    So, as a MC's fan, you should know that her voice always evolved through the years, and that even before she released her very first album "Mariah Carey", her voice had already changed; if you don't believe me, just listen to her singing Weakness of the body. ;)

  • @imsnowbored
    @imsnowbored 11 лет назад +10

    This is ridiculous... People are focusing on the run at 0:20 like Christina could sing the C5 at 0:18 without shouting. Like, don't ignore the most important bit people. Just listen to the studio recording of Christina singing 'At Last', and the C5s in that song, and then listen to this C5 and 'Weakness of the Body' that Mariah sang at 16 also. The C5(s) in that song sound similar to this one, much more so than any C5 that Christina has sung in her entire career. There is a big difference. This is obviously Mariah Carey.

    It is obviously christina. It sounded belting using high larynx. Mariah does not do that. And the low notes are obviously from christina. They mixed the whole thing and avoided christina's screechy notes. This was actually from genie gets her wish documentar mixed with different performances as xtina does a bunch of cover of this song. It is her pre debut or debut era when she doesnt growl or strain.

I don't understand why it's this confusing, they sound 65% alike. As a fan of both I instantly recognized that it's Xtina. When has Mimi ever been known to do this: 0:18 - 0:21 ? NEVER!

This is awesome, and has totally made my day... I had no idea that she did this song! And even tho I haven't heard but a few seconds of her singing, she has blown every other version way out the fucking water! It says on Wikipedia that she did this cover in 1988 (when I was born!!!) :)

    So Mariah's stans think this sounds amazing just because it has "Mariah" in the title? lol This proves that all the hate against Xtina's "horrible" technique is biased. This IS Xtina, specially at 0:19 but you just wont admit it because you would also have to admit that she sounds amazing which is something lambs are incapable to do.

    • @charak649
      @charak649 11 лет назад +27

      First of all, you can't say this is amazing because it's merely a 20 sec audio.
      Second of all, thinking that this sounds amazing doesn't prove anything.
      Third of all, CHRISTina's technique IS horrible, it's a fact not a "biased" opinion.
      Fourth of all, it's Mariah, Christina doesn't have an alto-like timbre like it's shown in the audio and at 0:19 the high belt sounds nothing like Christina's, it's neither raspy nor forced.
      Finally, us lambs are capable OF admitting that Christina sounds amazing...if she ever does :D

      unknown unknown Christina has amazing falsetto, transitions, and a soft voice, but her belts are usually strained and sound so painful. Though her tone is beautiful, if only she cared about her technique like in a few clips of her you can find in RUclips, she would sound much better and she wouldn’t have damaged her voice that quickly... sometimes she doesn’t respect her range and tries to go above which is taking a toll on her voice, I’m glad she’s starting to care for her voice and dodge notes. Though, she really needs to stop straining.

    • @SundriedSage
      @SundriedSage 7 лет назад +2

      Char AK it’s Christina but it’s just an audio file that’s edited and exported in horrible quality to make it sound like it was recorded in the 80’s... Fits (suits her life at the current era) :) like for Memoirs "I want to know what love is" well she got pregnant :) lol

  • @MarilynFinland
    @MarilynFinland 13 лет назад

    @MarilynFinland It also raises questions such as why would a 16-year-old Mariah be recording an old song like At Last? For what purpose? As far as I know she was working on her own material at the time. And I disagree that Mariah wasn't trained before the age of 16. In interviews Mariah herself has said that she would ask Patricia to give her vocal training as a young child because she was so eager to sing. But she then gravitated away from strict training cos she's not that disciplined.

    @MarilynFinland I'd love Mariah to talk more about her early training and what exactly she used to do to train her voice because it would be interesting to know. But IMO it's very unlikely that Mariah didn't have proper training before the age of 16 cos only a year later she recorded "Weakness Of The Body" (and at 18 she was signed). It's clear that she was already a very talented singer; she had great control, range and stylistically she was, you know, getting there.

    Everyone is free to think whatever they want. In my opinion the clip is way too short to be absolutely certain that this is in fact a 16-year-old Mariah singing the song. Could be. But the only part that I think is "Mariahesque" is the "yeah" part. Then again pretty much any semi-talented female singer could easily stylize the "yeah" that way. Besides many female singers, when they sing in their mix, have a very similar tone too. I personally don't think it's her.

    Oui, c'est vrai que le "yeeeah" de la fin aurait pu être de Christina, mais ce n'est pas la voix de Christina justement.

    Yes. Thank you. Clear distinction. I don't understand the debate.

    Agreed, although this does sound a little bit like Kelly Clarkson. I hope its Mariah. It shocks me that there is no unreleased Mariah stuff out there really, apart from like one or two tracks.

    you're wrong.
    ^_^
    it isn't Mariah.
    listen to the undertones carefully.
    Had Mariah so much as attempted to render this song,it'd would have become a hit single and would've made it on the track-list of her first record.
    i mean look at 'I'll Be There' with Trey Lorenz, it was an impromptu performance at one of her first live performances in 1992.
    it became so big that they actually had to release the whole show as an album - 'MTV Unplugged EP'.

    It's a bit hard to say whether it's not her tone or not because the volume is so low and the quality sucks but it sounds closer to Christina than Mariah (to my ears anyway).

    @supersallyjackson its not about octaves its about delivering and Christina can deliver like no one else...so suck on that

    ok so it may not have been impromptu, my syntax was erroneous.
    what i was trying to say was that,
    It was a strategy on Sony Music's part to prove to the world that Mariah Carey could really sing live, since she had been declining to tour up until then.
    it was her first full live performance/ tour-ish.
    Her rendition of 'I'll Be There' is the sole reason for Sony Music releasing the whole thing as an album.
    the song went on to become her 6th no.1 single on the Billboard charts.

    This sounds like Christina, not Mariah.I believe she did the backgrounds for the brenda song though.

    How can the vocals be smooth and rough? Those are two complete opposites. Christina's real voice is naturally sweet and smooth.

    I don't think it's Mariah. The beginning low notes are terrible and off key. Especially because at :15 the low notes are sharp, weak, and terrible. And in weakness of the body and her debut her low notes were 100x better than this.

    I'm sure it's Mariah's voice; she sounded a little bit different when she was younger, but it's still her texture voice especially at 0:17, it clearly sounds like her.
    Whatever, it doesn't sound like Christina's voice at all. The vocals on the video are too sweet, smooth and rough to be Christina's. I'm 100% sure of that.
