The writers had to rush to scramble something together from scratch using the animatronics and set pieces the crew had. Apparently the script was even changed on-the-fly WHILE they were filming. According to Joe Johnston, a final draft of the script was never completed.
Joe Johnston had an original script, far more complete, including a Raptors v Spinosaurus scene, a Mosasaurus scene and a final action scene with the Pteradons attacking the helicopters at the end. And the Spino vs T Rex battle was intentionally meant to happen far later. Unfortunately, Universal refused, and judged this too ambitious...
The actor who played Erik also played in Mean Creek, The Glass House, and Barney's Great Adventure: The Movie. But the movies I think Trevor Morgan played best are The Patriot and Jurassic Park III.

For people who dislike the spinosaurus and want a rematch where the T-Rex wins, I wanted to mention something and I really hope someone could get this idea out there. Now, my favorite dinosaur is the spinosaurus, accurate and fiction. It did not bother me that it killed a random T-Rex in JP3. I've heard the spino was meant to be in Fallen Kingdom, which I would have loved to see, but not in the scene it was meant to be in. What it would've been in would be a fight with Rexy, who is an extremely important character in the whole franchise, from being the T-Rex in the first movie to being a more ally-like and likeable dinosaur/character later in JW. She is a big role in the movie. But, I would argue so is the JP3 Spinosaurus. I wouldn't want either of them specific two to fight, because one would most likely have to die off. I don't want Rexy nor JP3 Spino to die off. I love them both. If they do have a battle in between the two, whichever dies should be a random Spino or Rex. Example, Rexy killing a random Spino (preferably that is distinctly different by colors or whatnot) or JP3 Spinosaurus killing a random T-Rex. Neither of these should die off. I love them both. Although I do think the Tyrannosaurus Rex is an extremely overrated dinosaur, Rexy is a major and favorable character. It wouldn't be right for her to die off, ESPECIALLY with her being the very first Rex in the franchise. Same goes for the Spinosaurus. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the T-Rex, but the Spinosaurus is my overall favorite, over every dinosaur. This is how I think the situation with the two should be handled. If fans want a T-Rex to win over a Spinosaurus, please do not make it the JP3 Spino, and same goes for a win over a T-Rex. It really depends the closest answer is that regular guns can fire after being sumerged as long as its only being a few minutes and not hours... So theoretically it probably could. But trying to find that answer is harder than the answer to the "can you shoot a flare gun underwater" spoiler alert you can't.
I would not have done the slow motion footage. It just doesn't work. I kept the Ceratosaurus scene but I changed the audio... which is the main problem to me in that scene... the sounds are so goofy during the poop search and Ceratosaurus scene. I kept some tiny bits of Charlie & Ellie in the attack scene. Charlie picks up the phone and sees his mom outside and then turns and walks on... and just before he was gonna turn and walk into the sittingroom I cut it. Then later he gives the phone to Ellie outside. Charlie making dinosaur sounds is cut too. I cut Alan with the water near his lips saying Site B the river and put the rest of that shot with the phone going under water at that spot where Charlie would have been. Works perfectly.

Considering this is an island off Costa Rica with all the terrains this island has (as seen in Jurassic park 2-3) even with the distance why no one had tried to colonize it ages ago.
The jungles were not safe. Even if they could avoid the Raptors they would still have deal with aggressive herbivores munching there way through the undergrowth. Ankys and Stegos while herbivores are just as dangerous. There was also the added risk of running into another rex.

You had the brains to create me and my kin from mosquitoes and frog , converted me into a 800ton , 30 ft high monster with dozen of sharp serrated teeth, claws which can remove skin to the bone , scales which can stop cannon fire,. The logic was totally missing. It's is river or sea? How was the biggest dinosaur hide under the water? Then you see the next seen dinosaur standing the water level was in its leg how it is possible?
Spinosaurus was aquatic and lived in river deltas. It was also 60ft long and 16 feet high more or less. The river itself was probably 60 to 70ft deep but not on all sides. So all it had to do was swim to shallower area of the river and walk out.
