Yussef Dayes | Live at North Sea Jazz 2023

- We see the great drummer Yussef Dayes with his band, that exists of Malik Venner (saxophone), Elijah Fox-Peck (keyboards), Rocco Palladino (bass) en Alex Bourt (percussion) with the songs 'Tidal Wave', 'Tioga Pass' and 'Welcome to the Hills' at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2023 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Yussef Dayes' mum and dad bought him his first drum kit when he was just four, accompanied by a stern parental message for him to take his music seriously. His father knew what was at stake, as he had been a bass player himself in the competitive jazz scene of New York in the 1970s. Together with his bass-playing brother Kareem, Yussef jammed along for hours to their father's extensive jazz and reggae collection. At the age of ten, the talented youngster was already having lessons from former Miles Davis drummer Billy Cobham, an experience that he describes as groundbreaking. Equally influential were the grime and hip-hop influences of his south London school friends. Dayes became known as part of the band United Vibrations, and the energetic occasional duo Yussef Kamaal (with keyboardist Kamaal Williams). With his recent Yussef Dayes Experience, the versatile drummer mainly creates epic, dreamy soundscapes, sometimes applying mellow rhythms, and other times suddenly exploding into furious breakbeats.
I second that... Please listen with good speakers or headphones to hear & appreciate what the Sensei Rocco Palladino is truly doing on the bass.
Thank you to North Sea for hosting us!
Love
YD
youre awesome yussef and so creative. your playing touches my soul man. you are great yussef
❤
He is the son of Pino
@@dongvermine Son of Pino Palladino and Rocco Prestia 😄
You and Rocco are a legendary duo. Have been listening for years and will continue to do so, god bless
Hi guys, i wanted to thank you for your kind comments on the sound quality. I recorded this concert live to two-track for Dutch national TV broadcaster NTR. No mixing or postproduction afterwards. What a treat, these guys! They played at the Paradiso in Amsterdam a few years ago, i recorded that concert to, Yussef listened in the recording van afterwards. Such a great guy! Suoer talented, humble and musical.
You did a great job this is an amazing moment captured perfectly. 👏
It's very detailed and beautiful, so Thank You 💪😎🙏
Thanks for sharing! You did a great job on the recording.
respect
the triangle guy is killing it
He really is tho lol
RUclips’s algo has fed me a diamond. This is fantastic.
This is the highest level of class I have ever witnessed on a RUclips video
The shortest 17 minutes of my life to date.
I'm a firm believer that people like Yussef Dayes, Rocco Palladino, Venna and FKJ (Vincent Fenton) are at the cutting edge of Jazz and are improving the quality of my life with their art. ❤🤣🔥🤘🏿🙏🏿💪🏿
I feel like FKJ is a bit too cookie cutter to be on that list
I'd respectfully ask to you look at Alfa Mist in addition to that list. Also, if you think he is "cookie cutter," mind sharing some artists that aren't? I'd like to expand my repertoire :D @@Barney-ii1no
@@Barney-ii1no True. I love the man's music but I doubt it's "jazz" it's more like house pop I'd say
So true
I must disagree with you all. It's jazz for sure. There's improvisation, a swinging beat and that unique feel unlike any other American product on the market.
0:00 Tidal Wave
4:09 Tioga Pass
11:57 Welcome to the hills
Can’t remember the last time I admired a drummer so much. The guy is just incredible
agree! saw him live in CT sat nite-blew me away!!! everything i dream about as a drummer!
Elijah on the keys is so underrated
keeping it simple and tasteful… 👌
Phenomenal performance by him. Stole the first part of this set for sure with his little riffs on Tidal Wave ❤
He's brilliant.
Keys are always underrated😢😢
@@clarifaco Not always: Cory Henry/Lingus/Snarky is still a sensation: ruclips.net/video/L_XJ_s5IsQc/видео.html ;-)
Yussef and Rocco always hypnotize me, but this whole package definitely transport me to another dimension...
Lmao, the dude in the crowd 7:26 looks high out of his mind absolutely blown away by the performance lol
There is SO much hope for the young, new fresh jazz generation. Love YD 💙
For real !!! That is what I was saying. I believe the next gen of music is gonna be more of this style. It’s only the start. I’m here for it.
Ultra freshh 😍🧘🏻♂️👣
yesss!! @@JLBREMER
Yussef Dayes is the TRUTH!
Thank you North Sea Jazz festival for blessing us with this live recording.
My partner and I are really looking forward to seeing this amazing band for the first time live at Revolution Hall in Portland, OR.
Do yourself a favor and put your best headphones on, this has to be the best sounding bass I’ve ever heard
so glad my Son and I got to see Yussef and rocco live in Manchester with Malik and Elijah. superb album
Their best live perfomance. Jazz titans look at them from heaven and smile.
lol jazz titans thinking why these jive mofos being called jazz
Generally there is 0,0001% of this "type" of music that I like... And this is the one! Great skill and great melody together - rarely found.
This is MUSIC !!! 👏🏾
I remember seeing Youssef in Toronto in early 2023. Its a whole musical experience and I recommend it to any fan or musical aficionado (specially drummers). I was vibing throughout the whole concert and at the end of the show Youssef came up to me directly and fist bumped me. Will never forget.
Yussef, venna!!! The talent they both process I am in awe
Yussef love the vibe you bring out in all around us when listening to your grove. My son John and I are traveling from NYC to Tokyo to see the band at Blue Note in February. Stay blessed !
I love a sax player that plays with so much feeling they can’t contain it . This is truly my favorite British jazz band and musicians straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Band is dope. Sax man is official 👊🏽
Sometimes you end up in places you didn't expect - the algo delivered on this one. I don't listen to very much Jazz music but this grabbed my attention from the get go. The dummer is the draw here and delivers but don't sleep on the rest of the band who each have some moments to shine as well.
The trianglist is awesome
No one talking about the elegance & the precision of the percussionist....🔥🔥🔥🔥. Interesting how Yussef's Kit is tuned to create musical harmony .
I felt an immediate connection to his music the first time I heard one of his tracks! True talent!
YeaMan!!! Old school Fusion! At it's finest 😊 This wudhave, been on top W/ChicC, Weather Report, Acoustic Alchemy Herbie 😊
Been waiting, yes yes, Yussef is in the building. Burn time, go from this to Snarky Puppy. Yussef vs. Larnell Lewis...hmmm!
Heckyeah! I was going to say "throw Nate Smith in the mix too", but maybe just Yussef vs Larnell is better for contrast, eh? Nate and Yussef might be a whole 'nother show of their own. 😊
Holy shit, this sound, mixing and production is from another dimension…cheers to all the parties involved for bringing this ear balm to existence!
The triangle at 5:10 + is freaking nasty. Absolutely in the pocket.
Oh my days "Welcome to the Hills" is such a vibe
I was lucky enough to see Yussef and his band earlier at the beginning of October 2023 live @ The Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh, Scotland uk
Me too! 😊 I was visiting a friend who lives there and realised that they casually were gonna play just the weekend I was staying!
I was there too 🎉
A Fan after 2 minutes.. Lively and Bright... Thank You. Jazz lives on in the Netherlands.
Back again second time. Sounds incredible. Like old Bob James with more exciting musicians.
Music of the Spheres right here, absolutely transcendental musical alchemy at play. Seeing these guys at Cervantes Other Side in Denver is one of the best shows I've seen across all genres of music in over a decade of living here. Ill never miss a chance to see Yussef and his band whenever theyre nearby
Finally someone making good music again! 😩😭😍 I want to be at these events! 😭
Not a day goes by without blessing my ears and mind with these amazing artist and it inspires me to be still in love with this sad society.......
Thanks for posting this. Got tickets to see Yussef, Rocco and the rest of the band at the Sydney Opera House in 2024. I know I’m going to cry seeing this played live.
This music is like a balm on our shattered spirits. Phenomenal craft expressed in harmony from all of you guys. Keep on, hope that your music is and will be the important pillar of Devine connection with our diminishing humanity.
This is such a pleasure to LISTEN & WATCH the younger generation embracing LIVE INSTRUMENTS, NUFF RESPEKT !
saw him at the albert hall and it was an unbelievable gig

I'd love to know too. I was there live and I remember"Black Classical Music" and would die to relive that.

...B.C would be proud of you brother Yussef...
...bloody outstanding...
...phenomenal...

...personally would love to hear a bit more of Boulez shit...a bit of deconstructing melodies...a bit of incidents...
...that could come with your age guys...
...if ever...
...
...stay safe brothers and thank you very much for this...
...Peace...Love...
He escuchado a cobham, bruford, peart,Alex Acuña,Collins, chick Corea los grandes del jazz pero yussef dayes y su grupo son de una calidad superior.
Top jammer ik was er niet bij 😢
This is such masterfully played music by these great young musicians. Is the bass player Pino Palladino’s son? Because he sends off that vibe playing! Beautiful music!
he actually is :))
@@thedobrthedobr I could tell just watching him play before I dug into the credits! Amazing bass work!
I'm so sooo glad to finally see this performance uploaded to youtube!
As others have mentioned in these comments Yussef's and the gang's music propel a musical experience that indeed does work like balm on our fractured & shattered spirits, I've personally had a year where i was down very low but everytime i put on the Joshua Tree performance i seem to get rekindled with the flow of the universe, realigning me with the energies of life & death in a most natural manner, basicly pulling me back into the essence. Truely magical and alchemical translations of the energy of the "divine" subconscious (atleast, this is how i feel about the experience of listening to their music). Thank you guys you really do mean alot to me personally ❤🔥
Man! Just found this by accident. New fan now!
Sa...mooooth... mellow vibes personified... keep it up, young bloods...vibing and chilling 😎🎶👍✔️💥💯👆🌏🌎🌍
Definitely the best performance of this band...beautifull...❤ as a bass player I ve loved rocco palladino...he was perfectly into the musik...🎉
Yussef é brutal! Seu som é ácido puro.
bommm dimaissss
This is some legit fusion.
Holy smokes. These guys are DOPE!
Gotta love this guys' passion for music. Cheers from Brazil
This was a flashback to seeing them at Yoshi’s in Oakland in ‘23. 10’ away from an astounding collection of musicians and a transformational drummer.
Insane having Venner on sax, dude is an INSANE producer and he's just casually laying down the sexiest lines.
You cant make a band song with this much talent. Damn.
Только ему бы настроить сакс...))
Saw you guys at WOMADelaide on a stifling 40 degree day in March. Was blown away, stand out for me at the festival!
The United Vibrations, is as soothing as the music gets. Not to mention the wild expressionism.
But Palladino and Mansur Brown really brought it home. Cheers to Billy Cobham.
If not for Tom misch I would not know any of this ❤
@ Yesef....come to Maryland*******❤❤❤❤
Fantastic performance.
This is one of SWEETEST most delicate song
So beautiful and soulful. Yussef has brought his unique, subtle voice to his drums solo's and touch. Magnificent.
So elegant
Never in my Wildest Dreams
I admit I was and wasn't ready simultaneously 🎹🪘🥁🌠
Group is sick thru and thru… but these drum chops differentiate from most any other group out there. Please keep creating!
Brilliant!
Wow! Thanks a lot!🙏🇺🇦
Straight eargasming over here
Each and everyone of the band a master in their own right.
Amazing 🏆⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just discovering this band. This is deep music. See also: Dungen
Rocco's tone is so good. He does the swaying back and forth thing just like Jaco, and just like Jaco it's making me dizzy when the camera tries to follow him x)
His bass guitar 🎸 tone sounds similar to the late, great Jacco Pastorious
And that head bob is genetically passed to him by his dad and another GOAT, Pino
I hear you but I hear more of his fathers tone....
One word. Magic.
Angelic and Remarkable!!!!! Thank you!!!!😊😊😊💗💗💗💗
Masterpiece !❤
Tidal Wave is the definition of life is music 🎶
Wow. Ok then. Big thanks to this band for the mind blow. Damn. Was not expecting that
The exquisite sound of the drums... the snare 🤤🤤🤤
Watched Yussef and co perform this at SWX Bristol U.K. how amazing was this and feet away from him in the VIP area
Entire set= fire!
Just smashes it all of the artist. Each instrument. This is my type of music and similar to what I like to produce.
Playing this out of my KRKs and the music sounds goooood! You guys are top notch. Dayes is defo top 5 for me and trust me there is some high class talent in that top 5
Too many favourites on this LP.
you pour the rythm..as rain...nonstoppable..
WOW,
also for your fellow~musicians..WOW,
but U.. drummer~hero...just wow
Didn't read the title, just clicked for a random reggae tune, lol, glad I did.
Truly a dream to see this at North Sea Jazz...💥🖤💥
You guys are so amazing, that distortion part at 7mins is beautiful
Came here for elijah fox and palladino
Some of Venna’s best playing I’ve heard
Tiririca tá mandando demais no groove!
Tiririca hippie
@@kleitonmoog84 Paz e amor, abextado
Very good songs…this is classic rock n roll!! if u ask me.
Ah Yusuf, your music untangles me. I'm grateful
The minute I saw the drummer's hat I knew everything was gonna be alright 🙏🏽🥃🤝🏾
HOW DO I TUNE MY SNRE LIKE THAT AAAAA
use a shallow snare (like a 14x5) preferably wooden, crank it up to the stratosphere, use a wallet or something similar to dampen it and you got a pretty good starting point to get yussef's tone
wow... just wow!
Wow avec le 🎷🥰 la bass claque avec une bonne qualité sonore 🔥 ❤️ Magnifique 😍
So refined & musical ! Total Happinezzzz😊
This made my commute home 100x better!
J’adore. Big up ingé son !
At least there is dynamics and touch in this guys playing!!!
