Damn it... I think you might have put me back into the performance-tuning rabbit hole. I keep the FPS locked at 50% monitor refresh rate (30FPS) within MSFS. For my system, that's worked really well. I never thought about locking the FPS thru the Nvidia control panel. Also, I've never used CapFrameX so this tool might help a bit. Thanks again for sharing.
I try to stay out of the rabbit hole too. As long as I dont get stutters I dont worry too much about it. We could easily spend all of our time making setting changes. There are so many options
When G-Sync is set up correctly (see Blurbusters 101 guide) there is no need to lock the framerate as the system will lock it a few frames below your refresh rate for you. But as we can’t yet achieve a constant 120fps+, it is better to lock the framerate in RTSS or NVCP simply to smooth out the frame time which will result in a much smoother flight and lower power consumption. YMMV
@@manic_miner Good point 👍🏻 My main reason for locking fps is to get as low frame time variance as possible (reduce stutters). The other reason is to match fps to display refresh rate (prevent tearing).
@@captainpiett765 which is strange in this video because when locked with RTSS I can still see regular variances in your frametime. I don't see that after fine tuning the framerate in RTSS. 59,60,61 and 62 all gave slight variances. For whatever reason 63 gives me the smoothest line with no variances. Similar system to you but 5800X3D and 64gb RAM.
@@manic_miner It depends highly on the load on the CPU. Normally I can achieve very good frame time variance. AI traffic is for me the biggest issue - high levels always leads to poor frame time consistency. I can’t remember which traffic setting I used in this video. So in other words: it depends. I also have the best results locking to 63 with FPS. Having perfect frame time variance 100% of the time is unrealistic IMO.
@@captainpiett765 Maybe it was your recording software causing them? AI traffic is a killer. I'm using FSHud with 15 Parked and 10 active and can hold 60fps in most place except heavy hitters like EGLL in a jet. Any higher and my FPS go too low for me. I also run a GTX4090 on a 55inch tv that has a 60 hertz freq. For me personally i find this the best and smoothest setting No frame generation , TAA , and V sync on at half the refresh rate, so locked at 30 fps, smooth as butter, and the power use of the 4090 is halved . Give it a try
"Should you lock your FSP?" I don't and have no problems with that. My sim is butter smooth and I record in 4K. When it comes to flight simming there is no one size fits all, what works for one may not work for another. My advice is do what works best for you and your sim and that will come only through trial and error. I don't lock FPS or even worry about it, FPS IS NOT the end all to be all.
Thanks for putting this together. I hadn't thought of using RTSS for FPS limiting. I fly mainly in VR. Does anyone know if RTSS FPS limiting works for VR?
4090 here with a 45 inch ultra wide curved OLED 4k monitor. I locked it to 60 FPS and smooth as silk. I recommend locking FPS, not so much GPU and CPU usage. 90% ultra settings.
Hello, i'm little confused here, i have 40 series card RTX 4070 ti Super, to using DLSS frame generation do i need any mod or folder? Or just simply on frame Gen in dim setting that's all. Pls help. olso any advice how i can eliminate shimmering on onject.
With a 40 series GPU you don't need any mod for frame generation, just enable in sim settings. Shimmering on objects is a bit more tricky to get rid of.

Great informative video. I’ve been having trouble with micro stutters whereby if I use the ingame frame counter, about 10 seconds after I’ve taken off and when coming into land I get a blue line stutter/pause Any idea what causes this?
Do you run your monitor at 60 Hz or higher? I have heard that by locking to 60 and running the monitor at the same, in this case 60 Hz, produces less jittering. And why 63 specifically?
I have monitor Hz set to 100 but I’m running G-sync so no tearing. 63 is a bit random, 60 or 65 should probably have worked equally well. 63 is a value that works well with my hardware most of the time.
I use amd 7800x3d and am new to the amd platform And was wondering do u have smt or hyper threading on or off in the bios ?do u use expo or disabled ?been having some issues with my terrain kinda blurry and grainy
I knew I wasn’t losing my mind. It’s significantly better with RTSS than NCP!
