Drawing & Talking About EVERY Warriors Protagonist - Sunny's Spiel | Warriors Analysis

- I’ll be honest, this was a somewhat-spontaneous decision, though it’s also something I have thought about doing since early 2021. The appeal of drawing a single illustration with every protagonist from the main series, and potentially using that time to discuss all of those protagonists at least loosely, was very strong. It didn’t give time for particularly in-depth analysis but it has created a thing I’m pretty proud of, and I’m glad about that.

Imagine if the clans were named differently; rippleclan, tallclan, clearclan, runnerclan, and clan.
Edit ~ a year later: clearclan cats are invisible, tallclan cats have legs taller than redwoods, runnerclan cats can only run, no walking or standing still, rippleclan cats have varying degrees of being able to control water (from creating ripples to creating waves), and clan cats are just cats.
oh my gosh haha
😂😂😂😂
✨✨And✨✨clan✨✨
ClearClan: The Clan of see-through cats
TallClan: the clan with long legged cats, taller than any cat in the forest
i always read bristlefrost as being evil. i WANTED her to be a manipulative, gaslighting protagonist who turned out to be in cahoots with the villain she was "trying" to get rid of
Bristlefrost would have been a GREAT villain name
@@JustDuckiestIt's giving ice queen vibes and I'm here for it
Fun fact about Feathertail: in the Russian translation of Warriors, she's named Swallow, which I'm told is a common nickname to call a child or romantic partner. Considering she is a Sweet Baby Girl in TPB and later becomes an Unfortunately Deceased Love Interest in TNP, it hilariously fits her.
Double fun fact about the Russian translation. Compound words are apparently harder to make in Russian, so there are very few names that are compounded, one of which is Lionblaze's name, "Львиносвет" (Lvinosvyet), meaning "Lionlight". Instead, the Russian translation makes kittens' names diminutives and their adult names are just the word proper. Diminutives are like how we take "dog" and make "doggy", but in Russian, you can do that with basically every noun, so that's what they do. Example, Breezepaw's name is something like "Breezey" (while meaning something more like "Little Breeze" or "Zephyr"), but then Breezepelt becomes "Breeze".
Mostly yes, except Breezepelt doesn't have a special apprentice name and instead is just called Breeze in all of his appearances. (Though I don't know if he ever was in the text as a kit in newer prequel books, so maybe he has a kit name.)
Russian translation in general isn't consistent with apprentice names. Sometimes they give them -paw suffix, sometimes they change the word to something else, and in some cases new apprentices don't get new names at all. Or they keep their apprentice names when promoted to warriors. As you mentioned, compound words are indeed harder to make, so -paw names don't always work out nicely. (And this is why I threw out special apprentice and kit names in my own story because it is hard to come up with three good sounding names for every cat, so I made my work easier at least for one clan)
The kit name rules go for most Spanish translations as well. However, it’s also hard to make compound names in Spanish much like Russian. This goes for both apprentice and warrior names. (Ashfurs apprentice name is ceniciento, which translates back to Cinderella… weird) brambeclaw is just bramble in Spanish, his name is zarzoso.
Nice, in Polish translation kit also have diminutives as their names.
Oh and we don't have compound names, there are two words that are apart and the first words becomes an adjective that describes the suffix. So Firepaw in Polish is Ognista Łapa (ognista means fiery, łapa means paw).
Since we're sharing translations fun fact, Feathertail is called ''Jolie Plume'' in french, which literally means ''Pretty Feather''.
@@Juanfilipe766now the blonde Ashfur meme makes even more sense
Tawnypelt left, and had a relationship with her father. Brambleclaw did not. Brambleclaw agreed to training because he yearned for a relationship with him, while tawnypelt had a more solid connection that we did not get to see because it was happening in shadow clan. Her turning him down and him accepting always made sense to me because of this
I still wish Alderheart's perspective was given to Sparkpelt instead. Love how the prophecy is about finding "the spark that remains to quell the darkness" but she gets nothing in avos
Just a brief opinion, I think Sunbeam choosing to leave Shadowclan didn't have a lot to do with her loving Nightheart, despite what she says, I think it had a lot to do with her mom trying to manipulate her again right after Nightheart leaves and she weighs her options: stay in Shadowclan which is rapidly falling apart and with a mother who tries to manipulate and belittle her at every turn, or take a risk and join Thunderclan to be with a cat she found she loves. It's a selfish decision, not unlike what Nightheart did and she'll likely have to answer for it or at least reckon with it soon.
Yeah. And while she does have a support system in Shadowclan, they're all in a relationship. Blazefire and Lightleap are mates and Sunbeams brother has a mate too. They're all reminding her of what she lost recently, but what she pretty much craved from the very beginning: A relationship. She felt lonely in Shadowclan, so she made an impulsive decision to join Thunderclan so that she could be in a relationship again. I don't think this will actually make her happy tho. It's like me impulsively buying something cute in a store. It gives me a quick dopamine rush and makes me feel short-term happiness, but after a while I start to regret my purchase and wonder why I wasted so much money on something I don't even need in the first place
@@snakesareamazing Are we all just gonna forget about Hollowspring and Sparrowtail 🥲
@@Eclipse210 Yes, cause the books forgot about them as well
also I think it’s really kind of wholesome how shadowclan was formed basically because tall shadow just thought the marshlands were beautiful!!! really sucks how much flack shadowclan gets now because it’s actually one of my favorite clans :(
Even if you hate Gray Wing, you have to admit his death scene was one of the best
wait, why do people hate gray wing?? tbh I thought he was one of the better cats in dawn of the clawns
Some people think he didn’t treat Turtle Tail or Jagged Peak well and he’s boring and he got too much credit for stuff he didn’t do. I love him but some people don’t agree. I think there’s a Reddit thread about it called “does anyone else hate gray wing”
@@frogbog1359 ah yeah looking back I can see why people wouldn’t like him. I still like him better than a lot of the dawn of the clans characters tho
I'll make the argument that Wind Runner is the most well defined supporting character in Warriors. I don't think giving her a POV would've been beneficial as opposed to giving Tall Shadow one. All of her motivations for leaving the group and founding her own are quie well explained an not needing a pov book.
What I think the DotC PoVs should’ve been:
The Sun Trail - Gray Wing and Tall Shadow
Thunder Rising - Jagged Peak (whom I’m renaming Thunder Strike - a she-cat because it makes no real difference to the plot)
The First Battle - Clear Sky and Gray Wing
The Blazing Star - Clear Sky, Wind Runner, and River Ripple
A Forest Divided - Thunder Strike, Gray Wing, and Tall Shadow
Path of Stars - All the listed PoVs (for varying numbers of chapters depending on who’s most important)
They need to make a super edition or novella on Snowtuft, maggotail and silverhawk
So to defend tawnypelt a little. She named her son after tigerstar's good qualities. Like the strong and respected warrior part. She wanted her son to be like him in the good ways. And I doubt she thought it was the right thing to do, telling them about her father. She wanted them to know that they came from a line of great warriors. Not murderers. And I think she said no to her father because she grew up and learned that just because she was his daughter she didn't have to have connections with him. And she didn't just move to be close with him but to get away from thunderclan. And yes she really deserved a pov in the new prophecy.
And now feathertail. I think her arc and book were so different because she chose to forgive. She went back to how she seemed as an apprentice. And not the bitter cat she was in the graphic novel. At least I hope this is how the Erin's did it.
Okay I have a confession to make I do not like dovewing. Well correction I don't like her when people fight about her. While reading I love her, as a mother and everything else she is. But when I think about her choices that love dwindles. Like the tigerheart thing and running away while pregnant and causing two of her children to almost die. And never really trying to understand her sister (not that ivy did that) and the bumblestripe thing (not defending him but as a mate he was good and especially in bramblestar's book all to leave him for tigerheart who used her for plants and kidnapped and threatened her sister.). I want to like her but I just can't. And um I hate when her and ivypool are compared, just let them be.
So about greywing. Almost all his scenes made me tear up. I love him so much.
Jayfeather has been a consistent favorite for me and it makes me quite happy to see such a big fan give him praise. Grumpy father is done with everybody’s crap and just wants a nap.
Love the video and totally agree, but it is a shame no one remembers Flametail was a POV 😔
Such a gorgeous poster! You did a fantastic job on it!
Flametail is screaming at you that he's definitely a protagonist.
Yea.
Definitely.
How is Flametail not a protagonist
@@nashheo3142 He was a protagonist for like 4 chapters, so nobody really counts him but technically he is 😂
Yea I was wondering where he was
I’m so glad someone thinks the same about Shadowsight! I don’t feel like he’s much of a character and is really only there to suffer, at least to me. Maybe that’s the appeal but I can’t personally get attached to him lol.
I actually ship Squirrelflight and Crowfeather. Think about it. Squilf stopped Crowfeather from committing suicide. That gives Crowfeather a reason to fall for Squilf. As for Squilf, maybe the Erins could have them spend a lot of time on the journey. Idk, it just makes a LOT more sense than LeafxCrow. Maybe I’ll edit this when I come up with something good
I definitely agree with you, squirrelpaw and crowpaw were initially a little mean to each other. They had a little rivalry but I feel like squirrelflight really cared for crowfeather. Even after the new prophecy she’s always reminiscing about the great journey with him. Even having in tag along in outcast.
Squirrelflight is too good for him.
The thing is she isn't his type. He likes calm and soft spoke cats like Leafpool and Feathertail. Just look at Nightcloud, she was too firely for him. But I can see why you would like it.
@@arrowwaves5900 At least it makes more sense than LeafxCrow and gets rid of Bramble x Squirrel 🥲
You should make a couple more videos like this, one for the SE’s, one for the novellas, one for the graphic novels, and then ofc one for our beloved paws of stars.
Bramblepaw growning into Brambleclaw making sense if you actually look at his trauma. The clan treated him like dirt under their paws till he stood up to his father. His actions toward another cats can be seen as him trying to defend himself from being hurt again. his whole kithood and apprenticehokd is basically him being alone for nost of the time. He has no social skilles because how the clan cut off any connection to him 6:03
I was gonna complain about Nightheart, Sunbeam, and frostpaw not being included but now I don’t want them to be. Only 2-3 of their books are done. They still have another half arc to go
The final poster looks AMAZING!! I love seeing all the main characters in one place!
It’s so funny how Crowfeather and Feathertail are next so it almost says Crowfeather
What an absolutely lovely poster! :D Loved hearing your opinions on everyone and I always like your designs
Early today. I love the composition and you spiels are actually the best. It's the easiest to understand and you look in the details and not just the big picture! ❤
I love your long videos!!
EDIT: Seems the caption issues are fixed! Thanks Sunny!
Just a little heads-up, currently the captions don't seem to be aligned with the video properly. While you were talking about Firestar the captions were talking about Alderheart.
Nice drawing! I like listening to your videos, and its nice to hear you talk about the protagonists.
omg is that everybody’s favorite atheist cat, mothwing from riverclan??
seeing this made my day immediately!!
Turned out so good :)
Love your art style!
The "hi lionblaze.." Is the best thing ever lol
Sunnyfall, good job. I haven't seen any other books past River but you did good.
i adore the work you put into these videos and into your passions! i’ve always found your familiarity across all warrior cats books to be admirable, and i’d love to one day know the books inside and out like you do! this is a wonderful piece, be proud of it! 💖
We need this as a print!
“With their track record of strong shecats abandoning their personalities, arcs, and sometimes to pursue “true love” while Tom’s don’t have to give up much of anything for love, I’m not holding my breath for that.”
I’m so glad this aged poorly in terms of Sunbeams character arc in the newest book 😭 I was expecting full disappointment and character abandonment like they did with Bristlefrost
Would you ever put the poster up on a shop? I would love to buy it!
…
FIRST HAHA!
It'd a really great video. I agree with you assessments on every level. Wish Stormfur had more to him tho.
I would love it if you could make a video about Violetshine one day, because any time you talked about her, I mostly disagreed with what you said. So I want to know what you think about her in more details.
I LOVE SUNBEAM I AM HER NUMBER ONE FAN, awesome art!!!
I love Hollyleaf, probably because I identify with her so much.
Personally I'd like to think Feathertail's graphic novel happened before the journey, it makes a bit more sense y'know.
My fave character is yellow fang
NightHeart should’ve looked exactly like FireStar and Having all achievements credit to FireStar and be mocked for failures. His warrior ceremony He should snapped and completely changed his name [maybe naming himself something completely different or after Tiger or sand] and him getting ridiculed and mocked for undermining his leader and ancestor
Amazing video Sunny! Do you think you’ll ever sell the poster? Love your channel! ❤
I think the writers did Nightheart so dirty. I really, really, REALLY, didn't want him to be mates with Sunbeam. It would've been a much more compelling storyline if they had him become 'fake mates' with her to leave ThunderClan. And I know Sparkpelt's characterization was messed up, but him continously being told to 'just make up' with her and his sister made me so angry. They were telling this guy that changed his name bc he didn't like it (something I'm very familar with) to go talk to his family that was basically cutting him off for it. He should've stayed in ShadowClan imo. And his romance with Sunbeam was so, so, SO rushed, to the point where I thought it was purposefully like that, to show that he was really just trying to find an excuse to leave his hateful family. I could go on such a long rant about this... like it would make sense for Nightheart circa the beginning of the arc to feel left out from his family even before changing his name due to their exile. I'm going to make myself like these characters despite everything by saying this: Sparkpelt didn't like it when Flamepaw changed his name to Nightheart because Larksong picked it out. Due to being so close to her mother and wanting to be like her, Finchlight also turns her back on Nightheart.
Bayshine doesn't feel this way because his mother isn't Sparkpelt-- she's Sorrelstripe, the kit of Lilyheart, a cat Nightheart is fairly close with. iirc Myrtlebloom is also decent to Nightheart, most likely for the same reasons.
I related to Nightheart a lot with his whole "why can't my family just accept that I'm not what they think I am/want me to be" thing in the beginning. I liked the idea of him getting away from the family that seemed to hate him just because of a name. His whirlwind romance thing with Sunbeam *sucked*. Horribly. It felt rushed, and Sparkpelt and Finchlight's whole "wow, we missed you so much, we're so sorry and regret everything" also seemed rushed and very ooc for those cats during that arc. Me talking about my hatred for this is making me want to make an au
I really don't get why people dislike him because he likes Bayshine more than his she-cat family. Bayshine was so much nicer to him than them. This is an overall writer's mistake, not a Nightheart character mistake.
Nice South Park reference 33:33
tawnypelt deserved so much better dudeee
*Flametail has left the chat*
Actually I’m honestly not sure if Flametail counts tbh.
he had at least 3 chapters
I love Sunbeam. I hope she ends up single.
Hey just letting you know the subtitles are out of sync! It'd be neat if that could be fixed
Should be fixed now! Thank you for letting me know
what about flametail?
Am I the only one has a problem with how hollyleaf ended up being portrayed? She’s supposed to be obsessive, controlling and headstrong girl but she just ends up coming off as.. flimsy and insecure. I really loved hollyleaf because she was this super ambitious, strong and noble character with an edge. We don’t see female protagonists like her at all in warriors, but she ended up proving the weakest of the three. Both her brothers lead much sharper lives from the start, especially jay. Both of them held up much stronger even after hollyleaf made everything so much worse and left them to deal with the consequences. They held up so well through the worst of things, and I’d think hollyleaf would too. She ends coming off as spoiled, selfish and weak in the end when she’s was described to be the strongest of the three, like the oldest sister. I think things could’ve been done so much better, such as making hollyleaf insecure and explosive from the start, or having her hold up well and own up to her own consequences, which she’s done before. It makes more sense to have one of the other two to take hollyleaf’s place as the one who ruined everything and killed ashfur or whatever the hell. Lionblaze could’ve been more ambitious and controlled by the dark forest, there’d be a reason to kill ashfur because of his previous reputations. It’s kind of common though. Jayfeather actually has a reason to absolutely despise leafpool rather than hollyleaf. Imagine having someone in your life that’s constantly belittling and manipulating you and than finding out that person is mother? Leafpools treatment of Jaypaw goes so unnoticed. Regardless, hollyleaf should’ve held up so much better compared to her two, much more problematic brothers. Her motives for doing anything make absolutely no sense.
I feel like Jay is the Charizard of warriors
They look like lil loafs without the legs ;0
All the cat beans!
MAC book
Hehehe
You turned them into sausages.
Just subscribed to ya
Am i the only one who really doesnt like power of three?
One thing i would like to say is that leafpools secret was MASSIVELY overreacted to. Literally in Squirrelflights Hope StarClan considers rejecting her for it, somthing that Yellowfang did too, but she got off scot free

I just feel bad for Frostpaw and her arc. She’s just becoming the new Shadowsight, if he realized he never had a connection to StarClan earlier and was attacked JUST LIKE SHADOWSIGHT. My theory is she’s gonna be alive because Whistlepaw or a ghost found her, she’ll go around as a ghost while her body heals to find who killed her and discover that (insert tom who she loves I forgot the name) has been meeting Sunbeam’s mom, and he brags about how he murdered Frostpaw. She gets revived, tells Kestrelflight, Whistlepaw, Icewing, Harestar, or Mothwing, and they ‘believe her but she needs more evidence’. Gets evidence too late, Splashclaw (I think) has faked a sign to become leader, and now she makes a rebellion to fight against him. Twenty background characters die and Splashclaw is held prisoner in a Clan’s camp, but Frostpaw helps him escape because she still likes him. He lurks at the edge of the Clan’s territory, gathering rogues to follow him while picking off RiverClan’s leaders and deputies, and attacks ShadowClan and WindClan. As he attacks RiverClan, Frostpaw manages to kill him somehow by using the power of StarClan. StarClan cats join the battle and tell her that she’ll never communicate with them again because StarClan hates talking to main characters, then the arc ends with Sunbeam and Nightheart having kits and Frostpaw (with her full name, probably a medicine cat because Mothwing doesn’t care that she can’t talk to StarClan) thinks about her life while treating someone’s wounds from the battle.
To bad leafpool is a good character but Is a bad protagonist, she has potential
Third!!
fun, somewhat unrelated fact: I headcanon river ripple as a she-cat who uses he/him pronouns!! idk it just seems right to me
I frigging hate clear skyyyyyyyy
I love gray wing
Hes life is a trategy😢
living in a post river ripple super world, i want a refund on that character "arc"
Hot takes: i don't like squirrelflight
And lionblaze *was* not boring
Oh and dont forget my hatred of hollyleaf
And why do so many ppl hate bristlefrost??
(pls don't fight me lol i just have weird op)
Hating squirrelflight isnt really a hot take....
@@anirimabelal3815 wait but everyone loves her I feel like-
Vision of shadow just sucked
Warriors hot take Hollyleaf is awful.
She threatens Leafpool with FREAKIN DEATH because of some parental drama, and then decides that Leafpool should live, only because she wanted her to suffer. Yeah. Not to mention she killed someone (i mean, it was Ashfur, not a big loss but still) to keep a secret she then promptly revealed, as if she hadnt comitted MURDER TO KEEP IT.
(Btw i am in no way a skilled analyzer so take my opinion with a grain of salt)
i think warriors in general is allergic to women
