Unacceptable Names: Green Hammer Moon Jay Song What about Greenflower. And Moonflower. And Jayfeather. And we can't forget the best warrior cat, Hammernose. Named after his massive nose.
Wait, there was actually a cat named Hammernose!? I never thought the Hunters would give a cat a name with "Hammer" in it. I heard that Tigerclaw was originally gonna be named Hammerclaw, but they changed it because hammers are a human tool. (Not saying this to excuse people who are assholes about it, of course. I just didn't think something like that would be in the canon books.)
I had a cat character named ‘Neverkit’, named after her mother believed that she would not survive as a kitten due to being the runt of the litter, and the most deformed. But Neverkit grew up, and pushed through disability. She soon was named Neverbreath for her warrior name, because she took a lot of responsibility as an apprentice and was known to never stop her work to ‘take a breath’. She’s always had something to prove. If these traditionalists read her name they’d never approve of it, but it’s the story that compels the name. So if Fidgetkit was a fidgety kitten, that would make sense.
while we're talking about names, who looked at their child and goes "ah yes, running. what a perfect name for a child that can't even see yet" not a bad name, im just curious on the thought process behind it lmao
And Yellowfang. Like, her mother HAD to know she was NOT yellow, and did she name her after her bad hygiene even if she was JUST born? And poor Yellowkit must've had trouble brainstorming for names for when she would grow older! Like most kits do.
"longkit" (tc, longtail) "smallkit" (tc, smallear) "stumpykit" (shc, stumpytail) "wetkit" (shc, wetfoot) "kinkkit" (shc, kinkfur) "tornkit" (wc, tornear) "raggedkit" (shc, raggedstar/pelt) "onekit" (wc, onestar/whisker) (RAINFLOWER U SUCK SO I WONT PUT CROOKEDSTAR IN) "whiskerkit" (wc, whiskernose) "loudkit" (rc, loudbelly) "heavykit" (rc, heavystep) "clawkit" (shc/rogue, clawface, istg why would u name your kit clawkit knowing they would be named clawpaw in a few moons😭) (yellowfang had a good reason to name brokenstar brokenkit so not including. in case you didn't know its because she felt broken after hopekit and wishkit died and that she had kits as a medicine cat, plus more i might have forgotten.) "shredkit" (df, shredtail, again weird name and did his mother WANT him to get shredded?) "sneezekit" (rc, sneezecloud, runningnose if in rc) etc
maybe the pelt looked like something the cats would run on. Take Runningwind for example, his pelt is brown like a desert, maybe. cats could run on deserts. Or thr kit was just faster than the other kits at something? idk
I think Hawkfrost is considering how he is as sneaky as a hawk about his "prey" and he is cold (mean) but he was named that before he was evil so I dont know. The hawk is cold.
"but he was named that before he was evil so I dont know" To be fair, even their mothers seem to have the prophetic knowledge required to give kits names that would only make sense when they became full-fledged warriors/medicine cats. Like, do you expect me to believe that Yellowfang had yellow teeth even as a kit?
@@catbatrat1760 yellowfang could have had yellow teeth or she really liked the color yellow or had smt to do with it so her mom was like, “ yessir name her after a connection “
I had a oc names “Orcapelt” because it was a clan set in the Pacific Northwest. Someone got mad at me because “cats wouldn’t know what orcas were!1!!!1”. If they talk to ghosts in the sky I think they can figure out what orcas are.
I accidentally said "puddleshine" but he isn't Violetshine's mother, Pebbleshine is. Handy Puddleshine Pebbleshine identification guide: Puddleshine is the tom medicine cat of Shadowclan. He is Brown with white spots. He is alive. Pebbleshine was a she-cat warrior of Skyclan. She was white with brown spots. She is dead.
The Erins seem to be really loving the "Shine" suffix lately. We have Willowshine, Puddleshine, Pebbleshine, Violetshine, probably more that I'm too lazy to think of right now. This may not seem like much compared to the amount of "furs" and "tails" We have but it just kind of came out of nowhere since Willowshine. Not that it's a bad suffix or anything, just a tad overused in the books imo
Lunar Kitsune I thought Star Flower would stay as Star Flower since she’s an ancient- unless she made a clan, then it would be Flowerstar- and I would totally make an OC who’s in FlowerClan then
in an rp group that leaned into the more mystical aspects, I had an albino cat, moonpaw (later, moonsong). She became a vassel for the goddess of the moon who she met in dreams and eventually took on the mantle herself. She literally became the moon, which I had no knowledge of or plans for when making her, and I've never been happier with an oc tbh. Moon cats are valid and if the mods had prevented my use of the prefix it's possible that connection might not have happened to her specifically
My used-to-be friend who never read the books read my Fan-fiction about my oc’s and told me “What’s a kit?” And when I said it’s another word for a baby cat, she said “Why not just call it a kitten?”
@Sparky Wølf, I don’t like indentifying this friend as toxic, because she just said we grew apart. But, occasionally I just think about some of the rude stuff she’s done. OH ALSO, she’s what told me about stuff and how I lost my innocence.
In a weird warrior cats role play I was doing with my friends, one of my friends was Tailpaw and I was giving him his warrior name, and I was _very_ tempted to give him the name, Tailtail
Can I just say, I’ve always been in love with Birchfall’s name. It’s really beautiful to me and I can even begin to explain why I love it because I just do..
I like giving cats names from parts of other words. Such as Buttermelt As a kit, they were called Butterkit, named after butterflies and buttercups. I also like taking a word, such as Hawthorn, and making it a name. Hawkit was a prickly kit who grew up to be Hawthorn. It's very fun >:3 Also once on a roleplaying game, I had to change my OC's name from Scarclaw to Scarredclaw because Scar _wasn't on the list of usable prefixes_ 🙄
On amino, I have a tomcat called: Quailfeather. A grey-blue tabby cat with one yellow and one blue eye. Is blind in the blue due too.. Rp incidents. Has a scar on his neck and three scars on his left shoulder. Very fluffy. And I got _kicked_ because the leader said, "WhAt iS a QuAil? QuAilS dOnt ExiSt! iM kiCkinG yoUuUuuu uwu" So. Uh. Okay?
7:02 this reminded me that years back, I went on a warrior cats role playing forum and there was this character that everyone was making fun of. I think their name was “Littlestool” or something like that. Anyways, they got so done with everything that anytime they possibly could, they would write *craps on **______* and everyone hated them. They never banned them though, so it was just chaos. I stopped going to role play forums after that, but I thought this was a neat story to share. I have no idea Moonkitti saying those words brought up that specific memory, but yeah.
i'll never forget being 9 years old on neopets dot com and having a bunch of older teens and young adults tell me i couldn't name a cat 'oriolekit' because they thought i meant 'oreokit'. i had to make like 3 posts explaining that an oriole is a type of bird

People don’t like the name “Ambermoon?” That’s so graceful! Also I’m with you on the traditional naming rules. What do you mean I can’t name my OC Berrystorm???
The name I came up with in the 6th was “WhistleFoot” and honestly I’m proud of my little child self for not making some edgy name and claim to be the best cat, he’s just a medicane cat that hates children (yes I loved yellowfang)
I totally agree I love these names that dip into the territory of “it doesn’t have to make sense to be cute or work” I literally have a background oc named Mistmelt and an elder named Seaweedwhisker
SOFIA LEE (Student) yea!!! I have this headcannon that he has these long, thick whiskers that drop down and since they live by the sundown place his mother basically just said “ha look! It looks like seaweed!”
in Poppycloud's Rule (Enter the clans/Code of the clans) There is an ancient Thunderclan deputy called Greeneyes. easy to miss but at least one clan cat has had the green prefix. :>
Honestly? I friggin’ _love_ the “untraditional” names. “Billystorm” and “Snowbush” are so neat and I honestly can’t describe how much I like them without saying your main point, it’s just adorable. When I read that Sparkpelt was given “pelt” as a suffix rather than “fire” or “blaze” or “shine” I was actually a bit disappointed
I have two OC's named Songheart and Flutterheart because they're names match their personality. like Songheart is a permanent Queen who likes to hum or sing kits to sleep. When she was a kit she liked to hum to others because they enjoyed it and it brought her happiness. Flutterhearts name is after how he's excited about everything and likes to leap into the air and 'Flutter" about. Names don't have to be legit. Just have fun naming your OCs its honestly not a big deal. Edit: I realize this was 2 years ago, don't judge me.
It's actually really cool seeing you make these longer discussion videos. You're really good at looking at these types of things with the most logical view possible.
Heh, I remember running into this when I joined a warriors roleplay for a while at fourteen. Our group had never used traditional naming, so I wasn't even aware it was a thing. So when my character eventually became the leader of one of the roleplay's clans, I wanted to make sure all the other characters I named got really interesting and unique names. So we ended up with characters such as Cascadingrain, Thundercrash, and Auroraflame. My personal favorite was a character who was a medicine cat's kit named "Neverkit" because "he should've never existed" that I gave the eventual warrior name "Neverfear" as a resolution to his arc of proving his worth to the clan. His roleplayer loved it. Theeeen a bunch of hardassed traditional naming purists descended upon us out of nowhere and started scolding everybody about how silly the character names were. >P They had particular umbridge with "Ghostwhisper" because "cats don't know what ghosts are" and like... hello? All of StarClan, what?
I personally used partially traditional-naming… ish… I would collect lists of all suffixes that were ever used, and not stray from those. So if “Bounce*fire*” or “Running*wind*” existed, i could use the suffixes. But I wouldn’t make my own. And then I’d make my own prefixes and match them, which is how I could things like Thicketspark and Petalwind and Eelstrike
Some of my favorite names have been Brittlestar and Rattlerstar. Brittlestar was once a tom named Brittleleaf, named for his black and white coloring. Rattlerstar is another Tigerstar clone, who’s pelt is dark and mottled like a rattlesnake’s. Sure, cats probably wouldn’t call them Rattlers like old southern cowboys, but who cares. Rattlerfang, his warrior name, was one of my favorites ever.
in conclusion, warrior cats is a book series for kids about feral cats who live in a society out in the forest and believe in their dead cat ancestors. also dovewing's eyes are gre-
Wrenpelt? Wrenstripe? Wrenheart? I say Wrenflight. Edit: Oh wait I just remembered Wrenflight was a WindClan queen under Heatherstar's leadership. Never mind then.
Lol i thought of it that way too but also that he was sort of evil/strong like a hawk and frost cause he has a cold personality(or just cause of his eyes)
There's even a character named Windflight who was half Windclan so clan-related suffixes and prefixes from one of the earlier super editions (Crookedstar's Promise)
4:20 Hawkfrost was going for the fact that his original name was Hawk, which was probably a reference to his colouration, which could be considered similar to a hawk’s, and the ‘frost’ part of his name is a reference to his ice blue eyes. So it’s not actually a silly name, it’s actually a name that references his pelt colour and his eye colour.
The closest thing I can think of to in universe "traditional naming" is that most leaders tend to pick from the same pool of suffixes, but even that isn't like an actual rule and is frequently not done. While yes, these might be the most common, that doesn't mean they're the only ones. Also, here's a list of the suffixes I meant in case there was any confusion -pelt -claw -heart -tail -fur -whisker -stripe -foot I would also like to give a shout out to cats like Leafpool and Crookedjaw(star) who got strange suffixes because of their achievements (discovering the Moonpool and becoming a very good warrior despite a broken jaw respectively) Edit- Forgot "foot"
Its doesnt Id like to believe it does but it doesnt or else we probably wouldn't be having a crowfrost Or anything else dor that matter because since hawk and moth hawkfrost mothwing they had never used it before Edit:at least as a suffix
5:00 “you can’t name a kit sunkit!!!” me, with two ocs that have the sun prefix: | (• ◡•)| (sunspots and sunnyrun, if youre curious. and they’re in diff clans)
Okay, I agree actually. I was on a server and someone’s name was MuddyPath and everyone and their mothers were attacking them and accused them for not reading the books. Saying that since no cat had it as a name it wasn’t possible so they were forced to change their name to MudCloud. Yet cats know what being Muddy is and it’s fine honestly. And being named after appearance? There’s going to be lots of pelt, fur and claw suffix then. For HawkFrost’s name usually when I don’t understand why that got that suffix I look up what it means, and (if I remember correctly stay with me here) it means cold and calculating? So it makes sense for Hawkfrost since he planned out for Brambleclaw to become leader by killing FireStar with the fox trap. Also I have an Oc named DandelionTail so anyone can fight me.
Yeah I agree. However when making ocs I of course have my own preferences as everyone does. Dandeliontail is a perfectly fine name and could be used in the books even. However if I was making an oc I probably wouldn't call it dandeliontail just because my personal preference is for shorter names that are easier to say. However I would never inflict this rule on to others
Shmurple Purple I agree! Like Moon said, everyone has their own preferences! The only thing I won’t accept is like, if it’s said like they don’t know that these the things are called. Like specific breeds of dog you know ?
I agree muddypath was a perfictly fine name i have an oc called marblefeather oh no i didnt read the books -_- im honestly tired sure moon isnt alowed screw that im still using moon cuz if they ignore it in the warrior cat series so will I
Tbh I thought Hawkfrost was named because he was brown and tabby (hawks have barred feathers) and got -frost because he had blue eyes. I never knew people took issue with it. But my shameless self insert is Mellowstep so what do I know
I'm going to make a warrior cat OC named SunMoon just to piss people off I probably will never roleplay again but who cares I AM DOING THIS FOR YOU SUNKIT
Whitewater doesn't get enough credit for her name, they could have called her Whitefur or Whitepelt or another boring white name, but they were creative instead and I think it's really pretty :>
Hawkfrost, now that I think about it, has a purpose. He is perceptive and calculating, like a hawk, and he is "cold" to others, (his sister an exception) and that's where he gets the frost part of his name. Edit: 4:15
Honestly, I had written a fan fiction and one of my cat’s names was Honeymoon and some random kid at school that I didn’t even know heard me talking about it to my friend and attacked me for having moon in the name so I changed the name to Cherryfur and I haven’t shared a fan fiction with anyone since because I’ve been so scared about how people would react to it.
If I can name my oc *Fizz*fang, you can name your oc Honeymoon. Don't let things other people say control you. Be who you are inside, and give your ocs whatever name *you* see fit. Not some kid you don't know.
I always personally ignored these "rules" and sometimes use words that aren't officially used in the universe of warrior cats, is that okay? (I also personally liked the name willowmoon)
Willowmoon is a fantastic name! Having unique names puts deeper meaning to a cat's name. EX: Smallear only describes his appearance, while Lionblaze tells how fierce and brave he is. I mean, just imagine a fire-y lion!
You can have what ever you want really. Your name fits with what i think a ‘valid’ name should be. Though it doesnt make much sense to me, it’s still nice!
I just imagine a night-time scene under the shade of a willow tree, and in the gaps of the leaves, you can see the full moon... ooooooor it's just a pretty name XD
I have An Oc Called WillowWatcher, Because of the fact she has great eye sight and could see any difference! (and in my Ocs story this comes to a big help) and she was named after it soon becoming WillowStar.
I got bullied on a warriors cats role play game for not conforming to arbitrary rules if you’re seeing this vizavi frick you and your toxic community and admins

while we're talking about names, who looked at their child and goes "ah yes, running. what a perfect name for a child that can't even see yet"
not a bad name, im just curious on the thought process behind it lmao
And Yellowfang. Like, her mother HAD to know she was NOT yellow, and did she name her after her bad hygiene even if she was JUST born? And poor Yellowkit must've had trouble brainstorming for names for when she would grow older! Like most kits do.
I've seen kits be renamed when made apprentices, an example being Hopkit renamed into deadpaw (Later deadfoot)
@@RABIDPIL0T Hopfoot would of been a cute name though xd
"longkit" (tc, longtail)

"kinkkit" (shc, kinkfur)
"tornkit" (wc, tornear)

"onekit" (wc, onestar/whisker)
(RAINFLOWER U SUCK SO I WONT PUT CROOKEDSTAR IN)
"whiskerkit" (wc, whiskernose)
"loudkit" (rc, loudbelly)
"heavykit" (rc, heavystep)
"clawkit" (shc/rogue, clawface, istg why would u name your kit clawkit knowing they would be named clawpaw in a few moons😭)
(yellowfang had a good reason to name brokenstar brokenkit so not including. in case you didn't know its because she felt broken after hopekit and wishkit died and that she had kits as a medicine cat, plus more i might have forgotten.)
"tallkit" (shc, tallpoppy [also tallstar but he had a reason to be named tallkit. sandgorse wanted him to be named for his tail] anyway who named her that? idk brokenstar or raggedstar tho.)
"toadkit" (shc, Toadfootwhat kind of name is this lmao. [also toadstep, rosepetals brother i think])
"ratkit" (shc, Ratscar, WHY.)
"eelkit" (rc, eeltail, cotc and mv. weird name man)
"maggotkit" (df, maggottail, man his mother must have HATED him...)
"shredkit" (df, shredtail, again weird name and did his mother WANT him to get shredded?)
"sneezekit" (rc, sneezecloud, runningnose if in rc)
etc
maybe the pelt looked like something the cats would run on. Take Runningwind for example, his pelt is brown like a desert, maybe. cats could run on deserts. Or thr kit was just faster than the other kits at something? idk
Leafstar legacy names? SHE SURE DOES! She literally named both Rootspring and Needleclaw after there mentors.
I know. Seems like Leafstar is running out of ideas
I never realised that lol

Also, Running nose is da best name eva
I think sneezecloud is also allergic to cats
Sin Wolfe they’re allergic to moss I think.
My OC is named Frostedflake. Strangely, no one has really complained about it due to her winter-centric backstory.
Eris Mason she earned her stripes.
Does she look like a tiger? 🤔😂
She's grrrrrrreat!
@@skootergirl22 She's a grey and white tabby. I couldn't be too obvious, lol.

I accidentally said "puddleshine" but he isn't Violetshine's mother, Pebbleshine is.
Handy Puddleshine Pebbleshine identification guide:
Puddleshine is the tom medicine cat of Shadowclan. He is Brown with white spots. He is alive.
Pebbleshine was a she-cat warrior of Skyclan. She was white with brown spots. She is dead.
Moonkitti 👍
She is dead.
Oh lawd
I thought Puddleshine was dead from another video because confusion haha
The Erins seem to be really loving the "Shine" suffix lately. We have Willowshine, Puddleshine, Pebbleshine, Violetshine, probably more that I'm too lazy to think of right now. This may not seem like much compared to the amount of "furs" and "tails" We have but it just kind of came out of nowhere since Willowshine. Not that it's a bad suffix or anything, just a tad overused in the books imo
Wait she is! :OOOOOOO

in an rp group that leaned into the more mystical aspects, I had an albino cat, moonpaw (later, moonsong). She became a vassel for the goddess of the moon who she met in dreams and eventually took on the mantle herself. She literally became the moon, which I had no knowledge of or plans for when making her, and I've never been happier with an oc tbh. Oh helloooooo
Oh hi! I recently started watching your vids! ^^
I suddenly really want to read Neverfear's story omg
I like the name auroraflame. I love creative names
oh my gosh Neverfear that's so precious wtf
Ghostwhisper sounds so cool tbh
I have Squallbillow and I think I made something like Infernoheart
I personally used partially traditional-naming… ish… I would collect lists of all suffixes that were ever used, and not stray from those. So if “Bounce*fire*” or “Running*wind*” existed, i could use the suffixes. But I wouldn’t make my own. And then I’d make my own prefixes and match them, which is how I could things like Thicketspark and Petalwind and Eelstrike
I have Cloverwish, Lavendermoon, And DandelionWhisker because it takes so long to type it in Warrior cats rp

There's even a character named Windflight who was half Windclan so clan-related suffixes and prefixes from one of the earlier super editions (Crookedstar's Promise)
I remember mzking an oc called windflight when i had only read two books, i didnt know lmao

Everyone: why hawkfrost is the bird cold
Me: his name was hawk
His eyes are frost blue
What more do you want

Also, here's a list of the suffixes I meant in case there was any confusion

-heart
-tail
-fur
