you can also hear a beautiful bass build in their song Eyrie where theres an ascending melody before the drop on the "bum bum badada bum bum bada" part if you know what I mean LMAO (or just the prechorus I guess lol)

Ne Obliviscaris has phenomenal songwriting skills. Proof- their song And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope gets studied for its composition at the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I would totally recommend checking out that song, as well as Devour Me Colossus Pt 1. You will not be disappointed!
There are six people in the band, to answer your question. Violinist/clean singer, harsh singer, bassist, drummer, and two guitarists.

Man, I'm so glad that you finally checked out NeO! And I am also glad that it connected with you. This song in particular has a lot of emotion behind it, and I think that the music and the lyrics express that perfectly. This band changed my life when I found it, and I'm so happy to see people get the same reaction and emotion that I had the first time. I hope that you check them out again in the future; they have so much to offer, and I guarantee that you'll not be disappointed. Thank you so much for this. 🖤🤘

Thanks again for getting to this one dude! This band is practically a unique genre of metal on their own.
One I haven't heard talked about hardly at all from them is another song off the recent album, called "Misericorde II - Anatomy of Quiescence". It's been many years since I heard a guitar solo so insane that I had to replay it several times before the song even finished the first time. Benjamin Beret is one hell of a player.

I got introduced to this band myself in Oct 2023. A colleague of mine reached out to a bunch of us saying "you guys like Opeth, right? Want to come to a concert with me?". Non of us knew them, but we went anyway. The opener was a band of 1 drummer with a glorious mullet and 2 bassists. And then these guys came on, they're so entertaining on stage, couldn't keep my eyes off them. Tim, the violinist/clean singer was such a bouncy, geeky hype man, I loved it. The other singer was very broody and dramatic and you only saw him when he had lines to sing (they had a replacement though). Then you get drawn to the drum parts, then the bass, ohh... Now it's a violin slo, guitar solo. Loved it! You do need to appreciate long songs though... They just keep going, lol.

This song is an ode to the cataclysmic wild fires that ravaged Australia a few years ago (the band are Australian), and the band are trying to evoke the cries of nature, the land, the animals, the life, that was all wiped out. It's an incredibly moving song when you look into the lyrics alongside the video and, of course, the powerfully intense music. I've listened to NeO since their first album and they've been such consistent players in the melodic death metal scene but they're nowhere near as widely appreciated as they should be. They are absolute masters.
Next ones for you: Forget Not; Devour Me Colossus; or, their biggest song, And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope.

I've heard only a couple of songs from them, but each one was impressive. I loved this. The bass drew me in immediately, and the clean vocals. The strings part towards the end, and in particular the violin solo, was enchanting.
And the visuals?!?! Amazing video. The dancer put all of her emotion and passion into the performance, kudos to her.
All together, this is a big WOW!

  • @RiannaQueen

Someone else probably mentioned it already, but the lyrics and the video are about the bush fires in Australia in 2019 that killed so many animals, most already endangered or at the brink of extinction.
Mother nature, how humans abuse the planet is often a topic in Xen's lyrics. The harsh vocalists writes all the lyrics, designs all their artwork and is also behind this video clip.
The horse is a former race horse, rescued from being turned into dog food. He sadly passed away earlier in 2022.
The choir at the end is fans that support the band on Patreon.

Fun fact 1: Their song And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope was used at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music for composition analysis.
Fun fact 2: They play all of this complicated stuff live and it sounds great! I didn't really believe this can be done live. But then I saw. A half of the band was sick, the growls were done by a substitute who only knew 9 songs (but that's almost 2 hours :) and it was still the best concert I've seen.
Fun fact 3: This band is self-financed and crowd-funded on Patreon. These guys are essentially amateurs, they have jobs. The violinist is a music teacher, but e.g. their past drummer is a train conductor.
