You could've reloaded it faster if you just lowered it offscreen, dubbed in a stock reloading sound, and then raised up a fully loaded shotgun. That's how the old pros used to do it, after all.
Why reloading whe the really old pros just pumped the shotgun in choppy motions and they didn't have to reload it? I know that old technique only shoots the pellets horizontally, but isn't it better?
Yes! I only just learned it has a semi-automatic mode, in fact that's how it's primarily used! I feel so robbed on Gordon Freeman's behalf, he's the only character in Half-Life and Half-Life 2 who can't use it that way, everyone else does 😂
Pump action, semi auto, using the bolt release, and even animating light struggles to feed in the shells. Layzuh, _you're a gem within the animation community._ The voice acting has been a nice touch, too! You never cease to amaze. Keep it up! c:
Just like the Tau Cannon and Gluon Gun were classified experimental weapons, Black Mesa also worked on some experimental modifications for more conventional weapons. Like a Beretta M9 loaded in 5.56x45 and a SPAS-12 capable of firing two rounds at the same time from a single barrel
I almost thought he miscounted after the second reload cuz I only saw him load shells three times until I realzied he did the double shell load because literally no one every does that. Bravo to you cat dude, another masterpiece.

Looking at this animation, I can't help but wonder just how... *_agonizing_* it would be to have your claws snag onto anything while doing things like that...
Idk why but for some reason I love the little tap of the gun at 0:18, something about the little idle motion while thinking about ammo paired with how weighty it is just gets to me, well done well done
I'm so proud that my technique is catching on, finally being able to bring the SPAS-12 more into the modern era, and show that the reload of is not as much of an issue as people have made it out to be over the years has been my goal since I've owned one. This is the first correct animation I have seen. Keep doing what you are doing, I hope more animators follow in your footsteps. Top notch work my friend.
The only thing I could point out is the pump will lock back on empty in pump mode, just like the bolt does in semi auto, and you have to push the bolt release to let it go forward again, in your animation, the character quickly moves the pump and almost appears to "palm" the bolt release, which would let the pump close. So it is acceptable, as that is how I emulate the "black ops" fancy reload in real life. I'm really impressed. Thanks for taking the time to research how to reload the old girl properly. So satisfying. I'm gonna sit here and watch this a few dozen times or more. So awesome.
@@Joseph_Hartmann Was just about to say that myself coming back here, as that’s the only inaccuracy in this animation, which makes it the most accurate SPAS-12 animation yet.
@@gameragodzilla there's also one little thing at the beginning where they load the fist round into the chamber,, the pump doesn't move with the bolt while it is jn pump action, but these are minor things that only people who have spent alot of time with one would know so I don't fault it. I like that you did a proper animation for switching between semi auto and pump action for the spas 12. It has also been said that shotgun is difficult to reload in real life (probably not made any better when taking into account that most of those guns are well over 30 years old by now) according to those who have fired them.
@@dkskcjfjswwwwwws413 I own a SPAS-12 and it’s fine, though some ergonomics are weird due to being an older shotgun. Once you have the necessary parts replaced and some training, it’s perfectly good.
I remember when I found layzuhcatz from the SFM steam community page. it was a post of his tennet reload. Ive been watching every video from layzuhcatz ever since then.
Oh you were SO close to perfection. There are only two things you missed: when in pump mode, you must press the bolt release as well as pulling the pump slide forward when loading one shell through the ejection port. When in pump mode, the bolt will not automatically close as the pump adds more mass to the recoil spring. The other thing is, the bolt locks open even in pump mode which means you would need to press the bolt release again after firing the last round. That being said, this is the absolute closest to reality SPAS-12 manual of arms animations I've seen yet. Source: Proud SPAS-12 owner.

Good ol' Spas12 - such a pain in the ass to operate, yet looks cool as hell. And by design, too! They wanted it to have an intimidation factor for police and special forces in hopes it would dissuade enemy combatants. Man this is probably my favorite out of the masterpieces this guy has made, It's really smooth, also, I love the gloves and the red watch the character is wearing, gives it a more tactical apearence.
Actually, you just need to push and hold the bolt release to unlock the loading gate and feed the gun, which they did in both reloads. The second is using my technique, using the weight of the shotgun to push the bolt release on the left hand while violin loading, I have a handy video of this on my channel that shows all of this. The other button on the shotgun is a magazine cutoff, for when you want to quickly drop a slug or less than lethal round in the chamber, without feeding a shell from the magazine. This animation is near perfect. Just a couple minor slip ups like the actiom slide not moving with the bolt in the first reload, and then the pump not locking back on empty, but I will excuse that one as it happens fast enough that they could have easily palmed the bolt release on the rearward stroke.
@@or6060 no, the button on the left side of the reciever is the one you have to press, the one on the breech side which is visible while loading in this animation is the magazine cut off.

Your animation style is absolutely great. It's crisp yet smooth and has that really nice visual identity. And FINALLY, I've found one where the user actually holds down the bolt release. Thank you.
Btw, for people who wonder why the SPAS-12 needs to hold down the bolt release to load whereas other semi auto shotguns don’t: It’s a holdover from an older design. The way the bolt hold open works is the carrier latch gets pushed in if there’s still a shell in the mag tube to eject, but doesn’t move and blocks the lifter if the mag tube is empty, which connects to another part of the fire control unit that locks the bolt. All the bolt release does is manually push in the carrier latch to allow the lifter to move again. Modern semi-auto shotguns like the Benelli M4 also functions the same way, but they add extra pieces to keep the carrier latch pushed in when the hammer is cocked. That’s also why you can’t chamber a round from the tube until you either pull the trigger or hit the shell release to pop out a shell as well as pop out the carrier latch. It’s also why you can’t push the lifter up when the hammer is down unless you push in the bolt release. Definitely a lot more convenient which is why all modern semi-auto shotguns work this way, but unfortunately the SPAS-12 design pre-dates that and is no longer in production to receive any updates. Most older semi-auto shotguns also function the same way, but they don’t have anywhere near the pop culture fame of the SPAS-12, so all those shotguns are long forgotten making the SPAS-12 seem like the only shotgun with this archaic loading method. Luckily, with training, like the Hartmann technique from my buddy, you can still make it work.
