    Fibroids DO cause water retention which can make you look bigger (overweight), fibroids feed off Estrogen which is found in blood, which can make you feel like your eating for two (this can also make you gain weight) the fluctuations of hormones make you hungry when you have fibroids (so this is not your fault for overeating) especially if you have premenstrual syndrome where some tend to get water retention on and off period and eat more, Also fibroids cause your womb to expand, if this doctor is saying it’s the size of an apple or smaller, your womb still recognises something is inside it and will adjust its self, like your womb would to make a child. which can make you look bigger. FIBROIDS DO CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN
    1) water retention
    2) overeating (not your fault)
    3) womb adjusting due to fibroids
    Everyone’s body is different and reacts to things differently the doctor above is expressing her medical opinion, but has she ever had fibroids to know or understand why people are asking her why they are gaining weight?? Truth be told the body is a complex wonder and everyone is different. we still don’t know how fibroids started or where they came from centuries ago, hence the reason why many are resorting to surgery to remove them, the problem has not been fixed. So to say it don’t cause weight gain would be for you, to have the cure which you don’t or the answer, everyone body is different, that’s all I’m saying

      Yes, fibroids are complex! Swelling, bloating, and some water retention can occur, sure, but my point is you're not going to lose 20 lbs after removing your 1 lb fibroid

      @nichelleellette6177 I just had an open myomectomy 7 days ago and I have suffered from everything you mentioned above during the last year without feeling understood or contained, I even received answers from doctors who explained to me that the weight gain was because of my age (34 years old), when I never weighed more than 65 kilograms. I also received inadequate treatments with hormones to "try to control the bleeding" and improve my anemia in order to be able to have surgery, the contraceptives did not work, they brought me more pain, heavy bleeding, and more weight gain (I gained approximately 15 kilograms). So I can relate to what you wrote. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this subject. Greetings from a Venezuelan in Argentina. A big hug 4 U.

      Fibroids impact all women but disproportionately black women more. Black women’s and bodies are different the best person to talk to is a person who has actually went through the procedure and your physician.

    Helpful video.
    I just had hysterectomy surgery, my fibroids weighed 691grams. For my size I literally looked like I was 8mths pregnant. The doctors said they don’t kno how I was able to function with that in me. I’m looking forward to my stomach going down during this recovery time.

    I did myomectomy exactly 6 weeks ago. Lost 6kg after the surgery. I'm really struggling to loose 4kg more, but so far, I've not been able. Maybe I may have to cut off carbs from my diet. I weighed 82kg before surgery, but now I'm 76kg.

      What was the the size of fibroid?
      I’m 33years old I have 6cm fibroid, I don’t get my periods on time, feel pressure on pelvic area, all the time pain in left leg and worst part is I have gained 18kg weight

      @@Adventurousmanushya I can’t really say, but when the surgeon was palpitating me, he told the anesthesiologist that it was same as a six month old pregnancy. The tumor was massive.
      Another thing that contributed to the weight loss was because I was strictly on infusion for a week.

    Hi Doc,
    I am scheduled for partial hysterectomy in a month. I have multiple fibroid and cyst on one of my ovaries. My question is will I gain weight after the surgery, there are some videos claiming that increase in cortisol levels and decreased estrogen causes weight gain after hysterectomy. Wanted to ask you if this is a fact. Also, after the surgery will I have side effects, if so what are they?? I am 40 and my question is will have hormonal issues? Thanks

    • @TheFibroidDoc
      @TheFibroidDoc  24 дня назад

      No hormonal issues. Make sure you eat and move well after surgery. Weight gain is not automatic after surgery, unless your lifestyle is so.

    They say my fibroid is “at least 17 cm & has occupied the entire space of the womb”. Or like I’m 6 months pregnant. It sure feels like a big weight in there! I would love to know how much weight is currently crushing my bladder & making me need to pee 24/7 😅

    I have another question for you, which may be another interpretationofthe question that your title poses:
    Will weight loss likely be easier to achieve, after fibroid removal?
    Or, is there a chance the hormones will stay out of wack, and continue to pose challenges to that objective?
    Also, are you a surgeon?
    And, where do you practice?
    I hope that you hit the lecture circuit!
    Thanks for this video.

    • @TheFibroidDoc
      @TheFibroidDoc  Месяц назад

      Weight loss overall is unaffected by fibroid removal (unless your fibroids weight a lot!). I took out 7 lbs worth of fibroids for someone recently, so yes, that patient would lose weight! There can be general inflammatory markers associated with fibroids as well, but in that case a hysterectomy is what would help, not just removal of the fibroids. Yes, I'm a surgeon. I practice in CA, and I do give talks!
