Chief is actually a pretty good role model. He's strong, and physically intimidating, but well spoken, worldly and intelligent. Confident, but very friendly. He takes charge of the room, but also not afraid to have fun and look silly himself. He's basically doing a comedy show and teaching people survival skills at the same time, with jokes that are timeless and funny to people from very different cultures like America and Japan. Dude is a real Chad.
Some day, chad and virgin will become cringe and forgotten as the dab, big chungus or Ugandan knuckles, but his man spirit and charm will never die in memory.

This is how you teach people about your culture. He wasnt self-righteous, he didnt demean anyone, people learned something from him and also walked away with a smile on their faces. This is a very awesome guy.

I was at the Polynesian cultural center 2 weeks ago. This show has matured a lot since 1995 in a fantastic way. Much more comedic and a lot more fun. As tid bit of info, Kap (the guy you see climbing the tree at the end) is now the new chief and is hilarious. Also an artist and a painter selling his art at the cultural center.
Saw the show a couple days ago and Chief Kap was the host and comedian. Don't know when Kap started rotating in as host but after 27 yrs, it's interesting to see mostly the same comedy routine with some changes in order.
We just attended a Chief’s Luau last March and watched Chief Sielu Avea. Even at old age, he is still one of the best comedians I have ever watch. We enjoy it so much. Thank you from the Philippines.
Absolutely brilliant. He cleverly takes the p*ss out of commercialism and tourism whilst maintaining a deep pride in his heritage and the need to share and benefit from that sharing.
As a Samoan myself this video makes me so happy, Samoans have always been so humorous. Partly because we are just out going comfy people, mostly joking about our trauma from hidings n our upbringing anddd our ugly cackles that make everything funnier. Proud to b Samoan always💝

@@clarkAHathaway in a comedy drama/show the most important thing is the delivery, even a simple word can be a joke if done by a professional , and this chief is confident, i don't think some other people would be good even if they repeat or play his role. In our local area we have a comedian who is funny even if he speaks a normal everyday conversation with a bit of a stutter, we called him a born and gifted comedian, his every word was funny, but if his joke was done by others its more like a cringe, that is why the comedian is an important role as their material really sums up their joke and their delivery is on point.

He's really really good in his timing as well as his delivery lol he's in this, say, neutral territory, when it comes to humor, where it's generally understandable by anybody from various cultural origins. Plus the voice cracks 😆 it adds to his delivery. Most of all, it's beautiful when people still preserve the traditions of their ancestors despite advancing into modernity in a very fast pace
This is one of the greatest pieces of comedy I have ever seen and I've seen a lot! His charisma is incredible and the subtle expressions and everything is so perfect.

We found him at Chief’s Luau in Oahu this past Summer. Always wondered what happened to him after he left PCC. He went on and started his own Luau company called Chief’s Luau. He’s still pretty funny as a host. Go check him out when in Oahu.
