    I personally think the K1 is the best nature and landscape DSLR ever made, the sensor is absolutely incredible. It's the only full frame camera I still have and I will NEVER get rid of it. It's also the best built and most durable full frame camera I've ever had my hands on. Kind of a strange looking camera but it gets the job done. Some of the best photos I've ever taken with a digital camera popped out of the K1. I also have a Mark II version as a backup but the original K1 is the one I prefer to use all the time. My trio of lenses with the K1 I most often use are the 21mm, 43mm, and the 70-210 f4. The K1 Mark II is what I shoot all my M42 Takumar lenses with.

    K1iii will be exciting, but I see a K1iii monochrome in your future 😅.

    With all those super high MP count cameras we indeed have reached the point of diminishing returns. The size of the pixels on those high MP cameras is jus t too damn small to be of any real benefit. Ken Wheeler brought this up years ago when 24 MP was king. I believe that cameras maxed out image quality at 36 MP. Keep in mind that Nikon dialed it back to 20 MP for the D500 and D5 As for me my favorite cameras are the Pentax K5 and the Nikon D300. I have a bunch of other DSLRs that are 16 MP and 24 MP and to my old eyes the 12 and 16 MP cameras do a great job, not to mention the small file size makes editing a dream. I have pretty much watched all of your videos and it seems to me you were happier shooing with a K5 than anything you have bought since. Do your self a favor and pick up a K5 and have some fun. One last thing. Is Walla Walla the carpet capital of the world ? (Sorry, couldn't resist being punny).

      M4/3 pixel density equals to 80-100Mpix FF. And they have no problem to cover that with lenses. I added EM5III and 12-100/4 recently. That thing is perfectly fine right from F4. There is no zoom lens in Pentax portfolio close to that. Only Sigma 18-35/1.8 has similar output.
      24Mpix K3 has about same density as 60Mpix Sony A7R4/R5. Again, no issue. Just lenses capable of resolving that from corner to corner on that FF Sony are large heavy expensive beasts.

    Ahh the k1 received a cameo voice call out. Do you ever miss the k1 or k3 monochrome ?

    • @EdwardMartinsPhotography
      @EdwardMartinsPhotography  7 месяцев назад

      It's a tough one. The image quality of the K1 is better than any modern Sony or Nikon I have used. It is better than the Fuji's, smoother, more film like. But the Fuji video is just professional level. If I could figure out the video part of it I'd shoot the Pentax a lot more. The DJI pocket Osmo 3 seems to be doing a decent job of it. The K3 Monochrome is a harder sell. It is the nth degree of digital b&w but the K33 in general has a few things I don't like about it, and the IQ even in b&w from the K1 is very very good. The thing I use most when shooting in b&w is the 1:1 crop and the K33 doesn't have it. So it's just easier and cheaper to use the K1. The thing I like most about shooting with the K1 is how easy it is. It's a much less complicated camera than any of the mirrorless cameras.

      Thank you for the reply. I’ve had the k1 ii with the 43mm lens once before. I’ve missed it since I’ve let it go. It’s on sale now for 1600 thinking about getting that with the new 50mm classic 1.4 rainbow effect lens. I started with mirrorless but I always feel like something is missing with it. The engagement in picture taking is not the same. That 1:1 aspect ratio is a good call. It appears the k70 and kf don’t have that either. For video I’d just use my s5ii or downsize to a Nikon z30 again.

I'd probably just use a generic Arca plate off of Amazon for $15 if I couldn't find an L bracket that worked. Aftermarket support is a really good reason to Canon/Nikon Sony/Fuji! 🙂

    Good old Walla Walla Washington, the onion capital. My brother went to University there. I think the main reason for modern cameras' overcomplexity is video. Had we just kept the video camera and photo camera separate, there wouldn't have been a need. Strangely, there aren't that many cameras today that can really do both at the same time in an intuitive, high IQ way... probably because we can't shoot video with one eye and photos with the other. Humans are the problem.

    It's funny you say that, because I tend to turn all that off for my landscape images. I do find the K3M3 is good for sports - having face tracking on a DSLR is amazing in itself and I can get a lot of fast action shots which the K1MII struggles with.
    I would absolutely love to convert the K1MII to monochrome.
    I love how you can just talk to camera with an easy flow.

    • @EdwardMartinsPhotography
      @EdwardMartinsPhotography  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, the K3 Mark III is really good for the action stuff, and that's where the new tech shines. But for the artsy stuff, it really does get in the way a bit and as you say, it needs to be turned off. The K1 was the camera that needed the mono sensor, but whatever. The K1 Mark III should be very interesting!! If they could get a 45 mp sensor without the phase detect pixels polluting the output it would be really interesting.
      Interestingly, the older I get the harder the "easy flow" is to achieve. (I used to be better at it ten years ago... but then I used to be better at everything 10 years ago. But I guess it's better than the alternative, at least I'm still able to try.) Most of my videos are one take too. The gift of the gab I guess. 🙂 Thanks!

    I only just realised this myself about Fujifilm cameras the other day. I have or have had X-T1, X-T10,X-T20 and X-H1 cameras. I never got on with the last due to its ergonomics, even though it was gorgeously put together, sold it. The later cameras are just too full of stuff you have to dive into menus to sort through. Even changing something as simple as a film simulation now has extra pages for all these different sims and recipes. Most of which look plain ugly in my eyes. Sure they have more customisable function buttons but you have to remember which function you have assigned to which button or dial, and if you are not using those particular functions that often you can never remember which button or dial does what. Photographers are being encouraged by the latest tech to become camera operators, rather than artistic image makers IMO.
    The older sensors output, to my taste at least, also just look nicer than the newer ones. I prefer the images from my K5 over those of my K3 or KP, for instance. When I had them the images from my Nikon Df and D610 were gorgeous. Ditto those from my Canon 6D. Granted I really love the images I get from my K1, but I think that is more to the way it responds to my collection of K mount glass and Pentax colour science than the fact it has 36MP (using the old K manual lenses is also a joy on this camera). There is an English pro photographer, Martin Castain, who shoots a lot of landscape and portraits on older cameras and has done a series of videos about them and why he likes them.
    When it comes to mirrorless v DSLR, I would take my 6D or K1 any day over a FF mirrorless camera. There is just something so right about using an optical viewfinder. The real benefits of mirrorless is the ability to make a camera smaller and lighter and the ability to adapt almost all vintage lenses to your camera (the latter being a pure accident and not one of design I am sure), but most FF mirrorless cameras are almost as big as my 6D and when you add in the fact that all the lenses are as big if not bigger to accommodate the latest AF motors, I see no benefit at all. APSC and MFT formats are another matter. Here we see much smaller cameras available along with more compact lenses, although not as compact as they could be if they were screwdrive or manual focus. When camera manufacturers first went digital, they missed a couple of tricks. They could have introduced smaller flange distances for the APSC format and easily ditched the silly 3:2 ratio in favour of 4:3 or even an expanded 1:1 to make better use of the full image circle, but other than Olympus they didn't. Anyway, because the EVF image on my Fujiflm cameras is rather large when compared to my K5 for instance I tend to prefer using them over the K5 even though that camera has otherwise better ergonomics and colour reproduction IMO.

    With regard to your statement, that the k3III is more modern and has more "Ricoh DNA": Isn't that probably more a question of demand? I use to watch many videos on Pentax, as I really like the brand. Often enough I see comments like 'Pentax should go mirrorless like the other brands'. So the increased complexity of the newer cameras might more be seen as adaption. Don't get me wrong. I love the rather slim and easy menu of my K70. But it might be, that Ricoh needs to at least go a bit with the time ... even the 'wrong way'

I feel much more at ease on my Pentax MX, with which I have only a few parameters to adjust, 3 in fact, and I can devote more time to finding a position, a framing... I'm interested in the Pentax k-1

    I do not agree on K-3 Mk III being more ''modern''. I use it since preorder times and I got tongue point where I run Info menu when I want to engage PixelShift or WiFi. And main menu for formating SSD I think. Everything else I need is mechanical input. I can do most stuff without moving my eye from OVF or I use top LCD. It is more modern but in good way I think. Maybe K-1 is better, never used it but I do not think K-3 Mk III is more modern it bad meaning of the word.
    Everything else I agree. But then camera companies are like phone manufacturers. They need catchy numbers to sell things.

    Another curmudgeon! We are in a vicious cycle whereby the RUclips "reviewers" ding any camera which might be "lacking" a feature found in another camera, so manufacturers need to add those bells and whistles to stay on the good side of the reviewers. Do we really need a new model every year (other than to sell cameras)? Petap[xel does semi-annual rankings of manufacturers, and God help a company of it only has two new products this period. I wish someone would make a fairly basic camera with all the features built-in and the buyer could "upgrade" via a license to unlock the additional items they "need". This is now done for various video features on Panasonic cameras, so it is possible. Too much complexity out there.
