Kiala & The Afroblaster - What is the Meaning - LIVE at Musica Mundo Festival Amersfoort 2024

Kiala & the Afroblaster is a 10-piece Afrobeat band from Kiala Nzavotunga and Afrogrooves, an Amsterdam musician collective with a passion for Afrobeat music. The band brings a modern take on the vintage Afrobeat sound, full of tight percussion and brass lines, bluesy guitar riffs and powerful lyrics.
Kiala was born in Angola, grew up in Congo and made a musical career in Nigeria as the guitarist of Fela Kuti's band Egypt 80. After the adventure with Fela, he moved to Paris where he played in various bands. In 2018, he traveled to Amsterdam and met fellow Afrobeat enthusiasts at a jam session. Mutual admiration for this music led to camaraderie and instant musical chemistry. Important members of the Afrogrooves collective thus became the Kiala band.
In 2023, the band recorded new music, the Spiritual Power EP, which will be released in 2024. Spiritual Power builds on the band's classic Afrobeat sound with an injection of powerful hip-hop and funk influences.
