I drove my R/T Charger to get ice cream tonight. There was an R/T Challenger there too. I have flowmasters and am very used to the sound. The Challenger fired up and drove away. It sounded like a sewing machine, good exhaust in a V8 is a MUST!
this whole series has been so educational and inspiring! its motivated me to start my own build on my 2013 rt ive had since 2017, just want to wake her up a little bit so im going to start this same build once its paid off next year!
HAHA I remember these back in the good ole days with my 300 srt 426 stroker, could be heard miles away and shook walls knocking pictures over the vibration was so powerful...ahhh the good ole days
Yessir! When I was just on Rocky Mountain Race Week I was pitted next to an old style Chevy gasser, he had the cutout type that bolt on, he removed those things before his runs, could blow your eardrums out! 😄
Thank you man I just bought a 2013 5.7 challenger and I hear a little tick in the engine it has 118 thousand on it but runs great I wanted to do the 6.4 cam and lifters and I feel better about it now after your videos
I did this some time ago on my old 4.6L Mustang that I put some FRPP Hot Rod cams in and it was nasty with that lope in there. I think I have a few old videos from years ago with the open/close with cams, I highly recommend some big lope cams!
Another great video! My challenger rt sounds raspy also and when I had a chance to look under the car, I noticed that the previous owner deleted the mufflers but not the resonators! I think I will do a cat back exhaust and short headers in the future. Thanks again for the great content of your videos!
I like the wireless control. Curious to why you didn't put the cut outs on the outside of the pipes and direct the exhaust to the sides of the car? Call me crazy but the exhaust is confined to the undercarriage under the floor so at idle the fumes would go up into the cab. Anyway that's how my mind works. LOL ( Nice job)
It's kind of hard to tell from the video, but the mid pipes are recessed into the underside of the body, there's literally no room on the outside of the pipe unless I routed the pipes straight into the ground. This was not the most desirable location to put the cut outs, but really the only one that worked. I did drive around and idled for awhile to see if I got any fumes in the cab, but so far so good. 👍
I know this is a little older of a video, but am just wondering, if you look at the 5:47 mark, what am I missing to where these cutouts could not be place in the elbows by your forehead? Like you were explaining behind the muffler. It's hard to see on the video if it does or doesn't make sense.
I did a poor job of showing this with camera angles, but the outside of the elbows the floor of the vehicle is much lower than the inside fo the exhaust, and this would have pushed the cutouts down about 25-30 degrees, making them extremely susceptible to being ripped off on a driveway entrance or something like that. 👍
Ever since I found this channel I wanted to start nodding my 5.7 M6 Challenger. First mod will be full length header install. But to do it properly need to just completely replace the exhaust since I want to delete those pesky resonators. If you ever want to make a nightmare video on it I can hire you to do that install
I've been thinking about cutouts, only thing is though. I don't want to cut holes in my stock mid pipes. I've been thinking about a true dual set up and I would definitely love these. The biggest thing that has stopped me from really looking into them was cutting a hole in the dash.
I have to say, this kit really changed my mind about cutouts overall. I would have been hesitant to add them to my own vehicle, but after seeing how effective they were, and how they weren't leaking at all, I'm seriously looking to add them to another one of my projects down the line. 👍
Awesome series, it is great to see someone actually explain the work, experience issues and overcome them and offer a honest opinion. I agree about the Diablo tuner, I have one for my 2010 Challenger RT and my 2014 Ram 2500 5.7 and I agree that they do no really bring much to the party other than taking your money. You have inspired me to do some upgrades to my Challenger.
Nice job and I love cutouts, they are in my opinion the perfect system (Which is, in my opinion, why many OEMs are moving towards them). If you decide not to Turbo the C10, I know you had said it was a bit loud on the road, perhaps these might be what the Dr. (Wifey) ordered? I would be really happy with those welds. I wish mine looked as good as the lousy ones on the instruction manual. But to my defense, I am using flux core, which is hard to do on thinwall tubing. I'd like to get into tig, how much does a tank full of gas run you? It's 100% argon, right? I'd be curious to see if you can do an update on these in a year or so. I know some brands leak when closed and I've heard some motors burn out. Those seem really well designed though.
Nobody's welds look good using flux core, in fact, I think it's especially demoralizing to learn using flux core because it falsely makes you feel like you'll never be any good at welding. I guarantee that once you switch to gas welding that your MIG welds will look pretty decent within a day of practice. 👍 TIG does use full argon, and the gas price fluctuates depending on where you are. Previously I was getting my 80CUFT bottle filled for $65, now down here I'm getting my 125CUFT bottle filled for $55. The biggest expense is the original bottle purchase which is usually around $225 for a filled bottle. I've heard that as well about the cut outs leaking eventually. I plan on keeping in touch with the new owner to see how well they hold up.
Another great video! 😊. I have two questions: 1) What welding technique are you using. 2). Wouldn’t the position of the cut outs on the exhaust dump exhaust fumes directly underneath the passenger compartment? Thus, these fumes creeping inside?
Hey Eric! In this video I'm TIG welding, and I was a little worried about exhaust fumes myself, but the fact that there are turn downs on the end of the cutouts helps quite a bit. I did sit and idle the vehicle for about 10 minutes to see if I got any exhaust fumes, but there were none so I was happy with that. 👍
@@ReignitedAuto I was thinking the same thing about exhaust fumes Eric. With his experience/knowledge I figured he thought of it too. I suppose two important things for anyone doing this: (1) Make sure it's a quality valve (good seal to prevent leaks) and ensure good welds to prevent leaks; and (2) I imagine this performance mod would only be utilized outdoors on the street and for short time frames. Outside of manufacturer claims, do these actually increase HP (when placed approp.)? That would be interesting to know, & could sway a purchase decision. And like Eric said, thanks for yet another great video. Your explanations and details make the difference on what to choose to watch when time is limited.
Way back in the 60s those were called dashboard cutouts. No sissy batteries and remotes, you actually had to man up and pull a cable. Sheesh this new generation!
Hard to tell from the video but the floor pans on either side are much lower than the tunnel so if I mounted them on the outside they would hang down quite low and likely get ripped off at some point. 👍
Did your friend ever dyno that challenger? I am getting ready to do a 6.4 cam swap in my 5.7 hemi I'm hoping for the most out of it so I'm also installing the 6.4 intake and exhaust manifolds. Maybe even ported heads. Thanks for making these awesome videos I hope to hear from you soon.
Unfortunately no, and I don't think he's going to. However, he does want to bring the vehicle to me to install a supercharger on it, so that could be awesome 😄. Make sure with the 6.4 intake that you're getting a controller to actuate it that way you get the full benefit!
Question, what product can I install to keep my active exhaust open full time on my 2021 Challenger Scat Pack? Don't want it to throw a code....lol Actuator adapters?
Wish I could tell you, I sold the car about a year ago now. But they seemed to be very nice quality overall, I wouldn't be surprised to hear they are functioning perfectly. In fact, for my next project I'm going to do cutouts, and I'm going with the same models because I liked these so much. 👍
@@ReignitedAuto Thanks for the response! I imagine that their longevity's dependent on frequency of use; I can see myself burning the motors out opening/closing them too often... 😭

That's a great kit. Does it have a exhaust leaking sound when closed? I've heard a few cut outs that sound like a leaking manifold gasket. Your install is super clean.
