- Operation Whiteout is a fan made cinematic, entirely created by HaloVFX over the last 6 months (ish). We follow a Hell jumper as he drops from a UNSC ship into a mountainous and hazardous zone behind enemy lines in order to carry out his mission with his fellow ODST's.
Sometimes drops don't go as planned....

Honestly, an ODST add on to infinite’s campaign starting similar to this would be incredible. Would fit perfectly into the story prior to Chief arriving on Zeta

This dude needs his own company, he would literally direct a 10/10 movie whether it’s halo or not. Did you see how beautiful the movement was after he fell out the drop pod?
Voice acting was also amazing. You could practically feel the tension as he tried to stay calm while plummeting to the trees below.

i was thinking of how clever this was to make a short animation about an odst who never made it far, a sort of giving honor to those who suffered the same fate in real life, but then i read this ode and suddenly it clicked on my head and made the connection to the hymm that was playing at the very start.

Love the "Hell of a Way to Die" humming in the beginning, it's a nice mix of real life military culture and fiction.

it did feel nice, didn't it?
Which is funny since the U.S. Marines aren't u.s. army airborne, which the ODSTs have more of a connection with. Hell, our poor boy was humming to "Blood on the Risers," nor are the ODSTs UNSC marines.

This is insane, literally gave me chills. In the games and books you see/hear of how tactical and rugged ODSTs are, but this gives you an idea of how easily their missions could turn them into cannon fodder.

Seriously dude. Not even bungie did this for ODST and their budget was in the millions. They had a black fade out and in when they cut thru atmosphere. This was beautiful
@@BrickedUpp ODST was supposed to be the final DLC for Halo 3 among the mythic maps all in one package but Microsoft greediness interfered.

The Halo game I most remember is ODST.
The book I most remember is Cole Protocol. Specifically the ODST parts.
And this is shaping up to be the animation I remember most, alongside 'Day at the Beach'.

if i recall correctly the creator of astartes was actually contacted by game workshop (the developers of warhammer 40k) and offered him a a pretty penny to work for them. i cant recall if he took the offer but i remember a person somewhere posting online saying "our boi did it, he got recognized!" and it was a picture of an email sent by GW offering a job to the guy that made the astartes videos. with any luck this man here will get discovered by MS and offered money to produce an actually GOOD halo series (fuck you paramount and your halo tv series) where we as a community can be proud of our franchise again.

They should actually have parachutes and have a ejection system that would be pretty cool idea.

they probably assume the pod will hold and anything strong enough to rip a trooper out of one would probably make a parachute redundant anyways
only specific loadouts have that getup, and those boots do the old airborne proud
@@LuoSon312_G8 When you say that specific loadouts do you mean a physically separate parachute because all ODST pods have a parachute like system which is what I meant. That being said the likely reason they don't have chutes standard is because AA already kills a pod going terminal velocity and then humanities God of war has to fist fight gravity itself so that the pod can land at all the issue with parachutes that hold a person are they are a big slow target honestly ODSTs are literally peak performance as far as Futurisitc paratroopers go in my opinion
Well I guess we know why they call him "Legs" (if I heard that correctly) now. Can't wait to see more of this, ODSTs have always been my favorite branch of the UNSC ever since their introduction in Halo 2 and I feel like we don't get enough of them.

By what I've heard, that's even consistent with how real military guys get callsigns.
@@HaloVFX I would really dig a short follow-up where we follow legs (probably injured) as he tries to reorientate himself in the forest, an air battle raging above him. Could be incredibly atmospheric, as combat rages all around but a lot of it would still be hidden by the trees, and only bits can be seen when looking straight up
I got attached to these ODST's and then experienced loss under 3 minutes, excellent story telling and execution on all fronts
For 2 mins 45 seconds, I had the same feeling I did as a child watching and playing the original trilogy. Well done bro, seriously well done

@@HaloVFX you are doing gods work my guy, you are bringing back that love that we all had for halo at one point or another in our lives and i couldn't be any more excited even if i tried. halo is my life blood, it was my first game i ever played way back in 2001 and i remember the pure joy i felt even being 5 years old how much i loved halo, years later i rediscovered halo with halo 2 and 3 and that feeling came back like a damn freight train and ever since i have been addicted to everything halo related. its no secret that halo is losing its soul, its very meaning due to lazy writing and corporation greed; and with that its no secret that the wider community is starting to hate and resent the franchise because it almost feels as if the franchise has become one big cash grab meant only to suck us dry and move on to the next halo project to rinse and repeat the cycle. but YOU are bringing that love back, the chills i got watching this were the same as they were back then and i would trust you with every fiber of my being if i heard halo was being left in your hands. what you make and the feelings your work makes us feel is exactly what we need more of and i cannot possibly thank you enough for your service to the community. I look forward to seeing more great things in the future.

I'm watching this for like the 5th time now, it's like a trailer to something I have literally always wanted to see. This would be awesome as a series
Love when a creator makes the ending very dark and just real to grasp how disappointing and unforgiving the cruel world is. Halo should be very dark and unforgiving, but it's never truly felt like that except in cinematics or certain campaign mission (which are honestly only in Halo CE, H2, ODST and Reach).
Now, it IS possible that ODST survived, since he hit trees from not all too high an altitude. But yeah. If that was the end right there, I wouldn't even be mad
@@Sigma-gb9yd Highly unlikely, he was already falling at high velocity, he'd have to bleed off speed to reach terminal velocity, and he fell for about twenty seconds. He probably fell a good four or five thousand feet there. Even hitting trees with advanced armor to avoid getting punctured he's got incredibly poor odds of survival.
@@WB1813 This trooper's survival is unlikely, but there is always the small chance that he somehow survived if he landed on something at an angle and/or the snow could've cushioned it somewhat, or just anything to break his fall for that matter. However, even if he did survive he would have severe injuries which may or may not include broken/shattered bones and internal bleeding depending on his level of luck. By the time he wakes up he is going to want to find a med kit and biofoam immediately.
@@WB1813 A human can survive a fall of terminal velocity. And we don't know how fast that trooper was falling. From the looks of his CO, they had deployed airbrakes by the time he was pulled from his pod. And even then, at terminal velocity, he would have slammed into those trees far faster than he did. He has a much better chance of surviving the fall. He probably won't be walking away from it, yeah, but he has a pretty good chance of not dying.
As for the actual distance from his pod that he fell, I would give maybe a thousand, thousand five hundred. Still fucking nuts and he will probably have several broken limbs, among other things. But death isn't a guarantee. Especially since we have actual, real world records of unarmored and unprepared civilians surviving far deadlier falls

I love that you had him humming Blood on the Risers. The lyrics of that song saying "He ain't gonna jump no more", and the fact he's humming that just before this awful event is so perfect and brutally accurate.
That was shapeshifter the talented voice actor who did those lines. He sent them to me and I was like “damn that’s an excellent choice to put in, I wanted the odst doing something but didn’t know what and shapeshifter delivered :)

Halo is so under-utilised it’s frustrating to me. I just hope I add something cool to the franchise even though it’s not official and not lore-based

That was amazing, and the quality is on par with blur. Would love to see you, Laper Larden and Wernissage collab to make the ODST story DLC a mini series. It would be amazing to see more stories from the battle of zeta halo.
I really love the Sound FX of the Anti-aircraft explosions after they start their drop. It sounded almost like Heartbeats, which made the atmosphere of tension that much more palpable.

I loved the faint humming to the tune of "Blood on the Risers/Gory Gory What a Helluva Way to Die" right at the beginning as a throwback to the OG paratroopers.
This was outstanding. The back and forth before keying into comms with the other ODSTs to stir them up, the frenetic movement of the dogfighting, the handle grab and break... then freefall. Don't even get me started on the one Trooper's pods literally cooking them as it's heat ablative panels fail. Such attention to detail and working in nuanced bits of the ODST experience in such a short span of time. This is a masterpiece, and a masterful display of Helljumpers like we haven't seen since Halo 3: ODST and I love every second of it!

At the start of this, the ODST is humming "Blood on the Risers", an old song about a WW2 paratrooper who falls to his death because the parachute fails, just like this ODST falls to his presumed death because his pod broke open.

It’s amazing how well you managed to capture the camaraderie and excitement many paratroopers feel before their jump. Then it all goes to shit in an instant after the incoming fire starts hitting all around them. So many instances of this in real life and you managed to make it super realistic in an animation about a video game. Such an amazing job.
