    The recording was made for a Dutch TV program called the 2 meter sessions (the length of presenter of the show). The idea behind the program was that they would invite established bands arrange a studio and give them the freedom to records songs in a way that a commercial studios would not allow them to. So it was more like how would you record the song if there was no studio interference. The only exception they ever made was Epica. They had just released their debut album a couple months earlier. The studio send a copy of the album the presenter (Jan Douwe Kroeske) as is normal in the business. He thought he would give a try and was totally blown away by the album. So much so that he took the record to the producer and said "You have to listen to this". When the episode aired the audience respons was so enthusiastic that they released a cd/dvd box called "We will take you with us". A great song from this album is "Feint" a song about a assassination of politician and the after effects on society. ruclips.net/video/FNTaIz5cABY/видео.html

      WOW ! That is GREAT background info ! One thing you can be sure : Epica caught my attention. What was mind blowing, for me, it was the fact that on their first album, there was musical maturity/direction. And they were very young ! I finally add : many reaction videos from me will be done. I loved my first experience. And, anyway. I don't have the choice, really, I was flooded with Epica suggestions ! I must have ten songs to do !!! :-) This is the kind of message I LOVE to receive. Thank you so much!

      @@GuylainPrince yes it was there first album, 17 years ago. 17 years, my mind still hasn't adjusted to the fact that 2003 was 17 years ago. My opinion is that at the moment they are the best metal band to hear live, alongside Nightwish. And as far as lyrics go , they are one of the most complex and diverse bands out there aswell, in terms of composition too. For me, the only downside to Epica is that most other music in the genere seems shallow and simplistic by comparison . And that they haven't put out a new album in 4 years, they have something coming out this autumn if I remember it correctly , and I only hope they will find a vaccine for this virus soon so I can go see them once again

    Several observations...
    - The band's DVD for which this "live in studio" performance was recorded, is called "We Will Take You with Us". And for many years I thought this related to how EPICA intend to enrapture their listeners and bring them into their world! Silly me, after finally paying attention to whole lyrics!.. It's a small consolation that the title COULD have that second meaning to it, but the phrase is used here in a dark context indeed.
    - You would do a great service to us viewers and to yourself by uncovering the acoustic version of EPICA song "Feint" off the same DVD... It is worthy for sheer emotional impact, but also the message, capturing the songwriters' reaction (again) to a real event, is a complement to that of the current song. And it will make you fall for Simone's voice, if you haven't already. ;)
    - EPICA is one of the bands in the genre that is never timid about taking a social or political stance. Some fans of music do not like being "preached" to, however Mark, Simone (who writes a lot of the lyrics) and the guys were never ones to mince words if they are hard, and with time this kind of upright position on whatever topic has kind of come to be expected of the band. :)
    - The blonde support vocalist, who kept smiling along with the grim message, is American singer Amanda Somerville (part of numerous musical projects in Europe, and symptomatically better known here than at home), who at that time was Simone's vocal coach, and is on extremely good terms with them all. She was very supportive of her young protégé, as can be easily noticed throughout the recording.
    - On a light note, this is probably the only Metal song to feature the esteemed vocals of one Tony Blair. No need to doubt, he delivered his lines with panache. \m/

    Wow, another great reaction / analysis... and a good way to enter the world of Epica! I really think Heavy metal has a marketing issue. These songs are really well constructed and intelligent, and it's incredible that people just ignore them because they are labelled as "satanic music" because of the growls which to me are just another instrument in the composition. Why are we always getting pop and rap music in the radio and we just don't have the opportunity to know this other side of music? This is something I'll never understand.

    • @GuylainPrince
      @GuylainPrince  4 года назад +1

      It seems that the marketing issue is mainly north-American. In Europe, in Netherlands or Finland (or other countries), they are on the waves. Not only the lyrics are well constructed, the music is beautiful and the videos are, very often, first-class (see my next reaction : "Kingdom of Heaven". They have their followers all across the globe. Thanks to internet, they can reach them easily!

      @@GuylainPrince Well, I'm in Switzerland and I can say that here marketing is definitely an issue for metal. Even in the Netherlands, homeland of Floor, Sharon and Simone, people don't know them because their music isn't promoted and played in local radio station. Remember beste Zangers? That show is responsible for current Floor's popularity in the country. Never mind she already sold 9 millions of records worldwide. Of course she's the best living ad for the genre, but it's nevertheless a shame that people around me know K-POP and PSY (gagnam style!) and have never heard about Nighwish!!

    La chanson sauf erreur ne semble parler que des kamikazes. Les paroles sont très sévères. A part quelques exceptions, les kamikazes sont autant victimes que les personnes qu'ils ont tuées, ils ont crus être dans le vrai, le juste . D'autres ont profité de leur état de faiblesse psychologique, financière, affective,... De leur illettrisme, de leur méconnaissance de la religion pour les manipuler et leur faire commettre l'irréparable. Ces autres ont pris prétexte de la foi uniquement dans leur intérêt matériel.
    Epica ont l'air très mâture, je suppose qu'ils savent faire la part des choses entre la vraie foi qui œuvre pour l'amour inconditionnel, le pardon et ces faux prophètes ou des prétendus croyants qui sèment mort et souffrance.
