Just wanted to say: when talking about 'Thief of existence' the part that the permanent has to be noncreature got missed. So sadly it does not exile initiative creatures or a marit lage token.
For those wondering, Wrenn’s treefolk partners don’t die when she leaves them. Whenever her treefolk want to stop traveling, she drops them off and finds a new partner. Six is from Kessig (as are Four and Seven, and why Wrenn and Seven was in MID) and he’s now back there, vibing. As of now, Seven is the only treefolk Wrenn partnered with that is canonically dead.
That's not actually true. Four is said to have died right after she left to find Five (Five is actually the one from Innistrad, not Four, as "it had been a new Plane to her then"). They don't die but they do deanimate, so Six just chilling is still weird. Also, I think the point of thestory in MoM is kinda that Realmbreaker is a tree, but your millage may vary.
@@ScornfulEg0tist If I recall, none of Wrenn's partners were treefolk before she bonded with them. Though I was under the impression they ceased to be treefolk when the bond ended too, so I don't know after this card implies otherwise.
Thirst for knowledge, thirst for discovery, compulsive research, thirst for discovery. Are some of my favorite cards that are basically unplayable lol 😂
47:58 So I went on a whole Wrenn deep dive on one of my streams this past month and her lore is pretty cool. Long story short; she finds trees that can handle her internal fire, if they aren't already sentient, they become sentient, she names them based on when she FIRST bonds to them, before the tree can be overwhelmed by her inner fire she asks them what they want to do; some of them want to go back to their home plane and live as a normal tree, while others might want to maintain sentience or even stay somewhere they weren't native to. Yes that is an abbreviated version. Def check out her wiki cuz she is cooler than I realized.
In this case, Six is actually alive on Innistrad, after Wrenn leaves them to join with Seven. Seven's attitude toward Six is never clarified, and vice versa.
Edward P Beard Jr always referred to psychatog as a “basketball with teeth” and lamented the fact that one of his silliest and quickest pieces of art became so iconic in MTG.

1:12:16 ok so. (Nelsom vaguely touched on this) Kudo while it is technically a hate bear for your opponent's creature I think it shines the MOST in the counters deck because it makes some of your creatures even bigger and makes your side quadruple the size of your opponent's side ya know?
For a while I've been brainstorming a triple mox sultai good stuff deck and mh3 has helped that so much. Pitching new grist to cultivate and untapping and playing like an unearth or something on it and blowing up an urzas saga is pretty cool. So is wrighting a creature away to get a mystic sanctuary to rebuy the reanimate I previously used on one of ur creatures onto another one of ur creatures.
Oof, the way they misread Thief of Existence. "Noncreature, Nonland." It can get rid of a lot, but it can rid of neither half of Dark Depths, nor any of the Initiative creatures.
Probably more in the Commander side of things, but I keep forgetting that Birthing Ritual lets you look before you elect to sac a creature. As such, I'm very into giving it a shot in Bant Blink. Even if I stop going up the ladder pretty quick, I don't hate cashing in my ETB draw creature for a ETB utility creature that mucks some part of my opponent's plan.
Birthing ritual is very good in a recurring nightmare/chthonian nightmare deck, from my experience in gladiator. Especially when you don’t care as much about upgrading because you can get what you sacrificed back easily, so you can cash in a two drop for another two drop.
Kudo is meant to played in +1/+1 decks, buffing your stuff while making their stuff puny. Nadu is really stupid with Bristly Bill, Spine Sower, playing a land puts +1/+1, which trigger and maybe puts land, which repeats the process until you don't hit a land. Then do your shuko thing to get the process started again.... you can draw your entire deck.

Good friend of mine played Upheaval Tog throughout its time in Standard, and he always called it Doctor Teeth. At least that's how I've always known it.
18:14 lol I feel Wheeler's pain in my bones! (because I'm old, and also because I've been saying Eladamri correctly since high school ... which is to say, I'm old)
Am I misreading Birthing Ritual or does the wording follow such that if you don't sacrifice a creature, you just get to look at the next seven cards without having to tuck them away to the bottom? (Also the "wheels are turning" music you were thinking of is Powerhouse)
“Put the rest on the bottom of your library” is a separate sentence from all the sacrifice and put into play stuff, and whether you put something into play or not the cards you look at will be “the rest”
I think Springheart Nantuko could be an Aristocrats card. It just makes a lot of bodies for not very much mana. So long as you can play it, hold priority play a land so you immediately get two bodies, I think you're at least feeling alright about it, and then if it sticks around it just gets better from there. It's pretty close to a Mogg War Marshall, with a lower floor, higher ceiling, and I don't think there's any other card that comes close to that ratio bodies to mana investment without being like double the mana cost or more. Even a lot of the cards that get there in terms of efficiency are like 3 mana and take several turns to realize that value.
I feel like Thief Of Existence is a secret multicolour card, since it has two different specific mana requirements. The frame being gold tinted devoid in stead of green tinted might have been a neat choice.
Can you use birthing ritual to just look at the top seven? like a weird mirri's guile that can cash in fodder creatures in for shuffles and deck manipulation?
I'm glad that they brought up the white flare being better than they were giving it credit, cause of the ones I've tested it *feels* the best imo when it's in your hand you're just allowed to aggressively disrespect your opponent. yeah I'll tap out and swing my entire board, what are you gonna do? kill me on the crack back? set up a bunch of blocks to trade evenly?
I believe the major criticism of Invert Polarity is that it's not a Cancel/hard counter. It can't actually counter "all of this thing"-type effects, like board wipes, and only half of the time counters spells that only have a single target on the entire board.
Birthing Ritual is also powerful in an aristocrats deck, play turn one a creature that makes another creature when it dies end then get another „free“ creature.
I am kicking myself for not trying to pick up Phlage earlier. I dont know Modern at all, didnt think the card would be used there. And now its like....40 dollars.
Malevolent Rumble is an interesting Impulse for green decks that stores a mana in a chump blocker Legion Leadership is 2 mana berserk that's also a land Writhing Crystalis is the 3rd best card in MH3 (limited) but a 2 mana 4/5 reach is surely almost highlander playable
I'm thinking of Flare of Cultivation as "Cultivate with basic landcycling (0)" If you sac a mana dork to Flare, you've turned your permanent that taps for mana into a permanent that taps for mana, and the Flare in your hand into a basic land, at no cost. So if that's enough of an improvement on Cultivate to make it worth running again, cool, but you still need to want to run (Better) Cultivate.
I am so sad to see Kudo regarded as such a mid card. I think that the card is much much less of a hate bear and is maybe one of the best cards in tokens or go wide strategies. It makes all of your 1/1 and 0/1 deal real damage and become threats, but the best part is that it make them unable to easily trade with. Adeline, rabblemaster, and Anim all make 1/1s that are attacking and can just be blocked without issue, but with Kudo those will probably end up sticking around and adding a lot of damage because you don't want to trade your caves of chaos adventure or white plume adventure to a random 1/1. And Kudo gets so much better with any anthems or counters. Wedding announcement, flowering of the white tree, warleader's call all make you denser board unblockable because your creatures just kill all of you opponents for free. I don't think this card is deck or meta changing. But I think it has the protentional to be the best card in tokens. dies to doom blade tho
re-Birthing Ritual: Bare minimum, it is 1G = EoT look at top 7 cards of your library if you control a creature. That's information. And with as often as you guys tutor, search, and shuffle your decks, that's ever-changing information. It informs you about if you should play aggressive or defensive for the next few turns. That being said, it's not AMAZING even in best-case situations, IMO. I feel it is an easy cut from most decks which would play it, but that some players will find homes for it.
Actual best application for Birthing Ritual is in dredge to check my top 7 cards so I can decide to draw the top card, or mill my way to the card I want to draw
After looking, you have to put everything left, whether you sacrifice or not, on the bottom in a random order. You gain no useful information for whether to Dredge or not.
