  • This is the story of I’iga Pisa. The survivor of those exiled in Mau A Pule movement, who made it back to witness Samoa winning back her freedom from colonial rule.
After escaping being exiled in Saipan by the Germans, I’iga embarked on an extraordinary journey to find his way home to Samoa, where he walked a fine line between the NZ administration and his own people, but would eventually help usher Samoa through to independence.
In loving memory of I’iga Olevia Muliaumaseali’i and the aiga potopoto of I’iga Pisa.

In our history classes in Samoa back then we were not taught these other sides to our history. What they taught us stopped with Lauaki Namulaulu Mamoe, Taisi O F Nelson, Mataafa Iosefa, and Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III and a few others. This is a good insight into what else was going on in the background of things.

I'm a born Samoan lady and i'm crying while watching this. I love our people that loves hard and forgives always. I think this was a boycotte to weaken our culture by others. However i give thanks, gratitude and love to our elders, and our ancestors for being so loving, peaceful, joy and the freedom they showed us. That is what i am❤

Really interesting documentary about a son of Samoa being extradited to foreign lands.Learns the locals language then turns to learning the German language in order to communicate to the German Colonisers.Sets out to Guam by using the traditional navigation techniques.Manages to persuade authorities and hitch a ride to Hawaii.Realises once arriving in Hawaii that the Germans have left and the English had taken over the administration Learns the language in order to communicate with them.Gets a job in the government because speaks their language and studied their ways and methods.Has a massive hand as an interpreter during the Samoan independence negotiations and dies in his country that he served.
And not a single mention of his name with in the education system for future generations to learn what.. Tautua…to be of service is all about.
Samoans only remember who they want to remember and if you went with the tide you a
Were considered an asset…Go against the grain regardless of contribution….not a mention!!

If you can't wear this great man's shoes and make the contriving decisions he had to make; don't try to be a hero here and try to comment insinuating comments ... Samoa, the first country in the Pacific Islands to be independent.
