Also, Whitney started her career earlier and performed many more concerts than Mariah, and Mariah's voice may be lighter and not strong as Whitney's. I am not going to speak on substance abuse.
Hands down this song is Mariah Carey's best song of all time. This song has everything, great lyrics, great sound, great voice, great instrumentals, everything about this song is perfection. Utter perfection. Timeless classic!! Should have been #1 on the charts.

She came out with her self titled debut album in 1990 , then came out with Emotions in 1991 and this is the song that made me a Fan . I use to be like” Wow that Lady can really sing”. I went back and researched the top 150 songs of the 90s. Carey was absolutely untouchable with more songs than any other artist and it wasn't close. And what's really amazing is no song is like another. Most artists have a sound. You almost know it's them before they start singing Carey did ballads, easy listening, inspirational, funky dance, doo-wop, Christmas. She was all over the place. But to me, this piece with this video was the most memorable.

Ahh yes...the good old days. I can still remember being in 5th grade in 1989/1990 and listening to the radio every single night to go to sleep. Back then there was so much good music on the radio. Completely opposite of what's on the radio today. Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston were all regulars on the radio back then. Amazing how 3 of the best voices of ALL TIME were all having their careers at basically the same time. I used to listen to this stuff to put me to sleep at night. Back when people in this country were actually nice once in a while. People were so much more laid back and relaxed back then. I miss those days so badly. Sounds exactly how I remember it, thanks for the flashback. This younger generation just does not understand how good it once was and how well most people got along with one another. That was before "smart" phones took over. Sadly being a basketcase and creating as much chaos and turmoil (when many of us want to be left out of it) seems to be the only they would prefer to live, if you can call it that. "70s-80s nostalgic beat," If I am correct, the synthesizer used was first on the scene in the late 70s by other artists. You can hear some of Keith Sweat in the beginning-and he used it in 87. This jazz arrangement was popular on many quiet storm jazz radio stations. Also, musicians primarily use what is popular at the time. Most studios don't have the money to keep up with so many different instruments or changing soundboard as often. Now, I know she had access to things because of her label-but most musicians will use a current sound-the same way car companies have similar looking cars like their competitors. "Beautiful woman in anguish" I've seen it a lot. It's called student loans lol and to also mention yes-those instruments were used in the 90s. So you both were right. Right on.

I went back and researched the top 150 songs of the 90s. Carey was absolutely untouchable with more songs than any other artist and it wasn't close. And what's really amazing is no song is like another. Most artists have a sound. You almost know it's them before they start singing Carey did ballads, easy listening, inspirational, funky dance, doo-wop, Christmas. She was all over the place. But to me, this piece with this video was the most memorable.

Ahh yes...the good old days. I can still remember being in 5th grade in 1989/1990 and listening to the radio every single night to go to sleep. Back then there was so much good music on the radio. Completely opposite of what's on the radio today. Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston were all regulars on the radio back then. Amazing how 3 of the best voices of ALL TIME were all having their careers at basically the same time. I used to listen to this stuff to put me to sleep at night. Back when people in this country were actually nice once in a while. People were so much more laid back and relaxed back then. I miss those days so badly. Sadly being a basketcase and creating as much chaos and turmoil (when many of us want to be left out of it) seems to be the only they would prefer to live, if you can call it that. I miss the t.v. shows and some of the fashions, cars too.

I want to throw my 2 cents in. First let me break down the question and answer in sections, then as a whole. "Timeless emotion of unrequited love" check. I get that. "70s-80s nostalgic beat," If I am correct, the synthesizer used was first on the scene in the late 70s by other artists. You can hear some of Keith Sweat in the beginning-and he used it in 87. This jazz arrangement was popular on many quiet storm jazz radio stations. Also, musicians primarily use what is popular at the time. Most studios don't have the money to keep up with so many different instruments or changing soundboard as often. Now, I know she had access to things because of her label-but most musicians will use a current sound-the same way car companies have similar looking cars like their competitors. "Beautiful woman in anguish" I've seen it a lot. It's called student loans lol and to also mention yes-those instruments were used in the 90s. So you both were right. Right on.
