer, but I’m glad it was there regardless.
I remember playing this on the ps1. Obiwan had the best combo strings imo. Plo Koon is the slowest among the characters but deals heavy damage. Interestingly, this game getting ported to modern platforms.
Of course Qui-Gon is at the Naboo Celebration. Didn't you see the Obi-wan Disney + series? Getting stabbed in the gut doesn't kill a person in Star Wars.
I was never into Star Wars so much as a kid, but I've always remembered having a starwars game on ps1 and never knew what it was. Until now. Thank you for that!
Great video!! I had the Dreamcast version and remember playing it alot. I beat the game with all 4 characters and Darth Maul. I did manage to beat it with my brother but it was a pain in the ass with all the cheap deaths. Dispite all it's issues I still kinda liked it.
This game will always hold the distinction of the Star Wars game I absolutely hated but couldn’t stop returning to. It came to the point I can’t help but encourage people play if they enjoy brutal action games. It’s infuriating but satisfying and the combat is actually really fun. To the point I would say that Dark Souls is the Jedi Power Battles of its respective series.
I remember getting this game for my 10th birthday. All my friends from school came over and we spent the entire time playing it over and over. Great times
“WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU!” It’s pretty funny, me and my best friend used to beat the ps1 version all the time (though Coruscant and the part where you had to jump on the cars that were flying under the bridge/away from the screen used to consistently eat all our credits). We replayed it about a month ago and it was brutal, but we made it lol. Honestly after that, the Dreamcast version is super easy. Cars the sizes of buses and as you said, much better controls. Perfect example of “your favorite is the first one you played” because I recognize the ps1 version is inferior but I love it much more than the DC version. Great vid as always, Flandrew! And this time the “who’s that Pokémon!” is what killed me lol
I played this like crazy on PS1. There's a ton of memorable things from this game for me: the Tatooine level was a nightmare on co-op during that jumping segment, props to Adi Gala for being my first reverse style lightsaber user, I always remember the guy at 6:24 saying "we've been waiting for you," in a cool way, blaster only secret characters were the ultimate challenge, and I was so pissed when I unlocked Darth Maul and they only let you have one side of the saber lit.
Obi-Wan’s Adventure has more in common with Zelda than Power Battles. Give the usual turnaround time for handhelds and how chaotic LucasArts were BTS far as how they’d greenlight projects, it’s more likely they just liked the sales of Adventure. It wouldn’t even be the weirdest outcome in SW handheld gaming - just look at The New Droid Army, which was supposed to be Diablo by way of Fable but ended up breaking canon -at George’s request-.
This game was my childhood, but I'm clearly misremembering. I remember a level in naboo where you could drive a droid tank. I do remember the game being savagely hard. I also remember there was one of those pre-internet style rumours that if you beat the game with every character, you unlocked Yoda. My friend could never do it with plo koon though, and if I remember right, you could complete the first level with Amidala or Panaka because you couldn't shoot the droid ship at the end. Great video though, thank you
I played this game on PS1. Completed it with my friend. It was hard, but in coop we had more fun than frustration. My go to characters was Obi-Wan and Plo Koon, my friend played Qui-Gon and sometime others. The last stage we played as Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon my friend died at the last battle with Darth Maul and I defeated him for this. It was a nice experience. We was disappointed with additional characters, especially with Maul using standard light saber. I think Dreamcast version have him with double saber like in final battle. Some years later I did try to replay the game and stuck for a long time on last boss of first level. I couldn't get past level 2. I still thing it's a good game despite a lot of flaws and coop is nice when you don't die from constantly falling in pits. But I never recommend it for people, who can barely tolerate any kind of difficulty gameplay.
If Flandrew wants to try a departure from licensed games but have a little more content ideas for this cool version comparison video series, I'd suggest taking a look at the various versions of Rayman 2/64. (PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Game Boy Color)
Really enjoying these videos comparing game versions, I like to see the little differences. I can't hit the bell for notifications, though, youtube just tells me your content is "made for kids" and doesn't let me.
My sister and I used to play the PS1 version all the time growing up. The jump glitch where you pause in the air and then die was always so brutal when you had no lives left lol
Really funny and informative video. I played that game on PS1 alone and I really liked it. But the plattforming and the controls was really hard. But it makes a lot of fun.
Power Battles has a lock-on function for combat. Makes hitting specific enemies much easier. I played through on PS1 with my brother when we were kids. Loved every minute.
Looks like this game is getting a remaster with an additional 13 playable characters. Too bad they're just playable enemies instead of actual new characters. Imagine them adding more of the prequel era Jedi. That would have been awesome.
I once went over to my older cousin's house (distant relatives, we were kinda just getting to know them when I was 10), and he was playing this. I thought it was so cool. I had a SNES and our DOS computer (with nothing but shareware) at home. It was blowing my mind that you could have this cool 3d version of Obi-Wan and the other Jedi running around takijg out droids on your TV. It was like magic. And I was only 10, so I *really* thought Episode 1 was cool. That cousin also watched DBZ and played electric guitar. I was in awe of how cool his life was, lol.
Man, this takes me back to 2002, when my best friend back then and I used to play this all night long. In the beginning it was painful but then once we got the hang of it, we managed to beat it three times in a single night, using different characters. I still play it from time to time on my PC.
We used to play this with my brother when we were kids and could never make it past Coruscant. A few years back we found our old PS1 with no memory card. We decided to play through the game old school style in one sitting without saving and were finally able to beat it. Probably the hardest game I've ever beaten.
I could never quite get past the second level in the naboo greenery when I was younger. This game was difficult for sure, especially the platforming. One pixel off and you're fucked. Still I love this game, along with fighting force on the PS1.
this was my favorite game in the PS1 when I was a kid. But I definitely never got around to finishing it. One thing that I liked and you didn't mention is that the characters had different Force abilities and combos that you had to unlock by reaching high scores in each level. Was that not present in the Dreamcast version?
Man I loved this game as a kid. It was flawed for sure but it was something unique and interesting with Characters both from the movie and from the extended lore (well technicaly they were in the movie only in the background). Sure as hell beats the barron waistland that we have now....
I’d say I “grew up” playing this game because the Co-Op was really fun but considering I don’t think we ever got passed level 2 or 3 I don’t think we really played that much of it lol
I played this with my cousin when I was 7. I was that annoying youth that held us back. Did end up getting Obi-Wan’s Adventures when I was kid and beat that several times (microscopic flex.) Honestly would love to Play Jedi Power Battles again, especially since I’m pushing 30 and coming to the realization that these games I thought were so hard in my youth aren’t as difficult as I made them out to be. Though I don’t doubt the difficulty for this one remains.

more star wars videos, please! i just found you and i love your star wars coverage, you're great and i want more
This game will always hold the distinction of the Star Wars game I absolutely hated but couldn’t stop returning to.
Great times
“WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU!”
It’s pretty funny, me and my best friend used to beat the ps1 version all the time (though Coruscant and the part where you had to jump on the cars that were flying under the bridge/away from the screen used to consistently eat all our credits).
This Star Wars videos are amazing!! Keep it up!
Qui-Gon had too much gin. I see what you did there 😂
Obi-Wan’s Adventure has more in common with Zelda than Power Battles.
My friend and I were so proud when we completed this game on ps1. It was extremely hard but as you get better you become some kind of platforming god.
Don't ever stop making these please
I'm a big fan of Jedi power battles and I really enjoy the PS1 and Dreamcast versions of the game.
You're pumping these videos out like crazy dude. You getting enough water?
If Flandrew wants to try a departure from licensed games but have a little more content ideas for this cool version comparison video series, I'd suggest taking a look at the various versions of Rayman 2/64. (PS1, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Game Boy Color)
I finished Jedi power battles on PS1 version, with my friend. Good times. Loved it
Me and my dad used to play this all the time on PS1, I don't think we ever beat the first level.
I used to play this all night long with my friends when I was like 10. Ah the memories.
I remember this game and the infuriating moments especially on that Naboo level.
Thanks for this, great video it made me laugh.
I have deep childhood memories playing this game with my cousins but we never beat it. Glad to see other people found it so difficult as well
I love these comparison videos dude. Keep it up. 🏄
Didn't even know these were a thing, just came here for the show :)
"I wonder where this takes us. WEEE"
"Game Over"
Nice comparison vid. I love the humour too.👍😂
Looks like this game is getting a remaster with an additional 13 playable characters.
Too bad they're just playable enemies instead of actual new characters. Imagine them adding more of the prequel era Jedi. That would have been awesome.
I'd love a playable Jedi Count Dooku
I once went over to my older cousin's house (distant relatives, we were kinda just getting to know them when I was 10), and he was playing this. I thought it was so cool. I had a SNES and our DOS computer (with nothing but shareware) at home. It was blowing my mind that you could have this cool 3d version of Obi-Wan and the other Jedi running around takijg out droids on your TV. It was like magic. And I was only 10, so I *really* thought Episode 1 was cool. That cousin also watched DBZ and played electric guitar. I was in awe of how cool his life was, lol.
I can honestly say, me and my friend never made it past the first level. This game was really hard, especially for kids
Man, this takes me back to 2002, when my best friend back then and I used to play this all night long. In the beginning it was painful but then once we got the hang of it, we managed to beat it three times in a single night, using different characters. I still play it from time to time on my PC.
All starwars game from this era "if you remember beating up jar jar"
We used to play this with my brother when we were kids and could never make it past Coruscant.
A few years back we found our old PS1 with no memory card. We decided to play through the game old school style in one sitting without saving and were finally able to beat it. Probably the hardest game I've ever beaten.
Maul jumping down the reactor shaft 😂😂
I remember playing this game non-stop with my friend. we finished the game mulitple times together on playstation and it was so fun!!
The platforming in Jedi Power Battles was tough.
I could never quite get past the second level in the naboo greenery when I was younger. This game was difficult for sure, especially the platforming. One pixel off and you're fucked. Still I love this game, along with fighting force on the PS1.
I loved this game so much on PS1 I used to play coop with my cousin, then play coop by myself switching controllers between jumps and whatnot.
Yeah another Star Wars vídeo! Love it ❤️❤️❤️
2:15 - oof poor qui gon looks like he's about to be count dooku'd 😅🤣
this was my favorite game in the PS1 when I was a kid. But I definitely never got around to finishing it. One thing that I liked and you didn't mention is that the characters had different Force abilities and combos that you had to unlock by reaching high scores in each level. Was that not present in the Dreamcast version?
Oh man, I had the GBA version of this game back in the day and it was absolutely infuriating. I never got more than a level or two into it.
Jedi Power Battles is one of the best games I played back in the day on the PS1
Man I loved this game as a kid. It was flawed for sure but it was something unique and interesting with Characters both from the movie and from the extended lore (well technicaly they were in the movie only in the background).
Sure as hell beats the barron waistland that we have now....
I remember playing the PS1 version COOP style at friend's house. It was so fun.
I’d say I “grew up” playing this game because the Co-Op was really fun but considering I don’t think we ever got passed level 2 or 3 I don’t think we really played that much of it lol
We were also only like 6/7 at the time and playing on a ps2 without a memory card lol
I am endlessly fascinated by how many random GBA games are out there that I've never heard of
I played this with my cousin when I was 7.
