My two favourite fighters from ny days at Lonsdale Sports with the great Denny Mancini. Both great fighters and gentlemen; in and out of the ring.

What a great commentator. Harry Carpenter.

Just to add that they became firm friends in later life. In fact, John sometimes used to give Chris a lift to our Lonsdale events. Both were great supporters of our evenings and helped raise money for the various boxing charities.

John Conteh was a great fighter , later on in his career his discipline slipped a bit.
Finnigan was a real fighter of the old school
8 oz gloves by the look of it

Kevin now gone as is commentator Carpenter and promoter Micky Duff as well as many of the corners. The way they fought meant head clashes were inevitable. Conteh started life as a proper heavy - that how life has changed.

Another Great vid mate! Have you got any film of the British boxer George Walker by any chance? He was in the same stable as Conteh and was trained by George Francis

Conteh was a great natural boxer but weak hands, bad management decisions and ill discipline meant he never reached full potential after he won the world title. But he was world champ!

I've watched a lot of boxing on youtube recently.
    Mostly American bouts
The American commentators are truly terrible! They are clueless, and talk so fast, it is difficult to understand them.
They are SO biased! You watch Duran vs Davey Moore, and you barely hear Duran mentioned, even though he anhialated Moore from start to finish.
And here we have the great Harry Carpenter. He just talks about the fight.
    RIP 'ARRY. Sorely missed.

I'll third it. Not just boxing. All sport. As for that Howard Cosell. If you've ever watched the Olympics on US TV it's a miserable experience

I noticed bad feelings in both their fights towards each other. Was it all about the head butting allegations or was there something more ?
