Hello, Flandrew! I recently found a pretty interesting thing - Goblet of Fire fan game, made in 2004-2005. Sadly, there's no download link, but here's the video of it: m.ruclips.net/video/4IjSzzDn4zk/видео.html What do you think of it? This, beside graphics, looks very well-done.
I was thinking about Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. It came out in 2007 and similar to The Force Unleashed had three different versions on seven platforms: the flagship version on PS3/360, a Wii version ported to PC, PS2 and PSP, and a DS version. The Wii version had extras like poker, pirate dice, or replaying any level as other characters you unlocked like Davy Jones or the Pirate Lords

@@MattII33 have you seen the other vids in the series there's not a lot to do compared to them. less combat, puzzles, dungeons, just everything that people enjoyed about the early games. its not that it had no gameplay but what was there was so much less then previous games and what was there was more monotonous. doesn't mean you can't enjoy it but that's why is because compared to the rest of the other games the gameplay feels nonexistant.

Oh, damn. I literally thought I was the only person to be aware of the nokia version’s existence. I still remember these extremely challenging stealth missions and all the trouble I had completing them.
I played this one in the Wii, and I must say that I think you're completely right about the gestures being designed with the Wii in mind. I remember this being my favourite Harry Potter game just because it actually was an open World with NPCs around. The fact that the story and missions are lacking was a secondary issue, because as a former HP fan, all I wanted was a game where I could go around Hogwarts and discover stuff. The best open world Harry Potter game was actually the fan-made Minecraft one (Witchcraft and Wizardry). You should look it up. It's both open world AND full of fun stuff to do. It's miles ahead of any of the official HP games I played.
I remember having the DS version and hearing students chatting and laughing in the corridors of Hogwarts but not actually seeing any of them... Yeah, that was creepy XD
I've played through the Wii version of this game so many times I've lost count. It may sound weird, but I actually like all the wandering around. It makes it feel more like a real place. The added nostalgia aspect now just adds to it
I remember one of the conversations Harry has with the gargoyles is actually from the book where the gargoyle chastises Harry for damaging it during last year when he was being chased by the dragon and crashed into one of them. I got this game in a PS2 Bundle when my previous PS2 broke. I played it for a few hours I think and then read the manual to see what there was to do, and I remember the manual calling the post-game an 'Endless Day' where you can roam and explore Hogwarts.
Played the PC version as a kid. Because I played with the Mouse Gestures turned off (that is an option, though many don't know about it) - moving with the Arrow Keys, casting spells with WASD - it actually wasn't hard at all to cast spells. At the time, I really loved exploring Hogwarts, and just that fact alone made me really fall in love with it. Replayed it a bunch of times. Having replayed it recently though, and it's just not that fun. Sure, we can explore Hogwarts, but it's not really that interesting looking, there's nothing meaningful to find, other than the "discovery points" system. (Though I will say, the two "recruit DA members" parts actually helped, because the non-liniarity improved the game's exploration. I was really disappointed by the way Half-Blood Prince was crazy short, and only had one quest at a time - the steamroller through the story didn't give me time or motivation to explore the castle). I'm really hoping that Hogwarts Legacy makes exploring the castle much more interesting and rewarding.
I remember loving this game as a kid. It was so fun to walk around Hogwarts as it was present it the movies and the spellcasting with the analog stick was fun. But now I realize that there really wasn't much to do.
Order of the phoenix was the last HP movie tie in game I played. I never touched HBP nor the two deathly hallows ones. I remember being constantly lost, following footsteps, doing inane ball and wizard card mini games over and over, and basically dropping the game during the first batch of “collect all the DA students” miniquests. I kind of appreciate that it’s a playable 3D Hogwarts, but 5 onwards never was my favorite movie depiction of the castle. Now if I had gotten to explore hogwarts from philosopher stone or chamber of secrets, I would’ve been all the heck over it. Sadly, OOTP just reproduces the exact same problem as the movie of having a downright disgusting choice of color composition… the quality of the games really waned as the quality of the movies did.
I love these Harry Potter gameplay comparison videos. If it wasn’t for your channel I would’ve never known there were even different versions of the previous games to begin with. Thanks so much for your work, these videos are amazing and deserve more views
I loved the PS3 version as a kid. Comparing it to the PS2 HP games I loved was mind-blowing. But then I tried to pick up the game again in 2022, and, since the scale isn't all that impressive anymore, it didn't have a lot going for it. And I think the graphics, animations, and controls are a dead giveaway that this game was designed first with the Wii in mind.
Love this series. I know it must be hard to make these comparison videos when there's fewer versions of the game to compare, but kudos Flandrew for another interesting video. Keep them coming!
I've personally spent hunderds of hours in the PC version, being my main speedrun game. Glad you actually did it justice making a fair review, pointing out its major flaws. Also watching it reminded me of my beginings with the game. Throwing benches, now powerful moved used to shuts your friends up, used to be just a fun tool to mess with NPCs. Climbing, which still feels slow, was even slower back when you didn't know you can just spam the sprint button to do that faster. DA members were (kinda) fun to search for, and discover their tasks, instead being on a pre-calculated route you need to follow to save every second possible. Thanks for the throwback! As for the other releases - i didnt play much handheld hp5, but it has very bad opinion arounds us. And Java... I remember having a lot of fun with it, but couldn't get myself to finish it after the years.
1:13 The "trace", that is, the spell that is placed on magical children the first time they visit school (without them noticing, of course) to detect usage of magic, can only detect whether magic has been performed in a small area around that child. That means that anyone performing magic in the vicinity of that child also triggers the trace. Therefore, children that have a magical parent are expected to be supervised by them. It is safe to assume that some children had some freedoms given by their parents on the usage of magic at home during holidays. However, that is entirely different for children that live with muggles. If the trace is triggered it was almost certainly done so by the child which is why Harry got expelled so quickly. This also means that Harry, whilst being at Grimmauld Place, could've used his magic freely as the ministry would've had to assume that it was another wizard or witch who triggered the trace. Same goes for The Burrow. This is also why Hermione was able to fix Harry's glasses in The Chamber of Secrets in Diagon Alley without consequences.
It's crazy how even the best of these games where pretty underwhelming considering the source material. A huge magic castle, haunted woods, the marauders map, flying on brooms, dueling other students... like what a missed opportunity 8 times in a row.
I absolutely loved this game- loved the castle, the duels, the tasks (apart from the kestrels and the glitchy clocktower). I might have to play it again after watching this!
this is such a fun series !! i adoredddd this game growing up (still love it), i played it on ps2 and loved the sense of adventure and the feeling that you're actually in hogwarts. i think the first three games did a great job with that too, especially the music and ambiance, but i think with OOTP being so similar to the movies it enhanced that immersive feeling. i loved all the small secrets you could find and unlock stuff in that room with myrtle lol?? i know the tasks with the DA members go on for ages and the gameplay can be a bit wonky but i personally really enjoyed it and have great memories playing it!
7:21 that was the portrait of sirius' mother. That was one of the biggest thorns in the order's side during their stay at number 12 grimmauld place in the book. If they woke her up she would start screaming about mudbloods and blood traitors defiling her house. They were unable to remove her portrait because of enchantments, so they just had to be quiet around her
I read in a bunch of fanfics where the Order just cut out the wall around her, then either set her portrait on fire or just chucked it in the attic LOL
i didnt feel like the video mentioned, perhaps bc i just really really enjoyed wandering through hogwarts and the spell system felt so magical to me, the fact that you dont select the spells out of a list to cast them, but YOU has to remember how to do it, felt really great back then, for me. and hogwarts is unbelievable in this game, i rly rly like it, my favorite HP game
didnt realise you kept making these, cant wait for half-blood prince because it is the game that came closest to capturing the feel of the first 3. great vid as always!
Great video! Though I think the PSP version could have gotten more coverage, for what I remember there are actual health bars in that game. And the game has other differences compared to the console versions for example department of mysteries has more gameplay. And if I recall correctly there are battles that you can lose in the console version but you have to win in PSP version to progress, for example when Umbridge finds the room of requirements.
This was an underrated game at the time. Exploring Hogwarts was pretty awesome. I had it on PS3. The PSP version looks cool though. Not sure how they go it to fit!
It's funny - I only ever played the first HP game, way back when I was young - and yet I've been loving this series you've been putting out. Great work!
I had the ds version of this game as a kid and got nostalgic for it a couple years ago. Tracked it down online for 15 bucks and played it again. I forgot about the little fade to black screens as you moved from area to area. Potions was lit though. I've still got the ds cartridge somewhere
Fun fact: Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley),Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy),Oliver and James Phelps (George and Fred Weasley),Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood),Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom),Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley),Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas), Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick),Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) are the Actors from movie reprise the character in this game. Some Actor continue reprise on the next game
I love how in every video that has a sponsorship in it you can see by the video bar that almos everyone skipped the add makes my wonder how some companys keep on getting new customers like Raid, or north
Honestly, with the motion controls the Wii version inproves the game a lot, it made the whole experience a lot more immersive and I can asure you, even at this time I can remember most of the gestures for each spell. Also, Fighting at the end as Dumbledore is pretty dope.
I'll never forget playing Order of the Pheonix on my DS when I was a kid. I thought that the turn-based RPG style was so cool and fit really well. Would love to revisit it one day. Thanks for covering these I've loved them so far!!
I love the PC version as it uses voices from some of the actual cast members. But the DS version included a few more playable characters as you could control Fred & George too in one of the fights and apart from Dumbledore and Sirius, one of the ministry battles also had you briefly controlling Lupin, which was nice too.
Another awesome video! I loved the first few Harry Potter games, and never got a chance to play anything past GoF, so I love seeing the in depth analysis of each version of these games! Very satisfying to see, and brings some good nostalgia
I got the PC version not one week before my PC stopped working, and by the time I got it fixed I no longer owned it. But judging by the reviews of the game, I didn't miss out on much.
My childhood gaming years can be condensed into three franchises: Spyro, Lego, and the Harry Potter games. Thank you for these videos. It’s nice to watch and look back and remember the fun times playing these gems. The Order of the Phoenix was so unique and is one of those games that does sound tedious, specially if you’re watching, but once you start playing and immerse yourself in this massively detailed map you can easily forget the extensive walking. I enjoyed the mini games, my favourite was gobblestones, and also loved exploring the castle trying to find all the secrets and check marking all the achievements in the trophy room.
I can't believe the NDS version is the superior one, it's the one I played in my childhood! Thanks for another fun video! I guess I should check the other ones...
About Sirius talking Harry could cast spells since he wasn't at the Dursleys anymore, I think that's a refference from the books, I don't remember WHAT book, but one of them tells that the magic they have to track young wizards from using magic is not perfect, so they rely on parents from young wizards to NOT allow them to use magic at their homes. This tracking system only works on wizards that lives in non-wizard homes, such as Harry and Hermione, or when they are alone without other wizards around. As soon as you have ONE adult wizard around you, and he uses magic, they will ignore the possibility it's you using it because the tracking system tracks the use of magic in the vicinity not the useer casting magic. Another thing I always wondered that those games made me think is: If harry was alone on the Order's hideout at that point, since that place is protected by the password only Dumbledore knows, would the ministry be able to track down Harry? Or would that special kind of barrier protect the user agaisnt such methods? xD Anyway, nice videos, I always love to see all different versions of a game. This series are awesome!
I do have some weird fondness for the PC version, I enjoyed the incidental tidying up when I stumbled into it, and, at least conceptually, the little rebellion against Umbridge bit. There is a lot of walking around though, it's true... You can make it a bit better by turning off the footprints, which will take you through the same 2 routes over and over again and just explore. Also, the combat was dreadful, you should be pleased there wasn't more of it (also not to be that person, but the reason Harry got in trouble was for casting magic in the presence of Muggles, whereas in Grimmauld Place they're all wizards so it's okay)
One thing I loved about this game is the secrets you discover, a few Easter eggs such as the entrance to the chamber of secrets although you can't go in. But then the room or rewards, the more secrets you find, more extras are unlocked there, behind the scenes of the game videos. In one they state how they understood fans were disappointed with the goblet of fire game and decided to go back to basis and make a better. I think this game could have been better but I enjoyed playing it. Was still over a decade before Hogwarts legacy
the gba one is the best. you get to take classes, its an RPG, you get to duel, you take your OWLs at the end of the year. everything the new HP Legacy game will try and meet the expectations of
So far I've played the PS2 and PC versions. They are basically the same, but in terms of graphics the PC version is far superior and it's amazing how detailed Hogwarts is if you take into account how old this game is. After watching your video I think I might play the PSP version to see what are the differences 😁
I almost never comment on youtube but you have some of the funniest videos I have watched in a long time. Your content with the dry delivery and editing just kills me, it's way funnier than it should be. Keep it up bro, I'm not even a gamer but I'll watch anything you put out
The Goblet of Fire game was so bad I gave up on Harry Potter games, so I never played this one. From how you describe it, I think the game needed a system like Canis Canem Edit where you has classes to go to, and then in-between that you have story missions, and then some free time for side quests. Order of the Phoenix just seems like _nothing but_ side quests 😅
I never got around to playing any version of OftP, the Goblet game, the Phoenix movie, and to a degree the final book, were comparatively such letdowns that they pretty much ended my active Potter fandom. With that said I always thought the video game adaptation of the film looked interesting whenever I got glimpses of it while visiting a friend, so these retrospectives are really fascinating. Good work with presenting them!
You forgot to mention the „Leveling-System“ on the PC version. At least I think it was supposed to some kind of leveling system. Like every now and then after interact with something in the environment you gain orbs and the game told you „Your spells are stronger now!“ (Never really felt like that but anyway) Oh and not to forget you got interrupted by Myrtle everytime, complaining you haven‘t been in the secret room for a while.
I really like this game for the PC/consoles. I enjoyed exploring Hogwarts, finding portrait passwords, discovering magic, doing the homework sidequests, etc. However, I do miss finding secret rooms, platforming, doing spell challenges, etc. like in the first three games.

How can this possibly be in the book? Harry wasn't chased by the dragon in the book.
You deserve more subs.
Please don’t change your video format. It’s gold. Straight to the point. No BS love watching them.
Really like how these videos keep improving. Ill be sad when we run out of the Potter games
The wizard chess minigame in the PC version is actually what made me join the chess club in school lol
Man learning of all these Potter games honestly never fails to brighten up my day! Thanks Flandrew
I hated the movies from 3 onward
The orden of the Phoenix was my favorite HP game, endless things to see and interact. And obviously hitting people with furnitures is really funny
Love this series. I know it must be hard to make these comparison videos when there's fewer versions of the game to compare, but kudos Flandrew for another interesting video. Keep them coming!
Thank you
@@Flandrewur welcome
Honestly your channel is really underrated. Loving your content keep it up!
these videos are such a pleasant surprise ☻ never thought anyone else felt weird playing like 4 forms of the same game consistently growing up lol
9:47 LMAO Umbridge backhand slapping Harry, i'm cryyyingggg
LMAO
5:52 the dry humor in these videos is one of my favorite things XD
7:21 that was the portrait of sirius' mother. That was one of the biggest thorns in the order's side during their stay at number 12 grimmauld place in the book. If they woke her up she would start screaming about mudbloods and blood traitors defiling her house. They were unable to remove her portrait because of enchantments, so they just had to be quiet around her
I read in a bunch of fanfics where the Order just cut out the wall around her, then either set her portrait on fire or just chucked it in the attic LOL
Funny. I thought it was Kreacher
@@floridianliau35 you can hear her talking if you listen closely. Kreacher's trying to soothe her
I see. When I first watched the movie, I thought Kreacher was just a generic racist house elf.
i didnt feel like the video mentioned, perhaps bc i just really really enjoyed wandering through hogwarts and the spell system felt so magical to me, the fact that you dont select the spells out of a list to cast them, but YOU has to remember how to do it, felt really great back then, for me. and hogwarts is unbelievable in this game, i rly rly like it, my favorite HP game
Please keep this series going! I've really been enjoying watching the Harry Potter ones. Hope we can see them all.
didnt realise you kept making these, cant wait for half-blood prince because it is the game that came closest to capturing the feel of the first 3. great vid as always!
My man's gone and done it again! Wish you'd spent more time on the PSP version but thats coz Im a mega PSP fanboy! Thoroughly enjoyed this as usual!
Still can't believe there is a channel that covers THE games from my childhood in such depth. Love the content :)
Fun fact: Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley),Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy),Oliver and James Phelps (George and Fred Weasley),Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood),Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom),Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley),Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas), Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick),Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) are the Actors from movie reprise the character in this game. Some Actor continue reprise on the next game
2:55 Kid's zonked out, with that thousand yard stare.
I love how in every video that has a sponsorship in it you can see by the video bar that almos everyone skipped the add makes my wonder how some companys keep on getting new customers like Raid, or north
Kids. They always count on them...
Honestly, with the motion controls the Wii version inproves the game a lot, it made the whole experience a lot more immersive and I can asure you, even at this time I can remember most of the gestures for each spell. Also, Fighting at the end as Dumbledore is pretty dope.
3:50 "Are. you. looking. at. me." Lol
The amount of work you put into these comparison videos is incredible man. 👏
I'll never forget playing Order of the Pheonix on my DS when I was a kid. I thought that the turn-based RPG style was so cool and fit really well. Would love to revisit it one day. Thanks for covering these I've loved them so far!!
Watching you fail at the wand movements made me so much more thankful you could perform then with the arrow keys as well as the mouse on PC.
Yeeees, been looking forward to this video! (I LOVE the Wii version, so it will be interesting to see it being compared to its HD counterparts).
It looks so much better
I loved playing the PS2 version of this growing up, but watching the way you tore it apart with valid criticisms was hilarious 😂
The last game of the series was released in the very beginning of the last decade. But it’s amazing that you are making in-depth videos of the games.
You’re easily becoming my favourite channel on RUclips, Flandrew. Keep it up!
After Harry Potter, it would be cool to see similar comparisons of The Lord of the Rings games
I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and I’m glad you have made this series as long as it is
Love this series. Fast becoming a channel I watch on repeat when I need something pleasant after a hard day. Loving your work.
3:45 Neville look like young Harry Maguire. 😹
XD
10:50 as a kid it was all i wanted to be fair. Replayed it several times.
Or would that special kind of barrier protect the user agaisnt such methods? xD
Anyway, nice videos, I always love to see all different versions of a game. This series are awesome!
Mate, your commentary and edits on this had me creased up. Well played son
9:22 those high pitched sounds freaked me out
Yes. Thank you. Next video is Half Blood Prince i guess but nothing much changed about platforms.
Excited for the Half-Blood Prince video, I used to play the PS2 version!
I almost never comment on youtube but you have some of the funniest videos I have watched in a long time. Your content with the dry delivery and editing just kills me, it's way funnier than it should be. Keep it up bro, I'm not even a gamer but I'll watch anything you put out
The next entry in the legendary Every Version of Harry Potter series! Thanks, Flandrew, these videos are the best!
Dude, ur Channel is one of my favs nowadays. I get excited for every video
Exact same thing.. I'm mad now, just played it and it was fun
But in the psp version they didn't add the expecto patronum part
I never got around to playing any version of OftP, the Goblet game, the Phoenix movie, and to a degree the final book, were comparatively such letdowns that they pretty much ended my active Potter fandom. With that said I always thought the video game adaptation of the film looked interesting whenever I got glimpses of it while visiting a friend, so these retrospectives are really fascinating. Good work with presenting them!
You forgot to mention the „Leveling-System“ on the PC version.
At least I think it was supposed to some kind of leveling system.
Like every now and then after interact with something in the environment you gain orbs and the game told you „Your spells are stronger now!“
(Never really felt like that but anyway)
Oh and not to forget you got interrupted by Myrtle everytime, complaining you haven‘t been in the secret room for a while.
'Running around Hogwarts, aimlessly wiggling your wand around and slowly climbing ledges..."
Yeah...
It was fucking awesome.
I'm so happy I stumble accross your channel, I'm so hyped every time i see a new video in my subscription !
Thank for your amazing work.
The “15 chocolate frogs” bit literally made me LOL
Is it just me or the gba and DS version give me resident evil vibes😭
It’s certainly flawed, but after the turbo disaster of GoF, it’s like giving slightly dirty water to a man dying of thirst.
I really like this game for the PC/consoles. I enjoyed exploring Hogwarts, finding portrait passwords, discovering magic, doing the homework sidequests, etc. However, I do miss finding secret rooms, platforming, doing spell challenges, etc. like in the first three games.
