An aha moment in this video - keeping the knee pointed toward the little toe when going down stairs appears to alleviate all my pain! So simple, yet not taught in my pt sessions. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🎉❤

Fantastic! It's the little things. I had the same issue when I was dealing with a knee injury in the past. The knee pointing outward changed it for me, + that position activates and strengthens your hip muscles! so it's really a win-win! 😊

My co worker who was about 350 lbs had great difficulty getting up the stairs at work. She was literally dragging her weight up the stairs. I asked her if she can walk on her tippy toes and she said yes and I told her to try that as it uses different muscles. She came to me a few days later with tears in her eyes and she said "You have given me a new lease on life". Since then she has lost all the weight and is enjoying her new found freedom.

Good to see Vazir's exercises to strengthen the muscles used in climbing stairs. My approach, however was different. I am 83, so I have had some proof that my ideas from 55 years ago were good. In my late 20's I was a student at a college in Boston where most of the buildings were 4 or 5 stories high with no elevators and initially my knees were painful and hurt each and every time I went for classes. But about 18 months later that pain was gone. Logically, I concluded that climbing stairs was what I needed.
So when some years later I decided to build a house for my retirement I had a house with 4 levels designed for me. 29 steps total. My architect, my relatives and all of my neighbors expressed consternation at what they saw as my building punishment for my retirement.
This experiment worked quite well for me and for my wife. The only time we have difficulty with my stairs is after we spent a couple weeks vacationing at ground level and never climbing when away from home. Practice what you need for later. not just for today.

Many of the houses in the city of Angouleme where I now live on the ramparts have 4 stories and down the road from us a lady remained at home climbing these steps until 94 years old. I guess this proves the point you have been making perfectly.

I found this video at just the right time. I'm 73, live in New York City and there are a lot of stairs that need to be navigated in order to get around. Subway stairs are the most problematic because they're steep, long, and made out of concrete. Believe it or not, climbing the stairs isn't nearly as difficult as going down the stairs, and I'm going to faithfully do these exercises. Thank you so much for making videos like these.

My mom who was living with us, at 94 , had a 10 day hospital bout. She could only shuffle a few steps after that. But we had a 5 step front porch entrance. We daily went to parks, or a mall or visited friends and family. (She had oxygen and a walker)
Mom worked diligently for three months with chair exercises and going up and down on just one or two steps on our inside stairs. And she did it! She got down and up the front porch. She was exuberant! Mom had two more years of good life before her lungs gave out (emphysema)
She used to say, “ If only I hadn’t smoked!”
    Miss her a lot.

I am 67 and do 20 squats when I get out of bed and 20 before I go to bed. I don't have knee pain with stairs and my lower back pain is gone as well. This is because I have built strength in my legs which is the key. When I am in the down position with a squat I hold it for a bit to build flexibility in my knees and to make sure I'm not using the momentum of the "bounce" to drive myself back up. You have to do this every day to maintain strength. Strength also provides stability so falls are less likely. Like they say, use it or lose it.

Thank you for this advice ~~ I can do the same easily. I’m 72 and pretty active, still working weekends for the nursery I’m retired from. Problem is .. I did fall on my right side down on wood flooring…. Ouch! I did suffer a “ stable hip fracture “ & had a replacement 7 weeks later ~~ then, had the left hip replaced 4 months later omg! Ever since my thighs are much weaker darn it! Very noticeable to me.. hate it! It’s taken months of working on my feet all day 2 days a week & walking my dog & doing yard work to finally get some strength but still way different ~~ it makes me somewhat winded too… I’ve had that checked out with a pulmonologist & cardiologist but luckily.. I’m ok there except I DO have Afib that as it progresses can cause some out of breathness~~ wonderful~~ sheeesh! Thanks for reading my long reply… doing my squats before bed& tomorrow morning without fail.

I will be 74 in November. I had bilateral hip replacement maybe 10 years ago, and left knee replacement after that. These are some fair exercises. They wanted us doing "arm chair push ups: prior to both surgeries. I would suggest that for starting out. Nice that you put in a going down the stairs exercise. Can't say that I have ever heard of some one falling while going up the stairs, but many many cases of getting hurt going down the stairs. Totally different ways of loading and unloading your leg muscles.
Oh, best back relief exercise I have heard of, and especially for swimmers, "Suck in your gut like you are trying to put your belly button on your spine." from a coach at Speedo. So many hip and back problems come from slouching.

Recently, I was having shaky, weak legs and I couldn't figure out why until I found out that I had a B12 deficiency. I had no idea about B12, but I learned that you get most of the B Vitamins in food, but B12 comes from meat and dairy products which I am always trying to eat less of. I also learned that this deficiency usually happens in older people, and I will celebrate my 77th birthday in October, so I guess I was a prime candidate. I am taking a B12 tablet (1000 units) and I just had my first of four B12 shots, and I am doing much better.

🎁THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "the last age brought by Christ to purify man with His Word"
(In the future, whether you will be blessed or cursed will be decided based on your actions and behavior today. If God will make you perfect, it will be right now, at this time; there will be no other opportunity in the future. In the future, if any trials befall you, any events take place, or any calamities befall you, God wants to make you perfect; this is a certain and indisputable fact. Almost no one from past generations has experienced this; even in the time of Jesus the revelations of today did not exist. The words spoken to you, what you understand, and things you experience have all reached a new peak. You do not go away in the midst of trials and chastisements, and this is enough to prove that God's work has reached unprecedented glory. So, it is appropriate that each of you do your best and do not limit your efforts so that God can make you perfect. During these times you should not pay attention to negative things. When you manage things, do so with a heart that seeks, and caresses, a heart that longs for God. For example, your older brothers and sisters have religious beliefs, but you can pray, submit, eat and drink the word of God, and sing hymns.... It means whatever you can do, whatever role you can play, put your all into it with all the energy you can muster. Then when you can understand the truth and enter into the reality of God's word, you have been made perfect by God.)
      Almighty God said
In the future, whether you will be blessed or cursed will be decided based on your actions and behavior today. If God will make you perfect, that is certainly now, at this time; there won't be another chance in the future. Even now, God really wants to make you perfect, and this is not a way of speaking. In the future, if any trials befall you, any events take place, or any calamities befall you, God wants to make you perfect; this is a certain and indisputable fact. From where can it be seen?
This is seen in the fact that the word of God, in all ages and generations, has never reached such a high peak as it is today. It has entered into the highest scope, and the work of the Holy Spirit in all mankind today has never happened before. Almost no one from past generations has experienced this; even in the time of Jesus the revelations of today did not exist. The words spoken to you, what you understand, and things you experience have all reached a new peak. 🔴
You do NOT leave the midst of TRIALS and PUSHING, and this is enough to prove that God's work has reached beyond what man can do, nor is it something that man maintains; but rather it is the work of God Himself. So, from the many facts of God's work, it can be seen that God wants to make man perfect, and He can certainly make you perfect. If you can see this, if you can have this new discovery, you will not wait for the second coming of Jesus; instead, you will let God make you perfect in the present time. So, it is appropriate that each of you do your best and do not limit your efforts so that God can make you perfect. 🙏
During these TIMES NEGATIVE THINGS should NOT be ignored. First, put aside and IGNORE ANYTHING that makes you feel negative. 🔴
When you MANAGE things--things, DO so WITH a HEART that SEARCHES and caresses, a HEART SUBJECTING to GOD. Whenever you discover a weakness within yourself but do not submit to its control and do the duty you are supposed to do, it is a positive step forward. For example, your older brothers and sisters have religious beliefs, but you can pray, submit, eat and drink the word of God, and sing hymns.... It means whatever you are capable of doing, whatever role you are capable of performing, put your all--everything into it with ALL THE STRENGTH YOU CAN MUSTER.🙏
DO NOT WAIT idly. GIVING--PLEASE GOD in DOING your DUTY is the first STEP. Then when you can understand the truth and ENTER into the REALITY of the WORD of GOD, you are MADE PERFECT by GOD. 🙏

So glad I found you! I am 68, prone to falls, stairs are so hard for me (bad knees, back, and hips) and just diagnosed with the beginning stages of hip degeneration. If I squat down, no way I am getting back up. I always had strong legs until I got bursitis and sciatica several years ago in my left hip. Walking became so painful. I am really looking forward to seeing more of you! Thank you so much for sharing. 🙂

5 1/2 weeks ago I have pelvic floor surgery. The doctor said don't do exercise but do walk. So I have been doing a lot of walking and an couple weeks ago I decided to start walking backward a little and walk backward up the small hill of dirt left over from building our house many years ago. I can sure feel it and I know I am building muscle in my knees, upper and lower legs and butt. These walks will be a part of my daily do from now on. Thanks for these ideas.

That's really good for the brain too. Our brains are used to the same repetitive methods, like when you come down stairs & always go right. When you start going left, your brain "wakes up" & that's good.😊

@@MyOver50 Yeah, what I do is go one direction on the track then turn and go the other direction.

I’m 82 and taking a trip in a few weeks that requires quite a bit of walking. I was a tap dancer for 12 years and stopped in February. I’m totally surprised how quickly my balance and leg strength deteriorated. I’m starting these exercises tomorrow. Thanks so much.

I am only 46 and started having knee pain and trouble walking stairs, though I am an active person. I will do these exercises. Thanks a ton to you 😊😊
