I swear when I heard this in 1990 on the radio, I knew this was it. I never heard such a skilled female voice before. This is her best song to this day. it still is her best.
You've never heard of Whitney Houston? Diana Ross? Patti La Belle? Donna Summer? Annie Haslam? ALL of them were heavy hitting singers, luminaries of their respective times. The last one might be a niche singer (60s to early 70s rock) but her range, vocal clarity, sheer ability - a match for any of them, and all of them came before Mariah.

My experience was quite similar. My mother asked me to come sit in front of her speakers and close my eyes. She asked me if I had ever heard of a girl with the first or maybe last name of Carey, and I said no, she smiled and said, your gonna love this......and she was right.... I was completely blown away by the range and sweet tones even during transition, very very special..:)

Mariah sang this in the same key for several performances (the last performance in the studio key was her Thanksgiving Concert, and her Daydream performances that were not in the studio key were some of her best in her entire career, the key is irrelevant). She has added three different varieties of intro whistles only heard live for the VoL performances of 1990 GMA, 1999 Homecoming Special, and 2005 BET Blueprint. She even recreated the 1999 intro whistle in 2015 and 2016. In 2006 Pepsi Smash, she did phrased whistles for "sweet" and "Yes you did!" She doesn't phrase anything in the whistle register in this studio version, only live. The Pepsi Smash performance has literally 3 different whistles in it. In her Charmbracelet tour she did end whistles in basically every performance of the tour after the sustained belt. In many 1990 performances, she does a 10-note legato arpeggio in under 3 seconds on the final climatic "love". She extended the 3:01 "all" cyclic runs in her 1990 GMA and 1990 Tattoo Club performance where she did it much longer, showing even more stamina than she does in the studio version. In one of the two Arsenio Hall performances she ends the cyclic runs with an even faster inflection with this sequence (B4-B4-C5-B4-G#4-F#4-E4-F#4-F#4-E4-C#4) and then descends the run down to E3 that is perfectly timed and done in under 5 seconds, no amateur singer like Regine Velasquez could do that. And these are all from undubbed, 100% live performances, so you'd be delusional to deny. Besides, she has a beautifully done acapella that you can hear nothing but her beautiful voice that you so want to delegitimize.

I remember 30 years ago. I was only 8 years old, I was up late watching MTV on a Friday night. I saw this video and told my cousin, my mom, and my uncle to come here and look at this pretty girl slinging. Everybody was impressed. I had a crush on her too.

I will never forget the first time I heard this song. I was on my way from Mississippi to St.Louis with my family for our annual family reunion. it was a 6 hour trip and somewhere during that time, this song came on the radio and I was instantly wowed and hooked. I remember thinking, "Who is this?" OMG, what a voice!" I just knew this song was going to be a hit! By the time my family and I returned home in two weeks, Vision of Love by Mariah Carey was the #1 song in the country. I can't explain it but I was so happy about that and for her. I really was an instant fan of hers and couldn't wait to hear what she did next. And boy did she deliver! Hit after hit! Over and over and over and....well you know how she completely dominated and topped the charts for 3 decades. She truly is a Legend and The Queen of Music. Period!

I see why South Americans Praise her so Much She's Clearly Latino. Latino Means different things. Ethnicity is not set in stone, Latino is a race of mixed cultures and Mariah Carey is it. My personal opinion after seeing this video is she's a Fair Skinned, fair skinned latino's have greater European descent Latinos with African tones, if She Didn't have an American Accent you wouldn't doubt my views on it
There will never be a singer like Mariah Carey. Not only is she gifted with a gorgeous and uncopy-able voice but with an amazing songwriting ability. There will never be a song like this ever again. It truly speaks to my soul, it's not sad nor happy, it's just an unexplainable and spiritual piece of music that is gonna be forever remembered and loved in the music history. (Sorry for my rant)
