actually i just watched a documentary yesterday about how they have grocery stores and diabetes is SOARING in samoa since 2005 because they no longer cook in the traditional ways... their bodies didnt have time to adapt to the modern high sugar processed food
@@MrLTiger it's true that many samoan people face those issues of obesity and diabetes due to the facts that you stated, but many rural villages still practice the traditional samoan lifestyle. It's a shame that many 3rd world countries are quickly shifting to the western way of life
@@kanyewest184 true my father’s from the outer villages and they still practice the traditional way of cooking food, which keeps them very fit and healthy. Even after 20 years he still cant adjust to processed food, but sadly the main towns have been westernised with this types of food.
MrLTiger yes and those are the people who live near the town area. But all the rural villages of Samoa still live like this, that’s why you’ll find most of the fittest healthy Samoan are not from around their town area but from the rural part of Samoa. Because they don’t have access on processed foods, they are depended on what they grow and fishing.
I'm filipino but most of my friends in hawaii are samoans..our cultures are really alike..I love the culture and the people..i even have older samoans whom I call mom n dad...
I am proud of my Samoan roots. And am so glad so many others outside of the culture of Polynesia appreciate it as well. Sharing is what makes us human!

thank you for so many reminders of my childhood. Me and my family used to live in American Samoa in a area called Mapasonga. {spelling?} Back in the very early 60's. Back when there were no paved roads, no TV, only one radio station. what a simple life. but for a small boy what a chance of a lifetime. I would give anything to go back and see this beautiful culture again. Again Thanks your for you wonderful show.
Zarmo, we moved to Matafao in 1966. I went to Fia Aloa school where my dad, Carl liebig was principal. I would love to chat more about our years there. I now live in kansas, and miss the Samoan foods so much.

@@Nozzlejockey2 my parents were both television teachers, then dad got the principal job at matafao. I went to Fia Aloa elementary in Pago Pago. We were there from 1966 through 1970. I'm 59 yo now.

I almost drowned at the oil dock bus stop waiting on the bus. as the one we were supposed to catch to go home was full. so we had to wait another hour for the next one. so we all went swimming. then on the way home we saw the bus we were supposed to be on had gone off the cliffs along side the road. so happy we were not on that bus.
I worked with two little brothers who were security guards at Aikahi Shopping Center that were fire dancers at the Polynesian Cultural Center. They are in this video. The nicest, sweetest guys you would ever hope to meet. I hope that they and their families are well! Much love to both of you!

I was hooked from the breadfruit, yam and banana. Then when they started roasting the fish, I knew me and deml cool! I think they would like Jamaica food and jamaica culture.
I love this video and it ties in very nicely with some research I have been doing on the beautiful Hawaiian and Polynesian islands including Samoa, Fiji,etc...(Mostly Tiki's, Petroglyphs, ancient writings) All respect too these Island People's for the culture, food, and healthy living. Chief Sielu is one of the nicest people I've ever seen and he is a valuable asset to his People.
Went to Samoa earlier this year , and straight up besides getting bitten in Samoa it was the best experience I ever had , bt someday I would love to go back there in two years time .

Someone seriously needs to do a documentary about him. He WAS PCC. I remember every time I went to PCC, his parts of the show/polynesian village were always the best and most entertaining. I hope he is well. Anyone know if he's still at PCC? I live on the same island but haven't been to visit. I saw the video of the new revamped floor show "Breath Of Life". I personally thought it was boring compared to the old show, but I get that they're trying something new. The fire knife show and the comedy with the 3 guys trying to put out fire with their huge grass skirts were the most memorable out of the old floor show. Boat rides and Samoan village too. This guy was an absolute entertainer. Very, very good at capturing the audience's attention.

My English husband wanted to go back to Samoa and learn how to do the umu.. So last year we went and thank goodness he didn't get sick or anything glad he wanted to experience where I come from and the way we live back in the island. Happy Samoan ☺️.. He was the best fire knife dancer yet.... And the day time village shows at Samoa were the best. Big ups to my brothers and sisters across the Pacific...
