Samoana Documentary

  • Опубликовано: 4 сен 2024
  • The hour-long documentary covers 3000 years of Samoa’s history.
Major events highlighted in the film include the partition of Western Samoa in the nineteenth century, rule by Imperial Germany, New Zealand trusteeship and the road toward independence.
Scenes in Samoana include dramatic representation of the killing of unarmed Mau supporters by New Zealand troops in 1929 , and the massive death toll of the influenza epidemic which followed the First World War.
The film also illustrates key aspects of “Fa`a Samoa” - tattooing, ava (kava) ceremonies and the chiefly system.

I am married to a Samoan man. He always told me that they would never give up their land. That's why they didn't end up like Hawaii. They have kept their culture alive to this day. They are true Warriors. Families and culture are very strong and come first at all aspects. They are true Warriors. I am proud to say that my sons have Samoan blood in them. FA'A SAMOA.

Very proud to be Pacific islander. Surendered by Beautiful Pacific Ocean.
When I see this document of Samoan people and culture and history makes me share tears.
Very sad to watch whites who spoilt Samoa.
As I think about my country which has 1200 different languages and thousands of cultures
God gave us Polonysia, Micronesia and Melenisians in this part of the globe.
We must love, respect, share each other in anything we do together.
By country to country in sharing wealth together.
When I watch our PACIFIC Island Boys play in world cup Rugby League..
I feel real great proud and love them as our boys play each other.
After game they pray and sing our Pasifika Song
Praise God we are Pacific Islanders. We will live as Islanders.

I'm sure there are Samoans, Tongans, Rarotongans n other Pacific Islanders by DNA in your country n all over the Americas (South n North especially the former as criminals (slave ships) brought people as slaves by way of tricking them with entertainment parties n alcohols, on their ships but when the Islanders slept tied them up then they took off n sailed away . Those slave ships came with slaves from Africa, NZ/Australia via the Pacific islands on the way to south America mainly Peru then slaves spreaded out to other neighbouring countries.

You can actually only hear this language in the Tongan dance called the Otuhaka, which has like the perfect blend of Samoan and Tongan. One people, one history, different variations. We are all one people and share similar, if not the same genealogies🙌

We have that darn European dna in us, which is sad, but I do not hate the family because of it. I do hate the fact of what the Europeans did to the indigenous people of Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii Islands, Philippines, china, Japan, all the islands on the ocean, Canada, Africa, united states. Its a truly shame of invasion and then their entertaining them, as they walk around as though they are some great nation. You guys (Samoans) have your identify of who you are and that is great. I hope one day you guys will take back your land and guard it. God Bless the Samoan People. God Bless

Samoa is an independent nation that runs its own government. And about 80% of the land is customary land owned by Samoan families. The other 20% is own by the government and freehold land. About customary land, they don’t pay taxes on their land because the government doesn’t own it, probably unlike any other country in the world. Samoan families can’t seek their land because is against customary laws. Samoa has one of the most ancient cultures and traditions in the world to this day. “Fa’aSamoa” is the way Samoans think, speak, and act. Europeans had the hardest time challenging the “fa’aSamoa” which eventually led to Samoans taking back control of its own country. Fa’aSamoa defines the psyche of the Samoans. I think it’s the reason why they’re quite self-confident in places where they show up on the world stage. They don’t have a slave mentality because everyone comes from a chiefly family in Samoa. So they’re quite proud and overly confident in who they are, considering they’re quite a small country in the middle of nowhere. “Western Samoa” changed its name back to “Samoa” almost 30 years ago, removing the word “Western” as a sign of returning to its pre-European identity.

But their culture reflects proto polynesian elements. Including the tattoo techniques and patterns used. They are the pre polynesian people that are literally central to the west melanesian bridge regions. They mixed with the later coming austronesians and some moluccans look VERY polynesian where as the others are still more melanesian.

When the German takeover of Samoa (1899) is dealt with, the national anthem of the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) / Federal Republic of Germany (1949-) is played, not the German
    anthem of the time.

The Samoan people are the founding fathers of Polynesia, all Polynesians come from Samoans that’s why literally all the natives to all the poly islands literally look the same to a Samoan, and all have similar culture and language to Samoa, Samoa is the oldest of them all being in the heart of Polynesia, our ancestors were the greatest navigators of all mankind sailing through all Polynesia and then eventually discovering the Americas, as evidence they brought back the sweet potato which is a native plant in the americas not also that the native Americans call their canoes a similar name to what the Samoans also used call them too l, to close it all the word Tagaloa is a Samoan word which refers to supreme being or creator, these are where all the other Polynesians words for supreme being or creator come from such as Hawaii-“Kanaloa” New Zealand “tagaroa” original name for NZ is aotearoa, Tonga- tangaloa , etc, And the island “Hawaii” is named from Samoans when they first settle their naming it after the Samoan island Savai’i which why the correct way to pronounce “Hawaii” is HĀ-vah-i

Migrations were either deliberate or accidental? That’s the dumbest thing coming out of the mouth of a Polynesian. Polys built seaworthy crafts and learned to be aided by the stars and ocean currents in their navigating the seas. Does that sound like an accident? We weren’t smart enough to be deliberate in what we did?

I'm German and I love Samoa and the Samoans so much ❤❤❤ For me Samoa it's the most beautiful place on earth and the Samoans are true humans! I don't want to apologize for anything... colonization brought a lot of suffering to the peoples. But I would like to differentiate: There are always “such and such people”…
Not all Germans who came to Samoa during colonization wanted to destroy Samoa's culture. On the contrary, many of them recognized the greatness of Samoan culture and appreciated the
Samoans. Most people who came and get in real touch with the Samoans and culture felt, how unique this place and its people were. The place seemed to them, as if they had landed in God's paradise. Not just because of the beauty of the islands, but above all because of the beauty (both external and internal) of the people there. I'm currently reading very old books from the period around 1890 - 1917, written by Germans who lived there at that time. One of them wrote in 1915: "The Samoan is, beyond any doubt, understood from his worldly perspective, a highly developed and talented person gifted and blessed with virtue. His mistakes are not serious and there are many reasons for the European to learn from him. Our duty is to protect him as far as possible from the influence of European pseudo-culture."
I wish nothing more than Samoans manage to preserve their culture. With their knowledge, perhaps also rituals, but above all their deep love for life itself and God’s creation, which is expressed in them. That the wisdom and knowledge their ancestors possessed can and may live on. And that WE, the peoples of the modern world alienated from real life, LEARN FROM THEM💫🙏
(I hope, I took the right English words… my English unfortunately is not perfect… sorry)

Well technically it was the Empire of Tui Manu'a or Tuimanu'a. The name Samoa comes from Sa-Moa. Sa denotes a family or clan and Moa denotes the name of that family. Tuimanu'a comes from this family and Samoa as a whole, being named family of Moa, all come from this family or clan as well. And yes Polynesian history does speak to this fact, including Tongan history. His home is called Manu'a and when Tonga ruled over "Samoa" they actually did not rule over Manu'a. They did not even step foot on Manu'a. One history says it is because they respected the Great Tuimanu'a. Another history says they tried and were humiliated. Tuimanu'a's empire is called Faleselau, House of Hundreds, and this is speaking because he ruled over all of the Pacific. This includes Fiji as well but maybe not all of Fiji. It also includes islands in Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea.

@@jmjm1920 Have you seen someone from Maluku? Open your mind up not everything in Asia is Chinese just like how not everything in the Pacific is Polynesian. Maluku was definitely one of the gateways into the Pacific, the others being Coastal Melanesia (Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Fiji) and the Philippines. You talk like discovering the American Landmass automatically means a genetic connection, in my country Kiribati we discovered America in prehistoric times too we, our sailor Teraaka called it Maiawa, doesn't mean we descended from them we're still Austronesian through and through.

I believe Samoan, Tongan, all the way down to the Micronesia Islanders come South America, like Peru. Look up Tiki expedition and watch the videos. It may shine some lights.
