One thing to be aware of when installing this carb to that intake manifold. (at least with the one I have which is probably the same one everybody has..GPS or GSP is written on it...) The O-ring on the carb is really close to the same size of the opening on the intake. You really need to install the carb on the intake before you install the intake to the engine. That way you can look into the intake and center it up on the O-ring for a symmetric fit when clocking the carb. I bet if you looked inside that intake from the side that mounts to the engine looking toward the carb, It would be off center in relation to the O-ring and the opening in general. You can end up with an intake leak.
Ok yes this is what is Happening with mine after install … it looked lined up but when I started it was bogging then it started leaking fuels from around the filter … so do I need to align it again ?????
Thank you so much I did not know the O-ring is suppose to be centered with the intake pipe. Now that makes sense why you install the Carburator onto the intake onto the head engine in this order. I was having trouble getting my engine to run from reving up on its own and abnormal rpms adjusting my idle and air screw when I disassembled my intake from the head I did notice the o-ring on my carb was pinching on the bottom more than anywhere else around the circumference. I hope to get another chance getting my bike to run Thank You for this comment. 🏁
Hey Red Beard, because of your channel I myself bought my son a minibike and just finished building 1 for myself.. it’s all thanks to your videos and know how I was able to do this.. Thank you sooo much!!!
Well boys I’ve heard u don’t need to take the govner out because when u hook the vm22 carb up it cancels all that because it’s a different throttle set up hey u can try if u see it don’t work u can always take the govner out
@The Truth of the Matter generally you run your overflow right to the ground, taking care to avoid your exaust and anything else that might be hot. It should never leak fuel unless it's dirty or there's a problem with the float. 👍🏼
That cable-soldering tip was a good idea! I've been wrenching for a long time and I've never even seen/heard of that! I like learning stuff. Thanks man!
I have a stock 212 will I mess up the engine if I just throw a new carb on it and run. And do I have to do other things as well like flywheel, rods, piston?
Another huge problem with the stock ones which really isn't their fault is that when pushing the engine over their rev ranges the car can't keep up and it'll start leaning out, found that out by taking meat out of the governor
I don't mean to be critical, but you spend time on the obvious things like the air filter, but you never mention the fuel hose or those two pink hoses on the carb. Where do they go?
Just got my predator Gov out head ported and polished and big box of goodies be here tomorrow from go power sports with the makuni carb in it thanks red for confidence to do it
Hello rbg..I know prob a silly question but if gov is not removed witch way does the arm need to be..foward or back till.its almost hitting things insine??22mm on mine isn't getting wot cause my cable set up sux..lol..on a g1 cart..but it's way better with the Chinese knockoff.
hey red beard i was wondering if you could maybe make a short vid on how to tune the mikuni. i have a 212 also. mods are: mikuni 22mm, header, no gov, black mamba cam, billet flywheel, 26lb springs, arc rod, fuel pump& filter, i had the 130 main & 17.5 pilot in it but i put the stock jets back in. and ive tried moving the clip all the way up and down, ive screwed the air/fuel screw on the bottom of the carb all the way out to lean it out as much as possible and still every time i pull the plug its pitch black. it idles and runs fine tho. it doesnt cut out or backfire i can rev it to the moon and it keeps on going and doesn't fall flat. i just cant figure out why im still fouling the plug?. so yea man any info would help. oh yea and once the plug starts to foul of course it gets harder to start and i get (ALOT) of white smoke from the exhuast everytime i go to crank it. i thought white smoke was a lean problem??? so yea lol as you can see im a little confused. im assuming theres no way in hell the stock jets on the mikuni are to big for the mods i have. so yea any info you can give on how to tune these things would be much appriciated!. thank you!.
Just wondering the two hoses that I have left over after putting a aftermarket filter which are the crank case hose and I think valve cover hose at very front… they were both connected to old the airbox I have a 169cc “150cc” go kart
hey red beard, do i need a new throttle cable for the coleman ct200u? Its the only thing keeping me from getting a mikuni cuz I dont know anything about throttle cables or where to put the gov cable
I ordered a new makuni carb for my Coleman mini bike. But it doesn't come with the throttle cable.so I'm trying to figure out which cable to get.maybe you could give me some input on that.
i just did the header, intake and jet to my predator 212, Ive also put a zip tie through the governor spring. what would you suggest i do for my next engine modification?
As far as the different hoses on the Mikuni, how do we know which one gets connected to what? Dumb question, but it’s my first build. I’m installing a 24mm flat side to my 212.
One more question... is there some way to adjust idle on that carb? I put one on my predator, just like your video. But don't see how to adjust the idle. Thank you.
When you installed the cable on the slide atop the Mikuni, it looked like the sleeve was pulled away from the top of the carb. Is there a trick to seating it in place?
Whats the bottom hole on the carburator where it mounts to the manifold adapter. The plastic gasket doesn't cover the hole and gas pours out. Should I make a gasket to cover hole and clamp it down with the plastic Spacer gasket the one with o-ring
Red beard , so if I put a new mickini carb on , Do I have to buy a new cable to (bt200x) , or do I use the old one which came with the bike , I'm not knowing , please help ,Jay😊
Is the gasket between the manifold and cylinder necessary? Because believe i had a massive intake vacuum leak due to improper gasket installation. I took the gasket off and I'm about to order a new one but if I don't need it i will try running the engine without it.
I put mine all together and shoulda put it on a crate 😂 because i started it and it took off 😂 and climbed the wall......i have a 40’ cable and it looks good...im not sure where im going wrong adjusting it....its backed off as far as it can go...any ideas?
Notice how the idle rpm skyrockets (around time 14:12) when the choke/starter is engaged? How do you fix that? Mine revs so high with the choke on, it's a race to find that tiny little choke lever before the clutch engages and the minibike rides away from you!
I installed one of these like you did in the video. Although every time I start it up it Revs very high then when I turn the choke off it kills it! I’ve tried probably almost every adjustment possible on it. PLEASE help?!
After installing my mikuni carb, the motor took about 20 pulls to start, and then shut off quickly afterwards when I revved it a bit. Should I be worried?
Drill it out as big as the carb hole cause the motor hole is way bigger than the carb hole so you only want to go so far cause if you go farther you'll have vacuum leaks
Hey awesome build! Questions; do I have to get a billet flywheel and/or change valve springs just to safely remove the governor? Why 22mm carb? Why not like 30? Should I go with just a straight race clutch or 30 series torque converter? Why are they called TAVs? Are the "Stage" kits kind of a waste, being that you can order everything separate? I just got my predator 212 and installed it in a engine-less Baja(um I think...it only has one downtube on the frame and it has a bicycle style seat setup and no racks or anything so really I don't know by looking at the different types which one it is) I got super cheap. I'm thinking of just doing the easy bolt on stuff, filter, mikuni carb, header, the 80ish dollar torque converter on Amazon, then I have a used chain it came with, and the the back sprocket looks alright. Then I was gonna do the governor bypass, the one where you move the spring not the zip tie method. Any suggestions or tips?
Buy a Park Tool or similar cable cutter. It is a tool designed to specifically cut brake and shifter cable and will prevent fraying that happens when you cut with a regular pair of snips
I have two questions?? What do you connect the hoses that come off the carb?? Second and hopefully you can help me out. I had an oil leak on a predator. Replaced the crank case cover gasket and still have an oil leak. Have you had this issue? I looked all over and can figure out were it’s coming from. Any recommendations on what we should do to find the issue. Thanks before hand. Great channel
I just ordered the Mikuni kit from GoPowerSports. Where can I purchase the main carb jets? -- I do not see the carb jets listed for purchase from GoPowerSports.
Thanks for the kind reply. Actually, I am interested in purchasing a set of main jets (assortment of different sizes), to fine-tune the engine. I will be running the predator 212-Mikuni at high altitude (~6000 feet above sea-level), so a large main jet is likely not ideal for my setup (i.e., out-of-the-box, the fuel mixture of the Mikuni may be too rich at top end).
So I have a 22mm Mikuni carb on my 212 and it seems to be getting to much gas and it come out the overflow when I’m riding it or starting it up Any ideas
Hi I watch you video I doint want to Install a carburetor i bypassed the governor with a spring so if I installed this carburetor will It automatically by pass the governor
Stupid question but what did you use to make a gasket? Can i use a 12 pack beer cardboard box to make one and add some gasket maker? I am c9ncerned about vacuum leaks
Hey red beard first off I wanna say thanks for all your videos there great! I’m sorry if youve already answered this but I have a genuine mikuni vm22 carb I’m getting ready to put on my 212 with intake, header, governor removed and upgraded valve springs. I was wondering what size jets you think would work best? I live at 5000ft in Colorado. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Can you all do a 22mm Mikuni carb tune,..I'm getting a bog down after the fast torque convertor takeoff,..but I still have the box 212cc exhaust !! Is it enough exhaust for the Mikuni,..or does it need tuning ?
Are there by chance any experts on jetting Mikuni carbs out there? I am just having a hard time finding anything in my online searches that is helpful. Thanks in advance!
I got a mikuni carb for my predator 212cc. I have an aftermarket pipe. The carb is clean. It acts like it doesn't want to start. Then when I do get it started it idles high. I tried messing with the idle screw. Nothing. I tried messing with the air fuel mix screw. It makes it sound choppy. But it still idles high. I stood behind the bike and it throws the exhaust like baseballs. You can feel it hit you from 15ish feet back. But the 2nd I apply idle, it dies. But if I do a fast idle. It will go really high. My torque converter exploded. So I've only done it once.
@@RedBeardsGarage Hey red beard. I'm new to the kart stuff so I put the 22m carb on an now it idles up an when u press the gas pedal it dies? any ideas why?
I'm confused, just installed a Mikuni 22 on my Predator 212. 1 - Now, it runs great when the lever with rubber tip is up. Does that mean the choke is off? I've been researching this and there are opposing answers. 2 - it starts best in the mid position then I flip up, is that normal? Thanks :). (The engine is brand new, I removed the oil sensor and governor). Why did they put the idle screw waaay under the carb? Hard to get to.
That’s not a Mikuni that go Powersports is selling it’s a replica and it can be had on eBay for 30 bucks however the intake that comes with that kit is a good product but the kit that they sell is extremely overpriced considering the carburetor is a replica
They actually tell you its a replica to get a genuine you gotta pay 40 more bucks i hate to say but gopowersports is a overpriced joke... actually whats funny is they sell on ebay bought a throttle cable off ebay cuz it was cheaper and free shipping came in a go powersports box had all the sticker and a receipt with gopowersports on it, you'd have to be damn fool to buy it off there website
HEY... THANKS FOR INFORMATION ON THIS CARB...IM BUILDING A 212CC WHATS YOUR ADVISE ON HOPING UP THE MOTOR WITH A (.60) STOCKER CRANK....CON.ROD..CAM AND VAVLE SPRINGS..... THANKS IT FOR A MINI RACE BIKE.....
Hi can you please tell me if i have to change the jet when putting on a new airfilter?? I do not want a performance increase i just find that the stock airfilter doens't look as good and takes away alot of space! So i would like to just change that and keep the original jet. Thank you!
What’s the deal with the knock off Mikuni carbs cause I git a kit from eBay that looks just like all the rest of the kits I’ve seen but when installed I can’t pull the cord barley and when it dose start if I can get a good pull it’s at like 3/4 throttle when throttles not even rolled? I installed 18lb spring and a top plate kit at the same time and exhaust! So I just pulled the side case off and completely removed governor and not putting it back together but if you have any advice to help me out you’d be my hero!
I have a hemi predator 212 with governor removed, header exhaust. Right now I have stock carb that I upgraded the Jets in. Would it be worth my time and money to get a vm22 kit? Would I gain any performance? It runs really good with the stock carb but I see everyone seems to like the mukuni carbs.
Question on the governor, I was told all I need to do is remove the plate behind the carb on the predator 212. But I've seen videos of guys digging into the engine to remove.how did you do it. I have the nos on its way from 6sigma can't wait
Keep it up red beard, you vids are awesome I love binge watching them. Also I am planning to build a gocart w/ a 212 predator and I want to do upgrades to it.
i just did stage 1 and for some reason it feels as if its not getting the right gas thru the new jet but with the old one it sounds fine what do i need to do cause i need speed
I bought 2- 212 predators, 1 hemi one not and bought 2 vm22 Mikuni performance kits. The problem I'm having is getting it to rev above idle. I removed the gov just like you did. I put 18lb springs on both engines ported and polished both heads one has a header and the hemi has the stock exhaust. I had to adjust the float level on both carbs because it was dumping fuel. I have played with adjustments and cant seem to get it to respond to anything I do. idles fine but wont take any gas(wont respond at all just wants to die. Any thoughts? bigger jets maybe? if so which one. I have Yamaha carts with B&S 5hp that run great but I really want to try the Predators. looking forward to the jump from 35 MPH to 55 mph. Any help would be appreciated.
On the white side for sure. I opened up the fuel mixture screw 4,5,6,7,8, turns and still seemed like it was starving for fuel. I seen on line a jet and needle that the needle was much more tapered than the one I have. I seen yours fire right up out of the box. Don't get it. Something stupid I'm sure.
whats the main purpose of a mikuni carb plss i need help n with it work better then the stock with drill jet n to install the mikuni will i meed to removetje governor thankx plss reply
Love your vids! Question on the Fuel Shutoff Valve: I have a predator 212 on an Azusa minibike. The stock carb has a fuel valve built in. Do I need to install a fuel valve on the fuel line upstream from the mikuni carb or is it un-necessary? Didn't see anything on this in your vid. Thanks!!
hey! So i just bought a Yamaha 125cc shifter kart. Owner had it seating for 6 months before showing it to me. He started it We test drive it for two days. I tried jump starting the next morning and no start. He also told me I must jet it down because he used to use it only on the track. What can I do!!!!?
+Brad S it is the overflow lines. You don't have to have them but I would recommend leaving them on it because if it overflows and gets on something hot it could catch on fire
I bought a kart with a used predator. I was told it was cammed with heavier valve springs. It needed a carb so I ordered a mikuni kit. Will I need to Re-jet at all? It also has aftermarket exhaust
Can you use this setup with the governor still intact or will it have to be removed to use this carb? Maybe a dumb question but i know it has all the extra springs and all for it..

Ok. I'm sold. I'll be ordering one of these for my kart today.
Honestly sliding the barrel in and screwing it on is one of the most satisfying things of working on engines and carbs.
do you have to take the governor gear out or can you just take the linkage off someone plz respond
I need to know the same thing😂😭

The carburetter rods are super easy to remove with a hammer drill tighten it on as tight as you can and put her in reverse takes 10 seconds
If only I had seen this earlier😂
hey whats best, just upgraded the jet or a whole new carb? Also what if it runs too rich
When installing the new carb. What do you do with the governor?
Remove all the old stock governor stuff bc the carb has a throttle line that goes in the carb

Peyton Thomas did you solve problem?
Check fer air leak notice ol' Red made a gasket between intake n' motor
Check for gasket leaks and if that's good then might need fuel screw adjusted for more fuel
After installing my mikuni carb, the motor took about 20 pulls to start, and then shut off quickly afterwards when I revved it a bit. Should I be worried?
It would be much easier to just drill out the hole whole in the stock backing plate to be bigger.
Can you tell a major difference in performance?
Drill it out as big as the carb hole cause the motor hole is way bigger than the carb hole so you only want to go so far cause if you go farther you'll have vacuum leaks
@The Truth of the Matter it works good I did it to mine

Are there by chance any experts on jetting Mikuni carbs out there? I am just having a hard time finding anything in my online searches that is helpful. Thanks in advance!
The instructions say remove the governor where is it? what is it? Did I miss that part I want to get one of these but I'm not if I can't put it in
I got a mikuni carb for my predator 212cc.
Did you have to re-jet that at all? Or mess with the pilot jet or anything? Was it good to go right out of the box?
+2SlickNick yeah it's basically a full performance upgrade right out of the box
@@RedBeardsGarage Hey red beard. I'm new to the kart stuff so I put the 22m carb on an now it idles up an when u press the gas pedal it dies? any ideas why?
@@RedBeardsGarage yeah dude answer what byron says dude
I'm confused, just installed a Mikuni 22 on my Predator 212. 1 - Now, it runs great when the lever with rubber tip is up. Does that mean the choke is off? I've been researching this and there are opposing answers. 2 - it starts best in the mid position then I flip up, is that normal? Thanks :). (The engine is brand new, I removed the oil sensor and governor). Why did they put the idle screw waaay under the carb? Hard to get to.
The small line off the bowl, is that just a vent? I'm installing my very first Mikuni and it had zero instructions. I assumed it was a vent
Hey RB what's up! What is the term "clocking the carburetor and filter" refer to?? How is that done and what's the purpose of it? Thank you as well.
Some times on bikes you need to clock the carb to keep it upright. Thats where the float in the carb will work correctly.
Red Beard's Garage got ya! Thanks bro!
You should have moved the clip on the needle valve when you had the chance you'll see move it to the second one second notch from the top
I got one of these and it has the same line coming out of the bottom. Gas comes out from there where is it supposed to go? Thanks
+Owen Stephenson it is a overflow for the carb. It isn't suppose to leak all the time
That’s not a Mikuni that go Powersports is selling it’s a replica and it can be had on eBay for 30 bucks however the intake that comes with that kit is a good product but the kit that they sell is extremely overpriced considering the carburetor is a replica
I bought this carb from gopowersports then seen they were cheaper on ebay you can get the carb and intake for $54 on Amazon way over priced ....
Yup I'm got mine for 50 on Amazon..
Even the genuine mikuni thats a fake ?
So do you have to install a bigger carb. on a ct200u to get the new jet from a stage 1 mod. kit to preform at all?
I put a mikuni carb on my 212 predator on my mini bike but my rear wheel won't stop I put it on the lowest setting what can be my problem
i bought a mikuni 22mm carb and when i take it off choke it slowly climbs in rpms and wont slow down. any idea on what i can do to fix it?
+Captin flynn the slide must be sticking. See if the slide is falling all the way back down
Will that carb fit a GX 349 Greg and do you need a diffrent throttle cable then a stock Colman Doodle bug 6-1/2 hp engine
Quick question when you bypass the governor do you put the throttle cable to the mikuni or keep it on the governor
Hi can you please tell me if i have to change the jet when putting on a new airfilter?? I do not want a performance increase i just find that the stock airfilter doens't look as good and takes away alot of space! So i would like to just change that and keep the original jet. Thank you!
I will replace with mikuni carburetor. the governor must be removed or fixed in the machine. for the governor gear inside the crank , tank's
I’m new to go karts so do I have to put the throttle cable on the front of the carburetor
I’m new to all this, what do you do with the two pink tubes
Not gonna lie I’m trying to figure that out currently
anybody find out. please let me know
What’s the deal with the knock off Mikuni carbs cause I git a kit from eBay that looks just like all the rest of the kits I’ve seen but when installed I can’t pull the cord barley and when it dose start if I can get a good pull it’s at like 3/4 throttle when throttles not even rolled? I installed 18lb spring and a top plate kit at the same time and exhaust! So I just pulled the side case off and completely removed governor and not putting it back together but if you have any advice to help me out you’d be my hero!
Can you install this on a techumseh 6.5 hp installed on a yerf dog 3203? The techumseh is stock, no upgrades to the motor at all
Love your videos keep up the good work I'm doing a 212 right now im doing a mild I'll try to keep it mild build
I have the nos on its way from 6sigma
can't wait
+Jeff Lake you need to open up the case and take out the gear and lever inside. If you don't you can cause some serious engine problems.
What size of adapter did you guys use? On go power sports, there is a 48mm, and a 65mm. What size should I get?
Keep it up red beard, you vids are awesome I love binge watching them. Also I am planning to build a gocart w/ a 212 predator and I want to do upgrades to it.
Awesome man thanks for watching
i just did stage 1 and for some reason it feels as if its not getting the right gas thru the new jet but with the old one it sounds fine what do i need to do cause i need speed
with the mikuni or stock carb?
sounds fine with stock carb but with new one pulls allot
im believing i got the jets mixed up in the course of things
Easy to do my friend
Pull the plug and see what it looks like. White means lean and black means rich. See if you can figure out which one it is and then go from there.
Have a manco intruder 2. Throttle pedal has an eyelet for the cable. Any suggestions? Thanks
whats the main purpose of a mikuni carb plss i need help n with it work better then the stock with drill jet n to install the mikuni will i meed to removetje governor thankx plss reply
So go power sports has the option for a 48mm adapter and 65mm adapter. What size are you using?
when adding a mikuni carb, the governor has to be removed, correct?
Love your vids! Question on the Fuel Shutoff Valve: I have a predator 212 on an Azusa minibike. The stock carb has a fuel valve built in. Do I need to install a fuel valve on the fuel line upstream from the mikuni carb or is it un-necessary? Didn't see anything on this in your vid. Thanks!!
You don't have to but its always a good idea to have one
Thanks. I bought an inline valve.
So you didn't have to do any tuning or rejetting on the carb to get it work?
What do you do with the left over lever coming out the engine after you take the old throttle off
You can unbolt the whole thing, but then you should probably remove the governor shaft and gear from inside the engine
Hey Redbeard love the vids but my question is can you put one of these on the Coleman bike straight out the box or do you have to remove the governor
You would have to do something with the governor. The arm would be able to hit the crank inside the engine if you didn't remove it
Red Beard's Garage is there a way to plug the hole?
You need to go watch my governor removal video. I explain how to remove it all
What did you end up doing with governor ?
Ill buy it
Besides the fuel line, what are the other two lines used for? And are those necessary?
+Brad S it is the overflow lines. You don't have to have them but I would recommend leaving them on it because if it overflows and gets on something hot it could catch on fire
Red Beard's Garage I appreciate you getting back to me. Great videos! Keep up the good work..
I bought a kart with a used predator. I was told it was cammed with heavier valve springs. It needed a carb so I ordered a mikuni kit. Will I need to Re-jet at all? It also has aftermarket exhaust
+Jaysson Tansey yeah you will have to play with the jets in it.
Red Beard's Garage awesome! I have notifications on so I'll be watching for it!
@redbeard I installed the mukini carb but can only get about a quarter throttle. Anymore throttle and it wants to shut off....Any suggestions?
Been lovin your videos lately! Am new you know. Thumbs up man!!
Hello, I was wondering if there are any channels that modify Briggs and Stratton engines
So what’re the two pink tubes coming out of the carburetor?
Could I drill out the hole on the backing plate to get a little more power?
Can you use this setup with the governor still intact or will it have to be removed to use this carb? Maybe a dumb question but i know it has all the extra springs and all for it..
I need to know this also. Or how you tie it back
