To be fair that has to be pretty inspiring in a way. The fact that they all went through that together yet they made it out while a Spartan didn't. That speaks loads to what Halo is all about especially ODST.
I think ODST proved that some soldiers have the heart and the skill, theyrejust not genetical experiments who can soak up bullets.

This should've been a miniseries, a squad of ODSTs and a Spartan working together through a few missions, growing, learning, accepting one another.

This part really articulates how close the ODST’s and spartan had grown. These three ODST quite literally threw all their weight to take down this chieftain who was carrying a gravity hammer. Most of the lore states how dangerous it was to come near one let alone TACKLE a user. These ODSTs were willing to give their own lives to protect the spartan
What I find funny is this is more or less the exact tactic the ODSTs use in the game when Romeo gets injured. I like to imagine some ODST squad tried it first, was shocked it worked, and a manual was made

Step 1: hook the legs, preferably one ODST per
Step 2: wrap the waist, multiple ODSTs advised
Step 3: pull the legs, shove the waist until enemy finds themselves on their back

I love how despite a brief union the Spartan Cal-141 set a new everlasting example of who they really are to their rivals. A totally unforced, likely unbeknownst, shattering of prejudices, ill-will, doubts, and slander. She carried the mission forward while saving a fellow soldier's life thrice throughout enemy territory with no hope of re-enforcements. Yet, although her self-sacrifice was militarily vetted, the meaning of her death seems as though it is still being processed by O'Brien. His demeanor post-mission suggests he has a changed mindset over what he is actually capable of and what it truly takes to be an elite soldier in an intergalactice conflict: focus to no end and not just with aim. On a personal level her self-sacrifice is only as worth while as O'Brien and fellow squadmates are changed and truly understand that privilege and ego has no place in Spartan life. The only hint that O'Brien finally understands just how dire and unanswerable the situation is for average, non-augmented humans and that his prejudice of Spartans was completely unfounded is his ambivalence over the foolishness of the interjecting Private and went on mentally reflecting over his own physical reflection. Spartans are not just Super-Soldiers they have the coded character moralisms of idealized chivalrous Knights or Honourable Samurai, in the flesh. The real deal. Possibly from their warped childhoods, of course, but nonetheless totally admirable on their end. This episode is also beautifully illustrated and animated, the Covenant troops were not merely deranged monsters, I even felt slight remorse for the alarmed grunt killed after the tree branch was trampled. The way the Elites reacted from the assasination was golden too. I can go on and on

Judging on the thwack from the gravity hammer they were lucky her head was in one piece but honestly based on how little blood and the no obvious signs of deformity wound might've been survivable except head wounds are often hard to tell and the damage could've caused swelling of the brain or something
i mean generally spartans can take a lot more damage and not show it , feel it, or notice it
and half the time its a lot worse then it seems
ie kelly whose organs were basically being kept in by her armor...
also their skeletons are a lot more durable than a normal human
never mind the armor
however regardless it was most like the concussive force that past tensed her
Spartans are incredibly durable, allowing them to continue pushing even when death has already claimed them. One Spartan fought a battle despite his organs being melted by all of the plasma. He only died once the fight was over
I'm pretty sure the reason they didn't show the escape from the planet is because it would have included the ODSTs dragging her lifeless corpse to extraction because people (or atleast Spartans) can be revived if the body and brain is intact.
She likely couldve lived if she received instant medical attention, but attempting to transport a injured spartan-II in armor is a futile endeavor. Simply impossible. No equipment & no land based vehicles (a warthog would’ve been perfect, no doubt in my mind they have the combined physical strength to lift her inside one).

at least parts of it, like 1337 and other spartans being able to throw a punch fast enough to create air trails.
5:42 I always think of this when I walk through water while playing the game
I mean it makes sense. Think about, what if Navy SEALS and CAG suddenly got side stepped by a new type of Super Soldier, twice as strong, fast, better gear, higher reflexes and no matter how hard they train, they would still fall short to them.
Also O'Brian would still have missed, flight time for 2 miles, wind, correolis effect, drop and elevation.
They would likely be the first Integrated into such for special testing unless there are Genetic Marker requirements.
They have fancy computers in the scope that can take care of that.
I'm pretty sure real life snipers in the military are taught to compensate for wind, corriolis effect, drop and elevation also I'm pretty sure in real life there have been multiplie confirmed kills over distances which were further than 2 miles and that's without 2500 future tech sniper rifles
The Sniper Rifle uses hitscan. There is no projectile, the game just instantly damages whatever you were aiming the gun at when you pulled the trigger.

O'brian acting like nearly every Spartan-II doesn't have 20-30 years of experience on them...
The only thing that never sat right with me about this particular piece, aside from them not covering their six during the acutal sniping, is the fact Checkman was bascially left for dead. I understand he was thrown heavily off course, but surely his pod survived entry. Plus, per Halo 3 ODST, we know the pods have some kind of controllable thrusters. You'd figure he'd be able to perform some kind of course correction, land closer to the squad and hail them via radio. Later linking back up with them closer to their objective.
I will agree with you on no one watching their 6, but there have been a couple examples of the drop pods becoming a death trap if they fall in any direction they’re not supposed to. During the ODST drops in combat evolved, there was one described having the same thing happen, and the CO severed the comm link because listening to people die is bad for morale.

You are not.
I honestly didn't know about this at all but was delighted when I saw this.
God damn. Watching this video (after I just watched "The Babysitter" and "Prototype") make me want to relive the moment I first played Halo Reach. Yes, I know, I know. There's Halo 2, Halo 3, for some people even 4 and 5. But Reach? Fuck me, that was the game that hooked me up since I first played it on the XBox 360 of my brother (Co-Op, of course). It's one of the best FPS I ever played (with Titan Fall 2). And oh boy, even if I wasn't happy with the MP-start of Infinite, you can't believe how happy I was after I realized that I can achieve the armor of fucking Emile. That Spartan just burned into my brain. Badass design, badass character. I really hope that 343 will get what we want. Like, Infinite isn't bad. But I want a Halo that gives me the same feeling Reach did. Can't be that hard, can it?
Bro forgot combat evolved
Also I think infinites open world is the closest you can get to this by playing a current halo game.
@@Backfisch5927 I loved CE while I played, but I grew up with Reach. So that's my benchmark. I grew up with Reach, 'twas the first Halo I ever played.
i started watching this almost everynight the past couple weeks
I hope Cortez and O'Brien also joined the SPARTAN-IV program.
Probably would get in
Makes you wonder why Cal is the only Spartan assigned normally for high value missions like this they send at least 2 Spartans like that one animation where 2 Spartans (forgot their names) were sent to destroy a covenant depot and they went out with a bang
I'll assume that Cal was the only Spartan available and that the ODST team was the only one with a good marksman
those were spartan 3s they aren't really as important as spartan 2s so usually more of them are sent
@@sambecomessleepdeprived yep. headhunters are specifically sent on suicide missions, and are given a partner to help even the odds, considering it's typically a job for at least 2 armies of marines, they're outnumbered 10,000 to 1, and much of it can't really be done alone.
You are a literal god for this i shall sub
I would watch an entire series in this style, it's so good
Spartans never die, they just go missing in action
That's the reason I don't like this episode that much. It goes against the lore of the games and the books. They hid all spartan deaths behind MIA and WIA, to prevent the loss of morale that would occur if the general population learned the "super soldiers" could die.
@@prollins6443 1337 is best Spartan
Got Halo Legends on dvd for $5. Definately a keeper, good miniseries of halo stories
Bought it new back then, definitely money well spent, alongside the old books and all the games up to Reach.
I'm less impressed by everything since, the last three games in particular have had a lot of letdowns...
@@UNSCPILOTinfinite was 20% banger ngl
To this day still waiting for bungie now 343 to make campaigns out of the books and these shorts of halo legends
probs the best ep ever
If they wanted to give us a show they should've just stuck with this except more in chronological order instead of random stories. Even if they did it that way it beats the live version anyday.
The best episode
Crazy because this ship was probably ordered that this Spartan never died, only they know.
Every other trooper in the UNSC outside this ship thinks they are alive or MIA.
That snipe was 👌
Spartans never die, they're just missing in action
Right
So is that the same Dutch from halo 3 ODST
Yes
yés
It's the same Obrien that was on the pillar of autumn with chief too btw
I love this Halo Anime so much!!
I remember watching this my babysitter before.
The musical composition of halo makes it so much what it is
