Still insane to think these were the same people who worked on Sonic 3D Blast, which was held back by releasing on both Genesis and Saturn and could have been so much more as a Saturn exclusive. I really enjoyed the original Lego Star Wars because as you progressed through the game and unlocked more characters, Dexter's Diner would gradually become a melting pot of characters from the the prequel trilogy and all the different heroes and villains would have a massive brawl in the parking lot.
I feel like that melting pot aspect has been lost in newer games. I'd dearly appreciate the option to make custom levels with any characters and settings of choice.

@@SonicBoone56 Mumble mode is just replacing voice lines with gibberish, similar to Crazy Dave from the Plants Vs. Zombies series. Old LEGO games conveyed the meaning of voice lines with physical props and gestures, and rarely had long voice lines, just short grunts and maybe a scream or two. The Skywalker Saga's mumble mode fails to capture the feel of the old LEGO games, which I feel reveals that Traveller's Tales never intentionally created that feel for the LEGO games, it was just a byproduct of their decision to not include full voice acting.

I've spent a solid 10 hours of my total playtime just wandering around with Luke, collecting kyber bricks and imagining he's on some sort of journey to discover the Force and vanquish the empire and it's really fun. Great video!
For the next video it might be worth it to also include the original Lego Star Wars game: "Lego Star Wars: The Video Game". This game only included episodes 1-3, and for the most part was later ported into the The Complete Saga, however there are quite a few changes made.
For example the Pod racing level was quite a bit different in the original level where you had a timer for each section which was removed in the Complete Saga version, they also removed the instant restart after dying, in the complete saga you can just continue. This made the original quite a bit harder.
In Episode II there are quite a lot more changes, the first level in the Complete Saga "Bounty Hunter Pursuit" wasn't part of the original game. The original game only had 5 chapters in Episode 2. Furthermore, the chapter 5 "Gunship Cavalry" also was quite different. In the original game you were forced forward (and also had to restart the level on death), while in the Complete Saga you could fly freely and can just continue on death. (You can actually play this original version as a bonus level in the complete saga).
The original game also had some more subtile changes, for example the puzzle you showed at 0:48 wasn't present in the original game
but was only added in the complete saga version. The complete saga also added the bonus levels, and blue mini-kit challenges to all levels.
I think it might be nice to include this original version as well and show the original cantina featured as the hub world which as awesome :)

When I tried out The Skywalker Saga, it felt too much. I had no idea what to do or where I should go, because of how many things was happening on the screen at the same time, *on the first level!* This is one thing I don't like about modern gaming. It feels like the devs are just throwing as many bells and whistles as possible, just to make a game feel complete by today's standards. But like you said, it loses the pick-up and play aspect of the original. Sometimes more doesn't equal better. I'll stick with The Complete Saga.

I really wanted the game myself, but all I had was a Gameboy Advance. I begged and begged for the game and got it as an early birthday gift. I knew going in it wouldn't be the same as the PS2 experience...
But you know what? It was pretty darn close! Sure, it was missing cutscenes; opting to display story moments via slide show with minimal music and sounds and sure, you started at the beginning of the level when you died and sure, all the characters had only one version of themselves spread throughout all three episodes (For example, you play as Phantom Menace Obi-Wan in all three episodes) but man, the gameplay was pretty 1:1 of the console experience. I was so blown away at the time. The game also has cooler cheats than the console counterpart.

Hey! it's great comparison but I think you really need to differentiate the 2005 Lego Star Wars and the Complete Saga more, you do mention in the video that the space level doesn't exist in the original 2005 game, just the Complete Saga, but they changed/added a bunch of levels, mostly vehicle-based, for the Complete Saga using the second game's mechanics like energy balls, specifically those meant for the first episode were intended to appear in the 2005 game but were cut due to time constraints. They also somewhat improved graphics, changed old level mechanics to better fit the sequel's gameplay (for example, 2005 characters couldn't dodge, only jedi could deflect), slightly altered some cutscenes for the Complete Saga (added/changed scenes here and there, minor stuff) and the hubs where you choose levels/look at collectibles are different in each game (which I think is the biggest loss in the Complete), as well as added powerups that weren't in the 2005 title.
There's a slight possibility that I'm horribly wrong about all these but the quick research I did before commenting proves that my memory didn't deceive me at least for the most part.

Growing up I had every version of Lego Star Wars; the first PS2 release,GBA then Complete Saga on Xbox 360 and DS. So many great memories of my siblings and I playing them. Of course I got The Skywalker Saga and really enjoyed the game, I like the open world aspect because once you beat the game unlike the originals where you only had the same few levels to play over and over again this one has so many side quests and puzzles it keeps your interest after the main game is completed

My memory of playing The Phantom Menace part of the PS2 version of Lego Star Wars will always be soured by my copy consistently crashing right at the start of the final level, never got it working and for whatever reason the entire rest of the game never crashed. That and being stuck on the Pod Race level for months.

gotta love the old 2005 LSW compared to the complete saga, they initially planned for each episode to have 7 levels each, with the missing phantom menace level being the bongo chase, I believe. Anakin's Flight was supposed to be there too, and it was an on-rails level much like Battle over coruscant and Flagship Cavalry, but was re-done to be more like LSW2's flying levels while re-doing some of the assets
Episode 2 is EXTREMELY butchered in the original, with the original car chase on coruscant and a space jango chase level being cut, the former was turned into another free-roaming level in the complete saga so all episodes have an even 6 levels. You can see they put more work on the more IMPORTANT stuff like previewing people on Episode 3, who's only missing the Boga chase.
My favorite memory from the original is dexter's diner and obi wan's eyes literally popping out of his character model when quigon gets killed, I think for a while they "fixed" that for the complete saga but I always preferred the original

Great idea with this series. Indiana Jones had lego and different multiplatform versions for several games but dunno about popularity. Maybe having games by generation could evolve the series, for example comparing the 6th generation games for Tomb Raider with PS2, J2ME and GBC games.

The GBA version was the first one I owned. I remember obsessively playing it the entire year. It wasn’t until Christmas of that year when I got an XBOX and the game with it.
The only thing I really dislike about this movie in the GBA version is that Qui-Gon is terrible at blocking shots, so it’s hard to get through his levels without dying.

Not to be pedantic, but technically the Ota Gunga, Theed and Mos Espa sequences aren’t levels. They’re the hub world connecting the actual levels. An important distinction because those sections aren’t replayable in free play. You’d have to restart the entire game to see those parts of the story again.

It's worth mentioning that the Complete Saga version of the podrace was neutered compared to the very original Lego Star Wars The Videogame version of the podrace. It's far easier in TCS, and honestly less fun as a result. I remember struggling a lot with the original podrace on the Xbox version of LSW:TVG. It was great lol
