Blue deck's tapped out, POST MEMES! I just realized that this set should have waited 6 months before coming out and should be called 'Hindsight'. A neat callback to 'Future Sight', but rather than designing whole new mechanics, it's a set that looks back at Magic's history and reapplies mechanics in interesting ways. But alas, Modern Horizons is here, and 'Hindsight' is not in 2020.
Really enjoyed the longer format of this episode! Especially with the amount of SPICE in Modern Horizons. Thank you again for another amazing episode of North 100!
"Welcome to our set review, now before we get into it, let us crush and then partially rebuild anyone's Sliver dreams" I get it, and I've accepted it, and it still hurts. I'm still building it as well.
Beej is only allowed to be the mascot for Canlander if you guys do another Dollar Store Highlander stream. Specifically the four gentlemen on screen in this video. It'll be fun to see their specific heads explode. :D
THANK YOU FOR UPDATING THE AUDIO QUALITY!!!! I can finally hear your voices in my car when I can't use headphones 😁. Also thank you all for a new episode! Excited to (hopefully) see you at GP Seattle!
I was about to write ”you are thinking silvers wrong” bit then you got it more right towards the end , the interesting slivers from this set are not the cloudshreader sliver, it’s scuttling sliver and spiteful sliver
Engulf The Shore in Mono blue high tide is a good laugh! That's why I love this series because it highlights cards I've previously independently selected for our house meta which closely resembles CanLander.
I get that 5 colour slivers is too greedy to be a competitive deck in Canlander, but what about just Naya slivers? Don't get fancy trying to run the big payloads, just have the most aggressive slivers and burn and removal to balance things out. And if there isn't the density needed for the creature base, supplement with changelings.
Hey North 100, I'm a bit of a vintage player and was curious why necropotence doesn't see much play outside of mono black? Is it that hard to cast? Surely in a two colour deck you can play it. It seems like it would be amazing in something like black mould, where your in a board stall and start recalling every turn.
The card quality in vintage is much higher than in CanLander. It is also (along with other draw 7's) fairly unreliable to lead to a combo victory due to the 100 card singleton nature as opposed to 60 card 4 of(ish) nature of Vintage.
@@haydentaylor2101 Fair decks often can't afford the life loss, and don't necessarily find you the right answers. Only 1 Force in 100 means you're unlikely to find free counter magic, and giving your opponent free reign on turn 3/4 is dangerous.
I think the Eyekite interaction I'm most interested in would be in a UG-based tempo deck where you get to play cards like JTMS and Sylvan Library to trigger the Eyekite consistently with stuff you already have on the battlefield anyway. This set review is really good, I think the pacing is a lot better. One of the reasons I watch the podcast is so I can develop my own skills as a CanLander player in terms of not only knowing what but also why, and the slower movement through the cards helps me get a more complete picture of why and where something makes the cut.
No, Jer, you're looking at the flavor of Marit Lage's Slumber wrong. It's not "dumping a bunch of snow on it." You're just putting so many things into the freezer with it that Marit Lage can't fit anymore and just falls out, thawing and killing the world. And/or playing each of the Snow Permanents are symbolically REMOVING the Ice and Snow on top of Marit Lage to put on your other creatures, so thus you're "removing the Ice Counters" by making them actual permanents.
Serge calling me out hard at the end of Powerful Magic there while I had a half-written comment asking for the decklist from Wheeler I mean, I don't have a CanLander deck or community but you bet your ass I'll make one so I can play big gay lightning moon prince storm
I was wondering what your opinions on a few cards are. Would answered prayers help a soul sisters style of deck, i figure worse thing would be pointing out how great the art is. And what are your thoughts on prohibit as a soft counter that's easy to splash
As I sit down to watch this wonderful new addition of your show, I keep thinking: "Man, those poor basterds that just *listen* to it in podcast form miss SOOOOooo much of the visuals." Keep being awesome, guys! You all rock!
Will the ouphe get its own episode? More seriously, it might be interesting to have an episode about individual cards that have warped the format. Ones that made or broke top tier decks over the years.
It's five mana for a 3/4. It's a cool Limited card, but there are so many better things to do with your turn. Look at Riverwise Augur, which is also cool, but not very good anywhere.
I have no idea about this format. Never played it, never had any contact with it besides this podcast. I just watch to play the "is this a real archtype or a meme?" game.
Normally I just listen to the podcast version but I wanted to drop by and say I really enjoyed the slower more in depth format of this episode. Also, I've noticed you guys seem to go out of your way to not have side conversations about other formats. Why be so strict about that? I listen to this show not just to hear about the format, but because I feel like I've become a better magic player from your insights. If that means talking about modern a bit that's fine by me
"Today we'll be talking about WUBRG" *glances at title of episode* Yeah, sure.

You win the internets, good sir. Well played.
The silent interactions between Alex and Ben are great and hilarious
For example 2:43
Connor Hues also 3:12 is a great one

Now I want to hear a TTC start with "Broadcasting Live from Marit Lage's Season Residence under a Snow-Covered Island!"
The set review episodes is what got me into North 100, and I think splitting the set review up in as many parts as needed is a great thing!
Please make North 100 more frequently. North 100 is my favorite mtg content on RUclips.
I think they mentioned why the dropped in frequency, I believe it was just schedules on lining up. But yea I want more
They make it as frequently as it's needed.
Love going from a Wheeler VOD to a North 100 podcast. What a great day!
Are they on RUclips? Where do u find Wheeler's twitch/VODS? I'd watch that!
@@Asmodeus555 some of the vods are on youtube (look up benjamin wheeler) and he has a twitch, I believe it's benjamin_wheeler
@@Alpsus Cheers!
No "BWAAA" for Mirrodin Beseiged? I feel cheated ;p
Alex: Theoretically you can play 50 Swamp and 50 Shadowborn Apostles
Me: We need to make a cut for Thrumming Stone.
I come back to this vid sometimes just to hear Wheeler say "The blue deck's tapped out, post memes." It gives me life.
The best part of your entire channel
This is the reason I sub right here
Another wonderful episode as always. I really like the longer format. I could listen to you guys evaluate cards all day.
Thanks for taking the extra time to really dig in! I always look forward to the North 100 reviews

I too agree with this idea
Give us more Beejlander/Trashlander/Lowlander!
Agreed
Okay. I’ve barely started, but as a fan of professional cycling, “Tour de France” as a deck name is really sweet!

Episode 69
niceeeeeeee
Nice
the best part about serra is that she also just reads “2WW suspend 1: make a worship that your opponent can’t interact with”
Just want to add my voice to those saying they liked the longer format. I too enjoyed you four getting a chance to spend more time talking cards!

I like this format a lot more.
Love the N100 crew loved the long review please sir may I have another

"She got her spark" oh Serge why must you pain the Vorthoses who watch this podcast with that reaction.
Yea, its been a long time waiting but Sera finally got her spark

12:47 for easy replaying.

The old god Thassa is who Serge was looking for as an example for an enchantment that scrys.
episode 69. Nice
Look the prison only works when marit lage is at exactly -20 of magic the gathering tempreture units if you dump more ice on it the spell doesn't work

Archmage's charm steals a marit lage at instant speed
Serge: It's kind of like search for azcanta
Everyone else: WHOA!!!! No, no, no, no.
I want a new segment every set review “Which card is most likely to get pointed?”
Alex had war flashbacks to Friday Nights during that powerful magic story.
Bloodforged Battle-Ninja not getting the love it deserves.

So is new Urza getting pointed?

Adam Evans If you splice onto a card with storm, the copies will also have the text that you are splicing onto it.
Seems deece.
OUPHE
I swear I thought the "Best card you're Not playing" was going to be Lighthouse Chronologist!
Did Ben say "Spurty goo"?
You forgot morphon as the last wubrg slivers lords.
Sorry Ben, I really want Jere to get you with that 3/1 ninja, cause I think it's great. Jeremy, don't forget and try to do it on stream if you can. :)
I love the idea of your opponent plays merit lage and you arch mage charm it
Nice.
Marit Lages Slumber...and hear me out here....
Scapeshift!
Yea ok, nevermind. ill go now...
Archmage's Charm also steals Marit Lage... yes please.

Azcanta is not surveil.
Am I the only person who gets irrationally annoyed when people misquote movies? Its "There can BE ONLY one!" not "There can ONLY BE one!".
