Hey Guys! Glad this video has been blowing up the way it has been for the past month! Be sure to also check out the in depth analysis and overview I did on this lost ride and it’s full history! It also features additional and far better footage I found but did not use in this video, I have linked it in this comment and in the end card of this video for those interested in a more deep dive into this strange and unique coaster!

I felt like If arrow would have came up with this design much sooner they would have probably had more buyers. But by the time they are ready release the concept B&M we're already conquering the coaster industry.
Circa 1990, when this prototype was built, B&M built only 1 coaster, it was the fact their 1 confirmed buyer dropped out and bought a b&m instead that killed this. Though if this was built a year earlier I think there would have been time for more buyers before b&m truly began swarming the market in 1992 and beyond.
@@CoasterKey yeah Alton towers
If arrow made the experience smoother, then I bet parks would've loved it, but even just looking at the ride, it looks horribly janky and painful
@@jcspotter7322 but imagine it with todays tech? it would be very smooth.
@@xt3100you don't need this track configuration to rotate around the riders heart line. Arrow couldn't figure out how to bend standard track around a point 3 feet above the track itself. B&M did. That's why this concert was obsolete before it was built.
This was a type of coaster in RCT3.
Yeah, even seen some decent creations in the game made with this type. Imagine if no limits had it.
That's where I remember it from
Yeah! I built some of these when i played in RCT3
I wish they added this to Planet Coaster as well
@@eier5472 IK. Planet coaster is missing a lot of coaster types
DANG that looks smoooooooth! What an absolute crime to humanity that we didn't get these in parks, considering the beautiful graceful ride they would have given - so good in fact that even those with back and neck pain would be able to ride it!
Great video. I turn 51 on March 14,2021. My heartfelt thanks goes out to Ron Toomer and Arrow Dynamics for giving me amazing thrills throughout my childhood (Loch Ness Monster, Big Bad Wolf) just to name a few. RIP my friend you and your creations will always live on in my memories forever. Thanks for posting this.
Holy cow that track is huge! I wish I could ridden one of these, imagine how fun that would be
Yeah, though the restrains would have included a tight OTSR and a Lap Bar combined
This is such an interesting concept. It’s really unique.
@mixampo how? Lol we're looking at literally the only one
Intiminan in built something similar.
(Forgive me; I have no idea how to spell Intiminan.)
@@stillbuyvhs intamin
It’s wild to think that coaster companies back then didn’t know how to properly heartline their rides. Thus, we get shit like this lol
It's not that they didn't know how, it was nearly impossible with Arrow's manufacturing methods. They prioritized structural integrity over comfort in cases like heartlining
Thank you for uploading this. I adore ride and park history. It's very interesting but also kind of sad. I wonder what all those lost engineer dreams could have been if the companies they worked for didn't go under
Cool! I think you would love the video I did on the giant skyrocket.
God, am I glad that this (SW1/SW2) didn’t come to fruition. Especially seeing as what would replace it (SW3)
I really hope one of the current major Rollercoaster manufacturers can reimagine this concept with all the new tech we have to design and fabricate incredibly smooth roller coasters. Ron would be so proud to see it come to life.
Looks like Arrow took Togo's Ultra Twister and tried to improve it quite a bit by, for example, letting it turn ! If they came up with that during the 80's alongside Togo's Ultra Twisters it could've been popular !
Awesome to see the full video. Have only seen snippets. My favorite company ever just because it seems like such a wild west mindset. They literally built the entire amusement park industry from ground up essentially. Without their rides... maybe someone else would have filled the gap but without Arrow there wouldn't have been many amusement and theme parks around nowadays. Alongside Disney, who they worked with initially, few influenced industry to such a scale as Arrow and Ron Toomer and gang.
YO TRUUUE!
I remember this being a coaster type in RCT3...and this is the first real footage I've seen of it!
If you mean the heartline, that was based on the japanese Togo Ultra Twister
You're getting my sub just because you made me cry at the end man! lol
Really drove home the sadness factor there. Thanks for posting this. Really. I appreciate it.
Anytime man. Thanks so much for the sub
Iconic
I honestly wish arrow made more of these pipeline coasters.it is such a shame that this model never came to be.
My lord! I’m so happy I got to see this, thanks!!! Arrow at work!
Yup! They were a very innovative manufacturer. I don’t blame the all the simps they have even though they have been gone for 20 years.
@@CoasterKey I haven’t ridden many Arrows, but they are hit or miss. For the ones I like, Adventure Express still rocks (special to me), Vortex (looper) was fun, and Magnum is my second favorite at CP, which is my home park. Magnum’s above Maverick and below SV. Can’t wait to ride X2 whenever I get the chance!
@@coasterboy6896 You really need to ride Eejanaika then.. That's where it's really at.
some portions look super smooth while others look like the worst of SLC.
It really does look like something out of Rollercoaster Tycoon
I love your slogan
“Unlock the Thrills”
I kind of think it’s a little cringy
No it’s really cool actually. idk anyone who has slogans like these
I grew up near the Arrow yard in Mountain View CA
interesting concept but it looked really rough and this at the time that B&M got praised for their smooth rollercoasters.
Such a rare credit😳
This was just an even jankier version of the Togo Ultra Twister, which had already been around for ages, there was even one in the US in '86. It is funmy hearing him tall about an immelmann before they existed though but also very stupid hearing him say you can't do them with normal track...
really a shame this never worked out. but MY GOD that looks janky
Yeah true
My introduction to the prototype was on America's Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills in 3-D during the first segment with Ron Toomer.
You have your 190th subscriber. This video was so good!
Thank you so much! I can’t even make a 200 sub special because I’ll hit that milestone before I even release the video I’m working on right now!
7:26 ACE described as "An off-beat group". lol
Now thats a rare cred!
Great channel! Just subbed to you!!! Keep up the good work!
I’m glad your looking at the rest of my content and enjoying it! May I recommend the cop car chase, shuttle loop, giant skyrocket, and full story behind the pipeline coaster videos
It would be amazing to see this idea modernized and become a reality. I think it would be a fantastic ride if done properly
I used to live near Freeport Center in Clearfield Utah where this test coaster was constructed. I could watch test runs from my front porch. Such a shame it never came to be.
WOW. That’s interesting! What else did you see?
@@CoasterKey
Did get to watch the coaster being constructed, but never got to see a test run up close. I believe the company that was there moved to another city in Utah, but it has been a long time.
if u think about it, pretty much every looping coaster today would feel like a pipeline coaster cuz they now all use the heartline
Yeah, but it would have it’s own distinct feeling and sensations with more unique maneuvers which would be harder to do on other rides. It would feel like a more janky ultra twister and people don’t really ignore ultra twisters. They still are considered unique and interesting rides by many people today.
@@CoasterKey i think the reason ppl call the ultra twisters unique and interesting is just cuz of the visual of the track rotating around u
@@CoasterKey unsubscribe from sentinel coasters and attractions and stay away from him on all platforms, I’m just warning u as I saw u comment on his channel, he will try to take advantage of u in many cruel and disgusting ways, I’m just warning u, the more we spread the word the more ppl will cut ties with him and he can’t harm anyone else
@@MillenniumForceMan oh don’t worry.. I wish I could pm you on this but because RUclips ended pms I’ll just be open. Don’t read the account provided by the guy who was one of his victims made. @@CoasterKey ok
looks insane and intense
This would be absolutely sick
That's soo cool...
Riding Viper at Six Flags Great Adventure only once. It was a really odd experience. This is a model of roller coaster that COULD be brought back if the layout has much smoother transitions. It's the same with suspended roller coasters. They should be brought back as well but welp... ~gestures~ No one is paying me to design them.
What an awesome looking idea! Shame it never came to parks. Looks like an arrow version of the Togo ultra twister tbh
I think it operated in somewhere in Iraq I thought or that area...I came across a video on it
I'm shocked nobody has went back and revisited this it seems like it was a very sound Idea.
Because its useless. It was a concept trying to reduce the shakiness that cam from an abscence of twisting the track around the heartline. It would have made sense in the past but nowadays nearly everycoaster is designed with a heartline.
There was one of these actually built. It used to live in South Korea, before being moved to Kuwait, before being torn down. I don't think Arrow produced it, but I SAW it in Kuwait - it was never open during the three years I was there. It was made by Giovanola.
That was an intamin model. Not an arrow. There’s a difference. No arrow model was ever built. But intamin made 1 and Togo made the ultra twisters. Also, glad you could see such a rare coaster! When I say this was never built I mean the arrow model, not other companies versions
It looks like something you can find in Planet Coaster
I remember this...lol yeah cool concept but toga had a similar kind...fun to see this again
This was supposed to go to Alton Towers...but after riding John Wardley said it was super boring lol
This is from a very old episode of National Geographic from the early 90’s. Also back when from Paul Ruben and Randy Geisler ran ACE.
Yeah, I’ve heard those guys ran it well. They must have been great if they were able to test arrow prototypes
@@CoasterKey Oh yes absolutely this was around the same time I joined ACE. If wasn’t for these guy’s you wouldn’t have a coaster studios and ect.
@@darrylellis9171 Really? Why so?
@@CoasterKey Because these guy’s stated it all its just like anything else they made a club for us coaster geeks to travel the country before social media ever existed. There the founding fathers of ACE everything you see today was definitely inspired by them.
@@darrylellis9171 I see, they started the coaster community and planted the seeds of what we have today as more and more people joined and built the community until social media and the internet made it really explode.
Hey this coaster type exists in RCT3!
Fabulous vid. New sub here 👍🎢
I like how Randy Geisler said that it was great and that it would be the next generation of rollercoasters but then John Wardley rode it and said it was slow and boring. Because of this he ended up designing Nemesis for Alton Towers and that was pretty much it for the arrow pipeline.
Yeah, Since there we’re no other buyers.Though I did hear it was popular with most people so why did HE in particular have such a negative opinion of it?
@@CoasterKey this is what John Wardley said in an interview: “It was a very cumbersome device, slow and rather boring. Also, the riders’ views were contained to a large extent within the enclosed pipe structure, making the effect of travelling through the external environment almost irrelevant.”
Alton towers has a lot of unique terrain features and John wanted to use it to its advantage which is why he said about the external environment.
@@ski_feet101 Hmm... I see.
This is made in RCT3
Why not S&S rebulit pipelines in 2020's?
Pardon me Coaster Key, but what does this 'heartlining' term I see bandied about in several comments here mean? I'm afraid I'm out of the loop on this . . . : )
literally the historical precedent of the Axis rollercoaster.
not really, no.
"From Jakarta to Sandusky, Ohio" roller coasters, in Sandusky, Ohio? I'm shocked.
Where my RCT3 homies at?
All over this comment section apparently
Was Alton towers the customer? This was supposed to go where Nemesis is now but John Wardley rode it and hated it ans so Nemesis was born 👌🏼🧱👍🏼
Exactly
@@CoasterKey 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
Man, that looks like Vekoma SLC levels of pain. Thank god they went for Nemmy instead.
Yeah, Nemmy was better, especially considering how it impacted Alton towers.
What year was this?
The only reason anyone has ever heard of these is because we used make 300 ft tall versions of them in RCT3 for no reason.
Thank god this isn't where nemesis is 😂
It never worked out for them.
Hey Look! It’s S.W 1/2!
Thank GOD that they didn’t build this, and built Nemesis instead.
You can see why Wardley turned it down after riding it - it slows down massively as it goes around the track, just as he said.
I rather have this then Nemesis
while arrow could make this happen fully. togo copied arrow
I guarantee Ron tumor didn't convert to cad because he didn't want to be phased out. He wanted to keep designing the coasters. You switch to computers he becomes obsolete.
And then people discovered heart lining and this was totally obsolete
Pretty much.
It's from intamin (edit sorry I was wrong it was a false claim from an other video)
I assume you are talking about that one intamin pipeline which operated at a mall in South Korea?
@@CoasterKey I think yes
@@CoasterKey but had the same video so that's what confused me
@@tm-py6qj Oh ok
This looks so rough
Lmao
As much as I make fun of Arrow for just how crap almost everything they have ever made is, I have to hand it to them for the 4th dimension, their suspended coasters and their shuttle loops.. Considering X2 is in my top 10 coasters of all time worldwide, and many other Arrows are last, it's interesting to me that a company provided me with both one of my favourite coasters ever, and my most hated of all time. I love the arrow shuttle loops way more than the Schwarzkopf ones cause of the insane airtime. However, I hate every arrow multi looper in existence and every arrow hyper in existence (and yes that includes Magnum although it IS the best of a shitty bunch), and this comprises most of their coasters. I would give almost anything to go back in time and ride the suspended coaster in Everland though......!!!!
Yeah getting Eagles fortress back would be nice
Umm they put people on it a little quick
Can't imagine how painful this would be. Arrow was always Arrow.
The transition looks very janky, even compared to frikin Togo Ultratwister
think this needed some tweaking, but anyone who truly believes all arrows were so rough and painful either only rode a few olders or non-maintained ones or are pansies who can only handle B&M's while overrating RMC's and giving intamin free passes.
@@oneandonlysound3453 It should've been better ofc. Even Togo itself can make smooth half (or full) pipe coaster
