I almost teared up when I first heard this when Alatreon was released in Iceborn, Tri was my first MH game and the themes in the game are amoung my absolute favorites in the whole franchise
Alatreon is such an iconic monster, with a great soundtrack, and there are plenty of other elder dragons to go over, who also have good soundtracks as well, alongside some monsters as well. For example Alatreon was never the final boss in MH3U, he was just the final boss for the main village storyline, there is also another "final boss" of sorts at the end of the guild quests; Dire Miralis, and his music is pretty good. Another is that Fatalis actually is not alone, there is also crimson and white Fatalis as well, though sadly these two never made it to iceborne. Velkhana also has a cool soundtrack (no pun intended lol) another good one is Shara Ishvalda, though it actually has two separate themes, one for each phase.
Loved your expression on the MH3U ref, it captured exactly what we all felt ^^ Also thanks for explaining the Hollywood sound, that was a great segment for those who are not aware of these things!
So glad you found this guy!! He's so good at what he does, I hope you continue to watch his content! (Also love your stuff too, super informative and helpful when I was getting into the series
We need Davi on Third Fleet Podcast discussing the music of MH which is ridiculously underrated. I'd love to see that, the music of MH is one of the key aspects of the MH experience
Alatreon is not only intelligent but sadistic too. Just look at his world cutscene....the way he slowly turns around and went into his posture. He gives off sadistic and even arrogant vibes.
@@groudongamer3178 Yet strangely, it seems like the World theme is more controlled than its MH3U version. Makes it seem like this time around, it's much older and knows what it's doing. Which makes it even more terrifying.
I soloed alatreon about a week ago, finding the right equipment was like a puzzle and I failed quite a few times, and towards the end I was rehearsing his theme in my head
That’s the same for me when I beat Alatreon a few months ago. Grinding for dozens of hours for ice dual blades from kulve then grinding and learning Alatreon’s patterns. I’m so glad that I never looked up a guide and worked for my victory, that made this and my Fatalis fights that much better.
@@TheOn3_ I do feel like its pure luck if he just flies out of reach or spams pin attacks to prevent enough element damage to stop him. If you keep adjusting and stay persistent youll get em eventually
I'd love to hear what you think of Namielle's theme from Iceborne! I hear a lot of references to the ocean and marine life on that theme, and even a low reverberation that sounds like electric eels, which represents Namielle's own control over water and lightning. It sounds imposing but also graceful and aquatic
I remember reading an article that intrerviewed the composers for the Original Alatreon theme featured in Tri. They stated that the aim for alatreon’s theme was one of instability, which ecompass his lore quite nicely. Additionally, they wanted to include heavenly and dark, tense melodies to tag along with that theme and elevate it to where it is today. They freaking nailed all of those things and more with this piece for sure imo.

He represents the balance of nature and what destruction it can cause in the wrong hands. Notice that Alatreon is the only monster of it's level to not have vocals, idk what it means but it's interesting (great vid btw)
Dawn of the Death Star One breath, one shriek, one lament. It screams, like an icy dead star that rejects the light. The evening was a scorching inferno the night was a symphony of chaos now a soulless cold atmosphere reigns. This is not a end, this is not a beginning, this is something beyond our mind. No life was so bitter, no damnation was so sweet, the end and the beginning are now one. Embrace the fate, face the Dawn of the Death Star.

When you mentioned the "Hollywood" style of music and explained the ostinato, it reminded me of the work of Danny Elfman. I feel like a lot of his signature soundtracks from the 90s for Tim Burton had a similar feel (which I loved). Still my favorite movie composer.
Wrath of the Evening Star He burns like an unholy Inferno, its seething like a burning star who revels in the dark. In the corrupted spirit of the summer the soul of anger glows which in glorified madness hates everything that is alive and dead. Heat, demon, purgatory he is all this and yet not. No devil has ever survived him, no angel has ever seen him because he is the omnipresent art of anarchy whose existence tremble the gods and even death. His anger, his fire burns everything down, nothing good and nothing bad will survive this catastrophe. Because it is the symbol of destruction, the omen of emptiness, the eternal wrath of the evening star!
HELL YESSSSS ALATREONNNNN!!! A favorite comment about its theme I once read was how the tempo contrast signifies the elemental chaos and imbalance Alatreon represents, and it fits so damn well in its theme! Also, Alatreon is a love letter to 3rd gen hunters, not only the slipped-in Tri theme but also the victory fanfare for Tri! Truly one of the best monster themes!
Oh I love this song, it is incredible to me that I, to this day I'm not able to solo Alatreon. Honestly it is a mesmerizing monster, the music it's just the cherry on top.
3:43 middle eastern timbre and motifs are associated with hot temperature (desert levels in video games etc.). Since Alatreon can switch to and control multiple elements, the music switching up to a warmer region makes total sense.
Man I'm really glad I found your channel, your breakdowns of the basic theory and why the music feels the way it does is so good, I'm looking forward to seeing you do stuff like this for songs from other games as well, especially things I'm not familiar with, it's always cool to discover new music.
That makes me happy. A lot of people request songs and then get mad when the next video is not what they requested. Glad you're open to listening to new stuff. Thanks!
Woo! I'm so glad you covered Alatreon's theme! I honestly love the change in tempo representing Alatreon's control over elements being unstable, while being utterly noble-sounding in the beginning. The timpani beat in the start of the faster section is also super cool, it went from electric guitar in Tri and 3U to timpani, both sound delightfully intimidating. Also to lead on from this, I'd totally look at Zinogre's theme from Iceborne. Has some other interesting game references in the theme too ;)
I think the tempo swapping is also meant to represent Alatreons constant phase swapping. They also play a variation of the Gen 3 Main Theme in the quiet part starting at 3:00 .
Ah one of my favourite OST from the game, it starts all the ominous and then transition to tone like lullaby of death kind of thing, it gives us feeling of slowly time of judgement is approaches. This is my take on the OST, can't wait for your explanation
Always good to see your expressions when you analize a theme. Especialy from this cool and tromatic dragon. But, about the feeling of terror you talk about, you could compare this version withe the horiginal one. with the horiginal, the feeling of terror is really present from the begining. i'm literally whtching all your videos with big interest. ^^
8:10 I think this is such a beautiful description that captures the spirit of 3rd Gen, and partly explains why 3rd Gen has my favorite MH atmosphere compared to the other generations. Thank you for these videos!

Oi Davi! The MH themes really are very impressive. I love the way the tension ramps up at the beginning. It’s great that we saw you “playing” the piano with two hands for a millisecond btw even if it was just with two fingers :)
I can't wait for you to analyze Ceadeus's theme as hopefully part of a MH3 elder dragon theme trilogy to go with his MH2 elder dragon theme trilogy and World elder dragon theme trilogy
I have no musical talent, no desire to play an instrument. But I really enjoy these breakdowns, helps me appreciate the effort put into making such fantastic music
The 3u callback was so amazing the first few times (always) when i listened to it alatreon is such a cool monster and tri was my first real mh game so I have a lot of nostaglic for alatreon
Yesterday i fought him for the first time with my friends. The theme fits so much to him. His ingame posture, moves and aura makes you think he is saying "I am so much better than you, mortals". Such an arrogant pain in the a**
Thanks for going into detail about how much we love music and describing the emotions that are conveyed through these amazing songs! I would really love to hear what you think of Ceadeus' themes, sticking with MH3
NOW I KNOW WHAT PART MADE ME THINK THIS TRACK WAS BEAUTIFUL! It's the Tri Opening leitmotif! It truly gives a sense of wonder- like how nature is both amazing and frightening.
Hey so another thing I believe you might have accidentally missed and it's very subtle. At 3:41 that is actually tri's/3 ultimate's melody playing and it hints to the eventual build up when the main melody plays. It's good foreshadowing to the rest of the music piece and a good subtle allusion to the games this monster is from. also for the memes: *Alatreon holds his head up high* Hunters: "Get down here you little sh*t and let us break those horns!"
The 3U theme I didn't expect at all, but love it! 3rd gen is my fave Monster Hunter game. On a separate note I'd really like to see you react to Namielle's theme, my personal fave for gen 5.
Another great video Davi. I wasn’t a big fan of Alatreon’s theme when it first released but it has slowly grow on me over time and now I feel like I have a much better understanding and appreciation for it. Still hoping you’ll get to Shara Ishvalda’s theme soon. Both phases of it are quite unique, especially compared to most other monster hunter themes. They use a lot of unique instruments that you don’t hear in other MH themes.
Absolutely my reaction when "to the alive" (mh tri main theme) hits. It was actually in the original alatreon theme back on wii, but they went nuts with it on this version. Have to love it, such a beautiful, nostalgic song as the "heroic" moment of this elder dragon OST can't be anything but a love letter for those who played the third gen.
I would really love to see you break down Velkana's and Nergigante's theme from World. They are two of my most favorite monsters in the series. Also Mizutsune and the Map themes from Rise.
@@DaviVasc Can we get shara isvalda? Probably my favorite boss in MHW and the theme is amazing also having a neat reference that I won’t spoil if you haven’t listened to the track already.

I would to hear what you think of both gore magala and shagaru magala's theme, tge contrast they have is amazing. P.s: and while you're at it, listen to the chaotic gore magala theme as well :)
I think they added the MIddle Eastern instrument for unorthodox sense of music In my grasp, Alatreon brings "foreign/alien scenario" wherein we do not know WHY (maybe he was lured by Safi) it goes to Secluded Valley. He is some sort of a unexpected visitor to the New World. Great video! I am enjoying these content!
Davi bro you are awesome! Btw I may hace a recommendation for ya it is the Dire Miralis theme from Mh3u. BRO! One of the most beautiful battle themes ever. Keep up the good work my g
You should react to Nergigante's theme! AT (Arch Tempered) Nergigante to be specific, I feel like his music has a lot of weight in it, especially since his quest was the last quest to be added to High Rank in Monster Hunter World before Iceborne was released.
It is funny how the brain recognizes music sometimes. I selectively recognized and heard the 3rd gen reference part, and knew that i had already heard that many times before, but i couldn't for the life of me remember in which context. Fascinating.
This might be a bit of odd pick but can you breakdown Vaal Hazak's theme? I think it's one of the best elder dragon themes from MHW. Your vids are awesome man, keep it up!
I almost forgot how beautiful and powerful Alatreon theme is. Also I'd like to say one thing. 5:22 I'm Italian, and in Italian "Ostinato" is a word (an adjective) that is used to describe someone who changes his mind really hardly, and in some ways a person who is "very determined and keeps doing something over and over again even if other people keep saying to stop". Basically someone who keeps doing something. Which fits perfectly with that aspect of the theme.
To me, the qanun and some other instruments that plays in the background are here to emphasise the fact that Alatreon controls all elements with the qanun representing fire, bells for the ice or some of the cymbals for thunder for examples. On the other hand, the first thing that comes to my mind with the tempo shift, is that it's here to remind us that he's still a black dragon and that he sould not ne underestimated.
Man, that MH3U reference! *chef's kiss*

When you mentioned the "Hollywood" style of music and explained the ostinato, it reminded me of the work of Danny Elfman. I feel like a lot of his signature soundtracks from the 90s for Tim Burton had a similar feel (which I loved). Still my favorite movie composer.
Yeah, a lot of the hollywood style that I mentioned is just Elfman and Zimmer being oversimplified and repeated over and over again
oh my gosh, I almost forgot about you bcoz of lots of works good thing you came by my suggestions again coz I've been waiting for this!
Wrath of the Evening Star
He burns like an unholy Inferno, its seething like a burning star who revels in the dark.
AYYYY I’ve been hoping for this, Great job
Hope you enjoyed it :D
What i love about Alatreon's theme is that there is almost no hope in these, unlike Fatalis and Safi
3:43 middle eastern timbre and motifs are associated with hot temperature (desert levels in video games etc.). Since Alatreon can switch to and control multiple elements, the music switching up to a warmer region makes total sense.
Ah, good point
Thank you so much with making this review and analysis video.
Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks!
3:08 this part sounds like the mission failed theme. i think they're saying to us indirectly that we are gonna fail this mission a lot xD
I know I did XD
I really love your videos! Thanks for giving a glimpse of musical world through theory!
Has some other interesting game references in the theme too ;)
I came here just for your reaction but i was surprised by how much i've learned about music from your channel alone, you deserve a sub 🙏
This theme is absolutely amazing, I dream of listening to this in person with a live orchestra... Such an amazing piece!
Im going to keep mentioning Namielle, do get around to that theme.
My personal favorite monster, and the theme just fits the design so dang much.
I will get around to it for sure. It's not at the top of the list since there are other highly requested monsters, but I'll do it. Have faith!
Hearing that MH3U reference was such a nostalgia trip, Alatreon's theme will always be a memorable one.
Yesssss the one i requested. Thank you man!
Glad this was the one you wanted!
I think the tempo swapping is also meant to represent Alatreons constant phase swapping.
They also play a variation of the Gen 3 Main Theme in the quiet part starting at 3:00 .
I just love the way you talk about all those amazing themes.
I can tell you'd enjoy the theme of Dire Miralis another Black Dragon
Sure, Miralis gets suggested a lot. I'll do it for sure
@@DaviVasc awesome
I feel like the instruments clashing against to each other is represent Alatreons unstable control of the elements he uses
There's another 3U ref at 3:00 or so, played by the woodwind. It's the same ref you found later in the piece but this time with a very different mood.
Ah one of my favourite OST from the game, it starts all the ominous and then transition to tone like lullaby of death kind of thing, it gives us feeling of slowly time of judgement is approaches.
This is my take on the OST, can't wait for your explanation
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@DaviVasc yup fully, loved how you broke down everything and pointed out the 3rd gen reference!
Same. I miss when MH worlds were more grounded jurassic worlds that demanded respect from us. Thank you for watching!
Really cool, man! I actually felt the same about that Mh3 reference on the time that Alatreon came on MHW iceborne. It was amazing. I enjoy every video about every marvelous mh themes and It is very interesting to know the theory behind such magnificent works. Good vibes, man 🤙🏼
Thanks, Ivan!
This Alatreon theme is soooooo epic! Seriously love it. Shows that duality of Alatreon switching elements so so well!
Oi Davi! The MH themes really are very impressive. I love the way the tension ramps up at the beginning. It’s great that we saw you “playing” the piano with two hands for a millisecond btw even if it was just with two fingers :)
Hahaha, that is about as far as I go with two hands at the same time :D
This is one of my favorites theme
For my favorite monster
Great video! Loved your reaction for the 3rd gen theme
Thank you Roei!
I can't wait for you to analyze Ceadeus's theme as hopefully part of a MH3 elder dragon theme trilogy to go with his MH2 elder dragon theme trilogy and World elder dragon theme trilogy
A Ceadeus video is coming soon
7:25 I always associated that part with dire miralis, but now that you mention it, I remembered both use the main theme XD
Yas! I've been waiting for this!
Hope you enjoyed it :D
@@DaviVasc You bet i did, as with all the MH content 👌
I have no musical talent, no desire to play an instrument. But I really enjoy these breakdowns, helps me appreciate the effort put into making such fantastic music
If I'm drawing attention to what these fantastic composers are doing, this makes me happy. Thank you.
I finally encoutered alatreon today, So I could watch this. Great elder dragon, great theme and great analysis 😄
I love those smileys you also add. makes it so adorable. :D
😊 thank you
The 3u callback was so amazing the first few times (always) when i listened to it alatreon is such a cool monster and tri was my first real mh game so I have a lot of nostaglic for alatreon
Ceadeus will be the first 3rd gen reaction I'm gonna do. Soon!
NOW I KNOW WHAT PART MADE ME THINK THIS TRACK WAS BEAUTIFUL! It's the Tri Opening leitmotif! It truly gives a sense of wonder- like how nature is both amazing and frightening.
Love the vids. Amazing analysis. You should do Dire Miralis next, hitting back on the 3U vibes. Greetings from Colombia!
Miralis is definitely coming soon. Might do Ceadeus first, but Miralis is coming soon after for sure
Hey so another thing I believe you might have accidentally missed and it's very subtle. At 3:41 that is actually tri's/3 ultimate's melody playing and it hints to the eventual build up when the main melody plays. It's good foreshadowing to the rest of the music piece and a good subtle allusion to the games this monster is from.
also for the memes:
*Alatreon holds his head up high*
Hunters: "Get down here you little sh*t and let us break those horns!"
The 3U theme I didn't expect at all, but love it! 3rd gen is my fave Monster Hunter game. On a separate note I'd really like to see you react to Namielle's theme, my personal fave for gen 5.
Third gen has a special place in my heart as well. Thank you for the suggestion!
Thank you, Banter! I'll definitley do Shara at some point!
My absolute favorite Monster! Thanks Mr Vasc!
Happy you liked it, Mr Temnov!
Amazing video man, and keep up the good work! I would love to see you dissect the theme of Shara Ishvalda sometime in the future as well.
Ishvalda is on the list!
MH Tri main theme is such a special theme. It always feels powerful whenever they use it
Alatreon has always been my favorite monster (if you couldn’t tell by my name lol) so I’ve been waiting for this
Glad you got the video you wanted!
7:05
I never really thought that this part was the 3U main theme, good call
I would really love to see you break down Velkana's and Nergigante's theme from World. They are two of my most favorite monsters in the series. Also Mizutsune and the Map themes from Rise.
Great suggestions. Thank you!
Velkhana has like 5 different battle themes, that'll be one long-ass video lol
@@DaviVasc Can we get shara isvalda? Probably my favorite boss in MHW and the theme is amazing also having a neat reference that I won’t spoil if you haven’t listened to the track already.
That quiet start always makes me go "oh yeah this dude it's gonna annihilate me what am I doing here again?"
Congratulations you have my like and my share. You're doing such a great job on this channel keep going
Thank you my friend. I'll honor your support by taking this channel as far as it can go.
Loved the video!!!, Alatreon is my favourite monster and it was amazing to hear you finally listen to this.
I would to hear what you think of both gore magala and shagaru magala's theme, tge contrast they have is amazing.
P.s: and while you're at it, listen to the chaotic gore magala theme as well :)
I'll probably do all the Magalas in a single big video. Thanks, man!
Another amazing review 👌
Thank you my friend
2:40 Alatreon's horns are called "Skypiercers" when they drop in game. Talk about holding your head up high when you're piercing the sky.
Great observation!
Thanks bro. And thanks for the suggestion too BRO
3.40 it's mh3 theme :D i love this theme sooo nuch, thanks for sharing insights about it from a capable prospective!
Thank you for watching!
You should react to Nergigante's theme! AT (Arch Tempered) Nergigante to be specific, I feel like his music has a lot of weight in it, especially since his quest was the last quest to be added to High Rank in Monster Hunter World before Iceborne was released.
Cool, thank you for the suggestion!
It is funny how the brain recognizes music sometimes. I selectively recognized and heard the 3rd gen reference part, and knew that i had already heard that many times before, but i couldn't for the life of me remember in which context. Fascinating.
Tri was my intro to monster hunter. And Alatreon was always my favorite Elder Dragon.
This might be a bit of odd pick but can you breakdown Vaal Hazak's theme? I think it's one of the best elder dragon themes from MHW. Your vids are awesome man, keep it up!
Not an odd pick, it has been suggested a lot. I'll do it at some point for sure!
Oh, that is so cool about the word ostinato. Thank you for sharing!
Hearing the mh3 music was such a nostalgia trip as 3u was my first mh game, so good
Same!
3:03 I think the third generation main theme is there too, but much more quiet and slow
