Great video! I take care of my 92-year-old mother and I have seen what lack of strength and fear of falling has done to her. I am determined to not let it happen to me. So I do balancing exercises all the time but these will help me to increase my balance even more.

Balance is such a key component of one’s health! It often gets neglected because many people JUST focus on strength. Great video and I love the analogy about the tree trunks!

It stinks that most classes and programs overlook this important aspect of physical fitness. I always include it in my workouts.

I read an article in the AARP paper that 40% of falls are from wearing bi-focal glasses, that they walk with the head up and look down with their eyes through the close-up part of the glasses and don't see the steps or trip on something in the walkway. AARP recommendation is to get single vision for distance and one for reading, or IF you have bifocals to walk with your head down going down stairs. So falls can be a combination of weak legs and missing something in the way

The content of this video is great. I have a hip replacement in my future but currently working with a PT. She assigned me a couple of these exercises but I haven’t been conscientious about doing them. Your progressions and explanations give me much more motivation and variety to work on my balance! I’ve subscribed. Thank you!

I will certainly try these - I've had balance issues since I broke my arm a year ago and remained sitting down for long periods gradually losing the strength in my legs. So will definitely give it a go - thanks.

Most elderly people have problems getting up off the floor. As a child you spend a lot of time on the floor, adults do not.
Doing yoga / stretching exercises on the floor can improve balance, mobility, flexibility and the ability to get up and down..
Just getting up and down to the floor in a controlled manner is difficult for many older adults.
Play with your children on the floor. Bend over, get down and pull weeds in your garden. Play with a pet on the floor.
The more effort you make to work on balance and flexibility will pay dividends as you age.

Mobility matters. Bicycles matter. Electric busses matter. Electric trains matter.
Safe protected bike and bus lanes are necessary for efficient transport.
Children should be able to ride bicycles or take a bus to school safely.
Cities need to provide multiple options for transportation. Less cars, more buses, more bicycles. Staying active is key.
There is a climate crisis. We need to make walking, cycling, using escooters and taking a bus easier and the default option for most people.
Ebikes are brinigng many older adults back to cycling and the benefits of exercise.
