A lot of people are dismissive of Aikman because he never had the type of stats that are so common these days. His leadership was what mattered most and made the biggest difference. The guy won. Plain and simple.
Plus he was a Cowboy. The same people that tell you Aikman is overrated and shouldn't be in the hall of fame will turn around and tell you Emmitt is overrated and only good because he had a hall of fame quarterback.
After the resounding victory last night on 12/10/23 over the Eagles it is important to remember the massive contribution Troy made to legacy of The Dallas Cowboys. I grew up a fan starting in 1967 and have watched every quarterback that ever donned a jersey. He stands head and shoulders above the rest as the greatest on the field leader the team has ever had. Landry was legendary and innovative but the greatest coach the Dallas Cowboys ever had was Troy's coach, Jimmy Johnson. Yes it did take 14 years and that was too long. God bless you Troy and your beautiful family.
Thanks for sharing as you sound like an awesome fan since 1967 as you have seen nearly all of it. Troy as the the teams greatest field leader and head and shoulders above the rest? Aikman was great and certainly much more, however he is at the shoulder level as the head is Staubach. He takes that title....easily. That will never change in Cowboys history as he was quite unique in so many ways.
How fitting that his first pass thrown and completed was an out pattern based on timing under Nor Turner , this under David Shula. The past usually 15 yds, this was approximately 8 and first game. A true hero
Troy is a winner, on and off the field. Stats can be misleading and this is a prime example. One of the most accurate passers in the history of the league. Troy sacrifice his stats for the betterment of the team. His team won 3 out of 4 Super Bowls. Enough said.
Troy owes his Hall of Fame honor and Super Bowl rings to Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin and one of the greatest O-lines in the history of the NFL. He never came close to leading the NFL in passing yards
To be fair to Troy, throwing the ball up and down the field was never the way Dallas operated until Chan Gailey became the coach in 1998. When Emmitt got there, the immediate game plan was balanced play calling. They ran the ball 30 times a game and usually 27 passes a game. And when you have a RB as efficient as Emmitt Smith, you don't really ever need to run the kind of system that the Oilers had with Warren Moon for example. He didn't have those high passing marks because that's not what was asked of him, and he just wanted to win.
Lol you don't win multiple championships, have the most wins in a decade, a SB mvp, and beat Steve Young and Jerry Rice, Brett farve, and Jim Kelly, Thomas and reid. He had his best games in big games and only wanted to win rings and football games. Not to mention he played when you could hit a qb, no defenseless receiver, received a dozen concussions. Dude was tough and accurate . Fantasy football has made everyone think all that matters is stats. You don't accomplish all of this and keep egos in check with a game manager lol give the man his props. Not to mention he had the leagues all time leading rusher on his team. So naturally his stats took a hit but again he didn't care cause all he cared about was winning.
14 years later, Jimmy Johnson is finally a Hall Of Famer. 😪😢😭 Class of 2020 🏈
And now ring of honor. But Troy remains the premier #8 thanks Troy for all the memories

Aikman is the man! My senior year quote was “Aikman for president in 92”
A lot of people are dismissive of Aikman because he never had the type of stats that are so common these days. His leadership was what mattered most and made the biggest difference. The guy won. Plain and simple.
Yep, and if you look at Bradshaw's stats, he had 212 TD's and 210 interceptions in his career, yet the guy has 4 rings.
Plus he was a Cowboy. The same people that tell you Aikman is overrated and shouldn't be in the hall of fame will turn around and tell you Emmitt is overrated and only good because he had a hall of fame quarterback.

Troy Aikman was a Beast at the QB spot
the dude with the "Troy i missed my anniversary for you" sign was EPIC LMAO
The 90's Cowboys had so many good players.
He didn't mention Alvin Harper.
He left out several notable players.

What does that matter? He made the passes when they were needed and in the clutch. That says it all.

What a clown statement.
