  • Have you ever wondered what strange and lost roller coaster concepts and designs that never left the drawing board or were never built at any parks must have been like? Well, The Arrow Pipeline Coaster is a mysterious ride which never truly saw the light of being built at a park, though it made it far enough in development to have a full scale test version built in Utah. Why did it never open at any amusement park? What caused this ride to be forgotten? Is it better off that way? Let’s look into those questions today as we discuss and learn about the Pipeline Coaster!

    I wish they would’ve built at least one of those, even if it sucked it still looked really cool

    Great video. The pipeline coaster always fascinated me. The ultra twister was so well received I don't know why parks didn't want this. Also, that Mario 64 music is stuck in my head now lol

    I've been really enjoying your videos and how you have a few unique coaster 'video essays.' However, your voiceover needs some work. I'd recommend practicing your voiceovers a few times until it feels more natural for the video as well as getting/making a pop filter for your microphone

    This coaster was actually built and was about to operate. in Busan, Korea.But unfortunately, this coaster was built on the roof of a department store. And it caused severe vibration in the building. Eventually it ceased operation and was demolished.

    How many concepts were their from Arrow that never happened besides this and the Virginia Reel

    • @CoasterKey
      @CoasterKey  2 года назад +1

      A few, a second gen gen suspended coaster, the ARROWbatic coaster (A small scale invert which could be family or thrill oriented depending on the customer) and the Virginia Reel spinning coaster concept.

    A detail you missed: To put this into perspective mentioning years would be a good thing. Towards the end there is one mention regarding SW2, but that's about it.

    • @CoasterKey
      @CoasterKey  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, there’s very little info on SW2 and it’s very hard to get information. So that’s why it’s so unclear. In fact, the only reason I know the blueprints/sketches you see are most likely SW2 are simply due to the fact it is to big to fit SW1’s short ride length. Though I still see that I might seem confusing so I could have simplified more there. Live and learn I guess

      @@CoasterKey Thank's for the feedback. I think I didn't express what I meant properly: I mean the general timeline. When did Arrow start with this work, when was the prototype built, stuff like that. That would help set this into context, seeing that the first construction using the heart line was Shock Wave in Six Flags over Texas (1976) and even the modern construction method of the Raumkurve (as the Germans call it) was introduced in 1985 with Z-Force.

    • @CoasterKey
      @CoasterKey  3 года назад +1

      @@svenlakemeier Cool! The concept emerged sometime in the late 1980s from what i can tell and the Portotype was completed in 1990. It was demolished in the early to mid 90s (by 1995ish it was gone, but I have no idea when) SW1 was planned throughout 1990 and I think into 1991 (don’t quote me on that) and SW2 was planned through 1992 until it was scrapped for nemesis as 1993 came along. Heart lining was not fully “common” until after 1990 and B&M’s introduction which truly popularized the practice. As coasters using that design method skyrocketed in that decade from what I know

  • @markjensen7091
    @markjensen7091 3 года назад +1

    Hell, if they could have turned that prototype into a shuttle coaster, it would have been awesome. Then as more parks bought the shuttle design, they could have ramped up production towards more innovative full circuit designs. Oh what would have been...

    • @CoasterKey
      @CoasterKey  3 года назад +1

      Hmm... Like how premiere and intamin did with their LIM coasters?

    • @markjensen7091
      @markjensen7091 3 года назад +2

      @@CoasterKey Also IMO I think by not considering a fully enclosed canopy also was the failure. Why, because imagine taking this ride and putting a video screen on the canopy. Think a Star Tours esque or B2F esque roller coaster with a projected screen. The ride could have simulated being a fighter pilot doing acrobatic rolls etc... Also I agree with the Premiere/Intamin rides where they took a shuttle ride and then turned them into full circuit. Why scrap the technology, when you can find a different application of the research.

    • @CoasterKey
      @CoasterKey  3 года назад +2

      @@markjensen7091 It would be difficult to pull off, but it was done correctly it would be an awesome ride! Though full enclosure could also be unappealing.
