You can really hear the divine in her voice! I tried to sing this gorgeous song, it’s not perfect like Mariah of course but it would mean a lot to me if you saw my attempt🤗😆
+meegikwang That is just plain wrong. Mariah sang this in the same key for several performances (the last performance in the studio key was her Thanksgiving Concert, and her Daydream performances that were not in the studio key were some of her best in her entire career, the key is irrelevant). She has added three different varieties of intro whistles only heard live for the VoL performances of 1990 GMA, 1999 Homecoming Special, and 2005 BET Blueprint. She even recreated the 1999 intro whistle in 2015 and 2016. In 2006 Pepsi Smash, she did phrased whistles for "sweet" and "Yes you did!" She doesn't phrase anything in the whistle register in this studio version, only live. The Pepsi Smash performance has literally 3 different whistles in it. In her Charmbracelet tour she did end whistles in basically every performance of the tour after the sustained belt. In many 1990 performances, she does a 10-note legato arpeggio in under 3 seconds on the final climatic "love". She extended the 3:01 "all" cyclic runs in her 1990 GMA and 1990 Tattoo Club performance where she did it much longer, showing even more stamina than she does in the studio version. In one of the two Arsenio Hall performances she ends the cyclic runs with an even faster inflection with this sequence (B4-B4-C5-B4-G#4-F#4-E4-F#4-F#4-E4-C#4) and then descends the run down to E3 that is perfectly timed and done in under 5 seconds, no amateur singer like Regine Velasquez could do that. And these are all from undubbed, 100% live performances, so you'd be delusional to deny. Besides, she has a beautifully done acapella that you can hear nothing but her beautiful voice that you so want to delegitimize. You can see for yourself: 1990 GMA: /watch?v=yAuYu9n48WU 1999 Homecoming Special: /watch?v=tXcLnDh26Kg 2005 BET Blueprint Special: /watch?v=bb7WIjXSI_A 2015 recreation of 1999 intro: /watch?v=U59y8ZjDl-s 2016 recreation of 1999 intro: /watch?v=CnQ2MRerORk 2006 Pepsi Smash: /watch?v=R_NyeF2UNuI [check any Charmbracelet tour performance of the many with ending whistles] [check 1990 Grammys and Apollo Theatre performances for legato arpeggios and other ones in Arsenio] 1990 Tattoo Club undubbed: /watch?v=rSiAt2QB2XY Arsenio Hall breakdown: /watch?v=zBoiejGUnVU VoL acapella: /watch?v=wadgbF5laWo Many great acapellas here but a VoL semiacapella/acoustic at 2:05: /watch?v=WbamxLthW3Q

I remember the first time I heard this. I was with my mom and when it got to the bridge she was like "WHO IS THIS?" She had to find out who this "Mariah Carey" was. The rest is history.
My experience was quite similar. My mother asked me to come sit in front of her speakers and close my eyes. She asked me if I had ever heard of a girl with the first or maybe last name of Carey, and I said no, she smiled and said, your gonna love this......and she was right.... I was completely blown away by the range and sweet tones even during transition, very very special..:)

Imagine if she released this blockbuster song in 1989. She could have been the only artist at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 for five decades. Just WOW for this legendary woman!!!
Tim Dewano Yes, you can. You’re just too dumb to understand my point. I quite obviously meant that you can always play “what if?” scenarios with singles and albums, and if it had been released differently. For example, Madonna would’ve easily become the first act the top the Hot 100 in 4 different decades if she had made a better choice for the lead single to MDNA to coincide with her Super Bowl performance in 2012.
@@PDC1987 well that's too far fetched. His point is totally make sense and probable considering that Mariah herself recorded this song at 1989, but due to label stuff this was released at 1990. So, IF that so called "label stuff" was faster enough, this hit could've been released at 1989. But still, this song might/might not be #1 at 1989. So this is all makes sense
My two cents: Her debut through Butterfly is undoubtedly her best voice, with Music Box through Daydream being the peak for me. She continued to show us why we call her the Songstress Supreme through her lyricism and musicality with Music Box. She earned the title of Queen of Christmas with unsurpassed vocals in Merry Christmas. She portrayed why she is the Queen of Melisma in a way she hadn't since Vision of Love with her album Daydream. Music Box might be my favorite. There's just something about the crisp, clear, cutting resonance of Endless Love.

Her vocal range is not from this planet……. A true gift,
She wrote this at age of 17. Wow! ❤
This lady left an impression on a 10 year old boy that loves to sing. She is a miracle and truly was anointed with the gift of song. What a timeless masterpiece. 🙏

Before this came out there was no Mariah Carey. This was an epic introduction to her vocal talent and style. There have been great singers before, but in terms of such a signature technique and style, there's only one Mariah Carey.
All thumbs way UP!😃❤👍👍😃❤👍👍
Ummm, go back and listen to Barbara Streisand's early albums.
@@jeffwilliams1356 Streisand is a unique talent and like Carey, can hit high notes on key... but I am not sure if anyone besides you would suggest they have the same style. I can't even recall Streisand being that melismatic, but I gather you know her catalog better than I do. Would you please refer me to specific songs?
@@calokid Delicate, then powerful, then crazy range are both characteristics of this Mariah song and Barbara's ruclips.net/video/qI1WcylNEuY/видео.html&ab_channel=ARBINORA
@@jeffwilliams1356 Agreed on those similar vocal qualities.
Guilty is the one Streisand album I have listened to recently. Also, "Superman" came to mind because she hits a high note so perfectly. When you said "early", however, I thought you meant her '60s albums, which I don't know as well.
This song sounds so good to me all these years later. I get chills just listening to it.

One of her best songs. What an amazing debut.
After reading her autobiography, I truly understand her lyrics and her as an artist and person better. This song was a genius.
Mariah Carey, hailed as the Songbird Supreme, stands unrivaled as one of the greatest singer of all time, if not the greatest. It was this very song that catapulted her not just to superstardom but paved the way for an enduring and illustrious 33-plus year career. Hail, the queen.
Best debut by a female artist periodt.
I remember 30 years ago. I was only 8 years old, I was up late watching MTV on a Friday night. I saw this video and told my cousin, my mom, and my uncle to come here and look at this pretty girl slinging. Everybody was impressed. I had a crush on her too.

We know😂
Absolutely
To this day, this song still gives me goosebumps!
Probably this song has one of the most amazing climax ever.

Friedrich Nothing You can literally say things like that about any artist.
Isn’t it 3 decades?
Hopefully that is gonna happen in by 2030😃
Does anyone else think Mariah's debut voice was the best?
Me! 🙏 Love it
+Terra Realm Glitter and Charmbracelet too !!
+WindowVoid Yeah.
Actually her debut voice was at 4 years old. lol
The song that inspired Beyoncé to start singing. She's a legend of legends! And she can still sing it like this 30 years later!
