This was the fight that caused a controversy..the bad cuts that Matthew sustained should of ended the fight but they used virtually superglue in them to stop them bleeding …the WBC ordered a rematch and designated only 1 in a hundred adrenaline in the cut cream used thereafter …it wasn’t the only fight at this time Antuofermo v Hagler 1st fight was another ….lm sure l remember it right but it is 43 yrs ago …
Take nothing away from Matthew but Conteh was not in his right frame of mind around that time,a lot of newspaper headlines surrounded him away from boxing for one reason or other.
John just didn't throw enough effective punches and his unwillingness to use his right hand made Saad's win almost inevitable. Saad missed hundreds of punches due to Conteh's great defensive skill but you don't win a fight simply by making your opponent miss. An ok fight but not the classic everyone says it is.
I think he did an OK job but you’re right Cosell would’ve been better. It’s pretty difficult to do a fight solo, not many guys can do it. Keith Jackson could do it and Cosell.
