I'm a trans guy. Didn't have the courage to come out until my 30s. I gasped when you mentioned the soldiers in the Civil War - I was absolutely obsessed with those soldiers and soldiers in the American Revolution, who dressed as men to fight. I wanted to be them so badly. I never made the connection about my love for them until now.

I love how so many people who disagree with transgender, reply to all the comments supporting trans rights. Now I don't know how a trans person feels, so I don't want to judge them just because I`m taught to disagree, the fact they have courage to undergo surgeries to be who they wanna be, tells me it isn't a choice. I`m gay, and as I was hitting puberty and stuff, I realized I was gay, but now looking at my old pics of me as a 5 or 10 year old, I literally have seen me posing girly, like gay. I`m muslim, so I wasn't taught or even knew about lgbtq+, I was born gay.
Have you told your parents yet? If so, was it good/bad? I agree with everything you are saying. None of my business, Especially as a gay man myself. It takes nothing to be kind. It's free in fact 😎

I’m teenage and transmasc. Dysphoria sucks and it’s cool that you look back on photos like that. You are 100% correct it is not a choice. I remember the first time I realized “wait, why am I in a girl’s body? Wasn’t I happy as a girl just a moment ago?” and It finally clicked and I found the right pronouns/name, it just felt right. It’s like how you know something’s wrong, but you don’t fully understand until it it clicks.
I hope that I can get surgery and T. I’m really scared of surgery but I would go through so much pain to be in the right body.

Your not born gay necessarily many children do girly things as a kid they simply don't understand gender and thus don't care what they do is considered girly or not (I give kudos for realizing your past though) but what just irritates me so much is when people are loud and have a pride month when our veterans who fought to the death to secure your freedom and allow you to be gay and they only get a single day

Saying what you said in terms of world history is like you making a mistake, then you struggle to overcome the results of that mistake, and then you don't bother to remember the reason you went through that struggle in the first place because it's in the past so it doesn't matter. Then at some point in the future you make that exact same mistake because you didn't bother to learn from your previous actions.

My school has a uniform. The girls wear skirts, the boys pants. During winter, we the girls are also allowed to wear pants. So when we started wearing skirts again a bit over a month ago we were surprised to see a girl had come out and came to school wearing a skirt. She had worn make up before before she started wearing the skirt, often wore shoes with heels and did her hair in androgynous styles. No one expected her to fully come out as a girl though. I personally thought she was just really free with her gender until then.
The first week or so I saw her being alone quite a lot and started to worry that she had lost some friends because of the transition, and people kept talking about her and spreading rumours. The boys in my class couldn't shut up about it, mocking her new looks and coming up with fake, terrible female names to replace her male one.
But right now I see she's with people again and she seems to be doing fine. My school also did a workshop around LGBTQ+ people and it was well received by everyone, even by some of my classmates who typically don't react well to those kinds of things.
In the end I think it all worked out fine. I just wanted to share this story. Thanks for reading!

edit: I guess that this comment has blown up again, presumably because of pride. As stated in my replies, knowledge has never hurt anyone. It’s appalling that people who presumably are American would fight so hard to prevent their kids from accessing the most nuanced, well-rounded education possible. Learning builds empathy and creates a better society over all. If you can’t cite a specific way in which this video has hurt you as a person, don’t come to my comment to complain.
edit to the edit: Also, it’s important to note that I am not trans, but every day I see the pain that my trans friend goes through for feeling like she is not good enough- I hear the stories of her getting called slurs by random adults on the street, and I know deep down that human kind has the ability to BE kind. Through learning, we find that we aren’t as different as we think. I will never stop advocating for empathy.

given the context, if you make that same argument but replacing "trans people" with black or gay people wanting civil rights and stuff, that argument gives the same message but nothing really changes, it's just an empty argument against.

I’d say 75000 views in 3 years is quite a few more than “pretty alone”. Why is it that stuff regarded to be "female" is reworded and rephrased by the trans community but stuff regarded as "male" - no one says a word?
For instance, "mother" replaced by "birthing person". But the word "father" remains the same. Explain this...
Also, "menstruating women" is considered offensive (it is to be stated as "menstruating people").
But, I have NOT heard anyone from the trans community take offence at "men" (absolutely no one says "men" should be called "people with penises").

These are medical terms. People don’t actually use them casually, dummy. When making blanket statements about menstruation, like if you’re a doctor, it would be more inclusive to say “people who menstruate” than just saying “women,” because not every woman menstruates and some trans men do. But I’ll bet you $250 that you would never encounter someone utilizing that same terminology in a different, more casual context. Does that clear that up?

@@Lagchunk I take back what I said earlier partly. Trans people have equal rights under the constitution, but they aren't treated equally. Examples: being banned from most competitive sports, constantly being bullied and ridiculed by people like you, not being accepted by their families, and not being comfortable with the bathrooms they have to use a lot.
I was surprised to see you didn't mention Dr Harry Benjamin, for who the Benjamin Standards of Care and the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association (HBIGDA and later WPATH) were named after. He played a huge role in normalizing the treatment of transgender people, even writing a book (The Transsexual Phenomenon) on the subject.

@@spinosa360 I understand that it's easy to pretend that problems don't exist when you're not personally affected by them, but that doesn't mean trans people are accepted. At all. I mean, just take a look at this video. It has nearly a 50% like ratio, and most of the comments are hidden because they're likely hateful. Trans people don't even have equal rights in the US, and that's by far the best place they have. I won't deny that progress is being made, but we're still nowhere near true acceptance.

I think so too. I would also like to know more about those cases, where people underwent the whole surgical and hormone treatment procedure and had major problems afterwards.
The public discussion should cover those aspects as well, people who like to do it should be able to make a real educated decision.

For transgender people, I neither advocate nor oppose, but we must maintain respect.
So lets respect fact that you are born either male or female and you cant change that and you should respect others by not spreading lies.

And now some people wants that credit by labeling them self as Trans. Trans people go trough emotional and physical issue just because there are who they are. Make up, skirts don't make you Trans and it's not a fasion statement. Iam a transwoman since I was 19 years old. Back in 1990 I know. But the people want to learn from kids, and others that just identify witouht any life experience. Stop labeling as what your not.
