      “Chaos Games” Is what you’re referring to. The sign for it was removed in 1994 but the arcade closed with the park and the coaster. Though it’s kind of odd to place an arcade right by something like chaos,

    Chaos has always been one of my favorite "coasters" of all time. We would ride it 15 or more times back to back. It certainly was not intense but there was just something about the ride that made it so unique. I actually felt the ride to be relaxing and a great sensory experience. RIP Chaos. Perhaps it's worth a moment to check out Revolution's 35th anniversary weekend we celebrated last month. During this weekend, 4 different soundtracks, and a combination of different historic projections used in Revolution, temporarily played in the ride again. It might be cool for checking out the history of Chaos' sister coaster :)
    Not to mention that, in the winter of 2023-2024, Revolution got a massive overhaul, focusing especially on bringing the theming back to it's original glory, and maintaining the coaster cart. Because of this, Revolution is here to stay for many years to come! (There's even some references to CHAOS now)

  • @2inpress232
    @2inpress232 2 года назад +5

    Update on the version at bobbejaanland:
    The ride has been split in half, half of the seats being used to use it as a VR experience, which workes suprisingly well, seeing that it's only left turns. This does really slow down the operations, having to make sure all the VR headsets are put on correctly.
    The second (and more saddening part) is that because the ride now utilises VR, the park doesn't care to still give an enjoyable experience to the other half of the riders, the ones without a VR headset. The ride basically got stripped of all it's special effects: the animation doesn't play, not at the bottom, nor at the top. Smoke effects? forget it. TL lights at the side? It looks more like the emergency lights from the looks of it.
    It's sad to see, but the coaster as we knew it is basically not functionning anymore. So if you want to relive Chaos like it was back in the early 90's, i'm afraid you're about half a decade too late.

    Its funny to hear about the changes because I was there when these changes were made. A guy named Bob who ran the ride was celebrating his birthday and he handed out party favors to the riders. They threw the party favors at the cameras and screens in the ride cause millions of dollars in damage so the screens never worked again. This is why they added the changes to the ride and fun fact: Bob was never fired for this. LOL I worked at Opryland from 88 to 93 and again in 95.

    Back in the day, there used to be a video here on RUclips that had POV recordings of both ride screens, I believe something titled along the lines of, "Revolution Both Films." The video was in 4:3, with both recordings stretched and stacked vertically, but also in sync.
    Of course, I went to go find it again but the video is gone. Gone just like another video I swear also existed, a compilation by Revolution Fans that featured that same recording. You can never win...
    Jeroen Kanters, the person who made those awesome 3D recreations, said he acquired both screen films by asking Bobbejaanland themselves. So there's that.

    Coming back to this video a year later, it's funny how Chaos may have not taken off in terms of this model, but this is obviously the spiritual predecessor to very successful coasters today such as The Rock and Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios, Escape from Gringot's at Universal Studios, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot. It was an attempt at an immersive coaster experience, just ahead of its time and in a park that ended up being managed by idiots just long enough to get the park killed for no good reason whatsoever.

    I had the luxury of ride both models; as an enthusiast I think it was a fine ride. Intensity is not my first objective I'm more of a historian than a thrill seeker and enjoy unique experiences experiences. Any park could have bought it and inserted their own IP. It's all all weather ride, that seats many people, re-ridable and attractive to the overall park guest that could be returned at a moments notice if a park marketed and cared enough to do so. Thanks for the video it is a ride worth remembering.

    Nashville native here.
    Opryland is "op" with a short o, not "oop"
    OG Nashvillians *hate* Gaylord for shutting down Opryland without warning and opening yet another mall---at the time Opry Mills opened, there were a total of NINE active malls in Nashville. That said, a new mall in that area would have been an *excellent* alternative to a theme park...in the 1970s or 1980s. By the time Opry Mills opened in 2000, brick-and-mortar stores were already starting to be usurped by online shopping. Once the Great Recession came along in 2007, the lesser performing malls of the city started folding up in short order.

  • @mario64remix
    @mario64remix 3 года назад +2

    Vekoma was on top of the game back then and Illusion is the best example of that.
    Always wondered why they had to take out the screens after just one year at Opry, while at Bobbejaanland they were able to keep them longer. It's too bad some folks had to ruin the fun for everyone else. Would love to a pic of the train nowadays, if it still exists (I only ever read of the train being offered for sale, not actually sold). It's definitely one of the most legendary / sought after coaster items in history.
    Also one correction, originally the ride featured a soundtrack produced by Elias Associates which synced with the film projections. Hoenig's Bones on the Beach wasn't added until 1990 (or possibly 1991), when the screens had already been removed. Bobbejaanland adopted an edited version of the soundtrack in 2004 (possibly to honor Chaos).

    • @CoasterKey
      @CoasterKey  3 года назад +1

      I know BJL had Bones on the beach in 1989, so thanks for the advice. I just assumed from my sources who said the soundtrack on chaos never changed and was produced by both Elias associates and hoeing working together. Again, at Opryland the screens were said to not work right very much at all, so that’s why both were removed instead of just the bottom at BJL. The sources I used never stated there was a soundtrack change thus the error. Sorry about that. I will issue a formal correction in the description.

    • @mario64remix
      @mario64remix 3 года назад

      @@CoasterKey Hmm interesting, what is that source? Someone once asked mr Hoenig if he knew his music was played on these coasters and he did not, so he couldn't have worked together with the original team. Both parks had the original / Elias music in 1989, also Bobbejaanland.

      @@CoasterKey There are multiple versions of the simulation by Jeroen Kanters. The upload called ''Revolution 3D - 1989 (originele muziek)'' contains the original music.
      I do generally trust the Access 2 Control website but I'm just not sure about this one. For one, the book ''Opryland USA (Images of Modern America)'' claims the music was changed to Bones in 1991 (although 1990 sounds more likely to me as it would have gone along with the removal of the screens). Furthermore, wouldn't it make sense for both coasters to use the specially made for the film soundtrack? Illusion featured an 16 channel audio system which obviously only a specially produced piece of audio could fully take advantage of. Would be a waste to just play an existing tune like Bones.

    I rode Chaos so much as a kid. It wasn't as fun when you could see what was going on in the later years though. Interesting to learn it was so rare. My mom and dad worked at Opryland before I was born and once my school choir did a Christmas show there. Local store sells items with the 1988 old park map on them so I have a few coasters with coasters on them. The mall kinda sucks. It's just a mall. They don't even have the Stingray petting pool like it did when it opened. Even more annoying the Mall isn't even over most of the park. Most of the park space is a parking lot that's hardly used. Part of some of the rides were still there for a while.
