If you take a really deep dive the Marian Gaborik trade and the Rich Nash Trade we’re connected which makes everything just one big mess. But would make for a great video
@@TFthecreekboy PLEASE don't remind me about Ion Phaneuf... No...I didn't spell his name wrong... He has no D... He also moved slower than an Easter Island moai...
They were a HUGE part of the future for the kings....their trades led us to get Carter, Richards, Penner and Williams. All part of Future to win the Cup!
Let's not forget that Cammalleri was HUGE for Montreal in their 2010 playoff run. Even though I'm not a Habs fan, being in Montreal for a deep playoff run is something magical.
Kiffin McGinnis any mistakes he made after bringing our first and second Stanley Cups are 100% forgivable. Look at teams like Toronto with infinite cash to spare and aren’t in the SC Final...
@@Rorschachqp seconded and passed unanimously my friend. Forgivable without doubt. But let’s not forget everything we have had to shed under Blakey. I love DL, without a doubt. But he did make it hard for us now because of the bad contracts and the failed trades. We missed in 15 when we had to give us Jonesy (I know, I know. Avoid the offer sheet) and then the Sekera trade...just too many firsts gone without a backbone to keep us going.
I almost got irked by Steve calling them a "bunch of jerks" but since they had Justin Williams - aka the founder of the Storm Surge - I'll let it slide
Bruh what? Did you not hear the man in the video? Penner put up 11 points in 20 playoffs games, helping us win the cup. One of his goals sent us to the Stanley cup finals. Of course it was worth it. Does Klefbom have 2 cups??
“Cammy and a pick” is legendary among longtime Kings fans. I think LA also leads the league in bringing players we traded away back - sometimes more than once, lol.
The craziest part to me is that he's played with 5 different teams across 13 seasons, but has never signed a contract with any team other than the Blues.
Not sure if you knew this but Elvis Merzlikins was acquired from Detroit and it raises the question if Detroit would be better now and this trade also has ties to Edmonton and La and Dominic Turgeon
Do the Byfuglien trade from Chicago to Atlanta in 2010. I started it and immediately it looks like Bowman got absolutely fleeced as part of a many player deal due to the cap crunch, but it gets way weird and convoluted with the acquisition, trade and re-acquisition of Jeremy Morin if you also note that Morin was re-acquired in the Brandon Saad re-acquisition trade who had been traded for Artem Anisimov and magic beans though Anisimov had a successful run as a Hawk for Artemi Panarin. It has several layers that fold back on itself while ATL/WPG reap the rewards of getting the best player.
Amazing video. I would only add that Dustin Penner turned out to be a solid move for the Kings, including a critical one in 2012. He scored the game-winning goal against PHX that sent the Kings to the finals. The following year, he scored the game-winning goal against St. Louis to move to the next round. (Kings lost against Chicago in the Conf. finals.) Justin Williams was critical in all aspects for the Kings. Even though he won the Conn Smyth in 2014, in game one of the 2012 finals against New Jersey, he made the amazing backhand pass to Kopitar that sent him on a breakaway against Broduer that resulted in the BEAUTIFUL dangle magic game-winning goal. All that said, Quick is the only reason Kings won anything. And, without Richards and Voynov, a Cup remains nothing but a dream for L.A. in 2012 and 2014.
Hey ... only because I would be interested to see how the pieces worked out in both these trades involving the Penguins ... The 2003 draft day trade with Florida that allowed the Pens to draft Marc-Andre Fleury ... and the 1991 trade when the Pens acquired Ron Francis and Ulf Samuellson that directly led to back to back Stanley Cup titles.
Need to do pre trade tree on the Jeff Carter deal. He came from a pick that came from Phoenix that came from Langkow that came from Gratton that was an offer sheet. If you count all the draft picks philly traded to get back it gets even crazier. Simon Gagne, Justin Williams, Rick Tocchet, Adam Oates & Mikael Renberg are all part of this trade tree that eventually leads to Carter and then coots and Voracek
October 9th, 1978 the Los Angeles Kings traded their 1st round pick in the 1979 Draft to the Boston Bruins for goaltender Ron Grahame. A trade that saw the Kings acquire a “minor league goaltender” in exchange for a draft pick that could have changed the fortunes of the franchise for decades.
There's a story going on about that second round pick the Kings gave up in that trade to get Williams in that it was a punishment for an advanced leak and that second rounder was the cost of the leak...
Yup, Mike had a great first year with the Flames and then they don’t resign him so they had room to pick up Jay Bouwmeester. What a missed opportunity... Michael Cammalleri was poised to be the face of the franchise. I also love how The Flames would repeatedly let talent slip through our fingers only to bring them back when most of their magic was gone.
Dominic Hasek to Buffalo sabres from Chicago Blackhawks. Only reason buff made it to cup in 99. Best goaltender ever imo in his prime. Unreal. Anyone who disagrees is either too young to know better or looking for an argument. U cannot deny that.
Steve: I don't understand why teams swap picks in the same round in different years. (Calgary giving up 2009 2nd, for LA's 2008 2nd) Also Steve: the 2008 draft class was stacked.
NBA trade rule: Never Trade with The Celtics. NHL trade rule: Trade with Leafs, even if it's a last round draft pick NFL trade rule: Pick the Right Bill, the one from Texans. Not the one from New England.
Better than Roy, brod. Etc. Dude was consistently lethal. It was his consistency along with his world class goaltending. Imagine living in a city where your goaltending was that good on a consistent basis. It was beautiful. They team was extremely mediocre. Without Hasek they would be barely making the playoffs. Hasek was that dude.
One of the “best” players I ever played against is on your team Steve- Jack Campbell. I was going to mention some of the other former teammates or opponents but it doesn’t matter, just thought that was worth mentioning.
Wonder if the NHL will retire Justin Williams Jersey number with Philadelphia Flyers or Carolina Hurricanes, since he was draft 2000 by Philadelphia Flyers
Back in the day, the Kings would trade their #1 pick for a washed up veteran and the team who got the #1 pick, usually picked a great player. Dan Grahme for the #8 pick in 79. Bruins took Ray Bourque. 1982 #1 pick to Buffalo for Jerry Korab, that Buffalo used to take Phil Housley. 1983 #1 to Buffalo for Rick Martin. Buffalo used the pick to take Tom BarASShole! The story goes, when the Kings picked up Martin at the airport, he was walking with a cane and they were shocked! Then in 84, they go the other way and trade a veteran for a #1 pick- trading Charlie Simmer to the Bruins for a #1 pick in 85. I believe that #1 pick became Craig DoNOTHIINGson or Dan Gratton. Either way a bust.
Dangle: The Kings made THIRTEEN (!!!!) trades in the 2008 offseason! *faints* Dean Lombardi: I too am shocked I made so few trades. It was a slow summer.
