- Best budget modifications for a Charger R/T or Challenger R/T. The Charger and Challenger both come with a 5.7 Hemi. While these engines are great from the factory, there are a handful of cheap mods you can do to add horsepower and make the cars faster for under $2500

This guy knows his stuff. I have watched from the beginning. Watching him learn along the way. Love the fact that not a lot of younger people go hands on like he has. Very articulate and trustworthy. Thanks for all the info and honest opinions.
@@brokelahomachickenfry6497 I appreciate your kind words bro!
😂😂
Thanks for the information on tuning. In the process of upgrading my cam, headers etc on my 5.7 & found a shop that will dyno tune when completed. Now I have a reference on price. Could not find it anywhere & thought it would be around $750.
My lost is almost the same, all I need is the LSD and going to do tje camshaft next weekend. Keep up the good work bro and can't wait to race you again. Stay safe
Just got my rt everything stock this helped
All good points Donny!
I agree with your list, i would add a ported throttle body 85mm for added gains
Miss my man Donavan. Always speaks truth I’d meet up and do some prodjects if able . In the meantime keep,up the good work
You put out the most informative RT videos on RUclips, thank you for that. I put 9.5x20 275 uhp summer tires up front and 10.5x20 305 uhp out back. I’m looking for the 309 lsd next. Then would be the headers you mentioned followed by the 6.4 active intake manifold. You didn’t list it, so I’m curious as to why. Were the gains not worth the cost or was that #6 on a list of 5? I don’t think I want to do the e85 or 93 switch now because e85 got hard to find lately and the current price of 93 octane is the reason I went for the 5.7 over the 6.4 to begin with in addition to insurance cost. Probably after the warranty expires I’ll unlock and tune, possibly for e85 or 93. I was also considering a small 75-100hp wet nitrous kit. Appreciate your videos and any help with these questions. Keep it up.
Appreciate your knowledge and sharing it! #MoparNoCar
Thank you! I appreciate your support bro!
And yeah... a very good way to go is to buy the stuff that others have/are throwing away for for something 'better' I used Camaro stock headers on my LS conversion C10... Like you say the stock Camaro was getting ouit a lot more exhaust than my truck ones.. so... maybe an extra 5 hp for free that will still work with future mods up to 400+ hp
Just bought a new to me 13 Charger RT. It has every upgrade you have done pretty much with the only difference being my cam is a 6.4 cam and I don’t have the 6.4 intake manifold. I found a deal near me on a complete intake manifold kit with window switch and circuits boss for $500. That leads me to my question, with all other mods is the intake setup worth it? I’m leaning on yes because of every other video I see including yours but you didn’t mention it here so thought I would ask.
Great video man I’m looking to upgrade my brakes on my dodge charger, I really like brembos but what would you recommend to upgrade brakes ?
You can always go the pursuit B9 brake upgrade. That’s what I did on my ‘14 RT AWD. Stopping power is excellent and I’ve heard it’s somewhere in between four and six piston brembos stopping power. It’s relatively inexpensive as well. I did the full setup for around $1,500, but I also opted to buy everything brand new. I had a buddy who yoinked all the B9 parts off of a junked cop car and it only cost him around 500. Not too bad
Yes police upgrade as Hybrid mentioned, or the Scat pack brakes / knuckles from a parts car
Do you need a tune with headers? Catted or catless? I want stainless power and a Borla catback, paired with a corsa cold air intake, that’s it and I have used 93/92 octane since I’ve gotten the car in may
I just 5 days ago bought a new 2023 Charger RT DAYTONA. I've been seriously thinking about doing the rear ( posi) upgrade. Did you get a chance to run it at the strip with just this mod? Is it realistic to think this mode by itself could shave a tenth off of the 1/4 mile time? I appreciate your input.
I don’t know much about cars or have anyone to talk to about them but I fell in love with researching and building my 2020 R/T. It has the plus and blacktop package in octane red. Would love to hear your opinion on what I should do. Here’s what I have done performance wise.
- 2019+ srt updated snorkel grill with integrated hellcat airbox and k&n high flow air filter
- 20x9 275s up front and 20x10.5 305s rear on Indy fire hawk 500 tires
- lowered on eibach prokit
In the future I plan to do
-jba longtube headers
-tune
-180 thermostat??
-limited slip differential
-throttle body??
-intake manifold??
-catless mids??
-cam
-e85?
Need to research all of this more and your videos have been helpful!
Here’s the non performance things I’ve done to it. I’ve held off on most things because of warranty reasons but it’s getting to that time where I want to take it to the next level performance wise.
-ceramic nano carbon window tint on all windows
-rear diffuser
-dynomax mini race bullet performance mufflers in place of mid mufflers
-carven exhaust ceramic black 5 inch tips
-billet technology octane red catch can with z bracket and color matched ends
-spoilerking roof spoiler 380RC
-luxe auto concepts dark gloss side marker tint
-luxe auto concepts dark gloss taillight tint
-per4ormance development gloss black differential brace
-cchcustoms color matched octane red ignition button
-cchcustoms color matched octane red paddle shifters
-custom license plate and frame
-billet tech color matched octane red engine bay pieces
-cciauto color matched and custom logo caliper covers
That's a pretty sweet mod list man. I would look into a 3.09 Limited slip diff and an engine/trans tune
So in case anyone is also wondering if all of what he's saying applies to the 2015-2023 Chrysler 300, YES
It's unfortunate that the Chrysler 300 doesn't get mentioned enough when covering topics like these for those who own Chrysler 300's with the same engine configuration like the Dodge Charger/Challenger
These apply if it's a 15+ 300 with the V8
The 300 will always look better than the charger cuz the fenders.
I've got a 2013 Charger RT, what Hellcat Intake box's can I use? The 2013's are hard to find information on since the body style only lasted 4 years.
You forgot the most important thing high-performance iridium, NGK spark plugs
@donnysrt How do you install the hellcat coldair if you don't have the 6.4L intake? Also I was wondering if you ever had issues keeping the hemi cool when on stoplights or after a ride sitting and idling? Cheers
Its the same box. The hellcat lower just has the hole so u can plug in the snorkel
@@DCGEMINI202 ow the lower, ok
Hey Donny I’ve got a question. I’ve got a 2017 pursuit with AWD and the 5.7. Do i need a limited slip diff? I know I can bolt it in, but is it redundant considering I’m already AWD? Thanks man love the builds!
Need an answer for this asap
I do not believe this LSD will work for your setup. Unfortunately trans setup is completely different I think
You don’t need it, with it being awd limited slip isn’t needed. Just better tires (if you do spin) mine only does in rain
Same thing I did.
#1 hellcat airbox
#2 3.09 gears
Tires I did the first month of ownership I don't spin at all I surprised alot of cars from the dig at the lights .
Everything else is stock except pedal commander and hellcat air filter not really bolt ons
Can’t go wrong with what you listed! Practical and reliable
So you did the LSD and are not tuned at all? That's something I'm curious about because I don't want to tune as I'm still under warranty but I think that LSD would be super beneficial. Did you buy it new or used from someone else or like a junkyard or something? How expensive is it to get someone to install that?
@@brody8857 I got it used from offer up for 450 bucks
A 3.09 LSD would NOT work on my 2011 Charger R/T Road & Track with a 3.06 rear end right?
No but you can find a getrag rear end that I believe would bolt in
how much horse power would this produce?
Can you put on widerr rims on your stock rims 😅 say for example 2016 charger SE 😮 size like say 245 50 20inch let me know good content 😅
Some things never change.... you gotta have a plan.
Anything different you’d do to a 2014 RT?
Another good one is 6.4 intake manifold. It is a little deeper but provides a nice step across the whole powerband. Bonus points if you can find one that is being sold with 6.4 fuel injectors
Is it going to be a bolt on?
@molly-zk6sx yes but you need a new air filter tube, and maybe some small extras depending how much your 6.4 intake comes with. There are plenty of videos on RUclips going into detail
@@how_long thanks man, will look into it
How expensive is this and is this something that requires a tune?
Will the hellcat air box fit on a 2006 R.T
Donovan I asked you if you can put 20inch tires on my 2016 charger SE let me know
When you say srt manifolds. Are you referring to 6.1 manifods or 6.4
Great question. I mean 6.4 exhaust manifolds
@DonnySRT thanks Donny your awesome
Where do yall recommend getting parts?
how much power will it make with all those?
So how much quicker is it in a quarter mile?
You know what’s crazy is HP tuners quoted me 2k just to tune the pcm. So the budget would be blown for other stuff.
How much more performance would you get with those mods?
ruclips.net/video/6bVe383jij8/видео.htmlsi=0h-ujTc-mna9Fd4s
How do you get the PCM unlocked!
I'm in the orange county area, would anyone know of a shop that does tunes for hemis?
Full blown performance is out in LA!
If I get SRT shorty headers for my 2014 Rt will I need to get new mid pipes?
I don’t know bc of the year
Not 100% sure but I don't think so
You will, the cats/mid pipes for the 5.7’s have an extra bit of piping to connect to the crappy log manifolds. The cats on the scats/cats are shorter.
Those manifolds are more like mid length headers than shorties
The only thing I disagree with is the 6.4 headers….. they’re great, and cheap. BUT!!! They do NOT bolt to factory 5.7 midpipes. I did the swap on my ‘17 Daytona, and I ended up having to buy some scat pack mids for mine.
The mids from the scat pack (or any 6.4 hemi car) are shorter in between the cat and the flange that bolts to the headers….. be wary of that. If you don’t have extra cash for the mids, spend the extra $150 on shorties instead.
Agreed. I noticed he said that and began researching it. To switch to the 6.4 exhaust manifolds, you also need to get the 6.4 factory mid-pipes which raises the cost considerably. Shorty headers are probably the least invasive and lowest cost upgrade to the 5.7L manifolds.
@@DoctorHemi do shorty headers require a tune? i assume so
@@brody8857 , I assume so as well. I don't know if having them without a tune will cause a "service engine" light, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get the full benefit of them without a tune.
Bro I remember this beat at the intro but not what song it’s from 😅
For srt headers u need srt mids they 3 inch pipe
What about ported tb and manfoild
Negligible gains on a nearly stock car in the case of the 5.7 in my honest opinion
How much hp you pushing
What’s the whp with these mods?
Depends on the dyno
What whp off a build like this?
Wonder why this info is not provided? Not cool.
When is the next video
I would say top 5 mods are
3.09 lsd
Long tube headers
Wider tires
Hellcat lower air box
And cam
Plus the obvious tune
the cam setup is like the price of all these combined
@@user-bz9jd9gt9o you right. I didnt see “budget build”😅
If I get shorty exhaust manifold would i need long tube headers?
Exhaust manifold and headers are the same thing. You have 2 versions, shorty's and long tube.
Do these mods apply for 2011-14 RT models as well?
2014 and up !. It’s all the same bro
You think e85 conversion is worth it
Not for the average car, no. Especially not if you daily the car
@@DonnySRT i have a 5.7 was thinking of doing it. Its my daily idk if its worth it
I agree Donny. My 22 rt challenger pulled a lot quicker than our 22 rt charger. The charger has the 2.62, and challenger is 3.07. Its open diff butgood gearing.
The added gearing really wakes up the 5.7!!
@@DonnySRT can i find a 309 LSD from the scat and get it installed on my 5.7 and not need a tune?
Come on Donny, we need some videos. Lol
Soon brother! Waiting for life to calm down a little bit!
I truly don't believe you're able to snag all of that for a little more then 2 grand man... these are like diamond in a dumpster finds. I haven't seen a 3.09 for under $1200 any where. Dyno runs are nearly $100 a pull at shops around me, that's not even including the diablo sport PCM which runs around $700. Hell, literally just a set of long tubes plus installation (if you've ever done LTs on these 2015+ models you will understand why your average joe would want to opt to pay a shop for labor) i got quoted at $1600 for stainless power LTs and anywhere from 500-800 in labor...
Hey nice videos man, was wondering if you have any type of discord or group to ask more questions
