    Hi from 🇸🇪 Sweden!
I love to hear when people from other countries than Sweden pronounces the names of IKEA's furniture etc.
    You're doing a pretty nice job 👍!
The names of IKEA's items are either names of places (Stockholm, Kallax), human names (Billy, Stigbjörn, Bror) or just a word, real, or made up, like a pun (Gladom, made from 'glad' = same in both English and Swedish, and the very typical Swedish word 'lagom', that is an absolutely exact measure of anything. When something isn't too much nor too little, too fast or too slow. Of course that measure differs from person to person and one occasion to another. "How much milk do you take in your coffee?" "Lagom, thank you!" 😳😂 Sometimes a guessing game!
Gladom likely means "not too glad, just 'lagom' ".)
Here are some more explanations from the video.
    Fjädrar - Feathers
    Sällskaplig - gregarious
    Bekant - familiar, known, acquainted
Skådis - short or slang for 'skådespelare'/'skådespelerska'= actor/actress
    Ädelsten - gem
Enudden - a name of a place, meaning 'the Juniper Ness' (small peninsula)
Bittergurka - Bitter Melon/ Bitter Gourd
    Vattenkrasse - Water Crest
Lindbyn - name of a place: the Linden Village

    • @RealNameNeverUsed

Bitter Gourd? What? Why? That’s so random.

Wow that's interesting. Thanks for sharing. I always kind of knew they should mean something, cuz I used to even study Norwegian.

    • @annabackman3028
      @annabackman3028 Год назад +1

@@crazymelomanka Yes, the Scandinavian languages*, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish are very similar. Spoken Swedish and Norwegian sound alike (well, depending on dialects of course, but let's use the standard languages here), and considering that Norway has two separate varieties, seen as different languages, Bokmål and Nynorsk. Nynorsk is heavily influenced by Danish. Norway's history is nearly 1000 years of occupation of either Denmark (the majority of time) and Sweden. 1814 Denmark had to give Norway to Sweden after the wars in the middle and north of Europe and Russia. That was the last time Sweden were in a war🤞. 1905 Norway was released from the "Swedish - Norwegian Union", but was invaded by Germany during WW2. Anyway, they have been it's own country since. All years under Danish flag made prints in spelling. Both Danish and Norwegian have stayed closer to the original Norse than Swedish. Even though Denmark borders to Germany, and has some influences from German and Low German, Swedish had huge trading connections since the Viking era. Both vocabulary and grammatically. The Hanseatic League where Visby on the island Gotland and Stockholm were involved, made hundreds of businessmen come here, to the underdeveloped North, seeing great opportunities to start up everything from crafts like glazier shops, glassblower shops to all kinds of trading.
A typical linguistical example is the words for 'window', actually "wind eye"
Danish - vindue (øje - eye)
      Norwegian - vindu/vindauge
      (øye/auge - eye)
Swedish - FÖNSTER from the Low German word 'Vinster', in modern Germany 'Fenster'. Coming from the Latin 'fenstera'. 'Fenstera' was used parallel to window in English for a long while.
HOWEVER, "vindöga", windeye, was, like in Danish and Norwegian a small opening or hatch for letting smoke out or light in, depending on where i was.
It's still used, mostly dialectally in different versions, for a tiny window or hatch on the attic or an old hay barn.
Hence, Swedish differences a bit from our neighbors, but we still at least understand, in general around 90-95% of written language. Swedes usually can understand spoken Norwegian, but we can have difficulty with Danish. Their pronunciation...😵‍💫😭😭😭, According to us they speak with a hot potato in the mouth, swallowing the last half of every word. And, they (true!) still counts like in the Dark Ages. It's about the same as in English and Swedish up to 20. Then it works like in German "One and Twenty", "two and twenty", "nine and twenty" etc. Until 49. That's where hell starts. They suddenly switch to 20 instead of 10. And it's a half here and a half there... Oh dear Lord, or something...
*Not to confuse with the Nordic Languages, which are Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic and Faroese from the Old Norse side AND Finnish from the Finno-Ugric languages.
"Norden" in Swedish, meaning exactly "The North" and "Scandinavia" are either confused or wrongly used interchangeably in English.
Scandinavia are the countries of the Scandinavian peninsula, the mountain ridge, (Norway and Sweden) and Denmark (the ridge isn't showing much in Denmark, but stretches there) and sometimes Finland, where the mountain ridge is clearly visible in the northern parts.
Anyway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands are not Scandinavia.

    Re: the *Sinnerlig Pendant Light:*
Despite its great look, its earthy, granola vibe, etcetera, it has the same *fatal flaw that most pendants have:* *ONE BULB.* With only one bulb these pendants and their hundreds of cousins are all but useless in an area (like an eating area) because you either put a gazillion watt bulb in there and blind everyone, or you have a dimly lit room / area.
It *also* shares *another big flaw* with other pendants: *_you can see the bulb_* in all its bare glory. This means the entire 'shade' is essentially useless as far as protecting your eyes from glare. The advent of L.E.D. bulbs also means you can't get large, incandescent frosted *'globe' bulbs* anymore that would have at least minimized the glare, at least none in wattages over 40 watt.

I’ve wanted to buy the Stockholm rug for so long and just didn’t commit. The big one was $199 when you posted this. Today, by me, (basically NYC), the big one is $399. 😭
You should do a price check update video.. comparing the prices in the video vs the prices today! Tragic!

I find LED lamps from ikea to be really cold, harsh light. I have one that is dimmable and even at it's lowest, I find the light quality to be so harsh.

The only thing I like in your list is the sofa and they do not have it anymore. It will perhaps reappear with a 50% price increase as they did with Kivik.

The fact that that rug is handwoven and it's that cheap, really means someone's labor is being exploited
