So many of you guys requested this one! I finally got around to it. By the way, have you seen the little series I did on the music of the God Serpents from MHRise? It's over here: ruclips.net/video/upxRbvxV1DM/видео.html
first theme: OH GOD IT'S FATALS second theme: It's a real challenge, but we can push through and win this! Proof of a Hero: WOOOOO, YEAH BABY, THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR, THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT WOOHOO
I've always loved Fatalis' theme, but I've never really been able to put it into words beside the obvious like "it's dramatic". Finally, something that explains why I love this song in all the ways I can't. Plus, I love how the first phase sounds desperate, dramatic, and chaotic, but the second phase sounds heroic and triumphant, eventually culminating in Proof of a Hero. It's like the soundtrack itself is cheering you on more and more the further into it you get.
Fatalis being an ordinary western dragon is important, in the middle ages dragons were associated with demons, the devil, the end of time and overall death destruction and devastation.
@@MansMan42069 unironically yeah, Fatalis looking so "normal" adds to his unsettling and out of place feel. It cleverly tells you that he's different. That animals fight to survive, Fatalis fights to exterminate.
I don't understand why everyone just say Fatalis is like generic dragon. He's got very long neck, slithers like a snake, and waddle on 2 feet. Definitely NOT like how a generic dragon is depicted. Safi'jiva is the one exactly like a traditional western dragon (except he doesn't breath fire... he shoots friking laser)
the main feeling I get from the different phases of fatalis is this: first phase is an absolute frenzy. it's a great tool to create shear panic in players who probably either feel confident in their ability to beat him or is scared of what is to come. combined with fatalis's insane timing/speed on his attacks throughout the fight creates this feeling of being outmatched and there is no backing out. it's when the player and character realizes it's going to be the fight of their lives. the switching of perspective of heroic and terror plays into the players small glimmer of hope that its beatable and the wall they still have climb to reach their goal. phase two is where the real learning phase kicks in. this is when you've basically seen most of his attacks and is just trying to learn the fight and timing. having a more heroic tone plays into that perfectly, because at this point you've been given positive feedback and that you're doing something to fatalis. it fills the player with hope. its isn't until phase 3 hits and the purple flame is revealed that the player is given terror again but this mostly shown in the visuals: the sheer bright purple flame contrasting the dark colors on fatalis himself as well as the environment of castle shrade coupled with how much damage it actually does to you indicated by either you fainting at full health or him doing 90% of your health in one hit. only time music plays into it is when u faint and the music cuts out or it plays the quest failed music which is full of sorrow. when you use the dragonator though, music becomes the forefront again playing the original proof of a hero score. the player is given so much hope from hearing that, meaning fatalis is at his wits end and the fight is almost over. I honestly cant remember what is playing during the fatalis death animation but any joy from that moment is through the visuals of fatalis flialing around before finally giving in and dieing. .......the player then has the biggest ego around until arch tempered velkana comes around to knock them down a peg.
@@spinomania1921 not saying at velkana was harder, just that she wasn't a pushover like frostfang was. when people first fought her they were arragont thinking she was going to be easy. turns out she wasn't exactly easy and people had to actually pay attention to the fight to beat her. by the time she was released everyone had the new op fatalis set on so everyone was very very arragont and over confident in their abilities. frostfang in comparison was laughably easy especially for a variant monster. of course it didnt help it was release way later in the dlc line up, the same dlc pack as alatreon which was right before fatalis. people fought frostfang solo and beat it first try with very little problems since while the sticky ice was different, was seen already on base velkana. at velkana was just the monster that slaps players in the face to make them pay attention to the fights again.
Yeah Fatalis and At Velkhana are great endgame battles, mostly for veterants because you can fill the thrill and energy of the figth again every time you figth them
The theme playing during Fatalis's death animation is the original victory theme way back in MH1 So Capcom is basically hitting long time hunters with a bullet train full of nostalgia
@@Scanvas3 and it really hits the nostalgia, my teammate and i were super hyped when we heard the proof of a hero theme and went completly silent when we heard the old Victory Theme.
Yes Davi Vasc...Proof of a Hero needs to be talk about...when you hit the Dragonator after the 2 intense phases you been hunting through and the original proof of a hero song starts playing; its like the music is encouraging you, telling you "you are close, dont give up". 20mins of intense concentration with problably little healing and 2 faints already in, Proof of a Hero kicks in and giving you that extra boost of energy and finally you giving the killing blow...its probably one of the biggest shot of Dopamine someone could get.
This!!! Couldn't have said it better myself. Always loved fatalis and the lore surrounding it since mh inception as well as it's ost throughout the yrs. Easily my most fav mon in the entire mh series.
Proof of a hero playing puts the buffs from the hunting horn in your party to shame, it just enhances your focus so much that you are hitting and dodging more consistently. It is like being buffed by 20 HH users at once. Edit: Also on that Time has run out bit, bringing back the horrors of solo'ing him, like 30 attempts with quest failed due to timer.
Can confirm about the effect Proof of a Hero has. I soloed the Gogmazios urgent quest back in MH4U and when proof of a hero played, I did not hold back (hell I didn’t even use potions cuz I was so focused on slaying gogmazios)
Yeah man. When proof of a hero starts playing it makes me feel like "You're almost there! the home stretch" type of feeling. Aw man it makes my heart race
Imagine fighting this godlike creature with the extremely wonky controls of classic MH yet it's still a fan favorite due to the experience outside of the gameplay aspect.
The two measures of 6/4 followed by 4/4 are really special to me because it's a clear throwback to the Verdant Hills battle music. That chaotic nature is probably there less for the sake of Fatalis, and more to capture the intensity of fighting your first 'big monster' - even if it was probably just a Yian Kut-Ku. I really like this, though, because to me it seems to represent how it all comes full circle and how Fatalis represents a return to chaos and the unknown. It seems silly to compare Fatalis to something like a Yian Kut-Ku or a Rathian, but by the time you reach Fatalis it's safe to say you're a top class hunter and you (or your character) are starting to come to grips with the world and the nuance of hunting. Then, you're confronted by this beast of mythical proportions that seems to throw all of that out the window. Just as you become comfortable with your role in the food chain, there are suddenly stakes again. I feel like that Verdant Hills battle theme motif exists in Fatalis' own score to make the hunter reflect on how far they've come but also to recapture that sense of wonder and unfamiliarity right when you were just starting to think you've finally come to grips with everything this world has to offer. It's not that the chaos doesn't fit Fatalis, because of course it does, but I think it represents way more than that. Also, I never noticed the Kokoto homage and I'm super glad you pointed that out. I swear this theme just grows on me more and more every time I hear it.
I love how fatalis theme was a more aggressive remix of rathalos' theme (forest and hills/verdant hills) and íts armor was a black version of rathalos' armor with some changes. The last/secret boss of the game sharing things with the flagship monster
What a fantasic way to put that, the point of how Fatalis's theme is the Verdant Hills/Rathalos theme and what it symbolizes, I mean. I'd like to think I'm normally pretty good at catching stuff like that, but this one completely flew over my head.
I really love Fatalis' Iceborne theme!! Like you pointed out it has so many layers and it's both foreboding and heroic alternately/simultaneously. It's really such an amazing piece of music and I love how you illustrated how much it pays homage to the earlier games of the series and even references World's musical themes. I didn't hear those before but now I do and it makes me love this theme even more! :)
I don't think I'll ever forget finally beating Fatalis in Iceborne. World was my first ever MH Game and it really felt like I was clawing my way to the pinnacle of Hunting. When the dragonator slammed and proof of a hero started? I felt so powerful it was amazing. It gave me such a gaming high that idk if I Can properly describe it.
Fatalis is also nostalgia incarnate. Hearing Fatalis' theme brings back nearly 20 years of memories from an ever growing ever evolving game. I tear up everytime I hear this theme because of how epic both the monster and theme is.
This theme give me chills. And your break down of the key pieces of the price makes me enjoy it that much more. World was my first MH game, but it rests within my list of personal favorites. The hours of enjoyment, and breathlessness from amazing moments like this fight... It blows me away to think about how much amazing talent went into making this masterpiece of a game. Thanks for the videos Mr. Davi! Looking forward to the next as always.
Im so glad you did this . This is one of the best fights with one of the best themes in all of Monster Hunter . Your theme analysis sort of videos are top notch . I havent found a single person who does those kind of videos better than you , so keep it up man :)
This seriously makes me appreciate the experience Capcom crafted so much more. There is so much thought put into the music: relief and tension; heroism and destruction. Awesome coverage of it!
they did this so much justice and it makes me so excited for whatever they bring next! that high piano melody at 13:43 is incredible and makes you feel so heroic. great breakdown as always!
I used to be rather dismissive of these "professionals react to X" videos. but I really enjoyed this one! I always appreciated the BGM during the Fatalis hunt, but I couldn't put my fingers on why. Having someone else explain and elaborate on it on such a level makes me appreciate the music in these cinematic moments even more.
This is me just speculating, but I think the "festive" part that you pointed out in the 2nd phase might be a kind of echo of the fallen Kingdom of Schrade. It sounds very similar to medieval style festival music. Considering the fact that Schrade was a medieval style kingdom (with a castle and everything) it would probably be the type of music that they would have listened to. This festive music coming back along with the heroic elements of World's theme and the brass instruments might be trying to communicate that the Hunter is in a way avenging those who fell to Fatalis way back when. If you want to get really poetic, it's almost like they're cheering us on.
This take holds more when you remember the cutsceness prior to this was about the hunters who fell if I recall, even down to a line saying "we owe it to them, lets make their sacrifice count" I think when the dragonator is found?
Was really looking forward to you talking about Fatalis theme. I was not disappointed. Such an epic theme that really makes you shudder in the presence of the god of all monsters!
Fatalis hands down is the best monster in whole MHW, from music, to his design, to the map (Castle Schrade ruins still terrifies me) to the fight itself. Capcom did an astounding job of depicting him as the ultimate legend.
That part at 12:55 always hypes me up. Yoi truly nailed with that of the festive feeling. The entire orchestra and voices do sound like an anthem of celebration.(also, is nobody gonna talk about that beautiful piano slide at 13:44?
My favourite part has to be the references to Driven By the Stars; all throughout World, they focus a lot on brass in the music and to me it feels like that first play of the reference in brass is the Hunter and all the people still behind you, those yet to come, and those who've sadly left the fight rallying to end this fight, but it repeats a second time in choir, the representation of danger in World, and feels just slightly disturbed (though I can't place why) which I see as Fatalis scoffing at our arrogance and mocking us with a rally of his own
Whenever you do these MHW:I melody reactions/breakdowns,I have the urge to go back home. I love world's music, and it makes me want to come back and play it every day and listen to your take on the monsters themes
I love the reference to Kokoto Village theme so much. By incorporating the first game's village theme into this one, it not only sparks nostalgic familiarity in veteran hunters (only for that nostalgia to be cut off by tense chords), it also metaphorically represents just how far the series has come since the very first village theme, and incidentally how old Fatalis itself is. Genius composing
The fatalis theme is so powerful and your explanation really is interesting. For me the start always felt almost scary and full of despair with the disturbing kokoto theme, it's like fatalis saying "That happy memory of yours of kokoto, i took it down and you're next". It almost brought up a feeling of loss, as if Kokoto was gone. And once we get to the theme of astera's theme it's more heroic and determined, and almost as if we're still determined to protect astera and seliana so it won't end up like kokoto. Might sound dumb :c
This is my favorite score in any piece of media ever. In such a point in time where electronic music is the king, being affordable and modern, catching the attention of such a wide audience with just a few notes, would easily overshadow the sounds of the past, where scores would be too difficult, unfitting, or simply impossible to include in to one's media nowadays. Even though it is such a difficult inclusion in to something like a video game, requiring so much direction and planning.. Monster Hunter did it anyways, and excelled. Every single aspect about Fatalis is more than an experience even by themselves.
I can't say this enough, I LOVE that you do this and make us fans realize things we didn't notice before making Monster Hunter even more enjoyable and more loved knowing how in depth they work on everything even down to the songs.
@@DaviVasc It's truly a wonderful thing to get these kind of experiences. After so long I'm curious, can you do a coverage on Lagiacrus's theme? Not only is he my favorite monster in the whole series but Tri/MH3 is my overall favorite MH game in addition to you loving and playing MH3U. Thinking about that I'm kinda surprised he hasn't been covered already.
This video just screams the genius of the Fatalis theme composer. I never knew the Kokoto village theme was in it, but after you mentioned it I was paying way closer attention and picked up the World theme immediately. All these different themes are so beautifully and seemlessly weaved together. If nothing else, this theme is a love letter to those of us who first fought Fatalis in Kokoto. It describes the journey we've been on so well. Also, let us not ignore that phase three is when Fatalis pops his head up and says "wait, why do I hear boss music?"
I love this theme sooo much! I'm so glad you did a reaction to this one. Being able to see the storytelling through the eyes of a composer really brings a deeper level to it. Great stuff!
Great analysis as always! Love your explanations. I love this theme because of Kokoto village theme reference. I think Fatalis theme for World version is filled with MH history. Oh, I can hear Iceborne main theme in this theme and I’m not sure, but toward the end of the theme, I can hear Lao-Shan Lung theme… Proof of a Hero, maybe? I feel like playing MHW again. Thank you for this amazing video, Davi!!
Your breakdown has made me love fatalis theme even more. The first phase of the song feels like it's the end of humanity, like extinction is upon the human race, while the second phase feels like humanity's last final stand against the creature that is about to bring extinction to them. It's so intense. I love it.
I just found your channel a few minutes ago through my suggestions and so far I’ve only watched 3 videos (all Monster Hunter: Shara Ishvalda, this one, and Proof of a Hero). I’m working through them and will definitely be watching more for sure!
I always felt that when a player character fights a Fatalis, they go from a hunter to a hero, and it's interesting how the music makes the player feel more heroic
I've always viewed Fatalis's fight themes like this - Phase 1's theme sets up Fatalis as this unnatural occurrence, a singular entity with a single-minded goal: the destruction of humanity and everything that we stand for. It's why it feels so off putting, but so good at the same time. Phase 2's theme, while sounding more heroic, is also us, the hunters, literally fighting for our lives as this living myth is trying to eradicate us with extreme prejudice. The final phase theme, Proof of a Hero, sets the theme of our hunters having faced against our very extinction and come out as triumphant victors, the last ones standing. (But, as we all know, Fatalis will ALWAYS come back, because his very being can regenerate from the smallest pieces of himself, consuming the hunters who wear him. This essential immortality that the Fatalis species seem to have, and it's raw, destructive power, is what makes this beast seem so unnatural to us.) Overall, Fatalis is my all time favorite monster, and it's family of Crimson and White Fatalis have equally as pleasing themes. I'm super happy they added him to Iceborne to end the game with a bang! :D
Hi, I just stumbled upon your channel a few days ago while searching for MHW themes. Really liked your interpretation of this soundtrack, and all the references from past MH franchise, as well as piece by piece analysis with music theory terms. Your method of showing chords, describing 'why they sound off', and the transition from one tone to another greatly helped me understand the intent of the composer. Kudos on your detailed yet easy explanation. After watching this video, I came to appreciate this theme more. I knew this music was all about giving terror and a sense of impending doom in your head (because, that's what Fatalis does), but the Kokoto Village reference was really something. MHW is my first game for this franchise, so I never knew about the theme's connection to the very first game of the series. And this was the final boss's music of the latest game (by the time this music was out). That... speaks a lot. Small bragging time: Enjoying this music led me to want to tackle one of my unfinished business with the Fatalis: the solo run. I did it!!! If it weren’t for this fantastic video and the inspiration it gave me, I wouldn’t have dreamed it in another 400+ playtime.
Fatalis' theme goes pretty hard makes me wanna fight him whenever I get online lmao But seeing a breakdown like this makes me love the theme even more I really love Monster Hunter And I really loved World so to hear one of my favorite themes broken down like this is awesome
I love love looove Fatalis‘s theme so much. All the little nuances, the callbacks to earlier themes in World make it so clear that this is it, the final boss, the end game. Also, one other thing I noticed in there was bits of Zorah Magdaros‘ theme especially in the brassy bits. Always gave me a Siege quest vibe until I looked it up. My absolute favorite bit is the uplifting strings part in phase 2. It‘s just so good! Thank you for these analysis videos, they just help me appreciate the beauty of MH music even more! I would love it if you could do Alatreon as well (it‘s one of my absolute favorites in Iceborne and such and interesting mix of contrasting tempos and instruments) and Magnamalo.
I love that the song itself represents the climactic battle between man and a draconic mass extinction event. In equal parts grand and terrifying; heroic and villainous!
One of my favorite moments in a Fatalis hunt is when you land the Dragonator hit, and Proof of A Hero starts playing. Suddenly, I'm not tired of getting beat up anymore. Suddenly, it's "go time".
Excellent analysis! Phase 1 is just so delightfully dreadful, I think it's a perfect balance of faithful to the old, but also fresh and new. And Phase 2 is absolutely gorgeous, to me it perfectly captures a small glimmer of hope in a once hopeless situation. Like you've made just Fatalis bleed; victory is *possible.* And that keeps the player going. The use of MHW main theme and Astera motics really gets me as well man, I adore Phase 2's theme Now I gotta watch that Allmother video and catch up on the album! Like holy shit how did I miss that, it's audible gold! Can't wait :D
This song represents the emotion of our hunter at all times. First scared and unsure but then reminding oneself what you are fighting for and what you have endured up to this point (city and theme references) and starts to fight with more resolution
My Friend, I must tell you, as a 17 Year Veteran of the Monster Hunter Series, listening to all of the music composed in every title, even the Japan release titles only, I've always tried to tell many Hunter's about how much the music defines the Monsters in the game series and why there so important, but I could never figure out actually "how" to specifically explain it, because I just don't know music at all lol, But your accuracy in the melody's, the theme's themselves, is so pin point perfect in your explanation's, I can not tell you how awesome this is to show case to my friends, my Monster Hunter community, this is truly amazing, and I hope more gamer's will now start to understand how important Character/Boss music is to a game, if done correctly, it truly can make or break a event, scene, moment in any game, if done correctly. Thank you !!
The first phase "Here I come!! I bring thy terror! I bring thy fear! I bring destruction! Thy shall perish to ashes!!" The second phase "Thy shall burn!!!" Get a cover!! Operate that ballista and guns!! Reload the canons!! Aim for the chest and its eyes!!! Proff of Hero "Oh... Crap" GO GET 'EM BOYS
The way I've always seen the disoriented parts of the first theme is the absolute panic that this thing instills. The ruined castle you fight on? This species was what did all that, *and more* in a single night. If you don't kill this thing now, who knows where's next? Maybe it's because I've fallen so many times in that phase, but it always instills a primal dread in me whenever I listen to it. Once you get to phase two, I personally got the impression that, not only have you been able to push through the terror Fatalis instills, but Fatalis itself is beginning to take you as a serious threat. You've cleared the first hurdle - this thing isn't invincible. However, you've also pissed it off. It's time to finish what you started, and not let this thing finish you. Then we get to Proof of a Hero. Since there'll likely be a video on that later (might I suggest reacting to the most popular versions? Gen U's version deserves mention, I'd say), I'll just leave it at the following: There's a reason why it was played at the Olympics. Also, on the topic of Fatalis, another song to check out: the phase 2 theme of Zenith White Fatalis from the Monster Hunter Frontier series. To me, at least, that's the song that would play if you managed to incite the anger of a deity (which makes sense, given the context).
Incredible breakdowns man. I loved the music from MH, and hearing the tracks under such thorough scrutiny makes me appreciate them even more. Good stuff.
I like how in phase 2, it's more up beat but it never quite loses this "edge" to it. As if to subtly remind you that yeah you're winning, it's on the back foot BUT it's also Fatalis so letting your guard down would be utterly foolish.
man, you get all these references lmao, i played this series for so long i forgot them over time. nice video. i hope they make White Fatalis a thing in Rise so i can check that video out, white fatalis brought a primal fear in me back in the old games.
Clearly my favorite theme in all Monster hunter franchise so far. The most epic and heroic one for the most powerfull and legendary Monster ... FATALIS
Another great video! Most of the time when you point out little background instruments, I have usually caught them because i love monster hunter music like that, but this time you bested me. The tambourine, you said listen for it and i was like what tambor…. OooooooH shit there it is, never noticed it before! As I’ve mentioned in the comments in many of your videos, i love your breakdowns, looking forward to more.
You’re right about the choirs, in World and Iceborne at least it was pretty rare to hear choirs in a monster theme. It was reserved for Elder Dragons and monsters of unusual strength and ferocity. As soon as humans started singing, you would instantly get a pang of fear, like, “So I’ve got a real fight ahead of me, huh?” Speaking of choirs, the “Brachydios” and “Raging Brachydios” themes are so good. Not just technically like probably all MH’s songs are, but they’re genuinely catchy and inspiring in their own right. In my uneducated opinion at least! Brachydios is a mid level monster, not terribly difficult, who has a great theme. But the player can fight a rare variant of Brachy called “Raging Brachydios”. He’s much harder, more aggressive, and scarier. His theme song reflects that, with the dreaded choir music. The “chorus” of both their themes is so good, I get it stuck in my head every so often.
You should react to ancient monster hunter OST ! They where SO GOOD Also at phase 2 you are not close to beat him ahah , it's despair for you at this point and where many hunters lose the quest 😭
As a hunter I rarely get Goosebumps, but when they come, they come hard! The part in which Fatalis fused the thick metal barrier, ready to enter the final phase... was utterly Terrifying, but it was quickly followed by the memorable Proof of a Hero. In that moment I almost cried. What a fight!!
I really appreciate phase 2 a lot more after watching this video - I always liked it before, but I guess I never paid attention to the various themes repeating themselves consciously because Fatalis was always trying to kill me
Finally the video we all have been waiting for come true. love your review content, keep it up since I also want to learn some asect about being game composer myself
I love IB Fatalis so goddamn much. It´s the epitome of "It was better in the good ol´days? Guess what, the good ol´days are here for visit to smack your ass around!"
More MHW theme break down please, these explanations are soo good Safi Jiiva's or Raging Brachy's next? Chanting in music gets my goose bump going, and it feels super epic.
Love the commentary and how you tied Kokoto to Fatalis theme since I have been playing since the original Monster Hunter and remember the original themes of Fatalis and Kokoto. Also love how you tie the cords and how Fatalis and the hunter ties to which cords. Hope you get many likes and subs.
Fighting Fatalis would be a really different feels after watching this. Since I didn't realize the astera theme also at first. Btw did you play Monster Hunter World IB ?
For some reason, the part at 13:02 always reminds me of the battle in Schrade in the past, makes me think of the hunters/guards who lost in the fight against Fatalis Love the video!
The tri one or the world one? I'm more partial to the Tri one. They both have something of their own to say about their respective Alatreon, but I prefer the Tri one.
fun fact the original fatalis theme was a remix of the forest and hill's theme (or the verdant hills in generations) also, the human voices could also be all the hunters who fatalis melted into its hide with its fire breath, no joke that's something fatalis was stated to do in the lore
Well honestly fatalis is not wrong, humans are definitely the source of unbalance nature 😅 especially now. So I kinda get Fatalis’s anger and point there haha
The chaos in the start is fantastic, and the second half always sounds to me like a sort of depressing dance of the hunter trying to avoid the same fate as those before them. It's kinda hopeful but not quite. Loved this analysis like your previous videos, keep em coming!!
Man I totally forgot to add, the introduction of phase 1 basically says "Welcome to MH1, be horrified." Because all that music of slowed down Kokoto just devolves abruptly into the chior near screaming in chaos. I think the only instrument you can just barely hear underneath is a harp scaling the octaves messily. They did a similar thing in the piece Rise of Ghidorah in Legendary's King of the Monsters where they had a chord and then the monk choir chanting to really set you into the fear of the monster.
The part he mentions with the song switching between the hunters perspective and fatalis’ perspective, I like to think it’s trying to give that vibe of giving the hunter hope just for fatalis to smash that hope
So many of you guys requested this one! I finally got around to it.
By the way, have you seen the little series I did on the music of the God Serpents from MHRise? It's over here: ruclips.net/video/upxRbvxV1DM/видео.html

Hey I have a suggestion for ultimate white fatalis theme phase 2 from monster hunter frontier z
or the regular white fatalis theme
The second phase theme really is supposed to be heroic, it’s officially called “limitless courage”
"The Legend Descends" is Fatalis' theme.
"Limitless Courage" is the theme of the Hunters against Fatalis.
"Proof of a Hero" is the Hunter's theme
no, proof of the hero is the hunting horn mains ascending and giving the party strength

the main feeling I get from the different phases of fatalis is this: first phase is an absolute frenzy. it's a great tool to create shear panic in players who probably either feel confident in their ability to beat him or is scared of what is to come. combined with fatalis's insane timing/speed on his attacks throughout the fight creates this feeling of being outmatched and there is no backing out. it's when the player and character realizes it's going to be the fight of their lives. the switching of perspective of heroic and terror plays into the players small glimmer of hope that its beatable and the wall they still have climb to reach their goal. phase two is where the real learning phase kicks in. this is when you've basically seen most of his attacks and is just trying to learn the fight and timing. having a more heroic tone plays into that perfectly, because at this point you've been given positive feedback and that you're doing something to fatalis. it fills the player with hope. its isn't until phase 3 hits and the purple flame is revealed that the player is given terror again but this mostly shown in the visuals: the sheer bright purple flame contrasting the dark colors on fatalis himself as well as the environment of castle shrade coupled with how much damage it actually does to you indicated by either you fainting at full health or him doing 90% of your health in one hit. only time music plays into it is when u faint and the music cuts out or it plays the quest failed music which is full of sorrow. when you use the dragonator though, music becomes the forefront again playing the original proof of a hero score. the player is given so much hope from hearing that, meaning fatalis is at his wits end and the fight is almost over. I honestly cant remember what is playing during the fatalis death animation but any joy from that moment is through the visuals of fatalis flialing around before finally giving in and dieing.
.......the player then has the biggest ego around until arch tempered velkana comes around to knock them down a peg.
Unless you're like me and beat AT velk in 2 tries and had a way harder time with fatalis
Yeah Fatalis and At Velkhana are great endgame battles, mostly for veterants because you can fill the thrill and energy of the figth again every time you figth them
The theme playing during Fatalis's death animation is the original victory theme way back in MH1
So Capcom is basically hitting long time hunters with a bullet train full of nostalgia
"Time has ran out"
Proof of a hero playing puts the buffs from the hunting horn in your party to shame, it just enhances your focus so much that you are hitting and dodging more consistently.
I did.
@@xxx_jim_the_reaper_xxx We respect your struggles, first fleeter o7
Lol I used iron lance because like nothing else had good green sharpness
the monsters movement are designed around ours, so Fatalis was just as wonnky
@@DanielPereira-ey9nt
And Fatalis face-hugging the wall quite oftentimes. Hahahahahhahahaha
Glad I could help you enjoy this music even more :)
This track makes me feel EXACTLY like how Dark Souls fans felt when they heard Gwyn's theme chime in on the last phase of the DS3 final boss.
Yeah
Gwyn Theme: Plin plin plon.
Dark Souls players: crying.
Fatalis theme: *_exists._*
Monster Hunter players: _TERRIFIED SCREAMING_
Oh yeah.
That was a great indepth look into one of the most epic tracks in the game. Thank you for your insight!
Glad you liked it, Glyde :)
I actually LOVE listening to you explaining whats going on in every theme.. you have your words ON POINT. keep it up man
Thank you my friend!
Fatalis is also nostalgia incarnate. Hearing Fatalis' theme brings back nearly 20 years of memories from an ever growing ever evolving game. I tear up everytime I hear this theme because of how epic both the monster and theme is.
Something neat to note is that the first phase of the theme is a remix of the Forest and Hills theme from Monster Hunter 1, or Rathalos’ theme
Oh, I completely missed that!
@@DaviVasc I completely missed the Kokoto village parts as well
I noticed that too
This theme give me chills.
Thank you for watching, my friend. I'm glad to you're excited to see what I'll post next!
Im so glad you did this . This is one of the best fights with one of the best themes in all of Monster Hunter . Your theme analysis sort of videos are top notch . I havent found a single person who does those kind of videos better than you , so keep it up man :)
Thank you for saying this, Philipp :)
Fatalis' theme in world, the first time, and the last time I heard it, made me tear up, and become more determined than ever.
I've been listening to his theme since October and it always made me tear up, i can feel my struggle through this soundtrack alone
This seriously makes me appreciate the experience Capcom crafted so much more. There is so much thought put into the music: relief and tension; heroism and destruction. Awesome coverage of it!
Capcom cares so much about game music, it makes me so happy
they did this so much justice and it makes me so excited for whatever they bring next! that high piano melody at 13:43 is incredible and makes you feel so heroic. great breakdown as always!
Thank you!
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate also has great songs.
I really love the Gogmajuzu and Dalamadur Themes
These ones are great. I also want to do a video on Shagaru's theme
That is a really interesting take
This take holds more when you remember the cutsceness prior to this was about the hunters who fell if I recall, even down to a line saying "we owe it to them, lets make their sacrifice count" I think when the dragonator is found?
When you’re so close to death that you can hear the souls of the damned cheering you on
Was really looking forward to you talking about Fatalis theme.
Design-wise it's a little boring to me, but it definitely makes up for it in everything else
Idk about being the best monster but his design is ok tho
@elyungpenetos9603 I agree there. BUT must admit World dome Fatalis a huge favour with his redo. Same with Amatsu in Rise
That part at 12:55 always hypes me up. Yoi truly nailed with that of the festive feeling. The entire orchestra and voices do sound like an anthem of celebration.(also, is nobody gonna talk about that beautiful piano slide at 13:44?
I keep killing that spicy lizard long boi just for that part only
My favourite part has to be the references to Driven By the Stars; all throughout World, they focus a lot on brass in the music and to me it feels like that first play of the reference in brass is the Hunter and all the people still behind you, those yet to come, and those who've sadly left the fight rallying to end this fight, but it repeats a second time in choir, the representation of danger in World, and feels just slightly disturbed (though I can't place why) which I see as Fatalis scoffing at our arrogance and mocking us with a rally of his own
I love how dramatic his theme is.
This the final fight.
This is the decisive fight.
This is your end.
Whenever you do these MHW:I melody reactions/breakdowns,I have the urge to go back home. I love world's music, and it makes me want to come back and play it every day and listen to your take on the monsters themes
MH music is soo good at being nostalgic, its crazy
I've been waiting for this
Hope you enjoyed it, my hentai loving friend
@@DaviVasc screenshot worthy
@@DaviVasc WTF AHAHA 😂
You finally did it and it only took a thousand years also did you notice that the some of the lyrics seem to be saying "oh help me God help us"
Not sure about a thousand years. But a thousand requests, definitely. lol
Cool interpretation. Doesn't sound dumb to me!
Incredible ! Thank for giving me a totally new way of understanding my favourite video game serie !
I learn a lot about these themes from you guys in the comments as well!
Thank you friend
Great analysis as always! Love your explanations. I love this theme because of Kokoto village theme reference. I think Fatalis theme for World version is filled with MH history. Oh, I can hear Iceborne main theme in this theme and I’m not sure, but toward the end of the theme, I can hear Lao-Shan Lung theme… Proof of a Hero, maybe? I feel like playing MHW again. Thank you for this amazing video, Davi!!
Oh yeah, I didn't mention it in the video but fragments of Proof of a Hero a sprinkled all over this. Thanks Aya!
Your breakdown has made me love fatalis theme even more. The first phase of the song feels like it's the end of humanity, like extinction is upon the human race, while the second phase feels like humanity's last final stand against the creature that is about to bring extinction to them. It's so intense. I love it.
Proof of hero playing after using the Dragonator is the cherry on top of this fight
YYYEEEEEESSS! Now all I need is Gogmazios and Dalamadur.
I don't even remember these two themes, it' been a while since I fought them in 4U. Would be fun to refresh my memory in a video!
I'd love to see a breakdown of TRI/3U's Ceadeus theme one day because I think it's very unusual compared to most of the other big elder dragon themes.
A video on Ceadeus theme is coming soon
I just found your channel a few minutes ago through my suggestions and so far I’ve only watched 3 videos (all Monster Hunter: Shara Ishvalda, this one, and Proof of a Hero). I’m working through them and will definitely be watching more for sure!
I always felt that when a player character fights a Fatalis, they go from a hunter to a hero, and it's interesting how the music makes the player feel more heroic
This fight is amazing! I can't even decide which phase I like the most, they're all awesome!
Great video, can't wait for Alatreon :P
Glad you like it, Buck!
This essential immortality that the Fatalis species seem to have, and it's raw, destructive power, is what makes this beast seem so unnatural to us.)
Overall, Fatalis is my all time favorite monster, and it's family of Crimson and White Fatalis have equally as pleasing themes.
Oooh, so happy to know this motivated you to tackle Fatalis again. Congrats!
Fatalis' theme goes pretty hard makes me wanna fight him whenever I get online lmao
But seeing a breakdown like this makes me love the theme even more
I really love Monster Hunter
And I really loved World so to hear one of my favorite themes broken down like this is awesome
Glad you enjoyed it, my friend
Other people have mentioned references to Zorah, so you're probably right. I can't remember Zorah's theme off the top of my head so I can't tell
I love that the song itself represents the climactic battle between man and a draconic mass extinction event. In equal parts grand and terrifying; heroic and villainous!
You have an ear for music. You caught themes that I didn't even recognize in this. It made me appreciate the Fatalis theme even more
I'm happy you enjoy this music more because of what I said. That means a lot to me!
The use of MHW main theme and Astera motics really gets me as well man, I adore Phase 2's theme
Now I gotta watch that Allmother video and catch up on the album! Like holy shit how did I miss that, it's audible gold! Can't wait :D
Haha hope you enjoy the album!
Fatalis probably has one of the best phase music in gaming cause it tells such a story
I agree, of all bosses i faced, defeated, dominated, Fatalis has taken the #1 spot for me
This song represents the emotion of our hunter at all times.
First scared and unsure but then reminding oneself what you are fighting for and what you have endured up to this point (city and theme references) and starts to fight with more resolution
I can tell this channel is gonna explode in popularity. Keep up the good work!
P.S. I’d love to see your take on Vaal Hazak’s theme.
We're getting there. Thanks for the suggestion!
I'm glad to have you here in the channel David, and it makes me happy to see how important MH music is to you. Hope you'll keep enjoying the videos!
I really think when you take a moment to appreciate music in games, you enjoy them way more, specially in MH or Dark Souls games
Absolutely. A lot of thought and effort goes into it.
Man, this is the first time i see an appreciation of music video. And it's about fatalis. And it's totally great!!!
The first phase
"Here I come!! I bring thy terror! I bring thy fear! I bring destruction! Thy shall perish to ashes!!"
The second phase
"Thy shall burn!!!"
Get a cover!! Operate that ballista and guns!! Reload the canons!! Aim for the chest and its eyes!!!
Proff of Hero
"Oh... Crap"
GO GET 'EM BOYS
Proff! Of Hroe!
It was so nice to hear Driven by the Stars in the middle of the hunt cause I actually had a connection to said game for once as I started in World
The way I've always seen the disoriented parts of the first theme is the absolute panic that this thing instills.
Good stuff.
That makes me so happy. Thank you for letting me know!
I miss a lot of the references too. There are just too many. Good thing someone always catches them and mentions it in the comments for us
Clearly my favorite theme in all Monster hunter franchise so far.
Haha, that is a cool thing about music, specially orchestral music. If you pay attention there is always a new detail you've never noticed before.
You’re right about the choirs, in World and Iceborne at least it was pretty rare to hear choirs in a monster theme. It was reserved for Elder Dragons and monsters of unusual strength and ferocity. As soon as humans started singing, you would instantly get a pang of fear, like, “So I’ve got a real fight ahead of me, huh?”
Speaking of choirs, the “Brachydios” and “Raging Brachydios” themes are so good.
The “chorus” of both their themes is so good, I get it stuck in my head every so often.
phase 1 is like a dire situation, phase 2 is “help is on the way we can call help from the hunter guilds “ great reaction!
You should react to ancient monster hunter OST !
They where SO GOOD
Also at phase 2 you are not close to beat him ahah , it's despair for you at this point and where many hunters lose the quest 😭
I really appreciate phase 2 a lot more after watching this video - I always liked it before, but I guess I never paid attention to the various themes repeating themselves consciously because Fatalis was always trying to kill me
Haha, there is not much time to consciously appreciate the music in such a demanding fight. Thank you for watching, Patrick!
Finally the video we all have been waiting for come true. love your review content, keep it up since I also want to learn some asect about being game composer myself
Glad you want to learn about being a game composer, that is really cool!
I love IB Fatalis so goddamn much.
It´s the epitome of "It was better in the good ol´days? Guess what, the good ol´days are here for visit to smack your ass around!"
such a masterpiece, such a great explanation!
More MHW theme break down please, these explanations are soo good
Safi Jiiva's or Raging Brachy's next? Chanting in music gets my goose bump going, and it feels super epic.
I just did Safi! ruclips.net/video/ShSKB7fHEPc/видео.html
Thank you! I always saw most of Fatalis’s theme was visualizing the fight of Fatalis vs Hunter for so long.
Thank you for watching, Omega :)
I do think the Kokoto theme is a bit of a hint to the region that Castle Schrade is in
Ooh, I didn't even think of that! You might be right.
Much respect to first fleeters
Great video!! Can you make one from Zenith White Fatalis???
Sure!
Damn your knowledge of the music across the numerous entries really enriches your breakdowns. Fantastic work 👍
Thanks man
Fighting Fatalis would be a really different feels after watching this. Since I didn't realize the astera theme also at first.
Btw did you play Monster Hunter World IB ?
amazing video!! finally, a reaction to the LEGENDARY DRAGON FATALIS theme!!!
"Cumbersome and big" Fatalis still moves faster than most end game monters, truly size doesn't matter but how you use it
in old day fatalis move like snail and fly like fat chicken, but he hit like train
@@sammidul4080 this one hits hard and fast and can tank the meteor that killed the dinosaurs worth of damage,
For some reason, the part at 13:02 always reminds me of the battle in Schrade in the past, makes me think of the hunters/guards who lost in the fight against Fatalis
Love the video!
Thank you, Mia!
You should react to Alatreon’s theme because it’s really unique.
The tri one or the world one? I'm more partial to the Tri one. They both have something of their own to say about their respective Alatreon, but I prefer the Tri one.
@@therighttrousers343 same
I will!
@@DaviVasc Awesome, I love your videos man.
fun fact the original fatalis theme was a remix of the forest and hill's theme (or the verdant hills in generations)
also, the human voices could also be all the hunters who fatalis melted into its hide with its fire breath, no joke that's something fatalis was stated to do in the lore
WHERES MY DRAGONATOR
I had a great run against Fatalis that I remember a lot. Fatalis theme always makes me remember those epic moments and it makes me tear up.
Well honestly fatalis is not wrong, humans are definitely the source of unbalance nature 😅 especially now. So I kinda get Fatalis’s anger and point there haha
PLEASE do a video on the Proof of a Hero theme in the Fatalis fight, it’s such an inspiration!
Hopefully
The chaos in the start is fantastic, and the second half always sounds to me like a sort of depressing dance of the hunter trying to avoid the same fate as those before them. It's kinda hopeful but not quite.
Loved this analysis like your previous videos, keep em coming!!
Depressing dance is such an interesting way to put it!
They did a similar thing in the piece Rise of Ghidorah in Legendary's King of the Monsters where they had a chord and then the monk choir chanting to really set you into the fear of the monster.
i love how you always explain everything. VERY interesting 🙂
Another great analyse ! Happy to understand this theme finaly ^^ (for the next i hope is the alatreon)
Not sure if next but Alatreon is coming soon
The part he mentions with the song switching between the hunters perspective and fatalis’ perspective, I like to think it’s trying to give that vibe of giving the hunter hope just for fatalis to smash that hope
Love your musical breakdowns🤘
Can't wait for Proof of a Hero, it always makes me wanna rush into battle just thinking of it
Soon...
i appreciate your explanation so i love this game more i want more like this video.^^
Glad you like it!
