Unless your on a race track everyday.....nothing wrong with the 5.7!
Very true 🤜🔥🔥
Does the rt get the same type of kick like a scat?
@@1KBEENDRAGGIN not really, imo. The torque makes a pretty noticeable difference to me.
Nothing wrong with more power also😉
Liljules 04 nope. Not at all.
I love my rt the only difference is I ain't racing lmfao I'm only going to the store and back and trust me its fast enough for that lmfao
Facts😂
ok me asf, I’m definitely getting an rt 😂
😂😂 this crack me up
Lmaooooo I’m crying 😭
@@nancyv1086 women shouldnt drive fast cars like that for safety reason
Sweet video! I went with the 5.7 because it's my first v8 and I didn't want to break the bank. Now that I have this thing I'm hooked and will definitely look into some mods for it. I plan to keep my 5.7 as well because its an underdog. I feel with the right amount of love and care you can really maximize the potential it has.
Honest to god you went with the better option due to the engine. The 6.4 doesn’t like boost but the 5.7 you could boost all day. I’ve seen some nasty procharged and twin turbo RTs and theyre bonkers. I’d get one over a scat pack just for the mod ability alone
Yeah they'll fly I have one too
I’m with R/T Life. I’ve done every bolt on (depending on your definition of bolt on) and did the converter. With that, I am running very close to stock Scat times. 3.6 0-60 and 11.8 in the 1/4 mile. My next mod is ported heads and the suspension which should push me over the edge. Yes, the non forced induction route is expensive but it’s not about money for most of us 5.7 molders. It’s about taking the 5.7 to its limits (read sleeper so to speak). Yes, with the costs of the mods you could just get a Scat but personally, I have had an awesome time modding my 5.7 over the last 3+ years. Built vs bought. It’s a personal preference and decision. Enjoyed the video keep the great content coming.
Great frame of reference my friend
LOLOLOLOL HAHAHAHAHA stock scats absolutely ARE NOT sub 12 second cars.....NO.......WAY lololol....unless you're talking with DRs then yes cuz i believe you're still stock even with DRs
Well said. I have a Challenger R/T and wanted just wanted a little edge over stock. A few tweaks and it’s what I want. 356 and 395 tq to the wheels mates to a 6m/Barton shifter. Perfection for me.
Shoot you running 11.8 in 1/4 mile you beating most stock Scatpacks easily. Most of them run mid to low 12's at best trapping up to 115-116. Lol i ran 11.8 stock in my C7 Z51 A8 so your R/T jumped up pretty good
I bolted on a supercharger on my 5.7. 507hp, manual, loud and lots of fun. I don't race or track, just in it for the fun of it.
After doing every bolt on, cam, long tubes, etc. I have to say - in order to get to 392 power level you need either stroker or forced air. The displacement difference is big. Love my R/T though - wouldn't have done it any other way. Great video man & much respect to all mopars out there.
BTW I'm just referring to HP - I've seen 5.7L builds with converters, higher gears etc. making far less power than a 392 but putting up similar 1/4 mile times.
Boost it, DONE. Mine made +800 HP per 1/4 mile time and 1/4 mile MPH @ TX2K. Want to go fast just boost it. After all my upgrades 3 things stand out. Ported intake, E85, and BOOST. Have BMason design you a cam and port your intake and then put together a budget turbo set up. Although mine is a built engine i did over 600 on the stock bottom end without even ring gap. Its all like the LS stuff to my opinion. Just boost it and be done. If you want to make big power, forged pistons and rods and stud it and be done. Yes more expensive than a 6.4 but makes big reliable lower!
BTW, love both yalls channels and i enjoy them. Just my 2 cents on a 5.7
DoctorDifferential & SpeedShop what did you do to safely run e85? Did you buy a kit? My 5.7 is currently at a shop, building a 392 stroker with forged pistons, rods, and crankshaft, and at the same time dropping in a boost cam. Going to be buying a whipple in the near future and also want to run e85.
I wondered just how close you could get by keeping it N/A without going stroker. The R/T is still a great package 👍.. I enjoy your channel as well my friend .. keep it up
Everyone is saying just buy a scatpack but he clearly went thru the other differences and said “if you already bought a 5.7 RT” I own both by the way. 6.4 SRT and 5.7 Great video!!
Great observation my friend. I appreciate that
What year is your SRT?
SRT_Drizz if you had to change your 5.7 intake, would you go 6.1 or 6.4? I own a 5.7.
what kind of jobs y’all have to be getting these cars ?
Snag Daily I always ask the same questions bro!
All the people saying to just buy a scatpack for the money are missing the point of being a car enthusiast. It’s about individuality. There are a million stock scats, stock hellcats, stock RTs, and they’re a dime a dozen. I’d rather continue to build my car and have it be exactly what I want it to be. Very informative video as always, lots of good knowledge!
Your right Dee.. that’s what’s it’s all about 👍
You’re so right! I love my 09 RT that to me is awesome ! I know it’s not a scat but damn it that’s ok wit me and damn it people like me ! Hah
Exactly that's what separate real car enthusiasts versus followers
I truly agree with every word you have spoken. These people who are saying just buy a scatpack probably do not know the difference in a socket versus a wrench; intake versus exhaust; hp versus torque.
I have a 5.7 Chally and am a lifelong car enthusiast. I looked at modifying my car and came to the following conclusions:
1) I would spend as much or more as if I just bought a 6.4.
2) the resulting car would not be as cohesive, or as well thought out, as the 6.4.
3) your typical shop would be reluctant to work on it.
I ended up keeping mine stock and continued to mid my other rides, where my work and $ would result in an improved vehicle.
Great video , I felt reassured! I get off every morning and watch some of these sick videos. Wishing you the best with your channel! Keep up the great content
Thank you Robert 👍
Great video, RacerX! Upgrading to wider wheels, wider tires, performance suspension and springs, installing larger rotors, four-pot calipers, and brake pads to safely support the added horsepower gains just about doubles the cost of modding your R/T to match the output power of a Scatpack, or rather at least make it as safe as a Scatpack with those extra 100 ponies. But admittedly, modding an R/T to this level carries a certain level of satisfaction of owning and racing a sleeper, especially if you can do most (if not all) of your own wrenching. The cumulative mods add very little to the value of the car because at the end of the day, your VIN still identifies your Mopar as an R/T. You may realize ten to twenty cents for every dollar you spend on mods, but only if you can find the right buyer who recognizes the value of your aftermarket modifications.
I've done the math several times over the years and concluded every time that buying a used SRT-392 or Scatpack was the easiest and often less expensive way to go. Ironically when I was ready to move up from my R/T two years ago, I bought a 2015 Hellcat instead, and it wasn't much more than a used Scatpack.
Solid video! I love my RT, currently running a Greene Racing tune and trans tune with long tube headers and its really come alive. Running 4.4 - 4.5 0-60’s consistently now when I can hook lol
Jurassic R/T . Very respectable work my friend 👍
Aloha Buddy, so I’m finally a MOPAR family owner now. I came from just being a subscriber to watching you channel to now owning my 1st Dodge Charger Daytona. 5.7L. I was excited to hit you up and share the good news. My fiancé was telling me last night I didn’t stop smiling the whole night driving home. So HAPPY to begin this journey. This video will be the first thing I’ll mod the car to do. Thanks for being an influence. Henry from Honolulu.
Another great video by the Mopar Professor..great knowledge and insight..nice job racerX..👍
You were exactly right about changing the throttle body and the air intake and exhaust manifold I've done all three of those and that 57 that I got is badass
What exhaust manifold should I get
Really good information I appreciate this cuz I am a RT owner. I don’t want to be as fast as a scat pack just compete more.. I’m subscribing!
Awesome video man! Exactly what i was looking for... I’m getting ready to trade up from an SXT so this was very insightful
After the cost analysis, it's more feasible to purchase the Scat Pak. Thank you RacerX!
Just got my 2017 RT. Have a few mods but want more speed now. I’m still learning the ins and outs and this was very informative. Thank you!
Speed is limited on gear ratios and HP/Torque only gets you to that speed faster. If you think getting more HP will make your can go faster it will but your speed/MPH top end will pretty consistently be the same without a transmission/rear gear change.
This video very helpful! I'm purchasing a new to me vehicle within 3 months and the 2014 or newer Durango RT 5.7 is at the top of the food chain! All ill probably do is full bolt ons, headers and a tune, nothing too much as its gonna be my daily driver, thanks for the upload! Chrysler is currently making the hottest sexist vehicles right now.
these recommendations are pretty much SOP for all engines out there. Intake, Throttle body, exhaust and chips/tunes in modern engines. Gettin into the cam and high perf cylinder heads is when the real power comes
I appreciate the professionalism of your content.

i got r/t its a practical daily driver that sounds good . of course you always want more...but 10k for 100 more horses that you can barely use in a congested city like Dallas not worth it to me at this point
Agreed. Unless you're racing, an R/T is all you really need. 10k is a lot of money for bragging rights.
Or for the same price as an R/T, get a 5.0 and be able to gap scat packs for less $. They also take boost like a champ.
@@caseycrank5607 I like the GT; my sons have them (2). But the piston slap and transmission problems kept me away. I think the TR6060 is a much better transmission and Ford should have put them in the GT. It's a shame that you have to get a 2020 GT 500 to get a good transmission.
I live in Dallas and as soon as it turns night the freeways become a racetrack
Get a used sportbike like a R1 or GSXR1000 and be able to smoke 95% of the cars you see on the street. Performance to price motorcycles are the best bang for your buck.
As a mustang guy I really enjoy learning this kind of stuff especially for different platforms
Hey man just subscribed were out here in Ontario. Love your channel on my 3rd charger now love the hell out them was just about to buy new challenger scat b4 all this madness happened
RT $36640 payment $615/mo
Scat $45430 payment $763/mo
Hellcat $76175 payment $1279/mo
All 2020 prices with 10% down over 60/mo and keep in mind the insurance increases as price does also. At the end of the day $ is what determines what you buy.
I purchased a 2020 scat last month for $34k.
Those prices must be with like 400 credit 😂😂😂
@@pierresland lol I got 750 credit for a 20 year old. I pay 570 for a 19 RT. Not always bad credit but age
To commenters above ^^
Credit doesn't affect purchase price. It affects interest rate and therefore monthly payments
@@jmur3551 I pay 620 for my Rt and I’m 29 my credit is 585. I will continue to build my credit with my first Hemi. I’m satisfied 💪🏽💪🏽
To anyone that owns a 5.7 hemi don’t feel bad because 6.4, modern 5.0, and LS 6.2 rule the streets, 5.7 is older than all those engines, gun for 5.7 gto 4.6 mustang , then tarus sho , Chevy ss and 6.1 hemi.
The 5.7 hemi isn’t bad just outdated. And that’s no buyers fault. No what you have and enjoy it.
Exactly, same goes for ppl like me who have a scatpack. Enjoy it for what it is, plane and simple.
I would not place it as outdated. In such a case the V6 3.6L is more than outdated. It's just a smaller displacement engine.
Racer X love your videos man, thanks and keep up with the good work!
For sure my friend
Just got a 2017 RT and I'm so in love with it
Another solid upgrade for the 8-speed 5.7 Charger; the 3.09 limited slip rear that also comes with the Scat.
I agree, did the swap, having the lower gearing and limited slip is definitely a game changer for my R/T
How much is the swap

Spent around $10k almost $11k and make 590/600 naturally aspirated for my 09 Challenger RT. This was a year ago and it still runs amazing
What did you get done to it
Spending an extra 10k, might as well just got the Snack Pack…that’s basically what the price difference between the rt & scat
@@DerrtydollasTV Yeah he spent an extra 10k, but he makes over 100hp more than a scatpack lol. So same / similar cost and making more power

Just got a 2021 r/t daytona... loving your videos for ideas I need to do with mine
Good info here. Depending on the Year, R/T's are pretty cheap to come by. You can buy a R/T and pay for Forced air and still come up lower than you would've with paying for a Scat Pack...whether used and especially brand new. But then again... a preowned Scat Pack isn't too expensive either and you'll have a better baseline. I say just look around and be patient and go for the bigger displacement. Great vid!
HotRod Fuego .. very true.. good advice
Geez your eyes are matching your shirt! Great video very detailed
Thank you my friend
Always bringing heat 🔥🔥💯
My RT Charger was the Ginny pig for Vortech to mock up the supercharger kit last year for production. I absolutely love it.
Got a rt on Friday and I love it so much , mods next ...😎
Option 3. You can do an engine swap. Transmission is the same, you'll need some other things to make it work. It also won't be cheap. You get the Scat pack performance, without the insurance premium.
That would be much more expensive than paying an extra $30 a month
@@IslandLife843 the scat pack already has the hemi 🤦🏽♂️

I own a 2011 Challenger R/T PLUS, 5.7/6 spd. I put in the Mopar cold air induction setup, the top of the line radio out of a wrecked 2013 Chrysler, and a foward facing camera. I also put in a reverse camera. Now, if that isn't the envy of every modder... (BTW, I've been VERY happy with this car. It has every amenity, extremely reliable and moves out fine while routinely getting 25-30 mpg, hwy. Yes, I'm old.)

I have a 19 all back RT charget. Has enough horsepower for me. I’m not a track person, just a daily driver. I had a 20 scat pack, but I got rid of it and bought my wife a nice luxury car. This summer I’m looking at getting the LT1 camaro. Those things are impressive in 10’speed form
I bought my RT brand new for 28.5k and bolted on a Magnuson supercharger myself for 6.5k. At 6 psi I'm over 500 hp. All for $34.5k.😆
U didn’t forge the inside of the engine

Good evening Racer X I have question about my 2018 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi, can I put a 6.4 intake manifold and a throttle body on my 1500? And what hp would I get? Will I need a tune?
I have heard that if you supercharge a 5.7 and don't beef up the transmission, you're asking for a failure. -- I noticed that in your list of mods, there weren't any recommendations in terms of beefier power train parts to handle the extra torque. Any thoughts on that? I'd hate to see someone spend 10-grand to make the R/T keep up with a Scat Pack, only to find out that the Scat Pack beefs up something to stand that power that the R/T won't be able to handle, long term. Even the valve train on the 5.7 has a reputation for getting loose and clicky after 80,000 miles. - I wonder how many power handling issues are addressed by Dodge when you bump up to the Scat Pack.
R/T Life here. The route I went with is I have BMR front and rear sway bars w/ SPC front upper control arms and Air Lift suspension performance both front and back. Considering upgrading the Differential to a 3.9 then going the edelbrock route? Thoughts?
Yea basically more air flow the faster you car goes....that’s all a supercharger is or a turbo ...jus forced added air ...great video my guy 💪🏽💪🏽
Racer X was actually a cartoon character in the Speed Racer series in the late 60's early 70's.
He was Speed's brother.
Dodge offers three performance upgrades for RTs that are warranty protected and in my opinion that makes it worth it. Its around 9000 for all three stages. I think the total hp increase is 106 which puts a RT within 7 hp of a stock scat pack.
Interesting.. what are those 3 things that Dodge offers?
@@RacerX9 Google scat pack stage kits. There are three and it's possible to buy them all at once. The parts are provided by mopar. I may have been wrong about the HP. It might be 430 so maybe it's not so worth it.

5.7 builds are always fun.
Yeah definitely depends on the cam because I had put a mild one in my rt charger before and gained like 70hp and she was moving
Fact. I gained 66whp with my stage 2 comp cam.
too loud
Option 4: stroker. For 13k, all in, you can have a 400 c.i. Stroker from inertia motorsports installed, tuned, with some shorties and the STOCK exhaust.....500 horsepower at the crank or even more depending on your cam selection (which Stu will offer you cam choices), and that is a fully built, reliable build that will walk all over a stock scat pack. It’s a monster. You can spend more on the catback. Or a custom exhaust. Or long tubes, which would put you at a ridiculous 530 or 540 HP N/A. More than enough for the street and enough to make stock scat packs look silly, with the stock converter and everything believe it or not.
All that being said....scat pack is the better value. But it’s not as unique.
You’re welcome everyone ;)
Definitely something else to consider
@@RacerX9 I wanted to say...your video topics on these have been great to watch given the current climate. Keep it up, brings some normalcy to everything going on right now. Long tube headers, full exhaust, ported intake manifold, ported throttle body, cam and a good tune will get the 5.7 in the same power range as a 6.4, maybe a bit more, but it'll weigh less. Add some ported and polished heads with a valve job, and you're 5.7 is 500-510hp.

I have a ‘17 Ram 1500 with the same 5.7 Hemi. First throw a high-end true CAI, dual exhaust/y-pipe with straight thru flow not baffled with a tighter diameter, and a Pedal Commander on to get the true measure of power. The Commander does not give you power but will give you the true punch of that engine. Start with those, THEN, throw on all the big bolt-on upgrades. I’m in the process of this now and have noticed a huge change in the dynamic of the truck, no shit HUGE.
Right on bro I bought my Durango RT and my CTS V coupe that somebody traded on a hellcat from Meador. Awesome dealer.
I have an AWD R/T. It’s a great daily driver, especially when the weather gets bad. It’s never going to be a Scatpack. The money it would take to bump up the horsepower isn’t worth it. If you want Scatpack or Hellcat power, go buy one.
Awd rt? Is it a decommissioned cop car?
Not a cop car. Dodge made the Awd R/T until 2014.
Is it the v6? I never knew they made an awd r/t v8
It has the 5.7 in it.
Yes that’s the way I look at it as well
Do you have an idea on how much more insurance there would be on a scat pack over the 5.7 RT on average? That might be the only reason to go with a supercharged RT I think.
It would be a little bit more depending on where you live etc. but the mods on an rt aren’t always covered by your insurance
Cool vid. Thank you!
Fort Worth hell yeah! I live in Haslet, can’t wait to get my RT. Perfect for the family and to satisfy my need for some power
Awesome video. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to explain every mod. It's hard to find a Scat pack brand new and appropriately priced so I went with the regular hemi and was wondering if I could make it as fast as the Scat pack. Based on the price I'd be better off trading up. All that being said, I don't race and don't plan on it so the r/t is more than enough for me. To be honest I'd be fine with an sxt or gt but I just love the sound of that hemi motor and how much more responsive it is.
I got a used police car because it was the only way to get a v8 with awd
This is my list mod I have planned for my SRT8 but it should boost the RT by a lot too.
1. K&N CAI
2. 85MM Throttle Body
3. Longtube Headers
3. Tune
4. Cat-Back Exhaust system
5. Cam
6. 315/30/20 Rear & 275/40/20 Front tires
This should def add 100+ hp but not sure how much it will add to the wheels.

The 392 also uses the Hellcat rear axles. You need those for the increased torque. Also keep in mind a heavily modified engine and car is difficult to sell in the open market. Dealerships won't even touch them for trade-ins. Supercharged 5.7's might be worth a look but your rarely get half the cost back when reselling.
Good video. Thanks.
I have a 2006 dodge charger rt hemi and want to get up to at least 400hp not to race but i just love that powerful engine growl when you turn on the car.
The money it takes just to run with a stock 392 scat you can just buy a scat💁🏽♂️.
You'll be suprise how cheap you can get a 15 rt for.
Same can be said for anyone that’s modding a scat. Could’ve bought a hellcat, and then hellcat to demon, and so on...it’s about individuality not just going fast
Yes assuming you have means up front and that’s the power level your shooting for 👍
"Just buy a Scat", he says. Well duh, If I had the xtra $10k laying around I wouldn't be watching this video.
Big savings for insurance with the R/T
There is nothing more fun than walking away from Scatpack's in my 2016 Challenger R/T+ 5.7 M6 with a Whipple supercharger running Boostane at 100 octane with a tune from Mike at OSTDyno. Yes it cost me 10,000 dollars more but the fact that it is a total sleeper is priceless.
Most scats around me are 10k plus most r/t I'd rather have a Whipple r/t sickkkk
Of course if you add boost lol then add boost to the scat too and its over lol.Dollar for dollar the scat is a much better value but the rt is an good daily.
@@alpe6228 throw more than 5lbs of boost and a 6.4 will shit out a rod
@@rustyshackelford5892 then you build the engine at this point. Both the 5.7 and 6.4 shouldnt be boosted imo, they make great power n/a and are great reliable daily.
@@alpe6228 no bro.. there’s a reason why u see a bunch of 1000hp r/T’s and no 1000hp scats all over RUclips.. plus to even get to hellcat power u have to swap out the rings, with the r/t u don’t have to do that all u have to do is gap them
Awesome video brotha and very informative but how does that effect the factory warranty?
I have a 06 and went with walker high flow with 40 series flow masters big difference and sounds incredible
I've been watching many of your videos. I would really like to see a video of a Charger R/T 2020 vs a 2013-2014. A big difference that I like more about the 2013 and 2014 is the AWD. I live in Vermont and snow here can get bad and I want to use a R/T as a daily driver so for me I feel like the 2013 and 2014 is the better route.
I have a 2012 300 C with the 5.7 hemi and in the snow I run circles around all front wheel drive cars and most four-wheel-drive SUV’s is a great daily driver in the snow or in the hot and dry .
I forgot to mention it’s an all wheel drive model
Hello fellow Vermonter! I just brought home my 2021 RT a few days ago. Haven’t dared drive it in snow yet. Mine is the 6 speed manual, RWD. I don’t see many RT daily drivers around here. Mine will be once the Nokian snow tires come in.
I have a 2019 RT and I love it as my daily driver I’ve done a couple mods nothing crazy and may do a little more to make it more fun but it’s my daily driver and my first charger so I’ll keep it but for more power I’m buying a scatpack or a hellcat. I have people all the time say to me you should have bought a scatpack...I have a 3 year old and I’m just finishing nursing school I’ll get the scatpack don’t you worry but for right now I love my rt! Great video!!
Great video keep it up Racer x
Thank you Edward
I’ve been looking for this video forever!! So would you say it’s better to buy an R/T and mod it or go for the scat? Heard the scat comes stock already good to go and can’t do much more to it.
I could only afford the R/T but I fell in love with it so I'm just gonna keep it and mod it
if i waited and saved some more i could get a scat but personally i dont need it. an rt is plenty of power for me i just daily drive it. not a racer just want a throaty v8 sound
@@brody8857 same !
Basically get the 5.7 if you love to do Mods
Get the 6.4 if you don't plan on doing much to it I've owned both Hemi's and there blast to drive! Really comes down to what you can afford and plan to do with it. it would be nice if we all had Demon or red-eye $
The R/T models are awesome. I have a scat pack and I 1000% love R/T’s all the same.
Good info racer x if I had to choose new 5.7 or 6.4 I think I would look at a slightly used hellcat
Of course the hellcat has a supercharged 6.2 👍
