- The Tucson Jazz Institute Ellington Big Band playing Duke Ellington's Old King Dooji at the finale of the 2016 Essentially Ellington jazz competition.
One of the things that always surprises me about Essentially Ellington is that when you look up recordings of these jazz bands at their concert hall, or from a phone, they sound NOTHING like this. It's really impressive how good mics, good mixing, and a good hall can change your sound.

Are you saying they normally sound better at their own concert hall recordings? Or worse? Or just different?
Look up Tucson jazz institute. I swear they sound the same in person 👍🏽
@@nateyboi4813 OP is saying that the recording quality at EE is better.
@@Marina-rh2jc I think all of these bands at EE do; it’s just that the way they record them at EE is so high quality that it sounds like it would in real life.
This is one of the most enjoyable Essentially Ellington videos I've watched. That bit at the end with Miranda, Richie, Alex and Marcus really blew me away! ❤
Those kids can play, baby! Rockin'!
Fantastic talent especially the conductor...Priceless..
Great jazz outfit... loved the trumpet duetting. Great how so many young women are taking up brass instruments in jazz.
I love these improve circles!!!
It is pleasant to me as there lives Duke! A game of musicians in this orchestra in Duke's language - for me pleasure!
