I purchased a 2006 Magnum R/T AWD with 110K mi. for the “wife.” We love the styling of the car and couldn’t pass it up. I want to update the heads to prevent the dreaded seat drop. Personally know 3 people that it happened to. While the heads are off I want to replace cam, lifters and springs. Maybe the SLP exhaust that you put on the 300. Looked into the SRT headers you suggested in the last video but I think the port shape is different. Looking aftermarket very limited due to AWD. Thinking programmer also to make the NAG1 shift firmer. This is a daily driver and we tow a 2800 lbs. travel trailer with it. I know if I can’t get the exhaust out the cam is probably a waste. Any thoughts? I know you’re a busy man, good luck with the channel and keep the videos coming.
Absolutely appreciate you watching Jim! I definitely think it's a good plan to update the heads on that model, and it's a great time to update the cam/lifters/springs as well- I do know the options are a little more limited for the AWD models, much less room to work with unfortunately. For me, especially if you're thinking of putting an aftermarket exhaust on the car, look into getting rid of the MDS system. You will already be doing lifters anyway, may as well ditch the solenoids and turn the system off with a tuner, simply because with an aftermarket exhaust the drone at hwy speeds when it drops into 4-cyl mode is truly terrible. 👍
Great series! I did a similar upgrade to my 2012 RT Manual Challenger except I did not do a CAM swap, but I did have the SRT Headers and included the high-flow CATs from a donor car, so I went ahead and installed a Corsa Cat-Back exhaust for the SRT so now I am running the 2.75" diameter exaust. Doing so required a custom tune due to the positions of the O2 sensors, so using the Diablo Tuner I reached out to Hemi Feaver and had them create a custom tune. To me, the custom tune was the key to unlocking the power gains from the upgrades. I will be honest, a CAM swap is on my bucket list but I have been hesitant due to fear of the unknown lol, but your videos gave a good example of what to expect and great pointers so now I do not feel a bit more confident. It looks like it was not a quick afternoon job, but more like a weekend or two. Thank you!
Thank you very much for the videos! I have a 2017 Rt, and putting a cam on a budget was my next plan. I hope you got it tuned decently so we can know the exact gains.
Great video series, and an excellent job on that Challenger! You can turn up the rev limiter/shift points with the i3 tuner, did that with mine on our Chrysler. I recommend installing a 180 thermostat and reset your fan temps using advanced tune mode accordingly. It also allows you to quicken up your throttle response up to 20% which does make a difference. The cooler operating temp won't set any DTC's and it will run better, both my Mopars benefited from this mod. You can also shut off the dreaded MDS system on automatic cars which is a huge improvement in itself. I found that the i3 Diablosport tuner was not as user friendly, had to call them several times to get things set up properly on the unit. Works otherwise well now that I learned all its quirks. Happy motoring!

I know that you can also adjust the electronic throttle response, with that tuner as it can help if you need the response in a hurry to avoid an accident. I would be interested to know if you've tried it.
Looking at some right now. Tempted to stay 6 speed so much I dont mind 5.7/ not having 6.1 srt. Been eyeing those cuda conversions. Definitely a car I could see keeping forever.
Just did this modification, 6.4 mds, long tube headers, dynotuned 400.5 horsepower at the wheels. Now for getting the performance out of it, get at least 3.73 gears, and at least a 3200 stall, 3800 better. Will post 1/4 mile times asap. Working out the shift points. But so far car has done 1.75 60 ft with air density at 2900
I can not thank you enough for making this series because I own the Burgundy Version of that car and was wondering what some mods would do. I have K&N Air Filter, Cat back Exhaust, Diablo 93 Tune but wanted a few more suggestions and you hit the the spot. Thanks a ton.
Man!!! you do the stuff really well and speak much better. Fluently, precise and effectively. Could easily open a mechanic school and excel at it. In last 2 days I binge watched almost all your videos. I don't hang around RUclips much, maybe few minutes here and there. Thank you so much for the efforts. I have a dilemma and maybe you could assist. I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L. Its parked for 10 months now due to camshaft issue (am the 5% unlucky ones). Couldn't afford the 6000 USD quote from the workshop. Am expecting to start work in next couple of weeks hopefully. And maybe will be DIY following your videos instruction. Should I go with 6.4 camshaft as you used in your charger or got for the stock version? After watching your videos and getting inspired by it I am inclined towards 6.4L.
Appreciate your support! For your question: if you're not planning on doing many other mods, I'd be inclined to stick with a stock cam, since if you do upgrade to the 6.4 you'll need a tune, and it's best to go that route if you've got other supporting mods as well. 👍
I did pretty much what you have done to my 10 Challenger minus the cam change. With the Diablo 93 tune and some timing tweaks I was able to set a record of 154 mph at the Texas Mile.
NICE 👍🏻 challenger sounds great ... love the step by step ... I have a (hp) tune on my 09 charger made a huge difference.. I have a guy that tuned it for me from a laptop 👨💻... I have a stock 5.7 cam but im running high 12’s with slicks and 306 srt gears ⚙️ I’m definitely putting the same cam in my set up 😁thanks for the great step by step videos 👍🏻👍🏻
You have me Jones'ing for a cam swap now. Doesn't seem too difficult, or expensive. I have a 2014 R/T with 69K miles. I've had a complete SRT8 exhaust (headers to tips) for several years now, which I got for free from my sons friend...who just wanted the thing out of his garage after doing a headers-back complete exhaust upgrade on his '14 SRT8 Challenger. I've just been holding off on installing the thing, to do it in conjunction with more power adders. A 392 cam swap may be the ticket here!! My end goal is to throw a ProCharger on it, as well, but only after better airflow is achieved. "Air in" needs an "air out" solution first. Thanks for the video series!
@@ReignitedAuto You mentioned you're 20 minutes from Texas Speed, by the airport in Georgetown...and ~40 minutes from Killeen. You have to be somewhere near my old stomping grounds! I lived in the Cedar Park/Leander area.

Love the whole series could not put the videos down and I had to watch them back to back. Curious what you thought you got power wise out of it after the cam build was complete?
Thanks Shane! I'm guessing probably around 40hp gain for everything. Hoping to get a chance to dyno the car in another month or so. Stay tuned for updates on that.
@@ReignitedAuto might be a tough question to answer, but from your experience, is there anything in particular about that year charger that I should look out for or pay extra attention to?
My 5.7 didn’t like the diablo 93 tune at WOT (got some knock). There are some good email hemi tuners out there if you cant find a local shop. In the end though a dyno tune by a hemi specialist is probably a good idea. Adding 6-8 psi from a SC makes the 5.7 the perfect ripper.
Great video .. nice to get glimpse in to that Diablo tuner def goin with hp tuners they're really changing the game . Also thinking if u get a remote tune done might save on time n money some are really good n get it dialed in .
yeah you need to have it custom tuned by hemi fever at the very least. My truck would hardly run on the stock tune, better on diablo, light years ahead custom tuned.
It’s funny, even before the end of the video I was thinking of how great the 2010-2015 Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers were. Yes, the latest models of each car put those years to shame but those earlier years were the sweet spot in my opinion. I love my 2011 Camaro that I bought over five years ago and have had no burning desire to upgrade. Great video…but go back to the TT wheels!
Use the 91 tune on the Diablo. I noticed that the 91 felt better than the 93 tune on my Ram 1500. I think having 93 octane on the 91 tune is better because you should lose timeing to spark knock
Great videos,I def subbed. And I just got a 16 scat a couple months ago with manual and a whipple. Absolutley worth the money! Only thing for me is I could boost it above 8 but im thinking im gonna have to upgrade some things first, like a drive shaft, clutch?, etc. Not sure where to start, going down the rabbit hole
That's got to be an awesome ride! Like you mentioned, now if you want to go even faster it gets exponentially more expensive. I'd be thinking about a clutch upgrade for sure, but as far as engine mods, you're probably looking a piston/rod upgrade as well to run additional boost. 👍
So enjoyed your videos as I've watched several now of your work on the 5.7. I 100% agree with you as the owner of a second Scatpack who only momentarily considered the Hellcat you are absolutely correct.. the hellcat is a track car the Scatpack you can drive and have a lot of fun still keep your license... Wanna see what u do 2 up Scat...looks like u r if u have not already..
Does the Diablo sport tuner have a data logger included?. I would totally be doing the custom tune route on that car. Especially if I was planning to keep it. You could log data and read the fuel mixtures and make adjustments without using a Dyno. Set the ignition timing to about 34 before tdc and run the high octane fuel.
liked the series but without dyno or numbers, im bummed out and let down a bit....buy this do that and itll be better...i agree , would just like to know by how much?
I don't think mopar uses wideband o2 sensors, so it's possible that the midrange punch was artificially lean on whatever tune was on it. Granted the ECU should learn the VE corrections fairly quickly though. But the other thing is I bet that the tune that was on it had more pedal manipulation in it. Meaning that old tune, 70% throttle request was actually commanding 100%, whereas the canned tune might have been more stockish where for example 70% = 90%. Just a few ideas that immediately came to my head. Great video as always and it looks like a really nice car. Not sure if y'all have e85 out there, but that could give you even more timing than the 93 tune.
Tucker I think you're on the money as far as the electronic throttle sensitivity, it really feels more linear with the tune the car came with. E85 is a whole nother bag since I'd have to change fuel lines, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump and complete new tune. It has its benefits, but for a mild build like this it's too much complexity for me.
You need to put the 6.4 intake on it now, that I understand really wakes up the 5.7, and with the 6.4 cam you put in it, wow it should really go. Then Jay Greene is the Mopor Man with tunes. Check him out.
Awesome video. Thank you for this. I put it in my favorites, saved and subscribed. I find it funny cyl 7 had a failed lifter. Which is the only reason i found your video. My 14 ram 1500 5.7 has a failed lifter, misfire and loud tick on Cyl 7. If i may ask for some advice, my truck IS MDS, can i put the 6.4 MDS cam, in my 5.7? Also, where is your suggested place to order the parts from? Thank you. I will be reviewing this series a ot while i fix this mopar fail.
Yep, you can absolutely put the MDS 6.4 cam in your truck and retain the MDS system. As far as parts, I have to say I order everything through my local Dodge dealer, but only because I have a good relationship with them and get a good price.
@@ReignitedAuto thank you for the reply. I saw your other videos and Texas speed & performance had the mds delete kit. I ordered that kit, with the hellcat lifters. And oddity though, the roller bearings on the lifter was not damaged, but the internals were locked and unable to compress, even under the stress of a vice. Could this have been a failure of the mds solenoid???
@@ReignitedAuto they were depressed when i took it out. And it looked as if the cap, where the push rod goes was protruding out, i set it next to another mds lifter, and looks like it had exploded.
I had installed the Diablo on my 2016 challenger rt manual and had crazy rev hang when shifting. Called Diablo for help, they said to play with the parameters. Eventually the rev hang went away but comes back if I try to update the tune.
I know this is an older video and I don't know if you'll see this but add a 392 active intake manifold run by an MSD timer. That was the single most noticeable mod I did.
I use Diablo for turn off MDS only under 87 octane performance as tuner recommend. Take it slow find the engine noise likely exhaust manifold surface not smooth is warped what cause broken exhaust bolts. Next take your fan belt off the engine before starting the engine. Check engine noise location nearly timing chain tensioner or water pump between fan clutch. Valve lifters not the problem if your engine running great at the top of engine. Likely these Hemi engine needs 5W30 well maintain 3 months oil change or 3000 miles before 3 months. There is a new 0W40 but running a freezing test for winter and summer before use it in the hemi.
@@robertm7957 appreciate the info. I don't have an issue. I just want to do the 392 cam swap. Thinking of doing intake as well. I've been eyeing the Diablo, but getting thought on it before buying. I'm a tech of 25 years. Big fan of the hemi engines. Made a lot of money with cam and exhaust manifold bolt repairs. Do you go to MoParty?
I noticed the tail light scheme is a little different than my 2010 RT Challenger. Are the running lights that are normally on either side of the center Dodge reverse light blacked out in some way? Maybe it's just an optical illusion lol
That's the goal. I know some people just won't feel comfortable no matter what doing these upgrades, and I can help them with that. But if I can inspire more people to work on their own vehicles then that makes me happy.
Did you ever get this on a dyno for a tune and to get hard numbers on what, if any, hp/torque increases were made? I know you're busy but I'd really like to know the best way to tune.
Love the channel, just received an '09 Charger R/T (5.7 Eagle) as a birthday present and was told I had a 3k budget for mods. I'm looking for low end power, if you (or any other persons) could offer which ones to start with, it'd be really helpful. My thoughts were shorty headers, Predator tune, CAI, and a freer flowing exhaust. She's bone stock right now.
Stupid question maybe but I have an old 07 Aspen 5.7 , what benefits would a cam swap have? I rebuilt it at 170k miles and know this engine in and out and enjoy working on it. I’m not in it for speed but would enjoy to unleash some deeper tone to such a nice power plant
Honestly for you I would probably just focus on an aftermarket exhaust system. A cam swap will generally only yield higher gains at high RPM, which isn't really where an Aspen would be very often. I'm not sure if there's any Hemi cams out there that will improve midrange torque, but chances are if you go to one of the commonly available hemi cams that you'll lose some of that midrange. 👍

Thank you I was on the fence about doing an upgrade on my 2012 challenger R/T and I think I will do the upgrade now.
Do it! 💪
This was a good series, appreciate the info and putting this out 👊
I know that you can also adjust the electronic throttle response, with that tuner as it can help if you need the response in a hurry to avoid an accident. I would be interested to know if you've tried it.
If you do consider on keeping it. A couple mods I recommend is swapping the intake manifold to the 6.1 and a LSD out of an SRT.
It's got the LSD since it's a manual, check out the twin tire tracks at the end! I literally haven't done a burnout in like 20 years 😂
@@ReignitedAuto I didn't know they came with one. But does it have the same gears as an SRT though?
@@user-yk5xk5re3p they are shorter than automatic for sure, not positive they are the same though.
Look or satera tuning or tapped performance both are in tx . Best in the mopar business tuning wise
I'll check 'em out 👍
this has been a great project!
Thanks man, hope you enjoy the next one!
I think that scat pack was the one that got away. Lol my story is similar..however it was a SRT8 6.1 manual trans.
Also a very cool car!
Looking at some right now. Tempted to stay 6 speed so much I dont mind 5.7/ not having 6.1 srt. Been eyeing those cuda conversions. Definitely a car I could see keeping forever.
Just picked up a scatpack exhaust for my preeagle though haha
Just did this modification, 6.4 mds, long tube headers, dynotuned 400.5 horsepower at the wheels. Now for getting the performance out of it, get at least 3.73 gears, and at least a 3200 stall, 3800 better. Will post 1/4 mile times asap. Working out the shift points. But so far car has done 1.75 60 ft with air density at 2900
I am really surprised they did not put a lower temp thermostat in and adjusted the fan settings with the tuner. helps a lot.
I can not thank you enough for making this series because I own the Burgundy Version of that car and was wondering what some mods would do. I have K&N Air Filter, Cat back Exhaust, Diablo 93 Tune but wanted a few more suggestions and you hit the the spot. Thanks a ton.
Appreciate you watching!
Hemi. Fever. Hemi. Fever. Sean knows what he's doin
Excellent series. Keep her.
This is awesome haha. Much needed on the tube
Thanks Jorge I appreciate it!
Great content! New subscriber here. I have a 2015 5.7 Ram 1500. I think your videos will help me in many aspects.
Very cool, thank you for watching!
Man!!! you do the stuff really well and speak much better.
Very Nice! 💪
@@ReignitedAuto
Search my name and you can see the run at the Mile.
Dang! That's pretty good numbers man! Good work 💪
Put a Pedal Commander on. That should help with the lag your mentioning
I'll look into it!
Appreciate it man! This is definitely something the average guy can handle, just take your time and do all the steps and you're good to go 👍
@@ReignitedAuto You mentioned you're 20 minutes from Texas Speed, by the airport in Georgetown...and ~40 minutes from Killeen. You have to be somewhere near my old stomping grounds! I lived in the Cedar Park/Leander area.

Love this build. I'm looking to do something similar. 5.7 block stroker crank to 6.4 and the 6.4 cam for my Ram 1500. Building my shop first. Looking forward to more HEMI builds.
Shop projects are the best projects! Thanks for watching Richard! 👍
Love the whole series could not put the videos down and I had to watch them back to back. Curious what you thought you got power wise out of it after the cam build was complete?
Thanks Shane! I'm guessing probably around 40hp gain for everything. Hoping to get a chance to dyno the car in another month or so. Stay tuned for updates on that.
sounds so good for a 5.7!! i wanna do my '12 charger rt up like this
You can do it! 💪
@@ReignitedAuto might be a tough question to answer, but from your experience, is there anything in particular about that year charger that I should look out for or pay extra attention to?
@@xusername357 nothing specific behind the normal potential lifter issue, everything else is pretty solid.
@@ReignitedAuto right on. Thanks so much man!
I use Curt Dusteroff for all my tuning. Highly suggest him. He remote tunes.
very useful series!
Thanks for watching Peter!
Adding 6-8PSI to anything makes it better, boost the world! 😂
Keep it!!! Really like your videos !!
Appreciate it man, thank you for your support!
Great video .. nice to get glimpse in to that Diablo tuner def goin with hp tuners they're really changing the game . Also thinking if u get a remote tune done might save on time n money some are really good n get it dialed in .
Thanks Mike!
Maybe a 6.1l intake and a hemi fever tune?
On to the next one. Car turned out nice.
Appreciate you watching Jeff!
yeah you need to have it custom tuned by hemi fever at the very least.
Great series 👍
Use the 91 tune on the Diablo. I noticed that the 91 felt better than the 93 tune on my Ram 1500. I think having 93 octane on the 91 tune is better because you should lose timeing to spark knock
Interesting, I will probably give that a try 👍
Thanks man for this!
Appreciate you watching!
Did you ever get a T2 diablosport? You can tune the throttle pedal and turn up the rpms
Well done! Congrats on the built. Happy you like it to even be tempted to keep it. See ypu friday for some Q & A holefully. Cheers 👌🤙👍
It's still the plan currently, I'll make a post tomorrow on RUclips if it's going to happen! 👍
Nice work bro
Thanks for watching!
Gotta take that Limiter off. Take that fuse out so the Chally can re-learn your driving habits. She will purrrrr like a kitten
What fuse you mean
Turned out awesome man! Love the vids
Thank you so much! Appreciate you watching 👍
I am enjoying the content ..good job
Thanks Carl! Hope you enjoy the C10 content coming up!
what're the power changes brother? dyno???
edit: subbed and liked, great series
So enjoyed your videos as I've watched several now of your work on the 5.7.
I 100% agree with you as the owner of a second Scatpack who only momentarily considered the Hellcat you are absolutely correct.. the hellcat is a track car the Scatpack you can drive and have a lot of fun still keep your license...
Wanna see what u do 2 up Scat...looks like u r if u have not already..
This us an outstanding series!!! Did you ever consider changing the intake manifold to a 6.4 or maybe the Edlebrock?
I would love to try the 6.4 intake back to back with the stock one and see just how much of a difference there really is!
@@ReignitedAuto I've heard it makes a difference. I'm wondering how the Edlebrock intake would do also?
Hemifever tuning
OST TUNING
Are you saying hemi fever isn’t good?
Does the Diablo sport tuner have a data logger included?. I would totally be doing the custom tune route on that car. Especially if I was planning to keep it. You could log data and read the fuel mixtures and make adjustments without using a Dyno. Set the ignition timing to about 34 before tdc and run the high octane fuel.
How many horse power did that cam add to the challenger? Awesome videos!!!
liked the series but without dyno or numbers, im bummed out and let down a bit....buy this do that and itll be better...i agree , would just like to know by how much?
She Looks Nice !!
Thanks for watching Lou!
My 11 rt has a rev limiter at about 5600 rpm, shuts the motor down like completely.
That's sure what it feels like 😂
I don't think mopar uses wideband o2 sensors, so it's possible that the midrange punch was artificially lean on whatever tune was on it.
Ive seen dyno videos where the Diablo sport tuner lost power
Dyno pulls and price list please! Subed awesome content
You need to put the 6.4 intake on it now, that I understand really wakes up the 5.7, and with the 6.4 cam you put in it, wow it should really go. Then Jay Greene is the Mopor Man with tunes. Check him out.
What were the dyno numbers? I couldn’t find the video
@@jeremysimpson5155 did you depress the pins on the side of the lifter before trying to compress it?
@@ReignitedAuto they were depressed when i took it out. And it looked as if the cap, where the push rod goes was protruding out, i set it next to another mds lifter, and looks like it had exploded.
@@ReignitedAuto Also, NO cam damage! i caught it in time.
Hi I’m interested in your solution for the midpipes and SRT manifolds, how did you fit them up? Thanks for the content.
Takes a tank or two of 93 before it kicks in. Set rev limiter to 6300 might like.
I had installed the Diablo on my 2016 challenger rt manual and had crazy rev hang when shifting. Called Diablo for help, they said to play with the parameters. Eventually the rev hang went away but comes back if I try to update the tune.
You're the second person who has mentioned that, thanks for the info I appreciate it! 👍
how many hours did it take for the full build approximately , taking out the filming time?
I know this is an older video and I don't know if you'll see this but add a 392 active intake manifold run by an MSD timer. That was the single most noticeable mod I did.
Is it possible to convert an automatic hemi challenger to a manual 🤔? Would make a great video series of how to.
Enjoyed the series very much. Can you disable MDS with that Diablo tuner?
Did you ever go in and raise the limiter with the diablo and raise the pedal response thru diablo tuner?
I noticed the tail light scheme is a little different than my 2010 RT Challenger. Are the running lights that are normally on either side of the center Dodge reverse light blacked out in some way? Maybe it's just an optical illusion lol
Probably so, as I don't think the tail lights are different from stock?
The computer is pulling timing and fuel because it is probably sensing some knock due to the tune not being for that cam.
Good possibility!
very informative, gives confidence to diy'ers looking to do these upgrades.
That's the goal. I know some people just won't feel comfortable no matter what doing these upgrades, and I can help them with that. But if I can inspire more people to work on their own vehicles then that makes me happy.
Does the 6.4 camshaft affect fuel mileage greatly? Asking for us in California with $5 a gallon gas
Did you ever get this on a dyno for a tune and to get hard numbers on what, if any, hp/torque increases were made? I know you're busy but I'd really like to know the best way to tune.
Can you use universal braided rear hoses on a 4 piston Brembo upgrade?
So do you have to tune for the 6.4 cam? I'm about to do this after watching this
Love the channel, just received an '09 Charger R/T (5.7 Eagle) as a birthday present and was told I had a 3k budget for mods. I'm looking for low end power, if you (or any other persons) could offer which ones to start with, it'd be really helpful. My thoughts were shorty headers, Predator tune, CAI, and a freer flowing exhaust. She's bone stock right now.
Spend 3k on maintenance 1st - just my 2 cents
@@ReignitedAuto much appreciated. Good, I’m not looking forward to another tear down; easy or not.
Questions what do you think of a 6.4 cam in a 6.1. Thing what i can do with my 6.1
Unfortunately the 6.4 cam wont fit your engine, they changed the block in 2009 to accommodate VVT and the front cam journal is larger so it won't fit.
