- What’s happening in this Jurassic Park III movie clip?
Alan realises that the deposit on the handrail is bird excrement, and that they are actually in a giant birdcage... for pteranodons. Eric (Trevor Morgan) is picked up by a mama bird and dropped on a cliff perch, evidently as food for some hatchlings. He runs but there is no way down. Billy (Alessandro Nivola from Disobedience and Laurel Canyon) is determined to save him, and jumps off a bridge using the parasail - Eric grabs on and they continue to descend the canyon. Eric falls and makes it to shore, but Billy's parachute gets hung up on the side of a cliff face, with an angry ptero harassing him. Amanda gets to Eric, but he is concerned for Billy, and has to be pulled away to safety. Amanda and Eric leave through the gate, but it does not latch behind them. Billy manages to unbuckle his harness and fall into the water, but the fliers are quickly after him. Alan and Paul run down, but he yells at them to get away. A group of the pteranodons are quickly after him, and the water around him runs red. A ptero turns a hostile eye on the two men, and they beat a hasty retreat, plunging into the water and swimming out from under the cage wall.

The Jurassic Park movies just have this sense of adventure and danger that the Jurassic World movies seem to be lacking.

I 100% agree. I think that there is something of a lost art to movie making from the times of the 90s to the 2020s. The Jurassic World movies have a need to oversaturate the audience with too many shots of the dinosaurs, too much CGI with less of a focus on building a decent storyline, building the suspense before the monster appears. That is why Spielberg's classics like Jaws and Jurassic Park 1 and 2 will always be timeless classics whereas Jurassic World 1 and 2 will be long forgotten in years to come.
Let's hope we get a little bit of that with the Dominion movie.

I fully agree with you. I actually loved JP3, as with JP1 and JP2. The Jurassic World movies are big disappointment as I feel that they have killed the franchise and lost the magic that Spielberg created.

This was my favorite as a kid, couldn’t get enough of it, and I love the atmosphere of this scene as well

I was half expecting a smile and a soft "hiiii", perhaps with a little hand wave.
Instead, we get the hard stare and the squinty eyes, like "Yeah, you'd *better* run"...

well it’s Jurassic Park, a huge ass birdcage isn’t exactly gonna hold finches, and she wasn’t the biggest dinosaur expert since she was screaming into the megaphone an hour back…
I'm happy that the Pteranodons finally had some screentime in JP3 considering that they barely appeared in the previous movies (with the exception of a small cameo at the end of LW) add to the fact that they spend most of their screentime attacking the human characters during this scene makes them even more iconic and unforgettable.
I have always loved this movie more than part 2: the lostworld

Another Jurassic movie with a kid that doesn't know the value of moving slowly and not screaming bloody murder.
So kids are supposed to be experts in these situations with large creatures coming towards them? Since when exactly? See plenty of kids running like that in real life from animals... kind of a thing.

This was the first film I’ve seen from the franchise and this scene by far was the most terrifying to as a kid.

@@deniz1473 Probably, if not for the fact that these are caged birds, having to survive on whatever scrap of food that wandered to their cage over the years. It's no wonder they'd hunt humans which for them is as good as any meat.

I’m amazed that Ingen has great relationships with engineers and contractors that were able to construct all the infrastructure of Jurassic Park.

the dinosaurs in this universe were hybrid mutations created by ingen, crossbred genetics w other animal DNA to create the dinos. flesh eating spinosaurus and the featherless raptors are a result of this
The DNA scientists in this universe *obviously* screwed up in creating all of these dinosaurs.

0:10 For the few of you who have the reference, this scene of the Pteranodon appearing on the bridge in the mist is very similar to the apparition of Nosferatu in the video game Resident Evil Code Veronica, released one year prior to this movie. It might be a coincidence, or not.
Similarly, the beginning of this movie has a character named Cooper eaten by the Spinosaurus. The intro of the video game Dino Crisis, released two years before this movie, also had a man named Cooper chased and eaten by a big carnivorous dinosaur in a similar way (although it was a T-Rex, not a Spino).
