- We zien de nummers 'Pineapple', 'Take It!' en 'What About Me?' van Snarky Puppy op North Sea Jazz 2023.

We see Snarky Puppy play the songs 'Pineapple', 'Take It!' and 'What About Me?' at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2023 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Everywhere Snarky Puppy goes, the mildly curious become the manically converted; quite a feat when you consider that this Texas collective is not easy to define stylistically. At previous gigs, they mixed up their scarily tight grooves with jazz improvisations, but would just as easily incorporate elements of pop, rock, soul and hip-hop. Their past performances also include concerts with the Metropole Orkest. Of the five Grammy Awards that Snarky Puppy managed to pick up, the latest was for their most recent album Empire Central (2022). On this surprisingly accessible record, 19 musicians come and go within a 90-minute listening - all masterfully held together by bassist and bandleader Michael League.
- Видеоклипы
there is no happier musician than Michael League
I love how Micheal League is enjoying every bar played
the best drummer of this generation.
Fr
@@ponderingmonk525 i do agree, he has this very balanced techniques, dynamics, and sound, you can hear a gospel chop ala Coleman at the same time you'll hear dennis chambers fusion. Wow this man.
My other favourite drummer is Joe Russo, Larnell’s playing reminds me of his quite stylistically in this performance. Two of the greatest jazz fusion musicians! Generational talents
matt gartska
best "jazz" band too
No disrespect intended for all of the other amazing drummers that have played for SP, but man, it just hits different with Larnell! 🔥🔥🔥
Why they gotta hide Larnell in the back and put the white drummer up front tho
@@Rew123 Marcelo Woloski is Argentinian and their percussionist, not a drummer.
@@Rew123 stop using Twitter lol
and you're right 💯😬
@@TomatoestDuck
Well that pretty much sums up everything that's wrong with the world today
One of the greatest bands ever on this planet!
Yep!!
Boring

I love how they all are so excited by the little surprises they each throw in. Especially everyone every time Larnell does anything. Amazing. Passionate and brilliant musicians.
I've known Larnell to be a solid drummer but he is an absolute UNIT on that stage.
Been a musician (born a drummer) since 3 years old, now 41 and I still never stop learning. Snarky Puppy is a healthy dose of reality and music in its finest evolution. Thank you #SNARKY PUPPY KEEP EVOLVING EVERYONE ! 😎✌🏽
Same to all the above. Drumming since 3, 41 now, and very inspired by them!
I'm 41 too😂
Drumming since 3, 41 now, and very inspired by them also!
Best Snarky live sound ever
Larnell Lewis is just something else entirely. The studio version of "What About Me?" is unreal, but he takes it to another level here!
They have it all: great musicians, straight in the pocket, paying attention to each other, and SOO MUCH FUN!
The bassplayer...... awesome!!
thought the same
Every time these guys play I feel like I’m witnessing music history in the making. Damn. And Larnell… one of the ten best drummers of all time, easy.
When musicianship hits that final level! Wow! 😮
Worth every penny to see them live!
Drumming Deity!
I really love this band. The interaction between them during performance. It's real. The combination of talents.
Snarky Puppy. These guys are wizards on their musicianship. 😘🙌🙆♂️
This is the kind of music that is refered to: "If you don't understand Jazz Music, don't watch this!"
I would add, you don't really need to "understand Jazz" to LOVE. these guys. Let it flow!
Snarky fan for life.
I can't think of another bass player who grooves harder than Michael League, and looks like he enjoys every measure of it. Always lifts the spirits to hear people playing at the top of the form.
I can…his name is Joseph Dart.
@@IronyAmI i wouldnt say joe dart grooves harder, they are just different, neverless michael can do much more with less imo
That opening fill...sweet and smooth. Master Larnell
Dude he’s just so incredible…
I saw them live a few months ago. The best concert I’ve ever experienced! Unbelievable!
Saw them open for STEELY DAN a year ago. They were AMAZING.
@ernestogarcia726 I believe I can beat your " The best concert I've ever experienced "
The Miles Davis, concert at The Free Trade Hall, Manchester, England, UK in 1960.
Miles, very first Tour of England.
I'm fully aware you were not alive then.
Anyway, Peace to all.
@@alankirkby465 wow! I believe that must have been an incredibly wonderful experience, too. Thanks for sharing that, and yes, I was not alive back then, haha.
@ernestogarcia726 Thanks for your reply.
Though I'm now in my eighties I still enjoy all genres of music,
especially Steely Dan, tracks: Glamour Profession ( wonderful lyrics) + Aja ( very original lyrics)
Once again thanks for your reply.
Peace to all the Good Folks in The U.S.A.

@@alankirkby465 oh, that's marvelous. Thank you for your reply and the recommendation. I will listen to those tracks today. I am in my 30s but enjoy all genres of music, too, and I love the music from the 70s and 80s. Have a wonderful day, Alan!
I need to see these guys live. Come to Minnesota!
The mix on this video is fantastic, too. All the instruments are nice and clean. Props to the engineer that put it all together.
There is not a better ensemble in the game, PERIOD!!! Whoever mixed this sound did an outstanding job. This is Quincy Jones mixing. Bravo!!
Some of he planets most accomplished musicians all on one stage together. Phenomenal!
Still the best band alive
Just discovered them today. I'm blown away by the immense talent of the band members. Incredible music. Glad I discovered them.

Highly recommend you check out the "We like it here" recordings! And the family dinner volume 2 recordings as well ;)
Is it just me or is the audio/video sync off by just enough to be irritating..?

Snarky is BLAZZZZIIIINNN in this video!!! Larnell is not human…
everyone is one their A GAME!!!! gahleeeeee....
A truly great jazz+ ensemble
That transition at 13:53 is so brutal it desynchronizes the whole video 😀
Absolute train wreck 😅
I wonder if they had a monitoring issue. It was indeed awful.
@@starklassikyou clearly didnt understand what they did there. Listen to it again, you will understand how perfect it was. They dont make mistakes
Michael League! Jizzzz 🤘🏼
Brecker Brothers would be proud! Keeping the vibe alive! Beautiful
How cool would it be if Randy jammed with these cats? ❤
Just... GREAT!
Snarky Puppy, making the sax cool again...
saw these gentlemen at the Dickie's Arena in Fort Worth as a backup to Steely Dan. I thought they were absolutely magnificent, local boys from UNT (University of North Texas). Regrettably, I missed the recording of Empire Central in Dallas's Deep Ellum. We were in Rotterdam during the North Sea Jazz Fest and again missed these outstanding musicians. All I can say is WOW these guys are GREAT!
They are really impressive!
Haven't seen a horn band this tight and with this much energy since Matrix
What a great energy on this concert !! Wow !! 🙏🤘
Michael League & Larnell Lewis: beast mode >>>ON !
These guys are unbelievable!
Saw that at hill’s auditorium on my birthday and got a signed drumhead by the band crazy to watch these after that
What more could be said about this incredibly gorgeous band ? But this video footage is great too. A lot of thanks to the NSJ camera crew 🙏😊
Great band!
Sheeit, Larnell just cookin’, what a monster!
the drummer is the RedBull of rhythm. I'm from Aracaju-Sergipe
Great Tenor solo in that second track. Especially when the other horns start coming in. Around the 10:00 mark. It's just such a melodic solo that kind of surprises you.
totally amazing
WOW!!!!
I’ve never heard a flam rimshot like that !!! Drummers on a different level these days!
I‘ve never heard Mark Lettieri on fire like this before, just crazy.
16 minutes in finally
YEAH BOUEY!!!! JUST CRUSHING IT LIVE.
That first cut is just fabulous ,,,,,,,,,,
Best jazz funk band, everything precise, absolutely masterful 👊🤙💪💪💪
Agree and Dirty Loops too ! There is a hope for the music.
Man!! Larnel is an absolute monster! What a freaking power and precision!
some nice sax chops there sir!
we got 28 seconds and this is how we´re gonna do it - awesome!!!😍
The best in the biz
LA grande classe ! Nouvelle génération de musiciens formidables Américains que j'adore !
Wow, how have I missed this ? Fantastic so impressed Thanks !
These guys have really grown on me!
One of the greatest bands rn😊
HELL YEAH
@2:25 - Loved this solo exchange from Justin and Bill. Such tasteful melodies!
Thank you so much!!!
Larnell Lewis just seems to take them to another level - incredible
Totally agree !!!. But something went wrong at the beginning of "what about me" right? With the tempo or was it just a "joke"?
It was just miscommunication. They person who counted everyone in counted very fast and everyone played at their speed. It sounded rushed so Michael League told everyone to slow down. Then they all went TOO slow so Larnell brought everyone back up to speed. Then they all went too fast. @@SaintMont
I don’t think it was a joke or a mistake. It was Michael League that counted them in at that tempo. I think the intention was for a hard tempo change out of the intro and I thought it was pretty dope!
Also, the tempo of the intro was pretty close to the album version, that verse section is intentionally slowed down. Notice how they intentionally sped back up once they get to the first section with the guitar riff @SaintMont @thedead073
Oh my. Bob Reynolds❤
13:21 - Jeezus... the way they come back in after Larnell's solo (and the way they're absolutely rock solid during his solo). 😎
What have I been missing out on? Quite a lot!!
Uauuuuuuu Beautiful BeautifulUauuuuuuuu
These pockets grooves are awesome ....Nailing it! Cheers!;-)!!
First time im seeing Snarky Puppy without Nate Werth
Super tight!!!!
Great show - thanks Rich!
BEST//VERY BEST
Thabk you!!!
These guys are so "retro" and it's beautiful! Their vibe is reminiscent of Brecker Brothers, and they're all using old-skool wedge monitors on-stage except for Larnell who's on in-ears. ❤
che straordinaria scoperta🖤🍷🍷
Thats how you do a 20 minute set! WOO!
OG Mark!!! Omggggg
PhD level Musicians, the entire ensemble 👌🏿
The Rhythm Section of League and Larnell 🔥🔥
Greetings from Uganda 👊🏿🖤
Great example of the Pups at their best. Oooo, the funk and the improv!! They can play and they love doing it.
Utterly wonderful!!
Outstanding.
Always sounding great...!!!!!!!!!!!!
So amazing 😮
Nothing more to say
Fantastic as ever

Son extraordinarios un placer escucharos
Slick band! Funky.. With Larnell behind the kit It's got extra punch and his chops are insane
That’s was TOO GOOD
Awesome!
Amazing song
All that’s missin’ is Al Jarreau to surf the happy vibe this band commands. I bet he smiles real good towards this particular type of snark on Earth!
This version of pineapple is so much better than the recorded version on the Grammy award winning CD
that first bpm drop on what about me totally caught me off guard. That's what i love about Snarky
The best!!!
Amazing!!
